Chinese words have at least four pronounciations, each with different meanings. Tīan= sky Tían= sweet, alternately a paddy field Tîan= a spot Tìan= electricity?

White Sand Volume 1 Reactions (Unpublished Version Spoilers)
Doc12 replied to WeiryWriter's topic in White Sand
What I loved about the novel were Kenton and khriss' interactions. I hated how so much of it was cut, and their banter isn't even that charged or funny anymore -
I'm sorry, what quote? Quote from where?
-
Personally I think two steps from hell goes perfectly with the book.

i realize that that is very bad, feel free to add more ideas or edit it or submit your own versions as you will!

Trailer for the Way of Kings. Wit's voice: When you beat an iron sword relentlessly, it hardens. When you leave it alone, it rusts away. Let me tell you a story. =o=o=o=o=o The party, camera panning around the revellers. We see spren floating around, we see Jasnah looking disapproving and Dalinar dead drunk, but only briefly. We see a flash of White as the Assassin stalks down a corridor. Two guards notice him and charge. The Assassin bursts into light. Cut to Szeth by the dead body of the King, kneeling. "I'm sorry." =o=o=o=o=o= "We came here for Vengeance, but all I see if frivolity and competition." Dalinar from behind, looking over the Shattered Plains and the arrayed warcamps.Adolin averts his eyes. Sadeas snorts. "Why can't you just relax? Why can't you be just like everyone else?" "I cannot be like everyone else." Sadeas leaves, laughing. "That honor of yours is going to get you killed some day." =o=o=o=o=o=o=o Voiceover: There are two kinds of people in this world, son. Those who save lives, and those who take lives. A young Kal, working in the surgery with his father: "What about those who kill to protect?" A battlefield on a rocky landscape, from the eyes of Cenn. Kaladin leading them into battle. The Shardbearer. White flash, cut to Kaladin shivering in a cage. Kaladin looks up to see Syl floating over, a tiny translucent girl. Her light shines on his face. Her voice: Why do men cry? =o=o=o=o=o=o=o Shallan's voice: “Expectation wasn't just about what people expected of you. It was about what you expected of yourself.” Shallan clutching a sketchbook, following Jasnah. Her eyes are fixed on the Soulcaster. She is smiling, cut to her in her room alone scheming and drawing plans. A cryptic voice: Let go of your lies. (fade to black) (pause) (bass drop) Szeth lashing himself to the ceiling, running towards two Shardbearers. His Blade appears in his hands. Dalinar sitting alone in a tent, screaming and writhing. Kaladin on a bridge run, screaming as blood trickles down his shoulders and arrows kill those around him Shallan in a room in a pool of blood. (fade to black) (pause) Words against A black screen as music builds to a crescendo. Speak again the Ancient oaths. "Life before Death." Lightning illuminates Kaladin before the Honor Chasm, tears mingling with rain. "Strength before Weakness." Dalinar charging at the Chasmfiend in full Shardplate to protect Elhokar "Journey before Destination." Shallan turning from a ship and running back to Khabaranth. (pause) "The Knights Radiant shall rise again." Music climaxes A shot of Szeth running among people, lashing them left and right. A shot of Shallan entering Shadesmar. A shot of Dalinar and Adolin surrounded on the Tower, shouting their final battlecries. A shot of Kaladin's boots thumping on the bridge, clearing the chasm onto the awaiting Parshendi. Syl screaming "Speak the Words!" THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE: THE WAY OF KINGS =o=o=o=o=o=o Wit's voice, chattily: “Can you feel it? Something just changed. I believe that’s the sound the world makes when it pisses itself.”

A trailer for Words of Radiance had better end with this line is all I'm saying : Honor is Dead. But I'll see what I can do.

Hey I'm sorry, but that thread requires a password? How do I get in? I have read the prose version.

Hey guys, this is NOT a thread about Stormlight Movie casting, I know that's been done. What I really want to see discussed is what a theoretical Stormlight movie poster or trailer would look like, you know, those perfect scenes from the books that frames the entire movie/tv show/whatever. Imagine taglines and scenes for trailers and even trailer music. Stormlight is a fantastically visual world, with so many beautiful descriptions, cool fight scenes and undeniably flashy magic, with light streaming everywhere. One of my favorite ideas (I stole this from Reddit) is a poster for the Way of Kings where Kaladin leaps across the chasm, where we only see his back, his spear upraised, the bridge behind him and the Parshendi before him, Light twinkling in their gemstones. In the foreground we see Bridge Four still pushing teh bridge. The tagline would be a simple 'Speak the Words' What do you guys think? Go crazy!

hey, I just got here too. Nice to meet ya.

Hey guys, Has this been done before? If it has, I can't find the forum. Anyway, I've been listening to a lot of two steps from hell lately, and one song popped up that I immediately thought "Shallan". The song is Illusions, and storms does it fit her. To me, at least. Her lies and illusions, and how she has to tear them down, and it also fits her powers as a Lightweaver. As the music intensifies, you can hear that anguish and yet so much wonder and beauty. I just see Shallan in my head casting illusions, revisiting her mother's death, speaking truths and facing herself. That's some powerful music there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1qzm3UUTrg So anyway I wanted to share this, and ask you guys what other songs have you found that just fit a character from Roshar?

