  1. I'm desi, though not Hindu, but I'll say that Brandon is generally cognizant about these things. I'd be shocked if he doesn't have Indian and Hindu sensitivity readers (or alpha or beta readers).

YMMV, it's really hard to find good representation nowadays. Even the books published by POC authors, it seems like the ones that get published and read by a white audience (the majority of the English-speaking world) often read like they're for a white audience more so then our communities. So I'm not particularly hopeful, but ironically I suspect Brandon will be more careful based on things he's said in the past and the fact that he can't fall back on the fact that he's POC to avoid criticism.

Traditional publishing has a great deal more marketing potential, however I've become more concerned lately with the amount of influence they can have on the book and its success. I recently spoke with another church member who works as an editor, and they warned me that if you go with traditional publishing you have to beware the cultural Babylon that's dominant there.

what do you mean by cultural Babylon? I'm not familiar with that expression

    I will follow @Akimikoisthecutest

you don't need to follow anyone, you're not under suspicion. only people who voted for mist can have the gun rn

since this is most likely scenario 2, the only action you can take that would be helpful to you is to search for an item. there's no point in confirming where players were on N0 since that's irrelevant to who has the gun now

This is also making me a bit suspicious of why doc is pushing for a different plan- to reveal the hero. Doc should know better than anyone that this plan would work, having received a follow notification the first night. I think doc has the gun right now.

do you mean because doc didn't work out that your plan would work, or because you find doc's plan inherently suspicious?

If you're the Hero, you've already won, and nothing can take that away from you, unless you are a Hero with a gun, and shoot the gun.

So our scenarios right now are

    1) hero doesn't have the gun. That narrows down the pool to 3 people, 2 for me.

    2) hero has the gun, but doesn't shoot it - you die, but become the first winner, guaranteed

    3) hero has the gun, and shoots it, which is objectively the worst solution because you're lose the hero status and then lose the game when you die.

So from my perspective, there is no downside to confirming who the Hero is. If the hero is still alive the next day, we know that they didn't have the gun, and can look at the other 3 people.

If the hero dies, then it's a little more complex because it could be

    1. the hero had the gun and didn't shoot it, or

    2. That they were killed.

Still, logically, for the first possibility, the hero could just inform us if they have the gun. For the second, shooting the hero is a dumb choice because it narrows down who has the gun.

Does this logic check out? There's literally no downside to one of us four claiming to be the hero?

the logic's sound, but I don't think this is going to work out because I'm not the hero and the rest of you are also claiming not to be the hero lol

as for fallen's plan, I'm happy to follow someone to clear myself. I'll follow @Verdance

The Gun and the Hero are distributed independently. They could go to the same player, or to different players.

if thats the case, the hero can potentially both survive until the end of the game and win at the same time right? in the case where they never get the gun, they don't have to choose between winning and survival?

can more than one player be hero at a time? is it a permanent status?

Did mist say he had the gun?

mist confirmed that he had the gun on N1

  7. rip verx 😞

my current understanding of the rules, assuming mist was telling the truth:

one of the people who voted on mist (fizz, star, doc, or myself) is currently the hero

the hero can choose to either not fire the gun tonight (in which case they die and win the game) or to fire the gun and kill another player (if successful, they will survive) @Araris Valerian am I right that if the hero doesn't fire the gun, they'll die over the night and their death will be announced in the D3 write up?

either way, the smoking gun will move to a new player on N3 (if the gun holder is ex'ed on D3, the new player will be a hero; if not, the new player will have to kill someone because they gain nothing from restraint)

and then the gun pretty much circles around until there are two players left. so this does feel like a "everyone for themselves" scenario. there's really no village win here. there is an upside to ex'ing the person holding the gun though, because one of the people who vote correctly will have the choice to win the game or at least survive the night (not like they can be killed if they're the one holding the gun). so there at least, we have incentive to ex whoever the current killer is

mist would have no reason to lie if this was scenario 1 or 3, so I think we can be pretty confident that we're in scenario 2

also can someone tell me what FFA stands for?

  8. 10 hours ago, Doc12 said:

Also, asked you this in PM, but curious re: your reasoning for following me. Why is me not voting for Striker suspicious to you?

sorry, I missed that. basically I was curious to see if anyone would break or change the tie on D1, and you did so I wanted more info on a potential e!Doc/e!Striker situation

    9 hours ago, Mist. said:

From what Doc told me, she seemed to bring it up herself and had double checked everything in her GM PM, and when Star and I were talking, I was also getting V!vibes from her.

As I’ve mentioned(or, Doc mentioned that I mentioned) this is a terrible thing for either of us to lie about, if I was going to fake a claim, I could have said I got lost searching for her(it’s a 20% chance) or I got a clue(those are almost impossible to verify), as for her, it draws attention to herself unnecessarily, no one was under scrutiny, so it couldn’t have been to protect anyone, and in a scenario 2, that wouldn’t even mattered because there’s only one killer at a time in FFA.

it's not really a horrible claim for an elim to fake if they forgot that people are notified on being followed, especially in a game with as many potential rules as this one

I hope someone convinces us otherwise because I don't want brax to die :(

  9. 1 hour ago, Doc12 said:

