It's got a cover now! https://www.amazon.com/Brandon-Sandersons-White-Sand-2/dp/152410342X/ Also, date was moved back to November 14... Which seems suspicious being the same date as Oathbringer...

I think he just sees his collection as temporary until they can be stored somewhere more permanently. Reddit WoB's should ultimately go somewhere with all the others. A special database just for those, managed by one guy, isn't sustainable.

Finished my transcription of the new interlude. Someone please look it over while listening and check for mistakes. I'm sure they're there. Posting it here and in @TheHunter's google doc.

Edit: See my next post below for the finished transcript. Leaving this post as is. Started transcribing the interlude, but I need to get to bed. About 1/3 of the way through. Left off at [24:30]. If anyone else wants to carry on with it before I get back to this, see below. It would also be helpful just for someone to check over what I have so far. I'm sure there's mistakes as I only gave it one pass and names are always tricky.

What's on your list of "things you may have missed" that you share with a newcomer after reading? Things that often go over people's heads after one read? Foreshadowing that's easy to forget about? WoBs that clarify or add to the story/world? We're trying to fill in this page with cool, helpful info: http:www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/wiki/thingsyoumissed Feel free to edit that page directly if you have a Reddit account, or just share here and I can add them! (Edgedancer content is more than welcome, but hide it in here.)

Astronomical Effects on Shards and Magic Systems
Jofwu replied to ILuvHats's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I want to say that we know Darkside is invested via the Sun as well but in a more indirect manner. (and to a significantly lesser degree) -

Yeah, but it's a very popular, very common in-world nickname. Brandon uses it more than her actual name when talking about her, and it's used in the text at least once already (WoR prologue). Meanwhile, the Scadrial article says very little about actual ash. I think a disambiguation page is warranted already, and it's only going to become more necessary as we see more Shalash.

(I haven't read the prose, for the most part). I don't doubt that it feels different, but I disagree that it makes for an inferior story. Kerztian culture doesn't appear to be male-dominated in he graphic novel. Aside from Ais, there are plenty of female warriors. It's just different. Khriss absolutely stands out as a stranger on Dayside regardless. I'd be surprised if she doesn't stand out more than in the prose, because her clothes, dress, and mannerisms make her look out place in any panel just by... being there. Granted I'm not certain where Khriss's story is headed. I only know a few snippets. But I don't see what you're saying so far as it concerns volume 1.

Have you thought about what it is specifically that he can see? Does he see electrical charge? Electrical current? Voltage? I think to narrow down what he can and cannot see, you'd have to start there. Seeing charge would enable him to see static electricity while current wouldn't. If he can see current, is the visibility a function of the magnitude of that current, or of something else like voltage?

This is from Ad Astra, just last weekend.

For some reason I thought this was referring to the nurse present when Lemex dies. I can't find any source for that assumption, but the only "nurse" present in the book is that one. This seems to be the source for the claim: https://www.reddit.com/r/brandonsanderson/comments/603zc3/warbreaker_we_know_where_the_terrisan_lady_is/ I didn't watch, but confirmation on this one is questionable judging by the comments.

I'll try to remember to highlight this post on the next /r/cosmere WoB Roundup!

There's another confirmed interlude that Brandon read at Boskone: As for speculation... We've seen Axies every book so far. If he doesn't make a cameo in the main story I suspect we'll at least get a glimpse of him in another interlude like we did with Rysn. Maybe even a viewpoint. We've gotten an interlude about (or by) a Herald in every book so far. So I'm guessing we'll see this again. My first guess would be Shallash, since she's supposed to be important and we didn't see her in WoR. My next guess would be "the man called Taln" because I don't see him coming up in the main story. But it could be Nale or some other Herald we haven't heard much about yet. I don't see Taravangian getting a spot in the main story, and I think we'll need to see from him again to progress that storyline. Other miscellaneous interludes... New Natanatan is such a mystery right now. I'd like to see something from there. An interlude from Thaylenah would also be interesting. Another from the northwest (Iri) wouldn't be surprising. Another from the Shin is also probably overdue.

Well we know that they weaken as they move across Roshar. Storms in the west aren't as bad as they are in the east. It also seems to me that they aren't bad the further north/south you go from the equator. (I get the impression that they aren't super awful in the Reshi Isles) So they behave just like normal storms. They get weaker and lose energy as they move over land and run into mountains. So I don't think that's particularly relevant to the post. It doesn't change how they get started (moons/planets aligning in some way) or how fast they move. Unfortunate that the speed is really high after all... Doesn't change the idea of how the storms might get started, but does suggest they don't travel 100% counter to the planet's rotation. As I think about it more, I'm not sure I like that idea anyways. The moons (and planets) are moving with respect to Roshar and the Sun, so if the argument is that the storm stays tied to those positions in some way I wouldn't expect it to effectively remain "stationary" (relative to the Sun) like that.