Excellent point. Perhaps the Iron Legion protocol would be more suited, though, as they're explicitly just used as mooks in Age of Ultron. Generic iron soldiers intended to slow the enemy and distract them enough for Stark to swoop in. At best they'll hopelessly confuse Vin as there'll be blue lines swirling everywhere- the equivalent of flares for Mistborn - and she'd have to waste time and metal taking them down, long enough for Stark to creep up in his aluminium armor and take her down.
-
I'm sorry I didn't clarify the participants clearly, as many people have been debating over this. When I say Stark, I imagine MCU Stark whose powers remain pretty much consistent over the movies, with upgrades, of course, but nothing unreasonable. That means Extremis and the Bleeding Edge armor are kinda discounted. However, I was thinking of discussing, exactly what modifications would Stark need to counter a Mistborn in round 2 and 3? Pathfinder has given some excellent suggestions on Aluminium armor. What do you think Stark would need to tailor his suit to counter both allomancy and hemalurgy? Essentially I'm thinking of creating an entirely new suit of armor to counter the Mistborn, and hoping to discuss what the new armor should include. When I say Vin, I mean her as a normal mistborn pre-ascension, only with access to all the Era 2 metals and medallions in later battles. Her limits are pretty much fixed here, as I assume everyone reading this has a fair knowledge of the different metals and feruchemical medallions. So no ascended Vin here. Anything else I missed, please don't hesitate to ask. Or perhaps we could set the conditions together?
-
I know right? I was like how come no one had posted on this yet? However, I would remind you that Vin is really resourceful too, like the way she attacked the Inquisitors in book 1. Tony may come uber-prepared, and might very well win, but Vin would definetely give him the fight of his life. Think Hulkbuster vs Hulk. No matter how prepared Tony was for Hulk, he still had a really hard time beating that raw strength. Vin has been shown several times using her powers in unconventional ways, so while, tony might still win, he definetely won't be as OP as it seems. HAHA. I snickered at that Iron man -Iron maiden pun. Yeah, I do agree with you on the use of medallions now, you've really thought this out really well, and the battle you're describing was the kind of battle I hoped for when I imagined them duelling and posting this.
-
Sorry, I should have been clearer with the conditions. When I say ie: hulkbuster, aluminium armor, I wasn't actually advocating those armors, more like throwing out random suits that could work. The hulkbuster would actually be horrible against Mistborn, especially one burning Pewter, as the armor is extremely slow and bulky. The only advantage the Hulkbuster would have is that it'll be far too heavy to be pushed around anymore. Still, Vin vs Koloss already shows how that battle would go. The usage of medallions as feruchemical storage for Vin is something I didn't think of, and could potentially very well overpower Vin, haha. What with storing luck, speed of thought and all the other powers that come with feruchemy, she would wipe the floor with Stark no matter what he brought to the table. I do however see an advantage for Stark if he does use aluminium or carbon fiber armor in round two. Sure, his armor is a lot weaker, and can't tank more than maybe two pewter-enhanced hits, but coins should bounce off with nothing more than a dent. And with nothing for Vin to grab hold of, she loses a very large advantage. All he needs is one repulsor blast to take down Vin. All Stark has to do is stay out of Vin's immediate reach and avoid close quarters combat at all costs and he might win.
-
As for setting, i also picture a roofless arena, with metal for vin to toss about, and the hulkbuster drvice from avengers 2 which give extra parts when the suit is damaged. The repairs are limited, of course, and Vins metal reserves aren't infinite. It might turn out to be a fight of who can last longest after all.
-
My mistake guys, I should've put in conditions, like many of you stated. Right, let's say w have three rounds. Round 1: standard armor. Each side has little knowledge of the extent to each other's powers.this rounds should be relatively short as bot sides have the advantage of surprise Round 2: knowing the powers of each side, each side prepares. IE:aluminium suit, hulk buster. Basically this duel will be them seeing how well their new strategies work and adapting better. Round 3: all out battle with even more in depth knowledge of the others strengths and weaknesses. Standard suit for Tony in the first round, probably the modular one in the MCU. Vin has access to all metals so far. Do we give her atium tho? Perhaps not in the first round. They both can go absolute OP in round 3 They won't be trying to kill each other, So try to limit to non lethal attacks. IE: stun blasts, gas, concussion grenades for Stark, no crushing for Vin.

Hey guys, I don't know if this has been asked or discussed before in this site, I ran a quick search and came up with nothing so far. I'm just wondering, in a battle between a mistborn and a man literally encased in iron, how would the battle come out? Now I know there's already a debate in Marvel about Magneto and Iron Man, but a Mistborn has so many other abilities in his or her arsenal, and I'd like to see how you guys think they could be used in a battle. Also, would Stark be able to out think a Mistborn and come out on top? I think this could be a really interesting topic to just theorize over. Knock yourselves out!
