Artifice Wars - Artifice & Infusions
The Voiceless One replied to Brightlord M. Alhstrom's topic in Creator's Corner
If a large chain of people were to use this in a line, and there were other lines branching off of the main line, would the person at the end of one branch be seen as just another will in the network, or would it work more like a home network, where each person in the branch is an individual there, and the long main chain sees each branch as a single powerful individual? Is the order of connection important? sorry if this sounds like a repeat of the previous question. I just want to understand the synergistic network a little better. This is seems a little vague. Is the invested Soulflame growing at a rate fixed by the size of the initial investment in the entity, is the rate of growth determined by the size of the Artificer's Soulflame, or is it some other way of determining the growth like compound interest? -
Artifice Wars - Artifice & Infusions
The Voiceless One replied to Brightlord M. Alhstrom's topic in Creator's Corner
How does the connection work? Is there a range limitation, do all the involved members need to consent to it, or can anyone with synergy connect to another entity with synergy regardless of the other's wishes? When you spoke of wills, is every thought a will, or only actions? What are the physical effects of the connection? is it purely mental? do the participants need to remain still during it? are they any external signs of a connection like a glow or a faint hum? Is there a limit to how many synergistic entities can be connected at a time? can the connection be formed between two groups of connected people, and if so would the groups be regarded as a large entity like the cells in our body are regarded as a person, or would the new group be more like a nation that just got more citizens? For the knowledge sharing, is it only with consent of the holder, or is it just used because it exists in the network? -
As @Spoolofwhool said earlier, it is the structure that maters. the source is http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=636/#4

In the very first post on the link, it was stated that "Brandon said that it makes sense for ettmetal to be so volatile, because it has the power of both Shards in it, and the conflict associated with them. He also clarified that it’s not a nuclear reaction; it’s chemically reactive, it’s the properties of the electrons in Harmonium that make it so reactive. It’s like ‘super-cesium,’ reacting very quickly with water." Harmonium does act almost identical to Caesium in chemical aspects.
-
Brandon may mean that they are running out of Allomantic metals. The metal burned could be turned into something non-toxic when the potential to fuel investiture is gone. Also, burning metals seems to release a physical heat, so it is possible that we can deduce which, if any, states of mater they go through based on how heat would be consumed or released. For example, because gas cools the container as it expands and burning the metal makes the person warmer, it is unlikely that the metal becomes a gas.

I think that because we see allomancers in multiple eras with a vile of metal always ready, we can conclude that it was common for at least those allomancers to keep a mixed vile at all times, meaning that they either go through a lot of metal flakes, or that there is ample time for the flakes to react with the water and alcohol.
-
I have never heard this before. Where did you find it? In the time of The Lord Ruler, metals were stored in an alcohol solution, which will react with the iron. The reaction between the Iron and the alcohol solution will turn almost all the iron into iron oxides, but these appear to still be burnable.
-
Good point. why would being an ion make it un usable in the metallic arts? Iron forms many ions naturally, and that does not seem to prevent lurchers from burning it.
-
Because behaves like Caesium, as discussed by Pagerunner in the chemistry of god metals, there should be a way to dissolve it in water without it exploding. In this form, it would be safe to drink and burn. Sodium and Caesium behave almost the same (the main difference is in how violently they react with water), sodium compounds should work to model harmonium compounds. Sodium combined with chlorine produces table salt, which readily dissolves in water without the sodium exploding as it would if the sodium were added without the chlorine. Once in the water, the sodium ions separate from the chlorine ions. Therefore, if a chlorine-harmonium compound were made, it could safely be added to the water, where the harmonium would separate from the chlorine, and now the water can supply harmonium for burning.

Powering surge binding with the metallic arts
The Voiceless One replied to The Voiceless One's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I was only trying to figure out how to store the stormlight without losing any over time in a more plausible way. Earlier, the proposed method was to use nicrosil, which you did not think would work. This method should be more reasonable, even if it is a little harder to retrieve the stormlight.- 44 replies

Powering surge binding with the metallic arts
The Voiceless One replied to The Voiceless One's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Earlier it was said that stormlight could be used to power allomancy, and I think that this process should work in reverse as well. Because allomancy and feruchemy are similar, surgebinding should be able to work off of feruchemmy.- 44 replies

Powering surge binding with the metallic arts
The Voiceless One replied to The Voiceless One's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What if you stored the extra strength that comes from having stormlight? It could then be used to power surges, and would not leak away while being stored.- 44 replies

Powering surge binding with the metallic arts
The Voiceless One posted a topic in Cosmere Discussion
If Nightblood can be fueled by any form of investiture, is there a way to power the Surge bindings of Roshar with the metallic arts from Scadrail? I am thinking that the investiture may be keyed to the local magic system, but I have not had time to look into this very much. Feruchemy and Allomancy can both provide a sustained source of investiture, so they would make a nice backup if a Knight Radiant were able to use them to power the Surge bindings if their supply of storm light became too depleted.- 44 replies

You could use special braces for that. No metals falling out, and talking is still normal.

Why is Trellium being mentioned here? So far as I can tell, it is not related to how Lerasium operates when used as a metalmind.
-
I see. Thank you for the quote.
-
I do not think that this is correct, as ruin is not the source of allomancy, so he has little to no control over the powers of an allomancer.. This means that he could not have fueled all their metal reserves, but perhaps he could fuel the atium reserves of the person.
-
A good point. My other idea as that it stored allomantic strength, but from what I have seen, this is already done by Nicrosil.
-
I thought that feruchemical metals were their own opposite, where storing would make you older, and tapping would make you younger.
-
I have found no hints about what lerasium would do if used as a metalmind, but I think that it would allow the storage of allomantic strength.

The secret behind the Rosharian Gas Giants [Theory]
The Voiceless One replied to Unodus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My point exactly. They do not need to be important to this arc of story, but they can still be tied to imprisoning odium.- 30 replies

The secret behind the Rosharian Gas Giants [Theory]
The Voiceless One replied to Unodus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
They can still be important to the mechanics of imprisoning odium without being important to the main story line. It would be difficult, but doable, to leave odium's problems out of the main story line.- 30 replies

The Knights Theoretic
The Voiceless One replied to Oversleep's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
I am in favor of this. Having feedback to a theory before it is released to the greater community is something that would make my life easier, knowing that the theory has been cleansed of obvious flaws. -
The secret behind the Rosharian Gas Giants [Theory]
The Voiceless One replied to Unodus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It was once doubted that the listeners could be the void bringers. why couldn't the dawnshards be the gas giants in a literal sense? After all, they would have been placed and held in such an arbitrary orbit by a shard or similarly powerful entity.- 30 replies