Exactly. You could turn down every offer waiting for the perfect one to come. But chances are it never will. Or you found take a decent offer and hope it works out.
-
Yeah, that sounds totally reasonable! Any chance you'd mind diving into the math for that calculation? Not something I'm familiar with and it sounds interesting.
-
But it's just artwork, not a scientific drawing. We don't know that Khriss drew it (I think there's evidence she didn't?). And if she did, she's not a scientist. The information we can glean from it is that Roshar has 3 moons in elliptical orbits with low perigees (perishars?) along the dark side of the planet. What makes you think that? All you need for them to not overlap is to have the same period (and roughly similar periapses, which they do). They appear at night because apsidal precession keeps their orbit oriented with respect to the Sun. That's a neat way to put it! Seems like there was a theory that the moons and/or planets were giant gemstones, but I think that got shot down. I'm just curious what it is about them that (perhaps) causes them to affect investiture like this. Well, 500 mph winds can do a lot more than toss boulders. Sustained winds over 100 mph will do massive damage. As far as I can tell, there's never been a hurricane on Earth with sustained wind speeds over 200 mph. A 200 mph gust of wind will exert something on the order of 100 psf of pressure. That's like lashing an elephant at 1g to every 8ft x 8ft section of wall. BUT I wouldn't dismiss the theory for a few reasons... One is that I'm not a weather scientist. Maybe a storm moving at 500 mph doesn't necessarily mean wind speeds of 500mph at the surface? Also, Roshar has lower air pressure, which means you need higher wind speeds to get the same forces you would on Earth. Plus it's fantasy, and this definitely seems close enough to be plausible.

Ah! Yes, I could have sworn it was supposed to be a phonetic thing. Must have had this decryption effort in the back of my mind. So I guess they've been inconsistent, and that you can go either way with it. Which is fair since the whole concept is a bit of a hack anyways. The usage in the book is more about giving a sense for what the writing looks like, and that comes out the same either way.

I don't have time to read EVERYTHING EVERYDAY, and they help me keep track of things I care about most. "Content I started" is nice because obviously I'm interested in any topic that I started. I guess it's maybe possible to set up notifications every time someone comments on a thread I started, and just use the notifications to keep track. But this is cleaner and easier to do on my own time. Same thing for "Content I follow". I used to have to click my username, click "manage content I follow", and then click "Topics" on the left. With waits for a new page load each time. Now it's two easy clicks. Was there a better way to see followed topics before? Lastly, I like having multiple filtered "Unread Content" streams. I've got one for all the Cosmere forums and one for 17S stuff (book signings, general, coppermind). So I can just get the unread content I'm interested in at the moment. You can also set up a custom stream for "Content I follow" but filtered to certain forums. So I could have one that's JUST "Stormlight Content I follow" for example. That's pretty useful!

Yep, definitely is. "Knife" and "cause" as well. "Attackers" has two T-symbols. Thanks for the response.

This is a fantastic analysis @strumienpola. I've always been under the assumption that the "forms of power" (i.e. voidbringers) showed up sooner than the Nahel bond. It seems like the voidbringers have been around as long as the Desolations, and we know the Knights Radiant didn't show up until after the Desolations started. So what does this mean? Did the Listeners not become Odium's minions until after the KR were founded? It's worth noting that we don't see any of them in Dalinar's flashbacks. Just odiumspren monsters like Midnight Essence and Thunderclasts. Or did the Nahel bond exist prior to the Desolations? Maybe spren bonding with men has been a much older thing than I expected, and the KR was more of a formality that came about later. Perhaps the formation of the KR opened the door to deeper/stronger usage of the bond for some reason. If this is the case, what were these pre-KR Nahel bonds like? It seems to me that one of these must be the case, and either has interesting implications. Your point about listeners needing to feed energy/investiture to their bond is an interesting one that strongly reminds me of Lift's "condition". If you're right, I wonder if they are able to metabolize food into the investiture needed. Heck, perhaps all of the native Rosharan creatures (with gemhearts?) can do this? Pair this with the fact that Lift can see more strongly into the cognitive realm and she bears some striking resemblance to the Listeners. Do we have any evidence that Listeners can touch spren as Lift can? (Then again, can she touch any spren or just Wyndle? Her bond with him might make that a special case.) I dunno, it just seems to me like there's an interesting theory about Lift under all of this.

The activity streams are glorious. Thank you for making this happen. Is there any chance they will be available on mobile at some point? Is that possible? I, for one, would find it really useful. I also agree it would be really cool if there were leaderboards for each forum. Or a way to filter/sort leaders by forum. For example, it would be nice to specifically see who is the current leader in the Stormlight Archives forum. But if this isn't possible I can live.
