Inform them you are now the Highprince of War and they have a plateau run at 1800 hours sharp. Force them to wear uniforms if they don't shape up and try to duel any stragglers for their fancy dice.

    Problem: Blue screen of death.

Remember, Lightsong's head priest, Skip I think he called him. He couldn't see anything but splotches of color in the paintings that were brought to show Lightsong. Yet Lightsong was able to see dire warnings in them. Maybe the blue screen has a dire message in it... Perhaps you should do like Skip and take it to someone with the ability to see something beyond the blue...

Thanks so much everyone! @DarkJester I have read the first two Kingkiller and really liked them. I should read the novella.

If you want to read the novella, try and get it from the library. Even rothfuss said it wasn't something many people would like. It is different. I liked it better the second time I read it and understood what it actually was. (It gives you a behind the scenes  look at a certain day from Auri's POV.) It's different. If you were still wanting something short by him, he has a story centered around Bast that's really quite good. It's in a book of short stories about rogues, aptly named "Rogues". It was actually the book that he was writing Auri's story for, and it just ran too long. So he decided to do one for Bast. I can't say that Bast is my favorite character in KKC, but he is one of them, and this story gives you a peek into the daily life of Bast. It's quite enjoyable, and you get the rest of the book filled with short rogue based stories as a bonus. Some are quite good.

At the end of Words of Radiance, it is revealed that Taravangian asked the Nightwatcher for "Capacity."

Clearly, Taravangian believes this capacity to be related to his intelligence, given the focus on the Diagram and his daily tests of his intelligence.

But there is something else that varies on a daily basis for Taravangian.

What if he has it backwards? What if Taravangian's curse was his intelligence and his boon was the expanded capacity for compassion? What if what was needed to save humankind was a Compassion Diagram instead?

(My first post. Apologies if this has been mentioned before. I didn't see it when searching.)

I'm always up for an interesting theory, and I really like this one. Good job.

I´m not sure if the boon and the curse are so strictly divided in this case. Someone else proposed the theory (if i´m remembering correctly) that on the day he created the Diagram he was smart enough to figure out when he will be smart or compassionate. The Diagram is a plan to make him seem like a perfect ruthless champion for Odium, so he will be chosen by him, but the day of the final confrontation between Odiums and Honors champion will be the day he is equally compassionate to how smart he was during the creation of the diagram and he will sacrifice himself to save humankind.

I hadn't really thought of this ether. Considering how smart he was that day, it's completely possible.

  4. We could set up a bridge 4 camp for free loaders the only way out is to work down their "slave debt." They have to run bridges and experience the lives of bridge 4. Including running the assault on the parshendi. The arrows would be tipped with safety tips of course, but makem hurt! Won't take long to work the laziness out of them.

So Hoid started off an an idea, like words on a page. And he stole himself....

Has Brandon hinted on another character being in the same situation?

In Secret Histories theres a conversation between Kelsier and Ruin that goes:

"...Look at you, Kelsier! You haven’t form or shape. You’re not alive, you’re an idea. A memory of a man holding the power will never be as potent as a real one with ties to all three Realms.”

Ruin, a god describes Kel as an 'idea'. And whats Kels profession again?

Well nice job catching details like that, but considering... Secret History spoiler.

    Spoiler

Hoid actually shows up and commences to beat the crap out of Kelsier... It makes it a little unlikely that Kelsier is actually Hoid...

  6. Ok. Era 2 of Mistborn has a Wild West type setting. So I was wandering. Where are the lurchers working as prospectors. I don't really know how deep the blue lines would show into the ground, but I would imagine that it would work in water. They wouldn't even have to go in the water and pan. They could just grab a shield and start pulling the gold out of the stream straight to themselves. Let the gold hit the shield and fall at their feet into a pan and suddenly they are rich and barely  had to work for it.

    Thoughts?

  7. X.x Seriously guys... All of the bad puns on this site have corrupted me. I am completely serious when I say this. The wind was blowing hard here today. My wife looked up and saw some birds flying, and she said to me, "I wander how they can fly into the wind so easily." It was at this point that I smirked, adjusted my glasses and said to her, "I don't know. I guess they're just... Sparrowdinamic!" Yeah... She hit me... I swear. You guys and your cookie puns have Ruined me...

  8. Wow. It seems that Sanderson fans tend to develop similar super powers... I wander if there is a theory behind that...

Anywho. My super powers have already been mentioned, but I'll list them anyway.

