[OB] Jezrien was introduced in chapter 1 of Way of Kings
Wandering Investor replied to Rlain's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Strifelover It could also be they didn't notice. Ash mentioned not always being aware of the time, that likely applies to all of them. They just kinda ride the current for a couple thousand years and only just now notice something is wrong. That said, it seems much more likely that this is a recent (hundreds of years) development, just based on Kalak's comment, either time itself just grinding them down, or Taln's weakening. Another option would be that the decline started at Honor's death. 1500-2000 years is still a lot, but it would be easier for a slow decline in this instance. -
[OB] Most cinematic Stormlight moment?
Wandering Investor replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
The moment when Dalinar says No you can not have my pain and stands back up, maybe surrounded by see through mist like images of the horrific things he's done, a pillar of glory surrounded by violence. -
There are two instances at least when we see Nightblood doing his Nightblood thing. The first is when Szeth meets Lift, in which case she feels nauseous from the sight of Nightblood, indicating her reaction to his call of violence or whatever it is. The second is the test the Skybreakers have Szeth go through, once Nightblood is torn off Szeth, the prisoner is enraptured and goes for it. This second time also showcases an interesting rule for Nightblood, being that he will only try to wield people when separated from its holder. This is also shown in Warbreaker as people only fall under Nightblood's spell when no one is holding it, and never when Vasher is holding it, or at least has it on his person. Another interesting note is that Nightblood doesn't appear to affect Szeth at all. This is likely due to two reasons. The first is the level of control Szeth has over himself. Denth in Warbreaker shows that Nightblood can't control those with strong wills. The second reason may be the pain Szeth lives in from the Spirit echoes, he might not even notice any sensation from Nightblood even if there was one.

An interesting idea, but there are a few problems with it. When Odium tells the Fused they have a new leader in Dalinar, they're outraged that its a human. Second, Hoid mentioned dancing with one of they fused a long time ago. Unless he has the ability to see the soul, not impossible, he would have had to recognize her by the body she was wearing, indicating that she was originally a dawnsinger.

[OB] Shardplate, Shard-Zootsuit
Wandering Investor replied to GiveMeASpren(I'mCrazy)'s topic in Stormlight Archive
I imagine there are two reasons Windrunners don't have problems with this. The first is that they aren't being exposed to very high forces so far. The acceleration they're currently taking are probably a little rough but not unbearable, and as someone pointed out Roshar only has a gravity of 0.7 Earth Gs, which lowers the force they experience even further. The second factor is stormlight which will counteract both the oxygen problems of higher Gs and the physical trauma of the acceleration. -
I've been looking for something that sparked the conflict because a few things didn't add up. Why create Shinovar for people if you're at war, and in the epilogue of OB Hoid talks about dancing with one of the Voidbringers a long time ago. To me this indicates that humans settled peacefully, at least for awhile. The story seems to tell of a time when something major changed, and the spren changing sides could be a major game changer. Also, higher* spren. Highspren are a specific sub race of higher spren.

I would argue that the knowledge of..... certain entities... and their perspectives that is gained from mistborn is more enlightening. There are more ties between Warbreaker and SA, but mistborn is more relevent in terms of understanding the struggle on Roshar.

[OB] Just for fun: Fullborn v Surgebinders
Wandering Investor replied to Storms!'s topic in Stormlight Archive
@Procrastinationspren I was referring to natural mistborn/feruchemist. Hemalurgy is still an option. @hoiditthroughthegrapevine The soulcaster would be fighting the goldmind for the change. And with the Fullborn's link to Preservation and unlimited investiture, unless the Fullborn burns all their gold that won't work either.- 74 replies

[OB] Just for fun: Fullborn v Surgebinders
Wandering Investor replied to Storms!'s topic in Stormlight Archive
Fullborn don't need to sleep, and I'd be surprised if they stopped compounding gold while sleeping. But possible. We're not sure. There are currently no known fullborn. Or full mistborn or Feruchemist. I'm under the impression that Harmony has changed the rules of allomancy and feruchemy to prevent any full power set from occurring, but others disagree and think it comes down to chance and genetic dilution.- 74 replies

[OB] Just for fun: Fullborn v Surgebinders
Wandering Investor replied to Storms!'s topic in Stormlight Archive
Depends on how much stormlight she has vs how much investiture is in the metalminds. In the event the Fullborn has already compounded and stuffed the metalminds full of investiture, Jasnah would likely be unable to affect them.- 74 replies

I suspect a lot of this stuff will happen during the one year gap between books 3 and 4. While it is interesting, is mostly logistical stuff and the figuring it out part could get boring. I suspect we'll come back to more Radiants, and better defined Radiant orders, as well as a better understanding of their place in the world. Kal will probably no longer have an Alethi military rank, or maybe any Alethi any rank at all. Plus his parents will probably be in the tower by that point. As for bag instead of box, I'd prefer the box, less likely to get crushed.

This thought occurred to me whilst browsing the wiki. I saw that Shinovar has no spren, so it occurred to me that what if the girl didn't steal stormlight, she stole a spren? This would explain why the Parshendi think the spren betrayed them. The girl comes along and find a spren. The spren realize the emotions humans feel are much much stronger, on account of Parshedi emotions partially coming from the Rhythms. So the emotions the parshendi feel are only partially theirs, and they're largely artificial due to the Parshendi attuning what they want to feel. This would by comparison make the human's emotions much stronger and more primal/real. The spren then come to the humans en mass. This may have been seen as a betrayal from the spren on top of a Human going where she wasn't allowed, and could be one of the things that led to the original conflict. Thoughts?

