Nice find on the origin of the word!

As for the Parshendi transformation issue and Edgedancer, there's a recent WoB that's relevant:

      Hide contents

So until the Everstorm arrived, for whatever reason the Parshmen simply couldn't bond with a spren and take a form.

And i thought i had figuered something out, thank you for the WoB have an upvote.

  2. A little Necro from me but my theory is to small for it´s own thread. I hope it wasn´t proposed before and i just overlooked it...

Basicly i believe Venli had found and assumed Smokeform, before she talked with Eshonai about Stormform. We know she had the task of finding a form for diplomacy with the humans. "Smokeform for hiding and slipping between men. A form of power, like human Surges." from this i´m thinking of the Listener equivalent of Lightweaving, so you can look like you want to, with this they could potentially start a dialog with the humans without fear of being killed when seen. Other parts of the description of Smokefor state "Do we dare to wear this form again? It spies" and "Formed from shadow—and death is near. It lies", i guess Venli interpreted it to mean that it´s a form for spies with a talent for taking/lying but it probably was a warning that it´s spying for their Gods and you can´t trust someone who´s in Smokeform.

So Venli went out, transformed into Stormform, was possesed (like we see with Eshonai) and kept it hidden be Listener Lightweaving, which explains why there´s no shift in her character after she assumes Stormform even though we see she transformed physcally (or did she?^^)

Look at Eshonai's POV's, I don't think there is a form of listener bond that isn't forceful. The right mindset and song helps attract the right spren, but she states that prior to bringing captive spren into the storm, you could go out wanting warform, and end up as a mate. I think all they can do it put themselves out into the storm at the moment of the change and hope that the correct spren is nearest. Once that spren is focused on them, the change happens regardless of what they want. If it were somehow only able to occur through acceptance of the spren, changing to a form they hadn't intended wouldn't be possible.

I think the start of a change of forms can´t be forced, but once the change has started it can´t be stopped. Listeners could get the wrong forms because the are starting the bonding process by "kicking" their old bonded Spren out and inviting a new on in, but the wrong kind of Spren responds (like when you´re calling for your friend in a crowd but someone else responds). They probably need the highstom because the "kicking out" and the new bonding requiers much Investiture.

Continuation of theory with a bit of Edgedancerspoiler

    Spoiler

Parshmen work a little bit differently since they´re not realy a form, so they don´t have to "kick" their old Spren out and because of that they can´t deny a transformation. I´m pretty sure if a Parshmen would be left in a Highstorm he would come out as a Parshendi (probably Dullform).

  4. @ROSHtaFARian2.0 That was a great interpretation and i would generally agree with you, but i would disagree on some points (all but one of them rather small). If i understood correctly you propose that a Shard is more closley tied to one Plane that the others and Adonalsium in sum would be equally tied to all three Planes. But wouldn´t the creation of Harmony disproove that? Ruin and Preservation are extremly Physical like you said, but Harmony strikes me as extremly Spiritual. Since Harmony is essentially a balance and true perpetual balance is a single state i would argue it´s even more purely Spiritual than Odium since you can hate in more ways than one.

  5. Nightbood being made from metal could also have something to do with how Invested Vasher and Shashara wanted to make Nightblood.  Edgedancer spoiler

    Spoiler

Wyndle says that sprenblades can take any form but they have to be metal because of the way Investiture condenses

so that could mean if you want somehing to hold absolutly ridiculous amounts of Investiture it would need to be metal

  6. We know that Selish magicsystems are based on Locations because the Dor is in the Cognitiv realm, which is somewhat formed by belief. It also seems like every country has their own unique magicsystem. So my question is, if we assume that some country, let´s say Arelon because Elantrians, conquered another nation and makes it part of itself. After a long time most people don´t think about those two nations as seperate anymore, for them it´s just Arelon. Would that change the cognitive realm of the conquered country enough to allow it´s citizens to become Elantrians and remove their own magic system, or would the magicsystems somehow fuse, or would nothing change about them?

I´m wondering because Bloodsealing is drastically different from Forgery in effect, but the method by which the Investiture is drawn in/used is strikingly similiar. Could that be a hint that the Rose empire is on it´s way to a single magisystem?

  7. Ah sorry i missunderstood the premise

I would say if you have a "true" AI (as opposed to a highly complex program which can respond to more or less all situations, but is limited by the programming) it would have a Spiritweb although i guess it would be drasticly different from organic life or a Typ4. I think an AI could Realmaticlly be rather similiar to a Cognitive Shadow, since both have a Cognitiv and Spiritual aspect but an extremly weak/or nonexistent Physical one (i´m working under the assumption that the AI could hopbetwen "bodies").

  8. But we know Nightblood decided the battle of twilight falls and with it the everwar so it must have some large scale applications (i also base this on Lightsongs vision where he saw a woman (forgot the name) with Nightblood in the center of the painting. So itwas either important enough that it was painted 300 yeats later or to be put in by Endowment)

  9. Do we actually know if Nightblood remains on the same "powerlevel" for the whole duration it is used? Because if i remember correctly the amount of Breath/Investiture it consumes is constantly increasing while it´s drawn, so i wouldn´t be surprised if there are "powerlevels" for Nightblood (depending on the duration it´s drawn). If it would countinue to have the same powers, an increase in the consumed Investiture wouldn´t actually make that much sense to me...

On the higher "powerlevels" it could be possible to make the classical anime-cut where you can be 20m from your target and destroy the landscape^^

Rereading what I wrote I realize that I worded it wrong... by Hemalurgist I was referring to someone who is spiked, or someone who uses Hemalurgy, which I know is redundant, I was just trying to compare to how Lerasium turns people into Allomancers.  My point in bringing this up was to show that atium does not have a side effect comparable to lerasium's granting of allomantic power, so there is a possibility of an alternate side effect.

Maybe instinctive knowledge of where bind points for spikes are?

  11. In Secret History it wasn´t explicily said that Ruin didn´t know how to splinter a Shard, but Khriss wondered if it was because he doesn´t know how or if he lacks the strength (personally i would gues the later). Also now that i think about it they were talking there about the killing of a Shardholder rather than the Splintering of the Shard itself. Ruin nearly managed to splinter Preservation after Leras had died so he does know how.

  14. I´m not sure if the boon and the curse are so strictly divided in this case. Someone else proposed the theory (if i´m remembering correctly) that on the day he created the Diagram he was smart enough to figure out when he will be smart or compassionate. The Diagram is a plan to make him seem like a perfect ruthless champion for Odium, so he will be chosen by him, but the day of the final confrontation between Odiums and Honors champion will be the day he is equally compassionate to how smart he was during the creation of the diagram and he will sacrifice himself to save humankind.
