  1. I would rather go on another explanation of Brandon's statement. Two "cities" in the cognitive realms seems redundant. And further, in the cognitive realms, distance and emptiness means nothing. So "at the end of the cosmere" would be like the world next door in the CR. So the map would also be denser I guess. First I believe indeed that the map is not complete. If Silverlight is "at the end of the Cosmere", then like earth it lies on the outskirts of the Milky way, and then their view of their dwarf galaxy should be higher. Another explanation is that the other planets haven't been noted (either for non-disclosure or from ignorance from the author of said map) and it is a full view of the Shardic systems. Secondly, it is a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional space. Silverlight being like Mos Eisley cantina, they would be cosmically aware and would have suited the constellation to their "belief" of the cosmology, just like we did with our constellations (who come from roman legacy I think ?). IIRC, there are other constellation systems in Asia. There might be others in other parts of the world. Meaning, this map is "imagined" by Silverlighters according to their knowledge of what is outside. For Nalthis they take a breathing person, a swordman in armor for Roshar, and so on. I guess they must have some wonderful telescope and measuring instrument to get to see the changing orbit of Scadrial, or just recognizing each solar system (which would explain why it isn't complete...
  2. Me neither. But so far I only thought that they were Parshendi in Stormform, which might seem silly now... On the other questions : What if the Santhid was a spy for the Sleepless/belonged to a Sleepless's Hordeling ? (the latter seems unbelievable). The Santhid followed after Shallan and departed when it was clear she was ashore. But it is a huge organism, so it seems unlikely it can "belong" to a Sleepless, or they are capable of amazing feats. For me nonetheless, both points toward Cultivation watching over proto-radiants. And she seems to have a few ways to do so. Regarding the fact that no strange cremling has been spotted, I thought about all the cremlings Nan Balat has been torturing during his youth. The better way to spy is to be unseen. For that, you would use the local "breed" of cremling and act normally around the grounds of your target to pick every few information. A lot of piece of information is better than no information (even if it is worse than the whole picture). That might be their way of collecting knowledge. Send however number of cremling is needed and replace then if destroyed.
  3. In that case, Hoid might also be Batman I believe it was stated that Hoid doesn't hold a Shard, so he can't be Bavadin

    Aluminum

It's a stretch, but being the prime-Investiture made solid, producing it might be easier than any Shardic Godmetal. The problem being the disponibility of suitable raw materials. All Investitures can be synthesized into Aluminium (as all come from Adonalsium, I assume it englobes all forms of Investiture), but a Shard's Godmetal should need a source of Investiture atuned to them I guess (feel free to share if some information in A.U is relevant. I plan to buy it, but am short on coins, so I wait and discuss anyway :-) ANd that would stop me from side-tracking too much ^^)

    Aluminum

All of this just made me think that Aluminium is Adonalsiums Godmetal. It can suck Investiture in any form because it comes from the source of all Investiture in the Cosmere. It protect from various forms of Investiture for the same reason. How cool would that be !
  6. The Netherlands and Northern countries (Norway, Sweden and Finland) have only one language, yet speak very well english (and other languages if need be). We live in the shadow of our political influence. In the past, Spain, Italy, Portugal and France (among others) had huge influence on the world through their colonies or just marriages, conquests, cultural influence, and the other people had/chose to learn our language. But now, we don't have that influence anymore yet we retain this attachment to our language, pitying an easier, all-around-spoken language which is indeed more easier for world communication. (Just my two cents). But the plurality of languages is valuable. They have rich histories and fun facts, and is a good gymnastic for the brain. Also, Learning German, Latin and Russian made me understand some basic grammar rules in french that I couldn't grasp before ^^ On topic, I wondered about your side, what is the average number of people in signings in the U.S ? In Paris, there might have been 200 peoples at most (I'm very bad at estimations) You have more events going in your country and bigger population (so the number of fan must be higher), but the distances are reeeallly not the same. Not everybody can traval to such event, so I was asking myself if a lot of people went there.
