  1. Muscle growth is basically speeding up how fast your muscles grow. If you don't do anything, your muscles will probably shrink. If you're running, then your leg muscles will grow. Speed is running speed. Regrowth is how fast your cells repair your body. One percent is one percent of your normal trait, so you would have 101% of your normal trait if you boost for one percent. It does not compound.

  4. The powerset below Bacon is for an unfinished character I'm working on, not for him.
  5. Oh! So it's a real sea! That makes sense. Also, his name is unknown because the epics that hired him never bothered to learn his real name; Bacon seemed fine with them calling him that. And for the traveling thing, what about if the appearance of the Calamity star caused some conflict with the few polytheistic desert tribes that still remained? Also, thanks for pointing that out.
  6. Well I was originally intending for the character to only be able to gift the power and not use it, but I don't think that really is possible. And not gift elemental manipulation; I was thinking that the character could grant the ability to turn themselves into an "elemental", an avatar of themselves but larger and somehow incorporating the element into their system. And I don't really mean the four traditional fire water earth air elements, but I was thinking some slightly different ones. Not completely different, but just kind of different (storm, sea, soil, wood (and I didn't include fire not because it's just a chemical reaction, but because I don't like fire)). .
  7. Hello! I have come with an idea for a human! Could someone please review it and point out any faults so next time I can do a better job, or if this character is good (which seems a little unlikely) you can tell me and I might be able to use it? Name: Unknown, but people call him "bacon" because of the amount of fat in his body. Age: 25 Appearance: Short, rotund Middle Eastern male with a cheerful expression on his face almost all of the time Skills: Organizing papers Backstory and personality: Bacon was born in the Middle East, raised by two caring parents. They knew that their peaceful village in the desert wasn't going to survive the increasingly violent epic attacks on nearby villages, so they gathered all of their money and sent him on a plane to (Dalles, Astoria, Corvallis, Austrailia, Portland, Salem) when he was only a small child. Bacon is still grateful for their sacrifice, and chooses to obey their wishes and start a new life, putting a layer of blubber between him and his past. Bacon is now a happy person on the outside, but underneath, he is in turmoil, being involved in several different secret societies and being blackmailed into a couple of treasonous plots and conspiracies. Depending on whether or not said secret societies and conspiracies exist, Bacon can also be troubled by the thought of serving epics, who brutally murdered thousands of people in the Middle East, most likely including his parents. If you haven't guessed already, Bacon is an assistant to an epic. If you have any suggestions on which epic Bacon can work for, please let me know. If you have any suggestions on which thread Bacon can go to, also please let me know. And I have an epic too, or at least concepts of epic power portfolios that don't have a personality yet. Primary He starts out with some very minor passive traits. He can boost these passive traits a significant amount for any amount of time as powerful as he likes it. However, the amount he boosts a trait is directly proportional to the amount of food he has to eat to sustain himself. Some traits cost more than others to boost. Muscle Growth - 50 cal per percent Speed - 45 cal per percent (Regrowth) - 50 cal per percent Reflexes - 35 cal per percent Aglilty - 40 cal per percent Senses - 30 cal per percent Also, I saw some post that mentioned a sea in Oregon, here, I believe. Is that a literal sea, or just a large lake? Thanks
  8. Hello! Welcome to the Shard! I regard my school's ending date to be the beginning of summer, June second, so since then I have read at least four books. Also, have a cookie!
  9. Answering your "how do we think Brandon will introduce them to each other" question... Well I think that the first people to enter the space age would be the Fjordell because: 1. Elantris was set hundreds of years before The Final Empire, so they have a head start on most of the other peoples. 2. They don't have some factor that slows down their progress. Both Arelon and Roshar have magic users to provide things for them. Roshar is also war-torn. Civilizations who are spending all of their resources to gain more equipment for their troops usually don't have the time and resources to progress in technology. The citizens of the Elendel Basin have crops and soil that are unnaturally fertile. Even Sazed says that they could have progressed much farther if their soil was normal. Minor shardworlds have other limiting factors, like the Shades on Threnody. The second people to enter the space age would be the Scadrians. They are unified, so they would not be hampered by any war. Their civilization is also super-huge. However, this doesn't matter, because the Radiants and Elantrians can both travel into the cognitive realm, so they can travel to other shardworlds. They would be the first people to interact with eachother. Then, the Nalthese will join the circle. There's only one known Nalthese worldhopper currently, so they will probably be next in line. Last will be Scadrial. Worldhopping in Scadrial will most likely only work with Atium, because Demoux is an atium burner. Technologically, the Selish probably already have space travel because there's at least eight hundred years between them and the Alloy of Law. They will share this technology with the other shardworlds. Regarding your main question (about combinations)... Well, there are most likely a number of ways nicrosilminds could interact with other investiture. But since we don't actually know anything about them, I can't say for certain what those could be.
  10. Okay. General Brandon Discussion would be the proper place to put them, right?
  11. There isn't a limit to how many threads one can make in a short period of time. Here are the rules. There's probably some unwritten rules, but you'll have to ask one of the more experienced members for them.
  12. Welcome to the Shard! I'm sure you'll find that the Shard is a very friendly corner of the internet. If you have any questions or you're worried about doing something wrong feel free to ask me or any other Shard member. Also, have a cookie. They're really good.
  13. So...how do we start? And do we give our actions in PMs, or in the thread?
  14. In this thread?
  15. You mean free-form, right? I'm just going to assume that you mean free-form, because that's what most of the RPs here are. I'm also going to assume you already know this stuff: and if you don't, now you do. So to begin, what you want to do first is to make an introduction post in the discussion thread, introducing your character to the other players. Then, you write an introductory post in the main thread, to shove your character where you want him/her to be able to start RPing. This post will usually include some background on your character and also provide some action to create a situation for your character to enter the plot. From there you can just start to RP and interact with other players. If you want your player to interact with other players in the same post, you should PM them or send them a link to a doc so you can collaborate on how your character can interact. This will make it so that you don't control other people's characters like NPCs or something. I'm not really a very experienced player, having only participated in two RPs so far, so a more experienced player could probably give more information on how RPs work.
  16. Okay, thanks.
  17. Gifters can use their own powers, right?
  18. I see.
  19. Sorry for not being clear. Elemental gifting is gifting elemental powers. I'll answer your other question below. Again, sorry for not being clear. What I think of as metabolism boosting is being able to control the rate someone processes food, essentially making someone stronger and having more energy, but requiring more food to sustain them.
  20. waaiit, Jezrien is drunk and Kalak is paranoiac? I haven't read WoK for a long time, so could you remind me where it says that?
  21. Ecthelion already covered all of the abbreviations that you mentioned except for PAFO. PAFO means play and find out. This is used in Sanderson Elimination Games when people ask questions that the GM (Game Master) doesn't want to answer. The GM just says PAFO, which implies that the question will be answered later in the game. This also is a reference to RAFO, which is read and find out. This term originates when Brandon Sanderson started answering questions that would be answered in later books with RAFO and giving them a card. I have never heard of TWK before.
  22. Hello! So I have a few questions on epic powers. Do you have limits on: Invisibility Shapeshifting Prime invincibilities Instakill Teleportation And have people already taken epics with: Metabolism Boosting Elemental Gifting A very loud voice Thanks
  23. Welcome! Have a cookie! Also, what abbreviations do you mean?
