"We're aware," Mari coldly replied. She kept looking Forr in the eyes, waiting until she'd say something else, no emotion visible on her face.
-
Mari nodded. "We won't hurt you as long as you cooperate with us, Forr," she said. "Of course, if you don't..." She looked at Forr, trying to figure out what to say next. It was clear that she was scared, but that could easily be explained by what happened before. Of course, Mike had noted that she seemed suspicious before all that happened. She wished she had a chance to ask Mike what had tipped him off, but that wouldn't be possible given the current situation. In the end she decided to use that fear, and see if she could run a bluff. If it didn't work she'd simply have to improvise. "So, Forr," she said, her voice somewhat colder. "Let's start out by having you tell us what you know about what happened here, shall we?"

Karin walked down the crater and looked at the group that was already gathering down below. Her standard dress had been swapped out for more useful clothing. Instead she wore thick sleeveless coat, cargo pants and hiking shoes. With her she carried a backpack filled with medical equipment, chemicals and a basic chemistry set, everything carefully wrapped up to prevent it from accidentally getting damaged. Seeing Sarah she walked up to her, raising a hand in greeting. "Hey," she said enthusiastically. "I guess you got some adventuring gear ready as well?"
-
Mari looked at Mike, wondering why she had to do it. Then again, leaving it to the shapeshifter would probably end badly, and Mike didn't look as if he wanted to do it. She gave a quick nod to him, and then started studying the girl, trying to figure out how to approach this. After a few seconds she knelt down in front of her, looking her in the eyes. "So," she calmly said, "could you tell us your name? It will make the rest of this talk somewhat easier." @AonEne

"If you're asking it means it was too much." Mari said to Avalon, not even looking at him. Instead, she looked at girl, who had just fainted. She knelt down next to her, first feeling for a pulse. Finding one she looked at Mike. "What do we do with her?" She asked. "Do we leave her here or in some room?"
-
Mari looked at him for a bit. "I see," she finally said, releasing his fist. She turned around to the girl. "I suggest you come with us now, and not try anything... stupid," she calmly said.
-
Mari jumped forwards as well, storing all her mass as soon as her feet left the ground. She shot forwards, moving past Nila. Immediately she started tapping mass, suddenly coming to a halt. She spun around, catching Nila's fist. "Don't do anything hasty," she said in a cold tone. "Hurting her can wait until we're actually sure she won't cooperate."

Mari looked at Mike. "The fact that he's an outsider makes him suspicious," she said softly. "If he was invited we should be able to see who he was, and arrest him that way. We should also check who exactly invited him." She looked at the girl he indicated, trying to avoid showing she had noticed her. She wasn't sure what Mike had noticed, but if he said so she should probably trust his judgement. "Don't know," She softly answered. "I'll go get her, asking some questions can't hurt." She started turning around towards the girl. @AonEne

"Lots of darkness," Karin jokingly replied, "combined with a number of beautiful or impressive sights, and possibly some horryifing things that will make us wish we never signed up."
-
"I see," Mari replied. "Also, for your bullets, look in these holes in his skull, you'll probably find them there." She sighed. "So, what do we do? Do we go around asking people if they saw anything suspicious?"
-
Karin nodded. Meanwhile she checked the list, and found her name as well. "I guess I'm joining in too," she told the other two with a smile.
-
"Maybe we should check who ran away?" Mari asked.
-
Mari tilted her head. "Is there any specific reason to?" She asked. "It isn't as if we can't figure out what killed him just by looking at him. Someone hit him with something, probably that dart, and then someone else put those holes in him. I figure it was probably getting shot in the head that killed him, not any poisons."
-
"Mari," she answered with a quick nod. She knelt down next to the body, turning it so she could inspect it easier. "Huh," she said. "I don't remember these wounds from when he collapsed." She pointed at the wounds in his head and chest.

Mari listened to Zokora, and looked at the others next to her, wondering if they were feeling the same doubts as her. How where they to solve the murder of Mr. Itiah? They were assassins, not cops. In the end she just nodded at her and walked to the corpse to inspect it. "Any of you have an idea on where to start?" She asked.
-
Mari watched in shock as Mr. Itiah suddenly fell down, felt panic spread through the hall. She watched as one of the other speakers took charge. Seeing her gesture at her to come she walked over to her, trying to look calm.

Karin sighed and threw a glare at the other girl. She then filled the new girl in on what they had been told during the presentation. The caves, missing people, what had already been found. "It seems some stuff is still classified though," she said with a shrug. "I guess they found some stuff there that they don't want the general public to know about, or perhaps they don't want to scare us off." She then sat back down again, watching the others.

"Ah, right, you wouldn't know about that," Karin said in an apologetic tone. "Essentially, this world was created by a group called the Dark Alley. Basically a bunch of extremely skilled - and somewhat insane - scientists. They used a form of magic that can steal aspects of people from their soul, used this to somehow take the stability of an empty universe, and then used it to stabilize a new universe." She shrugged. "I have to admit I'm a bit fuzzy on the details," she said. "The group themselves now lives inside a different world, called the Alleys. It's somewhat of a strange place, basically an endless maze of alleys, with every alley in every world connecting to it. It's why most people tend to stay outside of alleys. Entering them can easily take you into the Alleys proper, which is extremely dangerous for people who aren't members, and not just because of the people who live there either. The place itself seems to be alive, and it can restructure itself any way it likes, and it doesn't seem to like intruders. And this is ignoring all the experiments and eldritch abominations walking around, or the fact that certain alleys are deathtraps that can be on fire, or filled with poison gas, or even just plain unmaking everything that enters, dumping them into the Void and destroying them."
-
Karin shrugged. "Everyone here does to some extent," she said. "Even the people who live in this world don't know everything about it. Case in point, caverns with mysterious cave-paintings in a world too young to have prehistoric civilizations. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if even the people who created this world know everything about it."
-
Karin shook Sarah's hand. "Karin Dreier," she answered, "nice to meet you. I guess you're new in this universe?"
-
"It isn't illegal," Karin said to the two girls, stirred from her meditations by their conversation. "ACE is a private enterprise," she continued, "so unless they specifically got a permit from the government the caverns are accessible by everyone. Of course, going in without a team is still stupid, way to many dangers down there, and if you'd get hurt or lost nobody would be able to find you before you die." "But even if it was illegal I wouldn't worry if I were you," she added with a laugh. "The city government isn't what I'd call an effective administration. Sure, they can take care of basic city management, but aside from that they don't have that much influence. I doubt they could actually manage to pass a law like that, especially if one of the guilds gets interested in investigating. Besides, the only reason to outlaw access to the caverns would be if it was dangerous, in which case no sane law-enforcement agency is going to sent their people down there to chase convicts."

Mari watched the man's breakdown, then flinched when he pointed at her, telling them to give her the promotion. She really hoped nobody was actually looking at her, instead focusing on him.
