  1. I like the thought that Endowment had a hand in making Nightblood. At first it seems weird that a Shard would create something like this but then she kind of gave him the ability to "endow" himself with more power. It also makes me wonder if this is why she is not afraid of Odium. She created Nightblood as a tool to somehow stop him.
  2. Like the title says, I am re-reading the SA and noticed a two thing I have not picked up on before. 1) In the epilogue of TWoK Taln arrives "speaking perfect Alethi, no hint of an accent" but in WoR Dalinar says, in regards to Taln, "I can make out some of it, Elhokar. It's Alethi. Northern accent". I'm assuming this means that Taln has some kind of connection to the land similar to what the medallions in BoM do and that is why his spoken language changes. Also this would mean that the unclaimed hills/shattered plains have a greater connection to the old inhabitants of the land than to the Alethi that are currently living there. 2) When Mraiz gives Shallan the task of infiltrating Amaram's camp and finding out what he knows, he tells her to not harm Amaram because his life belongs to another. I assume he means Kaladin and if so, how does he know about everything that went down between Kaladin and Amaram? Kaladin has only told Dalinar and Moash (partially) at that point and Amaram only involved trusted men in his plot. I also think it is unlikely Mraiz had a spy in Amaram's inner circle because he could of just used that person to kill Amaram instead of sending Helaran. My guess at the moment is that there is an Amian (I forget the name of the cremling type) working for the ghost bloods and feeding them this information. What do you guys think? Are my observations just me trying to find something that does not exist?
  3. I am re-reading TWOK and came upon the part where Hoid is trying to find out if Dalinar is Comere aware. I realized that I act the same as Hoid in these situations: "I know," Wit said, then looked directly at him. "Adonalsium" Dalinar frowned more deeply. "What" Wit searched his face. "Have you ever heard the term, Dalinar?" I do basically the exact same thing every time someone tells me they read Brandon's books. Anyone else do this when trying to find out if another reader is Cosmere aware?
  4. This is really cool, thanks for doing this!
  5. That seems the most likely to me as well but I'm always suspicious with Brandon and Hoid. I feel like he slips things in that I always overlook until re-reading with more knowledge (Like Hoid saying in the story that the Voidbringers came from the origin and me assuming it was a perpendicularity. I should have realized the Voidbringers were world hoppers).
  6. So I am re reading TWOK and just got to the part where Hoid is telling Kaladin about Derethil and the Wandersail. Before getting to the actual story he says "Derethil fought the Voidbringers during the days of the Heralds and the Radiant" (pg 803). Assuming this story is real and that Hoid knows who the void bringers really are, would that make Derethil a human who fought along side the Fused?
  7. I, like most of you, have been re-reading the SA and recently got to chapter 46 in WOR. As I was reading the pre chapter except from the in world WOR text, I realized that Brandon slipped in a good joke and I missed it everytime I have re-read this. "When Simol was informed of the arrival of the Edgedancers...stuff...also, they (referring to the edgedancers) were the most articulate and refined of the Radiants" I cant stop thinking of Lift being the most articulate and refined of the Radiants haha. I figured I would share this in case any of you missed it too. Edit: Sorry i just realized that this is in the wrong forum, I though I was in the SA forum. Don't know if this needs to be moved or something.
  8. Now I see what you were saying. I did not know about the SA. It makes me wonder what other abbreviation I have been using that might have another meaning.
  9. I think this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutzstaffel) is what Rasha was refering to but I could be wrong. That being said, I think we would be fine using it.
  10. So the big issue I have with this is that the KR killed all of their spren. I don't believe it would be possible to convince all the KR, especially the windrunners to kill their spren just because some of them were being corrupted. I think it would be more likely for them to tell their spren to stop forming bonds and then let the KR die off over time or even do the honorable thing and sacrifice themselves to protect their spren. They would stop the members of their orders who were corrupted and the bonding would not continue. I don't think they would decide that the best option was to commit genocide when there were other options.
