Mid-Range Game 20: With Ruin Beside Us

I wouldn't put it past him. Maybe we can only win by not lynching anyone??? If nobody else votes, I'll retract mine in a day.- 360 replies

Mid-Range Game 20: With Ruin Beside Us
Ecthelion III replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gibbs was, to put it simply, unlucky. He was unlucky that the village he was in seemed to be plagued with a Ruinous infestation of Spiked. He was unlucky that corpses were dropping all around him, none of them with the telltale spikes of the enemy. He was unlucky that he had been attacked in the middle of the night--not this night, but a one previous. He was done with being unlucky. He shouldered his metal briefcase and went to check the timetables to see when he could get a carriage to leave the village. Instead he found a ripped-up mess of paper and a body at the carriage station. That was definitely unlucky. - Gibbs and I are still suspicious of Stick. Perhaps it has something to do with the way Ruin's spikes look like sticks, or perhaps it's the fact that he never, ever trusts anyone who says in thread "wonder why the elims would..." but something about Stick definitely seems off to him and me.- 360 replies

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Ecthelion III replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
With that I leave you. Farewell, friend, and may the way be clearer for you than it has for me. -Letter from the Fifth Nameless to the First Nameless - - - - - - - Fifth grabbed Shallan's hand and pulled her off to the side; a small group of soldiers--presumably the Guard--followed. With the Voidbringer Shardbearer distracted by Ranatar and the other Initiates, the breakaway group managed to slip away and begin making their way around the rock formation. This wasn't to say that they were met with no resistance. The Voidbringers were fighting harder than ever at the base of the rock. Though their formation had been breached, they still organized themselves into lethal pairs. Nonetheless, Fifth's group continued around. When they had gone a moderate distance around the base of Rysharock (though it seemed like much more), Fifth found himself standing in the center of a circle of the guardsmen. He turned to the rock and began to use his claw swords to climb it. The soldiers prevented the Voidbringers from getting too close, although he personally doubted they would hold for much longer. Not that it would matter if they didn't get Kaladin out quickly. Or if the rock collapsed. Fifth felt the entire formation shudder slightly each time the claw swords dug into it, and the further he got up, the less stable it seemed. He reached into his coin bag for a long pike which Shallan could use to climb up, and as he did, he heard a scream coming from the direction of the main battle. It sounded like Ranatar! From his vantage point, he caught a glimpse of the commander Voidbringer, Shardblade held aloft, about to deliver the killing blow. And, high up on the rock, there was nothing Fifth could do but watch. - - - - - - - I'm in the same position as Lopen. My gut and PM tells me Alvron is village, and I can definitely see the whole situation as the eliminators trying to frame him with the vote manipulation. While I'm not super suspicious of Arinian, I trust him less than Alvron. -

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Ecthelion III replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Speaking of which, in case I die, I Connected my ring to the bedknob in my room. You should be able to locate it from there. I'm not suspicious of Arinian at this point. I propose we take a look at the cycle when Jondesu saved Alvron, as this seems to be a point of interest and one of the few pieces of information we actually have in this game. Looking back at Jondesu's long post explaining the actions of why the Willshaper is probably village, I came to a different conclusion--that the Willshaper is likely an eliminator. See, the fact that the Willshaper used his/her action to put a vote on the pardon of Drake is in no way indicative of his/her alignment. The pardon would not have been successful anyway, so the Willshaper likely did it just to gain favor with the majority. That just leaves us with his switch of the vote to jail Drake and save Alvron. What a convenient excuse (if the Willshaper turned out to be Unjust) to just say that the vote swap was entirely to jail Drake and not at all to save Alvron. Whatever the meaning, I believe that finding the identity of the Willshaper will be critical in finding the Unjust. -

I'm still Stickspicious. You've been more active than usual, and I have no idea what part of being a Thug makes someone more likely to be an eliminator.- 360 replies

