  1. Awesome! I was thinking its been stuck at 80% for what seems like forever (in reality probably a couple of weeks) Its amazing how much work he has gotten done on tour. Not to bad mouth other authors, but one comes to mind that says he can only write his books in a specific room on a 1980's computer using an a ancient writing program. So yeah excited about the update!
  2. Slightly off topic, but Brandon should finish the first draft in the next month or so and giving it out to, I believe the term is, alpha readers. Do these people frequent the forums and offer reactions to the book? No spoilers, obviously, but I would be interested what they think of it before I read it for myself. Or is there some sort of ban on them doing this?
  3. Sazed searching through all of the religions for truth reminds me of Stare at the Sun by Thrice. Kalidan when he was mopey (understandably so) in Way of Kings reminds me of My December by lincoln park. The battle at the end of words of radiance when they start the charge reminds me of Through the fire and the flames by Dragon force
  4. I really enjoyed Ken Liu's (translator) Dandelion Dynasty series beginning with Grace of Kings.
  5. I've always wanted to read LE Modesitt. Is The Recluse Saga the best place to start?
  6. Do you remember where you heard that? WoB?
  7. The Bone graphic novels by Jeff Smith. There are 7 of them, but now published as a omnibus. The omnibus is massive, but mostly pictures. These books are great, imagine calvin and hobbes crossed with lord of the rings. Delightful for children and adults. As someone above mentioned Steelheart would be a good pick also.
  8. Ha well it was just a example. I guess I'm saying its possible to see elements of other authors in a new book. Comparing authors means different things to different people: it could include all the examples I gave, one example, or something entirely different.
  9. In my opinion a book can be compared to Sanderson and Rothfuss if it has a inventive magic system (Sanderson) and is a coming of age story about a boy learning magic, written at a leisurely/meandering/slow pace and involves stories in the story that forshadows events (rothfuss)
  10. I know this is kind of a dumb question, but I have only listened to SA and was lookingat Brandon's Fall sale and didn't know what the symbol below was. It just says SA symbol. Is it used in the books or just by publishers to represent the franchise? Are the five swords supposed to represent anything in particular?
  11. The Face-fakers game by Birch. Its been getting comparisons to Lynch, Rothfuss and Sanderson. I'm about 150 pgs in and can see a lot of Scott Lynch, a little of Rothfuss, but not really any Sanderson. Excellent book thus far,
  12. I was just thinking about how 2016 has been a great year for Sanderson fans and I don't think he will ever be able to match 5 books published in a year. 1. Bands of Morning 2. Calamity 3. Alcatraz 5 4. White Sand 5. Arcanum Unbounded Most fans of authors are lucky to get one book a year Maybe in wordcount 2017 could be a big year. Its my understanding SA 3 will be the longest one yet.
  13. Thanks for the clarification
  14. Sounds good. Quick question though: I'm still new and was wondering how long a book needs to be out to discuss spoilers without adding a tag on it? I noticed Bands of Morning still has a spoiler board and its been out almost a year.
  15. Is all of this WoB? I didn't know this much information was out there.
  16. All of this (or at least most of this) will be answered on Nov. 22 with the publication of Arcanum Unbounded.
  17. Cool. Thanks!
  18. It has only been within the last 6 months that I've really paid attention to his writing methods. Do you know if he usually works on other peojects in between drafts of stormlight? I couldn't find anything about that in the last State of Sanderson.
  19. Warbreaker is the only Sanderson book where I tried starting it twice without finishing it. On my third try I ended up really enjoying it; Lightsong the bold is one of my favorite Sanderson characters!
  20. To reunite that shattered god would be my guess. I only know about the cosmere, shards etc in the broadest of senses so I'm not the best person to ask
  21. Couldn't Brandon work on this in between drafts on SA 3? These are shorter, easier books perhaps 2017 is still possible? He wrote Shadows of self and Bands of Morning swiftly last year...
  22. Castle meets your criteria. A fun show. Also Elementary is very good.
  23. The Burning Isle by will panzo. A just released book by a new author. I've been looking forward to this one since they had a preview on the Barnes and Noble sci fi fantasy page several months ago. I'm liking it so far.
  24. Hey I just met you! And this is crazy! So here's my spanreed! So call me maybe!
  25. Favorite opening line to a book? Mine is a toss up between two: 1. It was the day my grandmother exploded. 2. Nyx sold her womb somewhere between Punjai and Faleen, on the edge of the desert.