  7. French people pretend the same, but it's true for about half of them. The other ones struggle with every 2 word When I went to the Paris signing in October, there was translator with him for the stay. The open Q&A was translated for those who did not speak english (but the bookstore owner was the one translating, not the woman accompagnying Brandon). Anyway, for anyone with sufficient knowledge in english, understanding him is a piece of cake. The accent is not really a problem, and he tends to articulate a lot more abroad I noticed. If someone can't speak english, they indeed chat with him throught the translator, which must be a bit awkward...
  8. Has a planet ever been destroyed by a Shard ? I've looked around but I haven't found the question anywhere yet. I don't have any evidence or theory, just a thought about the Cosmere and its history.
  9. It might be a cognitive reaction (I warn you, I'm going to go a bit wild sometimes). If someone is, so to speak, atuned to an emotion, a brutal change toward another emotion could fracture the border between physical, cognitive (and maybe even spiritual) realm. That would open the door to the appearance of spren (and why not the unlocking of the soul for the Nahel Bond ? [==> then, have we noticed more spren around Radiants/Proto-Radiants than other people ?] ). The more tied or attracted they are to the Physical Realm, the more visible they are. The Horneaters may also have a stronger connection to the Cognitive Realm which enables them to see the spren more easily. The fact that some spren do not appear may then come from different possibilities : - They are here, but not visible - They are not here -They do not exist
  10. Really cool, and I totally agree, some concept are too different for two people to have an "unanimous" representation in the Cognitive Realm for an entire planet. Or on the other side, they do exist, but can't manifest in the Physical Realm. Maybe you can see them in Shadesmar only. Concerning adoration, an existing one is awespren. But I don't know if it is what you meant.
  11. I wondered too about this wording, but I read it as spren is singular thus "was" is correct. Each Knight only bond one spren, and each of them is specific. Their sprens were understood to be specific Their spren was understood to be specific. Whereas the Windrunner bond with Honorsprens, who are numerous, then The windrunners sprens were understood to be specific about who they bonded. But english is not my native language, so it's really a hunch. If I try it in french, we have the same interpretations...So you are certainly right
  12. Great info ! Does that holds true for Hemalurgy ? Will they create metal strings ? Could that lead to Allomantic music ? Lurcher pluking the strings with Iron pulling :-) (yes, I'm sidetracking here... sorry :))
  13. In the original 16, ok, but now that Harmony is around ? Has it changed ? I personally think that a non intervention is a help in some way. We shouldn't dig too deep. If he ought to fight something, it would be the Oaths of Knight Radiants, which schackles personal freedom. If indeed the Autonomy is relative to a region, institution, or anything else, then he would be on every battlefront to free the Cosmere, not just Sel and now presumably Scadrial.
  14. I see the Oathpact as a treaty like : you can try to destroy the planet how many times you want, but I will send people to help mankind and you must let sufficient time between your attacks so civilizations may rise again. If you betray us, you are trapped. If we betray you, you are no longer limited. The first desolation was probably very hard, but time going further, spren started mimicking the Heralds and came up with the Nahel Bond. As such, Honor became a driving force of humanity and the Heralds organised them into the KR. I don't see Honor telling them to stop fighting. They display honor, of course he would want their help. The plot twist is that both side betrayed each other. The Heralds couldn't stand the torture between desolations and quitted their duties, but Odium shaterred Honor outside of a desolation. I haven't thought it out properly yet, I need to find a link with the Black Sphere, and why this neo is the Last Desolation. What are the differences and has it any relevance. (Hey totally irrelevant, but what if the Heralds had a Curse and a Boon ? Immortality, but shall spend time in Damnation before being «reborn».)
