This is the stormlight spoiler board, and the OP was asking about stormlight, not Cosmere in general. Can you please spoiler that at least?

These descriptions are really interesting! This is a lot of new information about the orders. I really like the descriptions of how things were while the radiants were active. It reminds me of the age of legends from WoT, I always wanted to see more of it. I really hope we will get to see radiants becoming more than just main characters, but actually a landmark of the world, like Aes Sedai in WoT. Oh yeah, and I got Truthwatcher.

I think Dalinar will keep it secret, otherwise there really is no way that Taravangian can expect to remain king. Dalinar doesn't want more chaos now, so maybe Taravangian is counting on that.

I don't think we really know exactly what Lift got. She's partially in the cognitive realm now, but is that all she got? If it is, then I think that means Cultivation actually gained something here, because of a quote from Jasnah. Jasnah said that getting to the cognitive realm is easy, but getting back to the physical realm is hard in WoR or OB, I don't remember where. If that is true, that would mean that the cognitive realm is at a lower energy state than the physical, and so to push a part of lift info the cognitive the nightwatcher had to take energy from that part. Now I'm wondering what would happen if Lift were to go to the cognitive realm. Would she be partially in the physical realm there?

I personally doubt this. I am relativley sure that it is said in his interludes that not only are his very smart days decreasing, so are his very compassionate ones. I think that the entire deal with the nightwatcher is that you give it something and it gives you something in return. If Taravangian was storing the thing that he was giving her, then the pattern would be broken. Now, I know you might reply to this by saying that Cultivation gave him his boon and curse, and that would be true, but I think that she'll stick to the same pattern as the nightwatcher. The nightwatcher obviously does what she does for a reason. I think that she always gives and takes because that way she gets more Connected to Roshar, without losing investiture. By doing that, she understands people better, without becoming weaker in the process. Because we know that Cultivation doesn't want to overextend herself either, I think that she would act in the same way. When giving Dalinar his boon, she follows the same pattern - never giving freely, always taking as well as giving. At the start, right when they meet, Cultivation stole a lot of his memories. Then, later on she returns those memories. The net gain is 0. I think it would be the same with Taravangian.

Yep

Oh well there goes that idea. That's interesting though, I didn't think Brandon would go into so much detail.

The girl who looked up is actually a story about Edgli's Tears, the flowers that are commonly found in Hallandren are the light that was hidden behind the wall. When the girl brought seeds of the flowers to the rest of the world, they began to grow the flowers as well, and because of that they could use breath much more effectively. This was one of the main causes of the manywar. Endowment helped the girl escape from Hallandren because she wanted to endow the ability to effectively use breath to the rest of Nalthis, and she didn't like that the power was kept by only one nation. This story was later brought to Roshar by worldhoppers from Nalthis, and the story then evolved over hundreds of years to become what Shallan heard, because the Rosharians did not understand breath and what the flowers were, only that they were good, and that they caused a war. I remember someone in a past thread about this pointing out that the silence above could be silence in the heavens - the shards have died or aren't there anymore. The dying storms might therefore be a consequence of that.
-
Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure they meant that the unpredictable results can happen depending on where they are in the unweaving process. I don't think that it's just completley random.

The black hole that will be created will be gone in a blink. Because black holes can be so small, they will just move between the particles in the planet, and because of hawking radiation it would die out very quickly. They'd need to actually make a black hole of some size in order for it to do anything, and as noted in the post, that will take unrealistic amounts of time and metal.

WoR ch 63 - do we know who the woman is pattern wants to visit?
Gderu replied to Miggins's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really don't think this is important. I can't see any of the heralds doing this, not if we are meant to have a measure of respect for them. Sometimes a madwoman is just a madwoman. -
TOP 10 Reasons the COSMERE should be Animated
Gderu replied to prayingforsuperpowers's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I mostly agree. I have watched and liked Avatar, but the rest of the anime shows I've seen have not been my cup of tea. I would be fine with a show that has an anime art style (animated characters and places) without all the extra baggage (like your example). -
I think that we've already had discussions about Wandersail. The last announcements were a couple of months ago.

