  1. I was rereading Bands of Mourning, and in the part where the Set has 3 hemalurgic spikes to have powers but not be controlled by Harmony I thought: if I was in that situation Which powers would I choose?, and why?

After consider it, I would choose allomantic iron and steel and ferruchemical zinc, because I would love to "fly", or at least the closest thing we have in mistborn, and the ferruchemical zinc beacuse I could do pretty cool thing with iron /steel and increased mental speed, also it would helpt me a lot with my exams.

I would liked to know your opinion, Which powers would you choose?, and why?

  2. I would said Elend would be a windrunner and later a bondsmith, because he defies his father in order to do what he thinks is correct, and later he tries to unite the world in order to survive.

Kelsier is a edgedancer, the voice of the people, the represant of the oppressed.

Marsh, a stoneward, as he can stand against ruin´s control by pure will, similar how Taln bear the torture.

Siri(at the beginig of the book), a willshaper, for her love for adventures and being unreliable, at least according to her culture/father´s standars.

Am I correct in this assumption @Idealistic?

Yes, you are correct, I misread a Wob about how compounding works, It seems that in compounding you can´t choose, you always get the ferruchemical power.

I believe that if you know how to use the lerasium alloys you can choose between the enhancement of the power or its others effects, like when you burn lerasium, it turn you into a mistborn as a "side effect".

You were an iron misting, burned Lerasium-steel Alloy, now you are a coinshot but no longer a lurched. If you burn two alloys together you can become a double misting

I think I have read something like that somewhere, but the lerasium power is additive,as this WoB says:

    Shardlet

If Vin and Elend hypothetically each blindly ingested equivalently sized beads of lerasium, would Vin be a stronger Mistborn than Elend, or would they be equal?

    Brandon Sanderson

Yes, Vin would be stronger. It is additive, not just an overwrite.

The same thing happens with Hemalurgy; with Hemalurgy when you're spiking someone's soul, you're ripping off a piece and adding it.

So I don´t believe that if you burn a lerasium alloy, you lose your actual allomantic power.

Possibly, but then what is the distinction between hallowed and unhallowed stones? In your idea the Thunderclast can only animate hallowed stones? (not trying to be offensive, just fleshing this out).

Edit: Also where did you get that Shin belief info? is the WoB?

I belive that the only unhallowed stone is Urithiru´s, which i presume has some kind of potection against voidbringers. So yes, I think the thunderclast can only animate hallowed stones.

Szeth says several times that his soul is going to get trapped in the stone when he´ll died, the coppermind´s Shin page says that too.

  5. Cool theory, Shin also belive that after their death, their souls go to the stone, so I belive that all that "walk on stones is profane" has more to do with the fact that some voidbringer as thunderclast seems to born from stones, as we see in Dalinar´s visions.

I agree with you about the Shin having the honorblades is not a coincidence.

That leaves Physical and Enhancement effects to Lerasium.

My point was that we the alloys turn you in a misting of that metal, but It also has a physical effect, so I belive that, as compounding, you chose wich one you receive, because if you receive both can be odd.Imagine you only want the physical effect of iron-lerasium, then every time you use it yours pulls are going to much stronger than your pushes, that can be dangerous when you need balance them.

I was under the impression  that lerasium turning people into allomancers was just a side effect, not its actual allomantic effect.

So was I, I think that when anyone burns a lerasium alloy, he become a misting or increase his strenght if he already was a misting of that metal, but when a mistborn burns it, appears other effect, a physical allomantic effect, as well as the enhacement effect.

The problem is, if a mistborn burns several times the alloy he get several enhacement of his strength or not? And if he get it what is the upper limit?, Lord Ruler level of strength maybe?and then what happens?, doesn´t he get the enhacement effect?

  8.  I just found this Wob

    http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=718

    Quote

    Fire Arcadia

    Are there 50 Allomantic Metals?

    Brandon Sanderson

Nearly. Does Harmony have a metal?

    FIRE ARCADIA

Is that an alloy of Lerasium and Atium?

    BRANDON SANDERSON

    You're along the right lines.

So it seems, unless something has change, that we have: 16 (base metal) + 17 (lerasium+16 lerasium alloys) + 17(atium+16 atium alloys) + 17(harmonium +16 harmonium alloys), a total of 67 metals.

Counting the harmonium as a atium/lerasium alloy, so we have more than 16 godmetals alloys.

This is, assuming that every allomantic metal has also a ferruchemical and hemalurgic use, a total of 201 powers in the three metallic arts.

Btw, has anyone a clue for what lerasium alloys do?, in the table of allomantic metals it is says that lerasium alloys produces physical and enhancement effects, I get tha the enhancement effects are the creation or improvement of misting, but what physical effects could be?

Granted, but you can NOT tap, only store Determination.

I wish to have both Steel and Iron Allomancy naturally.

Granted, but the strenght of your pushes and pulls changes randomly between being so weak you can barely move a coin and so strong as Lord Ruler with duralumin.

I wish for being capable of control Gravity.

  10. I thought Kaladin's subplot would be about leading, as he goes to his home, and later to Kholinar, two places in chaos.

I am really excited to see the Blackthorn in all his glory, and now I am hyped about what Urithriu's secrets can be.

    Good theory, could be Kelsier!!

