  1. I for one would very much like to see that reference. It would mean al ot with my theory about Hoid's nature, and his origin as a cognitive being. Partly finished in transformation could mean many things, and if a Skaze could see that, it as a great bit of information.
  2. Sweet! Thanks. I hadn't heard the 10th was available in hard and soft. What did we learn from Hoid's attempt to transform? He was surprised, but do we know if he was trying to change, or to travel through a perpendicularity? Pools can be tricky and Hoid has a good deal of pool time by current books. As far as we know officially, this is the first (Yolen likely, but not cannon)he has been seen entering. Raoden didn't change, but he didn't want to. Roeden did lose the Hoed state, but was still old Elantrian. Is your intent going into the pool critical to it's function? What was the Skaze's response, and was it surprised by what Hoid did? Do we know if the Skaze was bonded to Hoid? That would be something very interesting. Bonded to Dominion and trying to turn Elantrian by Devotion (I know there is a disagreement about which is which)... seems to be collecting again. Vax as a planet where, or in what connection? Again, thank you.
  3. I have two different copies of Elantris (hard and soft) and with purchasing all the other Sanderson books in hardcover, I found it impossible to justify $100 more dollars to buy the anniversary addition for the small additions I have had described. Do you know of a short list of additional information we get from the anniversary addition that is not in the hardcover? I am aware of maps additions, and a short chapter with Hoid and a Skaze at the end where he does not turn to an Elantrian when lowering into the Pool near Elantris; but what I am looking for are any other details that are Cosmere-important, or Hoid-revelatory that people who have not got the new addition ought to know. Remember, we can't copy whole sections, and pictures are probably a copyright infringement, so please filter down to the information gleaned from them. I would hope that this becomes a good reference post, or that someone links me to one that may already exist. I spent 4 hours combing the forums and did not see one. Gratefully...
  4. Upvoted for both humility and wit. Both are needed more. On the search question, I have been a member for a week now, and tried in vain to use the search function for three different topics, because there were so many entries, (even when I used specific phrases), that I didn't have free time or patience enough to check all necroed postings. Forgiveness and good links appear to be the best response. Children are mentioned very little in the book as a whole. How many races have we had children mentioned/seen on screne in...1 in Stromlight and three in all the books of the cosmere? Seems no exception here with Parshedi. Not much of a mystery in my opinion.
  5. To be honest about my opinion, I have a hard time saying that any living being is on the sun; just not like Brandon to have a conflicted physics thing going. But if he were on the sun side in space, or in orbit, but not in the sun, I can see some sneaky hinting there. Also, his perpendicularity need not reside where he does. Perpendicularity can be on the planet, while his avatar is not. We saw this with Sel, Roshar and to an extent in latter Mistborn. If Honor's perpendicularity still works, and he is dead, why not residing in orbit? That all said, I would find it more pleasing if Autonomy were on the planet.
  6. Yeah, I just read the quote. He starts out saying that asking about the location of a shard on the sun was a very good question and clarifies the original question from, "Is there only one shard on Taldain?" to the answer, "There is just one shard in the solar system". That rules out two, but does not say that the location of Taldain's shard is not on its sun. It left me wondering about his word-smithing.
  7. Another thought on Autonomy... Since the shards are all 16 Intents of a god-like power, a God's automony is that no other power is needed to make it exist or live. A shardic autonomy would require not being ruled over, but also not needing other sources of power to keep it going. It does not fight organization, but Honor required an agreed upon bond to someone or a belief, where autonomy would resist any. This is probably what Brandon meant when he said that Autonomy and Honor were probably the least alike.
  8. Hmmm... This just gave me a brain cannon. We have all assumed that the "Shard that isn't on a planet" is in the future spaceship of Mistborn, or even alone hiding on an asteroid, but what if he is on Taldain's Star. It answers a good deal of the investiture question as well as keeping the count open for more Intents. This might be the one we thought we knew nothing about. Very Sandersoneque to be very specific about not being on a planet.
  9. Many splinters were there before the shards made them. These are the Unmade, as the shards did not make them. I will try to search for the quote later. They may be splinters now, but they were not always.