[OB spoilers] Is Maya alive?
Wandering Investor replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
True. The length of time he's carried her will form a connection as it would for anyone, but the way he considers the blade likely makes that connection a lot stronger.- 292 replies

Something like that. Similar to how flamespren are attracted to fires, the windspren seem to be attracted to the Windrunner's oaths, or in this case the considering/approaching of the oath. Plus who knows, maybe after the fourth oath Kaladin will have a permanent cloud of windspren following him around. I believe in the cousin spren becoming the armor, but I'm curious if its the same ones following each radiant around or if they just grab whatever spren are nearby. I'm leaning towards the former, Syl will get her babies and teach them to coast the winds and stick things to Kaladin.

[OB] Just for fun: Fullborn v Surgebinders
Wandering Investor replied to Storms!'s topic in Stormlight Archive
Fullborn can also store their Allomancy and then compound that. Aka, Fullborn have unlimited super-speed and super-strength, on top of everything else. They're just brokenly op, I can't think of anyone that could match them with the magic systems that we know of.- 74 replies

Wind spren take note of Windrunner's when they're about to swear an ideal or stuff like that. For instance, when Hobber first drew in Stormlight several windspren stopped and watched him. One of the radiant gems reveals that Windrunner's earn their armor at the fourth ideal. Assuming the lesser spren become their armor, which I think is correct, windspren will form Kaladin's armor when he reaches the fourth ideal. So the windspren are appearing to Kaladin whenever he approaches/considers the fourth ideal. They appear to be not only attracted by the wind, but also by the specific style of honor that the Windrunner's employ.

Mostly what other people have put. Mistborn Era 1 (books 1-3), then all the standalones (Elantris, Warbreaker, Emperor's soul, etc), then finish off all that remains. Mistborn Era 1, Mistborn Secret History, and the Arcanum Unbounded are the mostly likely to inform you about the greater cosmere.

[OB] Just for fun: Fullborn v Surgebinders
Wandering Investor replied to Storms!'s topic in Stormlight Archive
In a 1v1, assuming the Fullborn was prepared and had metals, nothing short of Shardic intervention is likely to take them down. Even having Nightblood won't help since you're very unlikely to actually hit the Fullborn. In a 1 vs all of the Radiants, it depends on whether the Fullborn has metal to last.- 74 replies

[OB spoilers] Is Maya alive?
Wandering Investor replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
As many have pointed out, a spren's definition of dead is more akin to being broken. All of the pieces are still there, unlike a human who's soul would pass on(or something). As for reviving a dead spren, Brandon has stated its possible but very difficult and unlikely. I theorize that the reason its unlikely is you'd have to build the right connection/bond with a broken spren that can replace the old connection. Not only would you have to build the right connection, but its a one sided effort. That said, we're seeing several things in Adolin's scenario that may allow this to take place. First is the number of years that Adolin has carried the blade, which will have formed a connection, albiet not the right one. Second is Adonlin's interactions with his blade's spren in Shademar. Third and probably most important is that Adolin appears to be a good candidate for Edgedancers, and his blade is a cultivationspren and used to belong to an edgedancer. Adolin is similar to Lift in that he listens to people. He gets along with everyone, he doesn't see rank, he sees people. To answer the original questions, Maya is more alive than she was, but is still likely to be mostly dead. But if anyone can pull off a revival, I think Adolin is in a position to do so.- 292 replies

The truth's a lightweaver seeks are actually intended to raise their awareness of the truth of things. From what we've seen so far its a much more open training method than the other orders, and more likely to result in varied individuals, but they're not unchecked. And I agree with a lot of the post. Pattern's remarks are due to an alien intelligence attempting to not only understand humans, but also the world they live in. Pattern is just a scholar attempting to understand things, with a neutral curiosity. Now, this kind of curiosity isn't evil within itself, but may do evil things to satisfy the curiosity, so it is a potential future problem to watch out for, although I don't think it will be.

@hoiditthroughthegrapevine First, great name. Back to business, Brandon has stated that forces in the cosmere are attempting to limit Harmony's knowledge and awareness. It doesn't stop your theory, but it makes it very unlikely for Harmony to know what's going on. Additionally, Mistborn era 2 spoiler This indicates Harmony is likely pretty unknowledgable about the greater cosmere. Plus I see the likelyhood of Dalinar traveling offworld to be pretty low.

Sharders will happily tear your theories to pieces, but we do so positivley This gets into stuff that isn't entirely revealed. Brandon stated that Odium took all of Devotion's and Domination's out of the spiritual realm and stuffed it in the cognitive realm. How does this prevent sentience? Not sure. Its also implied, at least that's my interpretation, that Odium set the remains of the shards in conflict, possibly on purpose, which is where the pressure from the Dor comes into play. The two shards are stuffed together rather tightly. And while a unifying will might be able to reconcile a king dominating his subject while being devoted to their well being, the shards themselves are likely to reject each other, causing them to push the other away creating the tempest in the Cognitive realm. That's mostly conjecture though for now. The pressure of the Dor might also be caused by just the sheer amount of power stuffed into the cognitive realm, not because the shards are in conflict. We know that Odium took steps to prevent the Shards gaining sentience or anyone being able to ascend to them, but as for what these steps actually are, they might be the ones I listed or entirely unknown.

The only problem with this is the Everstorm. When the Fused die they don't go back to Braize, they go into the storm, then are born again. Another Oathpact may keep some of the fused that have yet to be born contained, but all the rest are there to stay. Another Oathpact would require the disruption of the storm first.
