Midnight essence was 8th epoch, so eighth desolation. I'm curious why everybody automatically thinks midnight essence came from the midnight mother.

We don't really know when the Unmade were made. Most likely during Honor and Odiums final clash, which is after the Recreance. Which makes sense, since Honor didn't mention the Unmade in his visions. I think he would have mentioned them considering their significance. Edit: Wait, I forgot about the vision with the purelake. Scratch everything I said above.

I'm more interested in the other two that we know, Death-Rattle and Thrill, what are they analogues of?

[OB] Inside cover art!! Finally!
ScavellTane replied to Overlord Jebus's topic in Stormlight Archive
A lot of people don't really believe the Radiants had fantastical powers, so perhaps the Sons of Honor believe that with the current Alethi scientific and military prowess they could prevail when compared with their perception that the ancients where primitive. Especially since they believe, with the 'black gemstone' they could carefully control the arrival of the Desolation.- 321 replies

How does a Chasmfiend survive a Highstorm?
ScavellTane replied to Steeldancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's because we believe the 'regular' chasmfiend is an adult and not a juvenile. According to Adolin the 'juveniles' are presumed to 'pupate' during the night, so we can assume that nobody actually sees a chasmfiend pupate. -
How does a Chasmfiend survive a Highstorm?
ScavellTane replied to Steeldancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
At first I thought these were the parshendi, either the stormforms or Thude's band. Now I believe that one of those figures could very possibly be a giant female chasmfiend laying eggs. Because right after said highstorm, a chrysalis was spotted. And also this. -

You're implying the covering of safehands started with the book, I'm implying the covering of 'hand' was incorporated into the book. Yes?- 321 replies

[OB] Inside cover art!! Finally!
ScavellTane replied to Overlord Jebus's topic in Stormlight Archive
I would say that covering of safehands was something to honor Karm, Nohadons advisor. Its something that signifies the role of advisor or scribe. With the coming of Arts and Majesty, the role became gender specific thus we only see women covering their hands.- 321 replies

Are we sure covering the left hand was started by the Vorin church and not a culture thing that was passed down considering Nohadons advisor only had one hand.- 321 replies

[OB] Day of Recreance: solved? (Spoilers)
ScavellTane replied to Ataraxian Wist's topic in Stormlight Archive
A thought just occurred to me that the conflict between Honor and Odium is not really a one sided affair. Sometimes Honor has won and sometimes Odium has won. I'm led to believe that whenever Odium won the Listeners have integrated humanity into their society and therefore we see human hybirds like the Herdazian. Rocks Horneater origin story may have been one of the times where Honor lost and some of humanity took refuge in the peaks.- 13 replies

Cross over to shadesmar. -
Was the cover wood or rock? If it's wood it could've swelled due to moisture.

Why do we think that the book is named after the sword or vice versa?