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Ecthelion III replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Right, votes. I'm going to vote to execute Drake not only for the reasons I did last cycle, but also because now he has no spren and we want information. Couldn't Alvron himself be the Willshaper and he was bluffing about escaping lynches? - As Arinian said, I have been slacking in my votes for the interrogation. At the moment I'm the most suspicious of Alvron and Jondesu, but I want to look into it more before I place my vote. -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Ecthelion III replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I traveled there myself and affirmed that it is the truth—Third has indeed been killed and the Spiked have taken over. The good news is that I was able to recover his ring, which is enclosed in the envelope along with the letter. "I need you all, with the help of the Squires and my son, to break through the Voidbringers and protect Shallan as she extracts your Captain to safety....Do you understand your orders?” "Understood, Brightlord Dalinar," Fifth said. So, another escort mission, he thought blithely. Except this time, there's a horde of Voidbringers between here and our target. Just what I've come to expect from these 'missions'. He reached into his bag of weapon coins. There were only nine now--as he had previously ascertained, the dagger was missing. He knew that finding the lost coin was essential to the mission, but this was not the time. This was a battle. Instead, he procured a coin which he threw out in front of him and transformed into a pair of hook swords. With one in each hand, he charged into the army of Voidbringers, Bridge One beside him. -

I agree with Jondesu that the Elsecaller is likely an Unjust. However, I doubt this means Quiver is Unjust, as if their goal was to get Joe into jail to kill him, they would have of course chosen him and not Drake so Drake's bond would be broken. -

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Ecthelion III replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Fifth was not able to see connected events, just a series of ephemeral images. One was him sheltering in a hole in the rock, and another was him hanging from the edge of the plateau, the rock formation, or the hole he had carved, with the Voidbringers closing in. There's lots of room for interpretation; I wasn't planning anything specific after this point. - Seriously, let's hear something from Bridges Two and Three. What are you guys up to? -

I doubt Seonid is an eliminator simply because if he was, it would be stupid of him to claim the Spear in thread after Daniyah's alignment reveal. I currently have a bad read on Stick mostly due to filler posting and just my gut. I don't have too much time to go back all the way through the thread, but iirc, Elenion was suspicious of Stick and then got lynched soon after (though I think I contributed to that lynch). Roleclaiming won't improve my situation any, I don't think, since I've already lost my Thug Life. (Can we make that an SE term?) I guess I could use in my defense all the things that Bugsy has said so far. I haven't been paying too much attention to this game strategically due to LG30- 360 replies

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Ecthelion III replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Regrettably, I recently received word from the village of Tyrian Falls that the Third of us has fallen while investigating the Spiked. Fifth quickly received a knife from Ranatar, and he got to work chipping away at the stone around the crack left by Kaladin's Shardblade. It was an arduous process. Why did Kaladin have to leave something behind on stone, of all places, Fifth thought, irritated. All of the runes are going to take ages to carve. He was soon passed a chisel by somebody, which he gladly exchanged the knife for. It made the work somewhat quicker, especially because he was rather used to working with a chisel. Unfortunately. About fifteen minutes had passed before Fifth had finally completed his work. A circle of runes surrounded the center of the crack, encircling it in a faintly glowing circle. The light increased in intensity until brilliant rays of light shot out from the stone. The Fifth Nameless stretched out his open palm and placed it into the center of the circle. The light coursed up his arm and transformed his features, for a brief second, into those of the man he called Stormblessed. The Connection had been forged. - The world flashed. He stood before a surgeon's table, an aging man pleading to him. He held the body of a child in his arms. He sprinted, bridge overhead, as arrows dropped body after body around him. He fell, a girl's voice screaming in his head. He stood proudly before the brightlords, shouting something in a voice not his own. The world grew brighter. He fought, flying through the air with a silver shield, against hordes of Voidbringers. He fought for the sake of his bridge crew, of the Initiates. He fought, he defended, he protected. And he ran. The world cried. Water rushed through the chasms, pitching him forth and back. The skies beckoned to him, but he would not rise. He beckoned to the light, but none answered. He clung desperately to a ledge as bodies floated beneath him. He looked up, a horse-shaped stone monolith towering above him. He carved his way into the stone as the horse watched from on high. He fell in a heap in the hole he had created. Then there was darkness, and a final vision of himself, clinging to the edge of a plateau, as the sounds of chanting and crackling lightning grew closer and closer. Then nothing. - Fifth's hand fell away from the stone circle, which was no longer blazing with light. "I know where to go," he said wearily, "beneath the plateau with the horse-shaped rock formation." He paused for a moment, thinking of the last scene of his vision. "And you're not going to like this." -