Invisiblity. Not at will, but against my will... I'm 6'4" and 300 pounds. I'm freaking huge yet no one takes any notice of me.

Apparently I have @Jondesu's ability to speak into alternate realities. Again, against my will. It results in me having to repeat myself multiple times before I find the right one.

Surprisingly Speed, and at will. It only comes in short bursts, but I've had people that should have been much faster than me look at me like I had just performed a flash step.

Not sure if this is a power or a weakness, but I seem to lack the ability to scream in fear.

Super sleep. I can fall asleep in 10 seconds flat. I want to say this one is against my will, because it happens at times I'm not trying to fall asleep, but it's just too handy to complain about.

And last but not least. My primary offensive weapon. My singing voice. Unlike my regular voice that takes several attempts to be heard, my singing voice never misses its mark. It has been likens to a group of ally cats, and a pack of coyotes trying to out sing one another, and it has the power to bring large groups to their knees in pain...

  9. Ok. So in Secret history we see that preservation had the form of a human whenever he manifested himself to Kelsier. From that, I'd say he was obviously human before taking up the shard. We have Ruin on the other hand, that any time he manifests to Kelsier, has the look of spiders and such forming his face. He even has spider like legs shoot out of his body to impale him. So was Ruin an aimian before taking up the shard, or did the shard make him look like that, and that's why he wants to destroy everything...  Also. If he is an Aimian, does that imply that there were world hoppers before the shattering of Adonalsium?

I'm sorry, but how do we know that Harmony has been influencing events on other worlds? This is the  first I've heard of this.

I don't know that he has been influencing other worlds, but I think it's hinted at that he may have kandra working as his eyes in other places... not even sure of this at the moment.

other than mistborn what other BS books have you read?

Wow... I totally just read that "BS" the wrong way...

  12. Not sure, but when I read it, for some reason it made me think of the Japanese Honorifics. (I think that's what they are called) kun, chan, sama and stuff like that. Probably wrong, but that's just how I took it...

Hello and welcome to the most pointless post you will probably ever read on 17th Shard!

I was just enjoying the warmth of my apartment while the snow blasted outside making the landscape a winter wonderland from out of the songs. As I was musing on the various aspects of the first Elsric Short story that I am writing, an odd thought struck me. Susebron from Warbreaker is one of the characters I find most dear to me. Unlike most of my other favorite Cosmere characters I simply enjoy the fact that his is pure and devoted to doing what is right because that is his nature. I mean the man has the mentality of a teddy-bear who also happens to hold enough Breath to break a kingdom.

As I was contemplating, I suddenly asked myself, "What if the God-King was to step outside in the middle of a snowstorm? Not only is the ground solid white, but each flake of snow suspended in the air is about as pure white as you can find in nature. By Hoid's left buttock! It would be like watching an atomic color bomb!" Now that is a paraphrase, but essentially such an event would be one of the most interesting things to observe in the Cosmere. I added to this post a couple attachments that I think help capture what such an event might look like.

I hope you enjoy this little mental image! This post is utterly useless other than to wish you a Happy Holiday my fellow Cosmere Scholar. If you find any other conceptualization of what a God-King color apocalypse would look like please post them below for our amusement! Until the next random post, have a great end to the year!

Oh wow... My side hurts... Love the "By Hoids left butt cheek!" comment. On a serious note, someone needs to get this idea to Brandon. This has to be in one of his stories. The God King defeats the bad guy by simply walking outside in a snow storm, and throwing the enemy into seizures. So great.

The illogical alternate ending I cherish is:

      Reveal hidden contents

The "My name is David Charleston and I kill Epics thing", but David dies and the bomb kills Calamity.

It would be more badchull, but also wouldn't really make sense. Still. Badchull.

Lol. Do you watch HISHE (How It Should Have Ended) on YouTube? I believe there were talks of a Steelheart movie. Perhaps if they go through with it and make this series we will get a HISHE with your ending.

  15. I'm pretty sure that the parshendi originally worshipped Honor. It's stated that the storm father was once a friend. He was on the side of the parshendi. After Odium showed up though I believe he must have corrupted them, since the storm father turned his back on them. I assume they were no longer honorable. They used to have a mediator form, but the gods changed it to a form of lies. It's like the were given honorable forms that later became corrupted. The parshendi still hold to this natural affinity for honor. Kaladin notes that he saw more honor from the parshendi than any human army he'd fought.
