Yomen was invited to listen in on today's arguments about the latest accusations. Part of him was wondering if this was a bad way to find the spiked. Surely it wasn't. Right? Today, the picked a man named TJ. He frantically tried to defend his name, but most of the crowd was not hearing it. Yomen looked away as his guards prepared to execute the man. Yomen hoped they had finally- Yomen jerked his head as he heard shouts of surprise. Metal was flying around the cavern, TJ dancing among the flashing pieces as he fought off the guards. TJ fought well, but ultimately fell to the guards. Later that night, it was determined TJ had no spikes in him, even if he was a wretched skaa allomancer. There were zero steps closer to finding the spiked. And the earthquakes were getting worse. Would they all die here? ~~~~~~~ |TJ| has been executed! Yomen worked while the others all slept. He pored over the ledgers his accountants had left for him. He didn't care about the boxings, not now, just the amount of supplies. Thankfully the Lord Ruler had left them a large supply of canned goods down here. It was as if their god had planned for the end of the world. Yomen was thankful for His foresight. Though he feared it wouldn't be enough. The ground shook as a guard burst into Yomen's tent. "Another killing," the man spluttered. Yomen was on his feet immediately, chasing the guard as he was led through the crowded cave tunnels. Most people were trying to flee the scene of the crime. When they got their, Yomen's heart stopped for a moment. Chanarash, the stranger with the mystical blade, was standing over a dead body, some poor skaa woman. What had Chanarash done? But no, Chanarash was clearly badly wounded as well. She was closing the eyes of the dead woman. Yomen got there just in time to hear the stranger whisper something about the Tranquiline Halls. "What happened here?" Yomen demanded. "We were attacked," Chanarash muttered as Yomen's soldiers helped her up. She had multiple severe stab wounds. "Surprised, by a figure shrouded in a dark cloak. I barely had time to glance at them before they got me. As I was recovering from my wounds, they got Mara here. I had just been asking her about her life, to see what it is like to live as a skaa here on Scadrial. To think she is now dead because of me...." Chanarash kept muttering as they were carried away. Could they be lying? Yomen thought to himself. He would have to keep a careful eye on that stranger. For now he needed to make sure they wouldn't starve this week. ~~~~~~~ KaladinsSenseOfHumorSpren was attacked, but survived! Doc12 has been killed! They were a Village Seeker! Yomen was tired. First, the skaa had sentenced that poor child to death. Yomen's soldiers had thoroughly investigated the body and found no spikes. What a waste of a worker's flesh. Then there had been that Hyena person who had wound up dead in the middle of the night, causing all sorts of commotion. Yomen suspected it was one of those spiked miscreants, trying to sow chaos and fear in the cavern. Unfortunately, it was working. There were various groups, all avoiding one another, keeping to themselves at night. They came together during the day and argues and argued about who should be sacrificed this time. At the end of the second day, Yomen was called to witness their latest choice. It was a poor, silvery haired old man. He looked odd for a reason Yomen couldn't quite place, but the skaa were unanimous in their decision. This old man was apparently a murderer in their eyes. He would do as they asked. What else could he do? He needed them placated. They couldn't afford a riot in this cramped space. ~~~~~~~ ThatOneWorldhopper has been executed! They were a Village Oracle! Hey, so, wife is sick, we both had to go to the doctor, and we're trying to pack for going out of town tomorrow. I'm focused on just getting this out, so there's no writeup today. Yomen's head was reeling. First there was the attempt on his life, then the reveal that they had spiked hiding in the caverns with them, and most recently the strange woman with the magical blade. That last one was probably the least of his worries right now. There was a commotion outside of his impromptu base of operations-a tent-and a guard came in, asking Yomen to follow him. Yomen was led to a large group of skaa holding three people down. "What is the meaning of this?" Yomen demanded. "We have found the spiked!" The crowd yelled. "All three of them?" Yomen asked. "I asked you to pick one per day for...interrogation. Pick one and I will take them." The crowd seemed confused by this, till someone pushed forward a young child. "This one!" The crowd roared. Yomen shrugged. His guards took the child. They would make it painless, then check the body for spikes. With that, he left to continue making ration plans. They had such little time. Day One Yomen hoped he was a good leader. He hoped that he had made the right choice, moving as many of the people of Fadrex City into the caverns as he could. He hoped the Lord Ruler would forgive him for those he could not fit. He hoped their ends would be quick and painless. Most of all, he hoped that at least someone would survive. The quakes were getting stronger, more frequent. With so many people crammed in the caverns, his soldiers were having to work at all hours of the day to keep people from panicking. Already there had been three more brawls after that first woman’s attack, and, by Yomen’s best reckoning, it had only been eight hours. “Sir,” a soldier said, running up to him, “can I speak with you?” “What is it, soldier?” Yomen asked, waving aside his personal retinue. They were reluctant to leave him, but Yomen could handle a single soldier. His retinue would be better off helping the citizens. What was this soldier’s name though? Noor? Nol? Ah yes, Norol. “I need to show you something,” Norol said, leading Yomen further away. What could possibly be- Yomen had little time to react as the soldier spun on him, metal glinting in his hands. Yomen dodged, immediately burning atium as he grabbed his knife. The man’s shadow moved to strike at Yomen’s heart, and even with atium he barely had time to dodge. Yomen saw the man’s counterstrike and preempted it, plunging his own knife into the man’s head. It was over in just a moment, and Yomen quickly stopped burning atium. They had so little left, he could not afford to waste any of it. His retinue arrived, shooing off civilians who had heard the commotion and come around the corner to see what was happening. Yomen watched as his soldiers inspected the man’s body. His worst fears came true. The man was spiked. Their enemy had infiltrated the caverns. Yomen could feel the world ending. The ground shook as soldiers corralled skaa and nobles alike towards the secret cache. Yomen watched from atop an ash-covered building as the poor people trudged through ash-covered streets in ash-covered clothes. The heat was almost unbearable. His advisors kept trying to usher him into the cache, but he knew there would be space for him. He ruled Fadrex City, even if now in the name of Lord Venture. He wanted to make sure as many people got into the caverns as possible. There was a commotion down below, and Yomen spun his head to find the source of it. A woman was attacking some of Yomen's soldiers. Before Yomen could even think to order his minders to help, the woman was cut down. She had clearly managed to injure one of the soldiers, and his fellows quickly ushered him away from the suddenly frantic crowd of people. Yomen would have to check on the man later, once everyone was securely in the caverns. Not even during the end of the world could people behave. "Oh, Lord Ruler," Yomen whispered as his he finally let his advisors usher him towards the cache. "Please keep us alive another day." ~ Welcome to LG107: The End of the World!