  15. Thanks for the link, I didn't stumble upon, it. However, I believe the timeframe of the potter and Dalinar visions overlap. While reading the topic, I thought about Kaladin's visions. They could be linked but I don't think so. As bound to an Honorspren, Kaladin might have a connection to the Cognitive Shadow of Honor. But none to the Stormfather (AKA, he can communicate with him but not bond him. Shallan could see him but not hear him in the Chasms. If he can be seen, why not heard ? It could be a sign of proximity toward one's Shard, like Ruin and Preservation)
  16. The content of the Death Rattle likely refers to the Parshendi, but the origin of the Death Rattle (see emphasis), isn't related @1stBondsmith Indeed, that seems likely. But nothing more than a storm is know from the vision of 2/3 of the samples. Cultivation (and Odium) can see farther in the future than Honor, so I suggest a vision from cultivation would provide further information than one from Honor. They have neither the same intent, nor the same precognition capabilities. The quote only indicates that one Bondsmith was always in attendance in Urithiru, not that there will be more than one. The one in urithiru was " in continual accompaniment of Urithiru and its thrones ", a kind of Bonder of nations. But the others could go to other needed places to bond other things (pacts, treaties, nations, peoples, etc...) In my opinion, there could have been more specific spren at the time, but either they disappeared because of a lack of sentient thought toward them (less representation in the cognitive realm, and so their physical form is less potent => That borders on the Godspren/mythology concepts and I think that if fewer and fewer people believe in a thing, the concept of it (Ideal in Shadesmar) becomes weaker, the same goes for the Cognitive Shadows I suppose.) or they died like the other spren. I totally agree, it is indeed said that it was seen as seditious for them to raise their number. But I read it as a sedition among selves rather than a complete decimation of the KR. If they create bonds and pacts and treaties but too much of them with too much interference in the intents, goals, or way of "ruling" are in action, it would become a problem for the Oathtakers. It is more akin to a conflict of interest in my mind. P.S. : Concerning the 2/3 sample, I want to add a saying : Once is luck, twice is coincidence, thrice is a scheme
  17. Hello everyone, I have a question about the "evolution" of Bondsmiths, and the specificities of their order. It might get tangeant sometimes though... From what we learn in Words of Radiance : We know they were few, and had specific spren. From what we see with Dalinar, that last point is obvious, as the Stormfather is really specific ("godspren"/cognitive shadow of a Shard). From what we know about Dalinar's case : We know that he received visions from the Almighty (through the Stormfather, IIRC ?) We know (at least, in comparison with the other orders), he can't posess Shardblade (Whether it stands also for Shardplate is yet to be seen, but that seems likely, as the Stormfather said "Shards") From what we know otherwise : We know that some Spren sought the possible proto-radiant. IIRC, that is the case for the Cryptics (Pattern) and the Gardeners (Wyndle). some others probably went out to search for candidates. In light of all this, I wonder if there will be other Bondsmiths other than Dalinar in the books. If we take seeing visions during Highstorm as a clue toward someone being a proto-Bondsmith, then there are already three candidates that we have heard of. Indeed, we know that Gavilar had visions too, about the Almighty and a storm coming (WoR, Interlude I-4, Taravangian PoV - memory of a discussion with Gavilar the day of his assassination). A Death Rattle also gives us a clue about another candidate : I don't really know if there is a causality in play, but we could have two possibilities here : You are predisposed to be a bondsmith and you receive visions when you start believing in the First Ideal, You star believing in the First Ideal and you are led toward the Bondsmiths through the visions the spren sent you because he chose you (The most probable answer, as the Stormfather says to Dalinar in Ch. 89 of WoR : The visions in themselves seem to be the path toward Bondsmithing : "Unite them". But in 2/3 of the cases we know, they seem to appear only after a person read the Way of King. And it got Dalinar at most 5 years between the time he heard of the book and the time he bonded the Stormfather. So in my opinion, if this is the way to become a Bondsmith, there might be new Bondsmiths to come, but that will have to wait for the second part of the Stormlight Archive. Unless there are other "Godspren"/Cognitive shadow of a Shard, that could become the spren of a Bondsmith, and started selecting candidates. But it seems unlikely because of what the Stormfather said to Dalinar about not "being bound in such a way as to kill me" which suggests to me that he bonds with multiple persons because if he is bonded multiple times, a person betraying his oath won't technically kill him. There is as much holes as in Emmental cheese in this post, but maybe you genius will figure something out or discard it immediately I searched for anything irrelevant but didn't find anything. If I err, I'm sorry ! EDIt : minor typo and change of point concerning the Shardbonding. Plus, I realized I'm not in the good topic. Could a moderator please help me move it in the relevant section ?
