Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
PantsForSquares replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Ooh, my own cooking show. The bane-ana is alright - kinda like that one guy who just saw the world upside down. I'll get used to it, I suppose. Granted, but when the Glorious Spider Revolution eventually takes over, your building will be the last bastion of humanity. Your bane is that you'll be the only one there. Forever. I wish for my own theme song to go along with my Nightwatcher-sponsored cooking show. -

Granted, but everyone also feels all of the guilt that their increased compassion causes, and the world is collectively less logical. I wish for the ability to make amazing desserts of all types. -

Granted, but the meta-Sanderson Avalanche permanently damages your mind. I wish to be a full Feruchemist. -
Spolier Main characters in 2n half of SA
PantsForSquares replied to bdoble97's topic in Stormlight Archive
I got the impression that Renarin was chosen sometime during or after the Battle of the Tower* - which means that whatever went on in his head during that time was what attracted Glys in the first place. I never got the idea that it was his disability that made the Nahel bond possible. *If someone can pinpoint the first moment when he's described as not wearing glasses, that would help a bunch to get a proper timeline on Renarin's bonding. I can see Renarin being forced into a leadership role, since he's one of the first Radiants, but I doubt that he's going to be an actual soldier in the vein of Kaladin, Adolin or Dalinar. While he's got the discipline and initiative, his gift of foresight and his intellectual leanings make him infinitely more useful in a support role than anything. He might get involved in early fights, but once the Radiants are more significant in number, we'll probably see him manage things from the sidelines (or go on a secret knowledge quest like Jasnah did). -
DRAFO - Didn't Read And Find Out
PantsForSquares replied to VirtuousTraveller's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Bands are defined both as "articles for binding the person or the limbs" - which is their archaic use - or as "a stripe or elongated area of a different color, texture, or composition than its surroundings." (as in a banded iron formation). -
DRAFO - Didn't Read And Find Out
PantsForSquares replied to VirtuousTraveller's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The name itself is a ludicrously amazing pun. The Bands are described as being "woven" with metals. It's literally got metallic bands in it. -
Cultivationblades? Odiumblades?
PantsForSquares replied to Lord_of_Awesome's topic in Stormlight Archive
I suspect that the Dawnshards might be Cultivation's analogue to the Honorblades, but this is mostly speculation. We haven't seen any of the Dawnshards in action, so unless we see them in a later book, we won't really know what they are. -
To add onto this, even aluminum's unique property of being resistant to Investiture applies to other Shardworlds. In Sel, for instance, it is the only metal which cannot be Forged. Since there are alloys of aluminum which maintain its Investiture resistance, they should also behave similarly on other Shardworlds.

The metals that hadn't been discovered in Era 1 were cadmium and chromium, as well as their alloys (bendalloy and nicrosil, respectively). Aluminum and Duralumin were implied to be suppressed by Rashek, as he didn't want any Inquisitors with the ability to burn Duralumin (at least, according to Sazed's speculation).

My favorite part is the fact that A Hero for All Ages exists. The ambiguity in its title make it sound like a either really awesome historical play, or potentially an adaptation of the events of Mistborn Era 1, but for kids. Like a historically-accurate version of Disney on Ice, but with Allomancers and Steel Inquisitors. The weird part is, I'd like to see both versions. It's an actual quote by Spook.

It'll be a real Hoid-venture, all right.

You could also be an Aegislash. Be the spike. -
We know that she's a Nicroburst, and that there's supposedly going to be a Mistborn serial killer.

So long as it's one of the sixteen base metals, it should function on all Shardworlds. However, things get complicated on other worlds when it comes to alloys. On Scadrial, the prevalence of the Metallic Arts means that the composition of Allomantically-correct alloys (and things like Allomantically-inert aluminum alloys) are a subject of study and are going to be common knowledge to metallurgists. On any other Shardworld, however, the relative lack of importance of metal compositions means that it might not be easy to get your hands on alloys of the right composition.

