  1. Thanks for the link! Added to Theoryland database.
  2. He probably does have a strong immune system, but if it is due to Heightenings, he could temporarily reduce his immunity by awakening an object. And even if he is immune and fails when trying to catch disease to use Ashyn's magic, he could still have spread the plague as you said, by being a carrier.
  3. Just had a random thought that turned into this theory that Hoid caused the "plague" in the Purelake. Why were the 17th Sharders looking for Hoid in the Purelake? Because he left a trail for them to follow him there, and theoretically uses the Purelake to worldhop. What caused the plague (Common cold) that was reported in the Purelake? A worldhopper traveling through. (see paraphrased signing report below) Who is the likely suspect? Hoid, since he likes to gather investiture. How did Hoid get sick? He went to Ashyn to try to study their form of magic. http://stormfather.tumblr.com/post/108812172073 Weiry asked: whether the plague on the purelake has anything to do with the fact that the magic fish form symbiotic bonds with spren? no worldhoppers brought a disease to Roshar that they didnt have before its the common cold. rosharans investiture makes it so they’re usually a healthy bunch so something like the cold is kind of frightening "its a plague of the sniffles”
  4. @ Ruro272, post #107 - Thank you for this transcription, which I combined with another along with some of my own notes to add to the Theoryland database http://theoryland.com/newanswer.php?i=1121 "Q: Could a Rosharan be Hemalurgically spiked with a gem or fabrial? A: (answer not spoken but girl’s response is a sound of exasperation and the artist next to Brandon laughs almost mockingly, so I sense that he wrote RAFO in her book, or something equally unimportant. Maybe somebody on the 17th Shard knows exactly what he wrote!)" This was RAFO (she asked the question for me, and I took a picture of Q&A)
  5. He asked that the reading not be posted online.
  6. I am having a difficult time trying to xfer the audio file to my pc without a lot of static being added that frankly makes it unbearable to listen to (though I was able to listen to the source without static) but I will see what I can do. There was at least one other person recording that probably was there a lot longer than me since she was behind me on the waiting line and I think she lurks on 17th but I don't know her username.
  7. I added a few reports that were transcribed from the Firefight tour. If you provide links for verbatim reports, I will try to add them to TL. I have been busy getting ready for JordanCon but hopefully will have time now, and hope to add his AMA from last year to TL at some point.
  8. I listened to my recording from the Sunday signing session (I was able to get roughly the first hour of it but had to go to catch my ride home) - there were about 9 cosmere related questions. I am adding them to the TL database - paraphrased for now, and will do verbatim at some point in the near future. http://theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1121
  9. You can add me to group PM
  10. I had a theory (that I had seen others speculate on) that Shalash was Dalinar's forgotten wife and that she induced said specific amnesia for unknown reasons, and it got me thinking. Shalash, the Herald of Lightweavers, of whom Shallan is a prime example, would be very creative and have memory-based skills, yet she goes around destroying statues and artistic renderings of herself. What purpose would this serve? I think that destroying the physical images is just the surface of it, and that the reflections of the statues and paintings in Shadesmar are also affected, that their identities are no longer as a "depiction of Shalash" in whatever form they are. Also, considering that, at least in Shalash's mind, that art and memory are linked concepts (since Shallan uses her spren-bond memory abilities when she paints and as a guess she would use them if she were to sculpt statues as well), that destroying as she does would remove the memory of her in both the cognitive and physical realms, analogous to how creating art destroys the memory in Shallan's mind. It also seems that she has been on this destructive rampage for several years. It is curious as to how/why it is taking so long, but I think it is just that she wants to be thorough. I wonder if she is somehow able to use Shadesmar to find/catalogue all the depictions of herself. As for her motive for all this, it could be that she doesn't want to be worshiped, or that she has issues with the Vorin Church, or maybe she just wants the world to forget her.
  11. I have been to the convention every year, and have been a panelist for many of the Sanderson Track discussions for last year and this year. It is a great, fun con to meet or make new friends and I highly recommend it, especially if you are in the area (I'm pretty sure you can get 1 day passes at the door).
  12. WoB = Word of Brandon, meaning he gives information about the books in an interview or Q&A. You can contact him through his web site and ask questions, though he may either RAFO you or take a long time to answer or both.