A Detailed Theory on the Identity of Odium's Champion
Gderu replied to kaladin22's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is a very interesting theory. I'm not sure you've entirely convinced me, but it is interesting. One large problem with it is that the other heralds still trust Ishar. I would think that after leading the Hierocracy and starting the false desolation, they would know not to trust him. -
Booknerd's guide to the cosmere vol. 2 magic and it's interactions
Gderu replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Brandon has said that the Cosmere is like our world, except that it has investiture too. Like energy and mass are the same thing in our world, energy, mass, and investiture are the same thing in the Cosmere. The Cosmere has fundamental laws that are very similar to our own. If they weren't so similar, their worlds would be completley alien to us, without any resemblance to Earth. -
Booknerd's guide to the cosmere vol. 2 magic and it's interactions

The point of having fundamental forces is that they help us understand the universe in some way. Sure, our understanding of everything isn't perfect - but it holds for most cases in which it is needed, and that is why we use it. If the surges were also a useful concept, and were widely applicable, there would be no problem with using them. The problem is that they aren't. If the surges were fundamental forces, you would think that they would describe everything in a good consistent way, but they don't do that. They are a mess of things that don't belong together being lumped together anyways, and of effects of fundamental forces being thought of as the force itself. I think that it's pretty obvious that abrasion (making things stick together) isn't a fundamental force. It's a result of perhaps ridding the space between the two objects affected of air and thus creating a vacuum, which sticks the two things together. That could perhaps be part of the electromagnetic force after a fashion (the EM is what causes the molecules to stay apart, which is what causes the objects to move into the void), but it's obvious that this is a very roundabout way of looking at things. They also group light and sound together in Illumination, which makes very little sense. Light is electromagnetic radiation, while sound is a wave. Those two things are simply not related. Both of these example surges are places in which I could see their society failing to understand what is actually happening, and because of that assuming it is some kind of fundamental force. That is why I don't think this theory makes sense - the surges are a concept made up to explain nature, but without all the scientific rigor we use today. They remind me of some ancient civilizations believing that Fire, Earth, Water, and Air create everything, in that they are both ways to explain the world around us, although the surges are more complex. That is why I am opposed to your theory. You use a relativley primitive society's understanding of the world as the basis for everything, and that doesn't make sense to me. -
Booknerd's guide to the cosmere vol. 2 magic and it's interactions

I agree with Gilphon. The way you describe steelpushing and ironpulling is simply incorrect, and cannot be correct, because they simply don't function in the same way as gravity. This is most easily seen in TFE when Vin Pushes herself up on three anchors and floats in the sky. If the force there was gravitational, you would expect to see her bob up and down in continuous motion until the air resistance slowed her to a stop. That is not what happened. It is specifically said that when she reached the tip of her steel line, she simply floated, without moving. Because of that, the force that affected her couldn't have been a weird lashing of a sort. I also don't really understand why you specifically said that everything is made out of the Rosharan surges. Why not Aons? This choice doesn't seem to have much evidence to support it, and we haven't seen anyone talk about the surges outside of Roshar. I think that that is proof enough, even if my previous point can be dismissed as a small flaw. Finally, I agree with SwordNimi. This isn't a guide, it's a theory. You should label it as such, and not be misleading with your titles. -
Best Cosmere Character Tournament!
Gderu replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Like, Kelsier is a nice character, he has a nice story in TFE and then secret history was also interesting, but Marasi is just so much more interesting. She has this amazing contrast between the lady and the fighter, and I really want to see more about her research into Trell. Sorry Kelsier, I gotta go with Mara here. -
We don't currently know much about the Ryshadium, Brandon has said he'll get more into them later.

I got edgedancer, which I did not expect. There were a lot of questions about feelings and such, and how important they are. I think that your program interpreted my answers as me being an edgedancer because of that. Also, if you are learning Python right now, maybe as a second project try to make this with some GUI. I like the pygame library, it's quite simple and you can make some pretty fun things in it.

I also felt this. I wonder if rereading the released parts before reading the unreleased parts would make it better.

Best Cosmere Character Tournament!
Gderu replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I know! Marasi is just such a great character. Shallan is good too, but Marasi is better. -
That's because cents are worth too little. If each cent was worth a hundred times its price, and the value of the metal increased a hundredfold as well, it might suddenly be worth it to do so. Another factor is that when the US wants to cause inflation, it will print out paper bills, and it definitley won't start generating more pennies. They are just worth too little to have an impact.