Second Annual Sanderson Tournament
PantsForSquares replied to Patar's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Vasher for sure. He's one of two people alive at the end of Warbreaker with comprehensive knowledge of Awakening. Sure, he lacks the raw power that Peacegiver's Treasure would normally give, but he can definitely stay alive longer than whoever is using Nightblood. -
how does hemulurgy tie in with twinborns specifically compounders
PantsForSquares replied to Dan r93's topic in Mistborn
So, out of curiosity, how does burning a Hemalurgic spike work? Does it require the Allomancer to actually ingest the spike itself (which is going to hurt, and probably cause all sorts of internal bleeding fun times for the Allomancer), or do they merely need to have the spike impaled somewhere? -
Theories about what did Kaladin do to Szeth's Honorblade
PantsForSquares replied to goody153's topic in Stormlight Archive
While we're on this topic, I asked Brandon something related to the Honorblades, and got a neat little piece of information. I'd completely forgotten about it until today, but here you guys go. There's minor Oathbringer spoilers, though, so open the spoiler at a small, small risk (considering that I didn't get RAFO'd, it's not really that significant).- 22 replies

That's actually an interesting point, because it brings up a possibility that I hadn't considered before: What if Hoid wasn't after the lerasium bead for the Allomancy? So, we know that F-Nicrosil can be used to store Investiture-related abilities (like the Metallic Arts, for instance). What if Hoid, post-FA, has been using Nicrominds to store whatever ability he has, and is then using the Allomancy he gained from his lerasium bead to Compound his power? It would greatly amplify his ability to actually get to the right place at the right time, at the potential expense of having a stock of nicrosil. Whether or not he's been using Allomancy to Compound nicrosil is merely speculation, but this idea has cemented the possibility that Hoid is using F-Nicrosil for his "right place, right time" power.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
PantsForSquares replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
That can be rectified. Granted. It shall be revealed in The Lost Metal that there's been a Gasper Ferring who has, after years of building a pressurized suit made of cadmiumminds, managed to successfully walk across Scadrial. Including underwater. Your bane is that he's crushed by a falling musical instrument of indeterminate size immediately after successfully completing his amazing feat. I wish for feet small enough to wear my kickass boots. -

Granted, but you can only ever shoot one end of the portal. The other end is a randomly determined point in space, including the portal's entry itself. Should that ever happen, it will collapse upon itself, tearing open a rift in space-time and destroying our universe as we know it. Your bane is that you're guaranteed to get this collapse in five years, but you don't know when. I wish for the most awesome shoes to ever exist. -
Dalinar's blade isn't Taln's Honorblade - that got swapped out sometime while Taln was in captivity. Taln's Honorblade is described as being a spike, IIRC, but the one Dalinar has is more cleaver-like in appearance. Here's not one, but three WoBs on the issue.

It's going to be pretty hard to awaken a nicrosilmind. First of all, awakening metal requires the Ninth Heightening. Next is the difficulty of Awakening an object that has no resemblance to a humanoid shape (most metalminds are bracers/bangles/rings/earrings), which increases the cost in Breath to Awaken it. Furthermore, it's always going to be harder to affect an Invested object with more Investiture (see: Szeth commenting on how it's harder to Lash someone with Plate), so trying to Awaken any metalmind is going to be a difficult affair.

All of the Orders had access to Shardplate, but not all of Knights used it. Source:

Huh. I stand corrected. It's strange that it isn't ten, though.

My personal theory is that the three Godspren are one of Honor (the Stormfather), one of Cultivation (Presumably the Nightwatcher), and the third is of Adonalsium - and predates the Shattering. There isn't much to back it up, but the only alternative is having a Bondsmith bound to Odium. There should be ten Unmade, given how the number 10 is fairly significant in Roshar. Presumably, they correlate to the Ten Deaths like the Heralds do to the Orders of the Knights Radiant.