Yes, it was a PM conversation. Star said Araris didn't say anything about her being followed. I told her I got confirmation, and she said she asked Araris if she would have been told if she was followed. Again, this read as genuine to me, both her relief at someone confirming her story, her saying that she specifically checked with the GM if she should have received a notification, all that.

if this is the case, I think it's more likely that Mist lied. e!Mist could easily have killed dive and claimed to follow a player they could reasonably guess was telling the truth (since they'd know star was village). seems more likely that e!Mist forgot a rule than e!star either saying she didn't get confirmation when asked point blank (assuming that's how the PM went?). like I feel like that could prompt e!star to check the rules if they forgot

there's also a sliver of a chance that e!star was thinking of dropping out of the game, the elims saw doc catch this discrepancy, and then they came up with this plan to make e!mist look good. they'd have to be taking advantage of a hell of a specific circumstance though

I'll look over everything if I get a chance tomorrow

  10. I followed @Doc12 and can confirm that he's being honest about his exploration claim. He saved Striker so I wanted to look into that.

Star says Araris did not mention she was followed in her GM PM.

did this happen in a PM? I'm not seeing anything like that in thread

So I might have forgot to submit my action until after the deadline. I know everyone is going to think I'm lying but I'm not kidding. I got so mad 🤣.

once I forgot to take my action on the last turn of a game and would've won if I did. so it could be worse 😂

I agree. I will hold off on voting this round, im not fully convinced, but the only person that jumps out to me as suspicious is Star for now.

    5 minutes ago, Conure1243 said:

I'll hold out from voting, as I'm not very sure I know enough for me to place it on somebody already

you should play however feels best to you, but I will argue that voting gives the village important info to sus people out because it's a concrete action you can't take back. everything else is up in the air because you never know when someone is lying. people are rarely 100% sure in a game, and even when they are, they're still wrong sometimes. I think voting on the wrong person sometimes is just a necessary evil for these games

just something to think about, but with all that said, I definitely don't wanna pressure anyone to vote if they're not comfortable

edit: oh, and @Doc12 I’m actually pretty confident you didn’t get a message saying you got followed

very curious about why you felt skeptical about this

  11. 1 hour ago, Mist. said:

    We got told C by Araris, it’s 65% and C doesn’t change

And even if it did, the number of alive players vs the number of players is different

must have missed that. thanks for clarifying

given the percentages, I'm not really sure how much we'll be able to discern from clues (pending araris' answer to my question above, but I think I figured out the intent as I was writing it up). so I'd say searching for an item is about equally as helpful right now (there are a couple good ones, it's just not very likely we'll get them). and then searching for another player is really only helpful if we're already suspicious of them

  12. to answer the question on why I voted for fizz, out of everyone who had votes at that point, they seemed the most likely to me to be elim. they had a few posts but no strong opinions

    @Araris Valerian

    Spoiler

Clues have a C% chance to be from the pool of clues for the current scenario, and a 100-C% chance to be from a different scenario.

are the clues that have a C% chance of being found the ones that are unique to the scenario or does it include shared clues?

so taking this one for example:

    • Remnants of an explosion/gunshot (Scenarios 1 and 2)

if we were in scenario 1, would this have a C% chance or a 100-C% chance?

Is this a poke vote or an actual vote?

its a real vote. I feel like we're too late in the cycle for pokes

I felt kind of bad for wahr, fizz is my next best guess, and I'm very curious to see who, if anyone, breaks the tie

@Verdance I'm like 95% sure that votes can't be case privately. you can't do it via DM, only in thread

I understand what you are saying, but it doesn't change the way that I feel. It's not the "what" of heaven that I have a problem with, it's the "how long". Eternity is just a horrifying idea to me. Heaven sounds like it would be a pretty great place to spend a few million years, but a few million years is 0% of eternity. Billions of trillions of years is 0% of eternity. The Poincaré recursion time of the human brain is 0% of eternity. The Poincaré recursion time of the observable universe repeated Graham's number times over is 0% of eternity.

Heaven for as long as I want it and then I get to stop existing when I'm done? That sounds great. That is something that I would want to believe in. Not something that I would believe in, but something that I would wish were true. But heaven that lasts for eternity and I have no choice? That still horrifies me.

interestingly enough, I had (and still have, though I think I've gotten a little more desensitized) the same reaction to the concept of immortality when I first came across it in fiction. it horrifies me and isn't something I would want, but for some reason when its the afterlife, it doesn't bother me

I think you'll find though that "eternity" might actually not mean never ceasing to exist, if someone believes that there is an end to time, which some do

  15. mm okay I'm gonna take pity on Wahr. and will move my vote to Fizz

    Mint(2): Striker, Wahr

    Akimiko(1): Dive

    Fizz(2): ____/mippo, Mint

    Wahr(2): Fizz, Star

    Fallen(1): Mist

    ___/mippo(1): Qian

    Striker(2): Doc, Mist

    Mist(1): Fallen

@StrikerEZ curious on your reasoning for keeping your vote on me since the initial vote was a poke vote?

4 minutes ago, Through The Living Star said:

So I am new to SE, but I called it a poke vote because all these people before me called it a poke vote; I figured that's what it was. (look below for all the mentions of poke vote)

a poke vote is essentially poking someone to say "hey say something". its something people do on D1. it's not really a "I find you suspicious" vote

the pinned SE rules/etiquette post might have a better explanation, I think wilson defined some common terminology in there