Recently I was thinking about it, what if SH Kelsier had gone to Roshar?, we know that it is possible to bond with a Cognitive Shadow, He may use hemalurgic to be partly in the Physical and partly in the Cognitive, so an unlucky proto-radiant may bond with Kelsierspren, he would get the surges of Surviving and Killing Noblemen(Kaladin would have loved that), with the side efect of being annoying :P.

This discussion has become pretty wierd...

Anyway, I do like Vin and Elend more than Wax and Wayne. I find them more complex, and simply better characters. Elends fears of becoming the Lord Ruler was awesome, for example.

I also know that a bunch of readers, me included, identifies with FE Elend, and that most likely adds to his character.

I love Wax and Wayne, but Wayne does not really seem that realistic of a character at all times. Wax was pretty boring in AoL but he got better in SoS.

Still the cant beat Vin and Elend.

You just read my mind, take an upvote!

Elend is my favourite character of cosmere, at least for now, and his arc in WoA and HoA is awesome, how he has to change to be a good king, and how he learns how to balance his idealism with the realism needed to rule the empire, his final speech and his sacrifice made me cry the fist time I read it.

I think the original trilogy has more depth in both the characters and the plot, the Wax and Wayne Era seems like a bunch of adventures slightly interconnected instead of a whole story, but it is true that Wax an Wayne are more casual books, and they are really funny.

Also the lack of mistborns, I belive that at least the physical allomantic powers are heavily interconected, as Spook says, having just one seems incomplete, but the twinborns are a really nice form to fix this, I have spent hours with a dice simulator thinking about all possibles combinations.

To sum up, I really like Wax and Wayne era but they can´t beat Vin and Elend, I love them and I love their caotic, apocalyptic enviroment.

Can any of you science nerds expound on Brandon's answer to more directly answer the original question?

Now you just awake the nerd in me.

Ok, as @Elenion said at low speed the heating due to air friction is minimal, but at speeds near of 340 m/s this heating increase, a plane has no problem with that, but I think a  human could die for it, so a steel compounder couldn´t run at the sound speed, he has to run a bit slower(<250-300 m/s).

But if he had hemalurgic spikes, well this changes things, he would needed ferruchemical brass, in order to decrease the heating due to friction and  allomantic pewter to resist the force due to the break of the sound barrier, with that he maybe could run even faster than 23 km/s, depends how strong pewter makes he and how much heat he can store.

This makes me think how fast the Lord Ruler could really run.

  14. I am not the kind of person who usually watch anime, I only watch one which catch my atention from time to time.

But lastly I am following 3 animes: Digimon Universe, the second season of Konosuba and the second season of Ao no Exorcist, also the film´s series of Digimon Adventure Tri.

Before that I watched Orange and Re:zero.

  15. Lightningflyer: they have the Gravitation and Abrasion surge, they move through the sky without any friction or air resistance that slow down them. They arrive in the battlefield in a flash of light and increase friction of the enemy to slow down, and if is possible to burn them.

Surgebinding is a mix of H&C.

I think an easy way to identify which Orders are more of given side is to look at the Heralds. Honor is male, Cultivation is female. There are 5 male Heralds and 5 female. Top five (WIndrunners, Skybreakers, Willshapers, Stonewards, Bondsmiths) are more aligned with Honor and down five (Dustbringers, Edgedancers, Truthwatchers, Lightweavers, Elsecallers) are more aligned with Cultivation. (also take a look at their attributes)

Even in that five Orders of Honor/Cultivation I think that the Orders with the surge of Adhesion are the closest to Honor, and the ones with the surge of Progression are the closest to Cultivation, because of the spren they bond and the Intent of the Shard.

Between Bondsmiths and Windrunners I can´t decide wich one is the closest to Honor, I would says Windrunners because they bond with honorspren and their patron was the king of herald, wich I think is the closest herald to Honor, but Bondsmiths, at least the one we know, bonds with the Cognitive Shadow of Honor, so I don´t know.

In the Cultivation part of the chart, I would says that Edgedancers are the closest to Cultivation, because Truthwatchers seems to bond normal spren but we don´t know which spren they bond.

  17. I think double iron would be like a terrorist, he stand in a building, then compuonds and the building knock down.

Although is not that powerful, pewter-iron would be a tough guy, he can reduce his weight and use his enhanced strength to be faster and later increase his weight to hit even harder than a pewterarm.

  18. 16 hours ago, Lirin's hand said:

in the end. / It has been promised and it can come. / Or do we  "

OK, this just totally caught my eye, in light of Edgedancer.  Who promised?  Instead of a shard, could it be another native species?  In light of having found out who wrote the back cover blurbs, could those same folks have enough insight to predict this?  Could the Aimians actually be their old gods?

Didn´t they have a form capable of seeing the future? Maybe the parshendi in that form saw spren bonding with parshendi and tell their people.

I think theirs old gods are the spren previous to the arrival of the Shards.

Btw, Rlain is now a squire of Kaladin, although he is not a Radiant, he has some of their power and with his own parshendi capacities, maybe this create something, not the whole "sum" because he is not a Knight but maybe some effect.

  19. I think Cohesion would allow someone to change the density and the state of matter, together with Tension you could harden your skin to be like a rock, or maybe increase drastically the density of the air around you, so any object around you moves like in mercury.

  21. Hi everyone!

I am 21, from Spain, so sorry for my grammar mistakes.

I started reading Sanderson´s books a year ago, and I have read the first mistborn trilogy, Alloy of Law, Shadow of Shelf and the Bands of Mourning, also Elantris, Warbreaker, the Way of the Kings and Words of Radiance.