  11. Thats a good point. And that makes a lot more sense with the last desolation happening in Shinovar (as a few theories have said/suggested). If it was cut off then you probably could not soul cast and that would have been a really bad place to fight as a KR. Do you think that has something to do why there are "normal" creatures in Shinovar instead of the crustation like one in the rest of Roshar?
  12. I have been re reading TWOK and read Rysn's interlude (I-4) today. She talks about how the grass does not retract and how there are no spren there. She says that she assumed the grass was just slow and took longer to retract but she realized that is not the case, it just does not retract at all. So that got me thinking about why there are no spren in Shinovar and how Hesina told Kaladin, in one of his flashbacks, that all things have a spren. If that is true, then the lack of spren in Shinovar might mean that nothing has a spren there and explain why the grass does not retract, because it is not "alive" like the grass in other parts of Roshar. For that to be true, I think Shinovar would have to be cut off from the cognitive relm somehow. Does that seem possible to any of you? I can see it being the case with everything that is different there but it seems kind of crazy. Any thoughts?
  13. Dang, I can't believe I missed that. Thanks for quick answer.
  14. Sorry if this has been answered in the past (I tried to search for it) but has allomancy been used in the SA? I heard that it has but have never been able to catch it. Also, besides Yolish lightweaving have other forms of investiture been used in the SA? Thanks for your help!
  15. That sounds like a good idea and thanks for your help!
  16. I believe this is the right place to put this but I'm sorry if there is a better place. I have been trying to avoid everything about Oathbringer until the book comes out but just had a quick one pulled on me. On the forum page where it has the SA link with Edge Dancer and Oathbringer under it, there is a link to the most recent topic on the right side of the page. This link includes topics in the spoiler board and I did not know that. Its not a big deal but I figured I would point it out in case this is something you all think should be changed to not include content from the spoiler board. Thanks and sorry if this is the wrong area or an intentional part of the quick links.
  17. Yeah, It missed the bone so its all good. Just a flesh wound
  18. You cut your finger on a table saw and, while sitting in the ER, think I wish I had stormlight right now. Edit: you know your wife is a Sanderfan when after telling her about this post she replies "or pewter"
  19. After reading that again I think you all are right. It seems breaking the gem would not work. Thanks for the clarification
  20. I believe Navani said they were added to allow the blade to be dismissed and then re summoned. If that is correct, then the shard bearer will still be bonded but unable to summon it. I'll look for the convo though
  21. Going back to the op, once you have the shard blade to their throat just have them summon and drop their blade and the break the gem on the hilt. They won't be able to summon it anymore and it can be returned to them if need be.
  22. Yeah you can bond multiple blades at once and I believe the colors are listed in the ars arcannum in the chart for the ten essences but I'm not positive. For the Heralds, Szeth mentions their names in his prelude and I believe most of them are mentioned in the prelude to the SA. As for surge binding when you don't have your blade, the answer is yes. Szeth does this in his prelude while killing guards on the way to gavilars room. For some reason though, I thought that you needed to have it summoned to surge bind but just re read the prelude about a week ago and caught this. Im not positive on the other questions so I figured I would avoid sharing false ideas (assuming the above is correct).
  23. I think of this every time I do the dishes and thought I would share. P.s i am uploading this from my phone and hope this works. There is supposed to be a picture with this post
  24. Well Nightblood is WAY more invested than a shard blade and it eats investiture. Personally I would be worried for Syl because she might be damages badly if she comes in contact with Nightblood. That being said, Calderis is right, Szeth can't even draw Nightblood at the moment so Kal would win. Once/If Szeth becomes a real Skybreaker, then I would have to go with Szeth. It will be interesting to see if he does become a KR, I don't know if spren will react well towards Nightblood.
  25. Ok, that makes a lot more sense, I was wondering how I could have missed something like that. Is the leather bound version the only one that has the extra stuff?
