[OB] At what point did you spot Vivenna?
Knight Oblivion replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Stormlight Archive
I didn't know about the WOB or the spoiler before reading Oathbringer. The name, however, tipped me off to Azure being a Nalthian. The reveal of her sex and the sword were what made me realize she was Vivenna. Everything else just kept reaffirming that conclusion.- 40 replies

[OB] Aluminum Economics and Roshar
Knight Oblivion replied to LordMistbornII's topic in Stormlight Archive
This brings one question to mind.. how pure is soulcast aluminum? If it's incredibly pure then, yeah, it will be soft. But commercial aluminum is generally, at most, 99.6% pure and fairly hard.- 39 replies

theory [OB] Unsurprisingly, Feather wants to talk Renarin
Knight Oblivion replied to FeatherWriter's topic in Stormlight Archive
I hope Glys being corrupted means that Renarin's future sight is voidbinding. Since he clearly also uses at least one surge (I agree with the value examples being of Illumination. I see no reason why it can't function differently for Truthwatchers, corrupted spren or not), it would mean he uses both. Renarin being a dualbinder would be amazing! And here I was thinking Kaladin could be one by bonding a voidspren. Much has changed in the last few weeks.- 86 replies

The thing that interests me about the physics in the Cosmere is the entropy and exergy of investiture. I got the impression that used Atium would eventually find its way back to Ruin's personal well of investiture but would take time. This implies that there's a natural process that somehow creates exergy and thus reverses entropy... which would require some kind of work. Maybe that fourth law of thermodynamics regarding Adonalsium has something to do with that.

It would be interesting to see if surgebinding and voidbinding are truly mutually exclusive. Now I want to see Kaladin become a dualbinder...

[OB] Concerning Urithiru and Oathgates
Knight Oblivion replied to She Who Cannot Be Named's topic in Stormlight Archive
I was of the impression that Urithiru was at such a high elevation that it was above the storms. This isn't a horrible idea though, just needs some tweaking. Maybe the baskets/cages I vaguely remember reading about conducted stormlight to the structure. -
[OB] Where is the other half of Urithiru?
Knight Oblivion replied to Skyline's topic in Stormlight Archive
Radial symmetry? Not necessarily. Urithiru most likely wouldn't be designed with it in mind. There's most likely some symmetry but that doesn't mean that other symbolic details can't supercede a desire for radial symmetry. -
[OB] Where is the other half of Urithiru?
Knight Oblivion replied to Skyline's topic in Stormlight Archive
Wouldn't Urithiru still be symmetrical but along a perpendicular axis to the sheer edge? -
[OB] Speculation on Queen Aesudan?

[OB] The Oathgate Deadzone, and Imminent Horneater Genocide
Knight Oblivion replied to Yezrien's topic in Stormlight Archive
While I like and agree that this theory could be, at least, partially correct, I don't like the boundaries of this "Oathgate Deadzone." It appears that the borders of it closest to Vedenar and Kholinar are too close to them. Basically, it looks like the boundaries are inconsistently applied. As such, I think that the Deadzone borders should be shifted northward and westward and cover much of the Reshi Isles. Well, that would be assuming that the apparent protection radius is in the middle/larger range. Assuming that the distance from Kholinar and Vedenar is how much land the Radiants can protect from an Oathgate, then the OD (I like the acronym) would be expanded to include various "No-man" lands between the various Oathgates.- 42 replies

[OB] Voidbringers knowledge and non-magical capabilities
Knight Oblivion replied to Hyarmenatan's topic in Stormlight Archive
Makes sense. Now that the Parshmen are no longer in slaveform, they'd most likely would be able to put their experiences to use. -
I would probably feel better about the chapter's ending if I had the book in front of me. As it is, the cliffhanger with a week's wait leaves me feeling not wholly satisfied. Like having a great meal that wasn't as filling as it could have been.

Shove them into an oven long enough, keep them under water to drown out the healing, kick them into a vat of molten metal like in Terminator 2, industrial strength wood chipper, gas chambers, some kind of horrific disease, and the list can go on.

It could. Then again, it could be a still functioning Steel Inquisitor with a load of spikes already...

Your Least Favorite Cosmere Story And Why
Knight Oblivion replied to Stonesinew134's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I agree with this. The Well of Ascension may have had pacing issues and White Sands Vol. 1 may have messed up both visually and dialogue-wise (seriously, all the characters look pissed all the time, Cynder and Acron had a bit of dialogue mix up, and Kenton's defense at the Hall of Justice was a mess/travesty especially after a reread and going through the source prose) but Shadows for Silence was just dull... It was like we were reading the end of an era for a potentially interesting character without much background. I can forgive the faults of the first two books since they're interesting but I cannot forgive dullness. -
The main advantage that Odium/Rayse would have against Harmony/Sazed would be pure experience with the power. Sazed is like a really buff guy in a gym that really doesn't know how to fight. He's got a bunch of strength but doesn't know how to really apply it. Meanwhile, Rayse is lean, fit, and has several fights/kills under his belt. He's going to know how to prepare for and counter Sazed. Saying that, Sazed could do something unexpected, get a good idea, or get lucky. Vin did so to Ati when she kamikazed him. As for a hypothetical meaner Ati, it's possible he could have gone on a splintering spree after a while. Depends on how much power he invested beforehand though.

Watch the Sci-fi Mistborn trilogy have an ensemble array of viewpoint characters besides Hoid from different shardworlds.
-
I think you're over complicating this. There's not much contradiction considering that there are exceptions to those who can see through the mists or encounter a mistborn. Mistcloaks obscure the wearer for most people but aren't helpful if the mistborn is seen by somebody using Allomantic tin or in close vicinity. In the case of encountering a fellow mistborn who can pierce the mists with tin, it lets them know that individual is equally powered and probably comparably skilled. For the city guards that run into a mistborn while patrolling the night, it lets them visually realize that they should just ignore the presumed noble because it's easier that way.

On the concept of "Self splintering"
Knight Oblivion replied to Calderis's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Besides misremembering WoB, could the idea come from Secret History and maybe some WoB? Something about Preservation being prevented from splintering but that Ruin doesn't really know how to actively splinter but can kill?- 16 replies

I would say that shardblades and honorblades would likely work. Meanwhile, Nightblood would definitely work. So, all three versions of the weapon could do the trick.

The mechanics of AonDor and Elantris
Knight Oblivion replied to Extesian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well, this sounds plausible. Definitely puts this portion of my confusion regarding AonDor at ease. Now if only I can figure out the chasm line... -
Since the conflict is with a "seasoned" Radiant, I see no reason to not assume a greatly skilled mistborn for the other combatant. The potential to be able to seek a surgebinder such as a Radiant of a utility order doesn't seem out of the question. Anyways, I'd say that a mistborn has a greater access to investiture needed to use their skills in more environments/locals than a Radiant would. This would mean that a mistborn could stall them out and strike the Radiant through the faceplate with a coin, arrowhead, or spear point from a distance. The relative inaccessibility of stormlight compared to the omnipresent power of Preservation (vials of metal are easy to stock up on for use and are needed in lower quantities) means that healing is less a factor. Basically, a mistborn has more powers and greater access to their powers. The deck is stacked against a Radiant.
