Here's a thought. How would computer technology develop in Scadrial? Conversely, how about AI technology? In a world where memories, where the soul, can be derived from metals and alloys, would any AI immediately take on sentience? Would it be something Harmony would approve of? If an AI dies, does Harmony greet its soul before it goes on the great Afterlife Express?

I feel CD's have been foreshadowed. We know copper can record visual and auditory information, but currently that only works when someone is holding a necrosil token. One option is that everyone in the future will be sitting on the couch holding coins while a movie plays before their mind's eye... But somehow, that seems unlikely. Still, it's on its way, I think.

Technology or any kind of scientific development in this world, either or is ripe for speculation by my book. And I like that idea for Bloodmakers... though I would imagine that no matter how altruistic the Bloodmaker, not every body would accept any organ or blood transfusion if they weren't compatible. Blood types and all that. I'd imagine there would be professional doctors who could determine donor/patient compatibility before any surgery is implemented. At least, ideally. Also, cadmummind oxygen units? Perfect. Simple, practical, completely bypasses any need for cumbersome oxygen tanks- And if the series is heading towards a space opera finale, you can bet these would be a boon for space travel.

I wonder if cyborgs will be a thing in Scadrial. ... And depending on what kind, they'd be horribly and monstrously strong, wouldn't they? We already know how strong a master of the Metallic Arts can be when their bodies are pierced with metal, imagine what it would be like if they were intwined with that metal, married flesh to steel in a way not even an Inquisitor could possibly comprehend? In other words, OP as fuuuuuu... Suddenly, an Inquisitor or Koloss doesn't seem that tough when a Terminator can do a better job.

One of the many, many, many things I've loved about the Mistborn series? Sanderson took care to see how Allomancy or Feruchemy could affect societal development. In a world where, what? 10% of the total population at the least can derive superpowers from so and so alloys, it's no wonder we quickly went from a medieval society to a thriving steampunk civilization with guns, airships and all that other junk. Imagine how things might look a century or so after? According to Sanderson, Era 4 will ostensibly be set as a space opera series, where combining Allomancy and Feruchemy will somehow uncover the means for FTL spaceflight technology. If so... what else can we look forward to? Era 3 is supposed to have computers and "80's era technology," so we're talking early spaceflight tech, robotics, missiles... ... I guess what I'm saying is, if Brandon includes mecha in either forthcoming Era, I would die happy. Especially if it's Era 3; it'd be like Mistborn meets Patlabor, that'd be awesome. In general, just imagine an Allomancer or Feruchemist going up against a giant robot (be it a bipedal mech, a spider tank in the same vein as Ghost in the Shell, etc); how is that not all kinds of kick-chull? What're you hoping to see in the future technology of Scadrial?

Ooooh... and if it's just Siri, it'd be total bishie bait.- 23 replies

I always figured the implication was that they were just a projection of his own frustrations with the town, all products of his own mind. If they were real, it'd take the sting out of the whole layered gag, I'd find.

What's wonderful about Steve as a character? His whole existence is predicated on the inherent gag... that all the cool weirdness the listener has come to roll with and the ordinary inhabitants of Night Vale take in stride...? Is not normal. At all. It's unhealthy, cultish and aggressively creepy when you're looking at the town without Cecil's rose-tinted lenses. Outside Cecil's perspective, we see how every character (including the man himself) we have grown to love is from the outside... essentially indoctrinated by a paranoid, bizarre, nonsensical and absurd culture of conspiracies, pseudo-science and Lovecraftian horror. Steve is the man in Plato's Cave who sees the world outside the darkness and campfire of the cave, ignored by everyone at best and outright exiled at worse for daring to speak the truth. ... And in truth Night Vale faction, even Carlsberg isn't immune to Night Vale's weirdness. He isn't as sane as he'd like to believe, either. The symbols in the sky, anyone? It's a wonderful bit of double subversion right there.

I dig! So, essentially... Adolin - Marth Kaladin - Link, perhaps Marsh - Ganondorf Shallan or Jasnah - Zelda or Robin Szeth - ... Greninja? Raoden - Robin or a male Zelda Vasher - ... Hm. Hard to think of a good analogue. Vin - A more powerful Sheik. Wax - Fox with more punching power, Wayne - Roy- 23 replies

We could always slightly exaggerate certain character abilities, i.e. Vivenna could use scarfs as extended legs Doctor Octopus style, Ham could leap pretty high, etc.- 23 replies

What about a more Smash Bros style? Something that equally rewards slow fighters and fast fighters alike. Still 2D, but kinetic and wide enough for full mobile combat.- 23 replies

Sure, there're action sequences in Warbreaker, but the majority of the "action" is all character driven drama and politics and (in Lightsong's case) investigation. To make Warbreaker an action game, you'd have to primarily rely on Vasher as your main protagonist instead of Siri or Vivenna. ... Which, come to think of it, would be kind of ballin. It'd make for a great stealth action RPG.- 23 replies

Seems to me it's on the backburner for the forseeable future. Shame, too. I love the idea of an inFamous-esque Mistborn game. Dishonored might be the closest thing to a true Mistborn game out there, sure, but Vin fights more like the lovespawn of X-Men's Magneto and Guts the Black Swordsman from Berserk than she does as an assassin. Less sneaky-stabby-stabby, more "OH DEAR GOD A TORNADO OF DEATH!" Plenty of powers and skill trees to unlock, Pushing and Pulling across Luthadel, fighting other Mistings and Mistborn, Inquisitors for bosses, Koloss as exceptionally tougher minions... Hell yeah, it could be a lot of fun. Really, Sanderson should have reached out to CD Projeckt. Imagine their level of polish and effort and detail into something like The Witcher 3 and transplant that to Mistborn? You'd have a winner.- 23 replies

Here's a fun idea for a topic~ Picture your favourite Brandon Sanderson novel (since, after all, this is his official fansite)... as a video game. Here's how this works. Pitch your favourite novel or novels, then state what video game genre would best fit an adaptation of said property and explain why you think it's the best fit in the first place. Oh, and any details about mechanics or how you'd approach turning any of these worlds from a video game angle would be plenty cool. For instance... since neither Warbreaker nor Elantris are as heavily action-oriented as Stormlight Archive or Mistborn, imagine a Telltale-style point and click story game. When you consider Prince Raoden, he's more of an investigative scholar and diplomat than an action hero like Kaladin or Vin, a Walking Dead-esque game would be perfectly suited to exploring a story mechanically in his shoes. What about you guys, how would you like to see the Sander-man's work adapted into video games?