  13. Perhaps Hoid's restriction on harming is related to the KR's oath "Life before Death". Rock did say that "other gods" keep him from harming others, and he worships Syl almost like a god, so perhaps there is a spren involved - and considering how many forms of investiture Hoid has access to, it wouldn't be so surprising if he had a bond as well.
  14. Brandon will also email a copy of Mistborn Prime upon request (per this link: http://brandonsanderson.com/annotation-mistborn-2-chapter-twenty-nine/)
  15. There is another similarity - Vasher's rope belt, which while useful as a tool for awakening purposes, is also an essential part of a Mistborn's wardrobe to protect from allomantic manipulation. I could see Vasher adapting such a precaution if he had visited Scadrial on some occasion, and learned the dangers of allomancy. (sorry to bring back such an old topic, but this simple speculative post doesn't seem to merit its own thread)
  16. Granted. You know now what every one else wished for. I would like a spoiler loaded copy of The Desolation of Odium by Hoid.
  17. Actually, Szeth does think of the stones as "not cursed" which is what makes Urithiru unique in the East: WOR Interlude 10 pg 708 If he had not been bound to an Oathstone, if he had been another man entirely, he would have stayed here. The only place in the East where the stones were not cursed, where walking on them was allowed. This place was holy. But soulcast stone isn't exactly unique. Soulcasting while being a discipline of the lost Radiants is not in and of itself a lost art, as we can see from the construction of the Alethi Warcamp. It seems clear that at least all the barracks in Dalinar's area are made of soulcast stone (due to their uniformity of construction, and being made to withstand highstorms), and likely other parts of the camp as well, not to mention buildings in other nations/cities. So Urithiru must have something more unique in its construction that makes its stones safe to trod upon for the Shin. This is where my confusion comes in. Does Ali's quote refer to Urithiru having unhallowed stones? And if so, why does Szeth directly contradict that by thinking the stones are holy/uncursed? ETA: grammar
  18. Good point. That never occurred to me. When I read that passage, to me, the "outside world" referred to anything outside Shinovar. It still means unholy, in either regard. So do you feel that there is a means of blessing stone so that it can be walked up by the Shin? I thought they already considered stone to be holy.
  19. WOK Prologue pg 23 That was profane. Stone was not to be trod upon. WOK Prologue pg 25 And yet here Szeth stood, Truthless, profanely walking on stones used for building. WOK Chapter 58 pg 818 Couldn't I have just taken the simple, easy, and common route to the holy city? WOR Chapter 47 pg 549: Urithiru was the connection to all nations, she read from the Shin writer's work. And at times, our only path to the outside world, with its stones unhallowed. WOR Interlude 10 pg 708 If he had not been bound to an Oathstone, if he had been another man entirely, he would have stayed here. The only place in the East where the stones were not cursed, where walking on them was allowed. This place was holy. So, the Shin scholar Ali-daughter-Hasweth considers the stones of Urithiru to be unhallowed, or in other words to be cursed, profane or unholy, the same as any other stones that are unsafe to walk upon. Yet, Szeth considers the same stones to be holy. Why do they have this profound difference of opinion over such an important matter? Does Szeth, who has visited Urithiru, have some knowledge that Ali didn't? Are there different sects of Stone Shamanism, that have different views regarding the stones of Urithiru? Does Szeth being truthless change his views of the stones of Urithiru (seeing as how he still believes that walking on stone in other places to be wrong)? Has the stance on the stones of Urithiru changed in the intervening time between when Ali wrote, and when Szeth went to Urithiru? Were Ali's words altered in translation, by accident or intentionally?
  20. I could go back and update the Q&A's to add 'question' and format the multiline answers. It has been awhile since I added any interviews, so I got rusty on the protocols. I've been more concerned with the database being out of date.
  21. Do you mean a questioner? I updated the list to omit the questioners for the transcribed section.
  22. I have added the transcription and other posted questions to the Theoryland searchable database as well!
  23. We've got cookies spikes a full track devoted to the works of Brandon Sanderson! Also, beverages that may or may not be allomantically charged * * Or they may make you feel that way at least.
  24. You're welcome If there are any more missing transcribed Q&A's, just link them here and I will try to keep the database updated.
