    @Cognizantastic You should definitely compile evidence and I have only one thing to add to this: make notes about the cronies too, they can often make it harder for you to prove your evidence. Also try telling people who haven't heard the rumor your side of the story, producing evidence that contradicts the rumor, asking Rumor weed's boyfriend what he thinks of the rumor in private, or facing down Rumor weed with a close circle of friends.