  18. Thanks for the info, I'll just stop thinking about that and continue working about my theory
  19. Yes, Occam's razor is the key :-) WoB states that Hoid is a name he stole from someone else. The someone else could be a character he took from a book, because the purpose, goals and all the stuff this Hoid were supposed to do inspired him. Or there is an ancient lore about a potential savior in the Cosmere, and Hoid took it upon himself to be that hero. But it reminds me too much of Mistborn, so I guess it isn't that either (or he came to Scadrial because of it ?)
  20. I see two answers : - either Hoid is so cosmere-aware, that, like Deadpool, he knows he is a character in a story. - or he might have changed his past ? I haven't read the Emperor's Soul yet, so I don't know every detail about Forgery, but from what I gathered, it could be possible, no ?
  21. Oops, sorry for that. I arrived here through the research bar and absolutely didn't notice the dates when posting... Mea culpa and thanks for the warning
  22. Hy WeiryWriter, that was our group, that went to the signing (I'm the one asking the second question ), this video was meant for the members of our Wheel of Time based-forum (La Pierre de Tear) , so indeed, we filmed nothing about the Cosmere. There is another video on the facebook page of the library with further questions to the author. But I don't remember any spoilery question. However, I also asked a question about WoR. But I don't have audio sorry... At the time, I didn't understoood that Pattern was never trapped in the safe for more than minutes and asked the following : (paraphrased) I wondered about Shallan's eidetic memory, and about the possibility of trapping a spren. Could a bonded spren be trapped inside a gemstone and trapped in a safe ? If so, would something else - not Investiture related - fill the "crack in the soul" ? Could that be linked to her memory or her need to draw before Lightweaving ? In and about, he answered that what Shallan does isn't out of the ordinary (which I'm not certain, she shouldn't have to draw before Surgebinding, as she has done before. And does again in Ch. 88. Maybe it is Ideal-based ?), and it is possible to trap a bonded spren inside a gemstone. Aside from that I got a R.A.F.O. card. It was my first signing and I shall say it is a bit intimidating he is however a nice person. I wished I could have asked more questions...
  23. I'm personnally leaning toward the fact that Breath will enable a colorblind person to see colors again. As stated, Endowment and the Tears of Edgli are really tied to colors, so holding sufficient Breaths to get the Thrid Heightening should permit the Colorblind to see colors. If the Colorblindness is genetic, a lot of Investiture could correct the Spiritual DNA, no ? Just as long as the Heightening is reached, I mean.
  24. Hello everybody and good day to you all, I'm a new member who registered yesterday. I've been reading the books of Brandon Sanderson for 5 or 6 years already. I discovered him, as many readers, through the Wheel of Time. As of today, I'm finished with all major cosmere books and am waiting impatiently for what is next I love the Cosmere and like finding clues, oddities or discrepancies and reflect on what it is about . On the other side, I have many unanswered questions for which I have yet to delve into the forum and see if I can find interesting tidbits. See you around !
  25. Are the coincidences between the ardents and the monks only coincidences, or is there a deeper meaning in the Cosmere. Could there be an upper virtue which is pursued throughout the whole Cosmere ? When we know Vasher has a link with Roshar, I wonder if there is even a deeper relationship between both cases, why nt even from outside intervention ?