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Ecthelion III replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Greetings! I trust you are well. I write to you with good news and bad news. I’ll start with the bad news, as you always have liked me to. (Since Araon hasn't been on yet, I'll assume my little bribe was successful and I have made it to Bridge One along with Jonly, Kintas, Ranatar, Sareth, and Rea.) Bridge One began to move, and slowly the bridge formed. Fifth was not the only one who was confused. Despite this, the bridge came together and the army crossed. Then the bridge had to be taken up again and moved to the next chasm.... He fell into the rhythm of marching, lowering, shoving the bridge across, then picking it up and repeating, with the extra steps used for Dalinar's bridges, but unlike some others, he knew he didn't have to worry about becoming worn out. His bag of focus coins had served that purpose. He had played terribly when gambling yesterday, true, but that was all part of his plan. The coins, cleverly disguised as spheres, had found their way into the pockets of more than a few of the Initiates, where they could now serve as Investiture Links, providing Fifth with substantial amounts of Stormlight--more than enough for this menial physical labor. The group paused for a moment as one of Dalinar's scouts sent a party down a rope ladder to investigate the chasm floor. The party returned with little news: bodies from the flood, but no sign of Kaladin. With a sigh, Fifth continued. He wasn't tired per se, but there were much better things he could be doing than this aimless wandering. As the day wore on, Fifth became more and more discouraged. If only someone could find a breakthrough-- "“I’ve found a shard-blade cut!" Ranatar cried. "It looks recent!" Laughing at this turn of fortune, Fifth ran over to the crack, which ran completely straight, starting about two meters to his left and running another three meters to his right, where it ended at an indentation in the wall. This must have been left behind by Captain Kaladin in the battle with the Voidbringers, he thought. Are there other marks we could follow? Could we use them as guideposts, or a compass... ...this must have been left behind by Captain Kaladin in the battle... ...left behind by Captain Kaladin... ...left behind... A memory of the voice, PRIME's voice, came back to him. "USING THE FOCUS OF SOMETHING YOUR TARGET HAS LEFT BEHIND, YOU CAN ESTABLISH A MEMORY LINK, WHICH GRANTS ACCESS TO THE MEMORIES OF THE CONNECTED INDIVIDUAL." ...THE FOCUS OF SOMETHING YOUR TARGET HAS LEFT BEHIND... That's it! Kaladin and his spren may have just left us the greatest clue as to their whereabouts! Provided, at least, that the Memory Link shows us what it needs to. Those links have never been reliable. But storm it, it's worth a shot. "Does anyone have a tool that can make marks on stone?" Fifth called. "A chisel, perhaps?" One of his bridgemates broke out into laughter. "You think that crazy sorcery of yours is going to find Kaladin for us? Fat chance!" Fifth shot that person a cool half-smile. "We'll see who's laughing after I point out the exact plateau where he fled after the storm...!" -

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Ecthelion III replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I conclude this message with these instructions: should any of you fall, it is imperative that their ring finds their way back to me or the First Nameless. Use this envelope, third rotation. -First Instructions from PRIME - Bridge Group One: Jonly, Araon, Kintas, Ranatar, Sareth, Rea Bridge Group Two: Fifth Nameless, Arionium, Hess, Leif, Hithon, Balthazar Bridge Group Three: Shinon, Lyna, Naihar, Petrik, Hashiv, and Tintalle. [based on player list] - Fifth had a problem. Namely, he was assigned to carry the wrong bridge. This should be a problem easily fixed. When the supervisors weren't looking, Fifth offered a coin to Araon @Assassin in Burgundy asking to switch places. - I don't see any reason to not execute Drake. Information, information, information!
