If Sanderson Characters were Pokémon Trainers...
Quadrophenia replied to Quadrophenia's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Odium is Dark. Ruin is Poison/Dark, because he's the anthropomorphic personification of _Decay._ Preservation's easily a Fairy/Grass type (life deity, all that). Etc.- 49 replies

If Sanderson Characters were Pokémon Trainers...

Kelsier? ... He deliberately crafted an image for himself as someone who was bold, larger than life and, well, mythic. ... He should have an Aggron. Largest Steel-type I can think of.- 49 replies

If Sanderson Characters were Pokémon Trainers...

Kaladin, I feel, as a Windrunner and a top soldier would have primarily Flying and Fighting-type Pokémon (I could so see Lucario on his team)... and if you want to include Honorspren as Pokémon (Fairy/Flying), he has Syl as the one token Fairy on the team. Vin has a Houndoom, as a nice reference to TenSoon. Beyond that, I'd like to imagine maybe a Gothitelle as her token "girly" Pokémon to represent Vin's feminine side and Bisharp or a Scizor to be her main heavy hitter Steel-type. Vasher... Vasher is sneaky. Dark or Poison would be his thing, but natch he'd have an Aegislash.- 49 replies

Whenever I get really bored and I happen to be into this or that, one way I like to pass time while working or walking my dog is entertaining this little geeky-as- hell hypothetical. "What if the cast of this thing I really like (i.e. Avatar: The Last Airbender, Fullmetal Alchemist, Harry Potter, etc) were Pokémon trainers?" I applied this line of the wonderful world of Brandon Sanderson... mainly the Cosmere series, since I haven't gotten around to reading The Rithmatist, The Reckoners Trilogy or the Alcatraz series (is it even any good? What's the read on that?), but yeah. What if your favourite Cosmere protagonists and antagonists were Pokémon Trainers? Would they have a single-type thing going? Would they have any sort of unique theme that reflects their character? For instance... I can so see Vin as amassing a team of Dark and Steel-type Pokémon. And what Cosmere creatures would make great Pokémon? Calling it now- Chasmfiends? Either Ground/Insect or Insect/Water, since they're a type of Greatshell. Mistfiends are Ghost-type Pokémon, obviously, most Spren would be a Fairy-type with a secondary subtype save for Voidspren (Dark/Fairy, I'd assume), Koloss are Fighting-type (possible secondary typings: Steel? Dark?)... Heh, what do you guys think?

Who Wants Good Podcast Recs?!
Quadrophenia replied to Quadrophenia's topic in Entertainment Discussion
The basic gist of Harmontown is that Dan Harmon, his friend and Whose Line Is it? alumni Jeff Davis get together on stage, drink heavily, interview audience members, rant about anything that comes to mind (pop culture, politics, race, gender), and sometimes play tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons and Shadowrun. Speaking of which, Dan recently produced a show that animated his D&D adventures...- 18 replies

Who Wants Good Podcast Recs?!

Have you ever heard of "Hello from the Magic Tavern?" It's a narrative comedy podcast. The premise? A guy accidentally drives through a magical portal behind a Burger King in Chicago and winds up in the magical land of Foon, a Narnia/Middle-Earth/WoW-esque fantasy world. Luckily, he just happened to have his podcasting equipment with him, so he quickly set up shop in a local pub called the Vermillion Minotaur. While he can't drive back to Earth or even walk through it, the portal is now just big enough to allow a slight wifi signal to seep through from the Burger King. So, he uses this opportunity to record interviews at the tavern with all sorts of colourful characters, along with his two best friends in this world (a talking badger and a hammy parody of Gandalf). It's awesome, I love it.- 18 replies

So we already have a thread dedicated to the ever awesome Welcome to Night Vale~ The thought occurred to me, then, how about a thread dedicated to all the other amazing podcasts waiting out there in the digital ether? I'd like to share my kind of recommendations, if it'd be cool with y'all- Lore: A horror podcast dedicated to discovering the truth behind classic folktales and urban legends... and finding that maybe, just maybe, the truth is scarier than fiction. The Myths & Legends Podcast: It's like the above, but for classic myths and legends. The Thrilling Adventure Hour Podcast: A throwback to the radio serials of yesteryear, starring wonderful comedians like Paul F. Tompkins, Patton Oswalt and Keegan-Michael Key and other amazing comic talents, this is an anthology comedy series dedicated to affectionately parodying sci-fi westerns, noir stories, horror, fairy tales and the like. It's awesome and awesomely funny, can't recommend it enough. My Favourite Murder: Two very funny women discuss, well, their favourite murders. Alice isn't Dead: From the same creators behind Welcome to Night Vale comes a wonderful sister show that's actually scarier than its elder sibling. Harmontown: Any Rick & Morty or Community fans here? Dan Harmon's an interesting fella, gotta say. What do you guys think?

God, that'd be cool. Not to mention, something like the 3DMG would be more in-line with technological advancement on Scadrial when you incorporate the Metallic Arts than, say, inventing pulpy jetpacks. Jetpacks are cool, but given BoM has just proven Scadrial has effectively established man-made flight that doesn't rely on natural resources in any possible way (profoundly cutting down on emissions and greenhouse gases ) I don't quite see the necessity for their invention if one could just create personalized machines that could (through necrosil) replicate Pushes and Pulls for a similar and cheaper effect. Now, going back to medicinal science... We've already covered what a potential boon Bloodmaker donors could be. So can I propose something else? Tineye or Windwhisperer Doctors. Think about it; imagine how much more accurate a surgeon could be if all five of their senses were heightened to superhuman levels. They would be more precise, they would know exactly where to cut without endangering a patient's life. On top of that, specially trained doctors would be able to smell certain chemicals in the body to determine an accurate diagnosis or catch certain tumours and cancers in a preventable stage- That last bit, I admit, was inspired by a plot point in the Hannibal TV show where Hannibal, cannibal extraordinare, was able to pick up stomach cancer, stage four lung cancer and encephalitis in various characters through scent alone. So imagine that, but amplified.

That's a fair point. The Medallions undercut the Allomancers themselves. Even Allomancers will be obsolete in their own world! That's just crazy. This would be like if in, say, the Harry Potter universe Wizards ditched the whimsical owl message delivery system for... the internet. It's kind of depressing, in its weird way.