  10. I like you first premise a great deal. I had not put together the paragraphs before, and it fascinates me. (have and upvote!). The second point makes a big assumption that a Voidspren was bonded to Radiants. Wow! that would be a big jump in my opinion. I know that three shards would like to have three highspren for symmetry, but there are many unmade, and that blows the one each theory. Also, though they may now be under Odium's control, a WoB said that they were there before Odium, and I think before the other two shards (not sure about the last part). Finally Honor is dead, but his highspren remains. Is Cultivaion limited to one as a live shard? I Like the Eshoni bonding idea. Could be great with Moelach. Finally, I think that the Parshendi will eventually break free and fight Oduim, but this will be at the end of the series. It was somewhat alluded to in their songs, about what would happen if they were no longer overlooked by their Gods (plural). Who better to lead than Eshoni. BUT, I do not think she becomes a Bondsmith to do so. Not a radiant, but bonded in the Listener way. Perhaps Moelach does not take over, but simply guides? Who knows!
  11. I read recently that a fabrial's powers were directly tied to the cut and type of stone. That the pattern of light that shines from it directly effects the power. It would seem to me that a money chip would also be most effective at holding stormlight if it was cut a certain way. The worse the cut, the less stormlight it would hold (or hold it for a shorter period of time?). This would also be effected by the lattice of the stone chosen.
  12. A WoB stated that the reason that there could only be three Bondsmiths at a time, was that there were only three High Spren that could bond to make one. Usually, there were only one. I don't have time to research the quote, but I am sure it is so. The mission of the Bondsmith is what we don't have a good bead on. The only information I can offer is what Brandon wrote in my book: "XXXXXX XXXXXX (name edited for privacy), welcome to the order of Bondsmith. Your first duty will be to keep the peace for all." Huge duty for an average Knight. The control they have over bonds is what gives them power over KR. However, this would leave them pretty open to danger from those without a bond (no sword and all). Can't wait to find out what it takes to be inducted as one. Brandon said he didn't think he would make it through the trials.
  13. An old Canadian Comedy show called the Red Greene show had an odd mountain guy who used that quote in his advice section to other men. He was a duct tape fix-it kind of guy and being handy was his mantra. Seemed to fit the one-armed Herdazian better. The old show is worth Youtubing. Funny stuff...
  14. Q. What did the RED and GREEN Herdazian say to his brother, about to be married? A. And remember, if they don't find you handsome, and least they'll find you're handy!
  15. Being somewhat uniquely qualified to comment on this (...er, the Username), I believe you will find in the next book, how the Nahel bonds are made and broken will be further explored, and there you will see how the Bondsmith (or the Herald with similar powers) can destroy all Radiants. It also allows people to trust in the oaths that have been made by the Radiants. Consider it speculation if you want, but just avoid trying to use the surges for your own ends instead of for the goals of the Order. It won't end well. Trust me.
  16. I do not believe a bond is formed when the Good/Evil test is passed, you are just no longer the focus of the test. Good guys are spoken to and bad guys are destroyed. No other power has been described yet, and certainly no evidence of using a power granted by the sword. Speculation about being granted extra powers on Roshar is just that,..speculation. The reason that Nightblood is referred to as an artificial spren, is that it is a focused concept (Destroy Evil) that with enough investiture and other workings yet to be described by Vasher, has achieved sentience (like some more powerful spren). We don't have any other examply of humans forming a spren, or seon, or avian etc. This does not imply he needs to be bonded. That appears to be a Roshar thing. We don't know if that is needed with his huge investiture, or what level his sentience is, considering his very numerous blindspots in comprehension (time, change, and others mentioned in Warbreaker). You do have a good point about other worlds' bonds though. It will cause me to ponder for a while.
  17. I have a very close relative who suffers from depression and anxiety that has effected her vision of herself. This made the Kaladin chapters very hard for me both times I read them. I kept hoping and waiting for him to burst out of it! Finally, when purpose hit, and he had a mission to focus on, he blossomed. It is the same at my house. Purpose has filled the gap and I have my sweetheart back. It makes the book more personal than it probably should be for me. Scary how correct Sanderson is on the depression and the military mission aspect of this. Makes a guy wonder... On Dalinar, he does more than the action shows. There are a lot of changes going on internally that have changed him from being the Blackthorn bully, to being the benevolent dictator. How he acts from this time forward with the various orders will require the second, not the Blackthorn. My own children have pointed this out in me. It is a critical part of leadership and loyalty. Pretty deep stuff for a fantasy series. I love it!
  18. Forgive a parallel but different view. I read no evidence of Nightblood granting any particular power to its owner, other that to be able to speak to their minds. It feeds of the investiture around it, including the holder, thus Vasher needs a constant supply of investiture. But now that he is no longer holding Nightblood, he only needs enough to feed the equivalent of a Breath a week. Nightblood's directive, "to destroy evil", leads it to test the intentions of the people around it. It takes their souls by force or by (absorption?) when killing. But I never once heard that it granted the holder abilities. These appear to have been learned over centuries by Vasher and the other 4 Scholars. Two of them were swordsmen excelling Vasher, and they did not have Nightblood or a weapon like it. This is very different from an Honorblade, and requires no bond like a dead shardblade. You only need to pass the Good/Evil test of Nightblood to use it.
  19. Odium's obsession with cosmere dominion seems the exact reason Autonomy would not work with him. He would not work with anyone, and he woudl not like a system that would rule him. It sounds good on the "Survive" side of things, but I think we have another shard involved here.
  20. Well thought, and intentionally set up. I think he is following his "honorable" rules, only to find out he has been lied to by the folks back home. He is no longer a Truthless, and the reason he is the perfect Skybreaker is his adherence to honor. What his Herald doesn't know, is the conflict he has when he finds out he was lied to. He doesn't know Szeth's anger at all the murders he was "forced" to commit, nor his feelings of betrayal at finding he was right all along about Surgebinders returning. This hits at the soul of his religion, and when we get more of his backstory, we will see the distinct possibility of his turning on the council, returning the dark stone, and even possibly telling the Radiants about the Honorblades. It will be some fun twists and turns indeed.
  21. Szeth said he hid it. That would not imply giving it to someone. And as we all know this MUST become important later, Szeth's death came as a huge shock to me till he was revived. He alone knows where the stone with Dark Light is. So we need him later. I don't think we will hear anything about it's location till Szeth decides to recover it. I could be wrong, but I think he must join the united Knights at some point. Perhaps when his Herald comes to himself with the others...
  22. I prefer the theory that this is from another world, unknown to Harmony, as he said. This allows for other shards steering their power, similar to how others have theorized Harmony has sent Kandra to gain knowledge of other worlds. The color of the cloud surrounding the world held off by Harmony was coincidentally the same color as the blotchy metal. I think there is another power attacking (or of not attacking, at least trying to take some control. Can't prove it with the info, but it seems a very likely answer considering what hints we have been given.
  23. I think there is more planned for the power of splintered shards than we have access to yet (other than the hints about the DOR yearning to escape and be used). I think splintering may be able to be undone, or massively combined to draw on the powers. (Elantris as a focus still works, and huge powers can still be activated the old way). But the splintered shard cannot have a mind to control its use. At least not all of it. Would it take a massive group effort to refocus the DOR on a single entity to recombine a shard? Could that ever be coordinated and pulled off? Could someone create enough connection to draw in a splintered shard and not just one that is in tact, but not tied to a person? (like dead Ruin or Preservation). I think all this is fodder for asking the IRE, or a combination of other shards (Harmony?). Either way, a recombined shard seems possible. Could this be done piecemeal (gibbletish)?
  24. "If Odium is defeated" seems to carry a lot of baggage with the word defeated. Remember, power is not destroyed, even in the Cosmere. So we can only assume that replaced would not be defeated, combined would be bad at best, but contained seems to have only a limited timeline (see the Oatpact and the Heralds). So that leaves three more options: make him leave a system and call a local victory (for us, the Cosmere Elite, this would be very unsatisfying); get him to use his intent in collaboration with other shards (wow! this starts some weird brain cannons); or possibly a recombination to a balanced Adonasium state. I have always assumed this is Hoid's ultimate motive. We have no clue to how it would be done yet, but the story of the shattering would shed some bright light on that. If it is the final, what good is the Champion mentioned in WoK? There is more to this than just turning over territory. Honor trapped Odium, but had to trust to the heralds and the honor of future people to sustain the trap. Do we even want the trap again?
  25. Would a Sudonyme be the name they use with mortals, or their first name?
