Tournament: Cosmere Character Roast Battles

Kelsier swung himself on to the marble counter, briefly tapping pewter for the extra strength and dexterity. “Hi!” He said to the startled goblin. “I’m Kelsier,” he offered the now-irritated looking man a scarred hand. Scowling, the goblin gave it a brief shake. ”I need to access my funds,” Kelsier explained. “As do my friends.” The goblin sighed. “You have a key?” Kelsier shook his head. “I’m afraid not. I’m not exactly from around ‘ere.” The goblin heaved a long suffering sigh. “Oh, one of THOSE. Try not to wreck things too badly; the paperwork after a reweave is so tedious.” Kelsier smirked. “No promises, friend.” The goblin scowled, shoving a blank piece of parchment and a needle at him. “One drop off blood on the paper please.” Kelsier nodded, stabbing his index finger and letting the droplet fall to the parchment. Immediately words began to form identifying him. The Survivor glowered as his father’s surname appeared beside his own. He swiped his still bloody finger across it, obscuring the name. The goblin smiled cruelly. “You know they use surnames at the school, don’t you?” Kelsier forced himself to smile back, a dangerous light gleaming in his eye. “I’ll just ‘ave to see if I can’t convince them otherwise.” There was no way he was using that name. “I assume we can access the account now?” The goblin nodded. “Unless your friends want to access their accounts too?” @Narcoleptic Axolotl and @Lecky Twig, are you going down to the vaults?

He says that when he believes Kaladin is dying and there’s no way to save him. That has nothing to do with his issues with Kaladin fighting. It’s his way of dealing with the fact that the only thing left he can do for his son is be there when he dies. Which is a horrible place for a parent to be in.

Kelsier’s smile broadened. “Like I said - a challenge.” He burned steel, blue lines piercing the floors. As he’d suspected, there was a lot of metal below the building. Not much of a challenge really - at least, not for an Allomancer. Certainly not a Fullborn. He stopped burning the metal, glancing about the room instead. There were numerous small creatures manning the various desks - goblins, according to the HP file. An unusually large man was stumbling out of a side door, accompanied by a short, messy haired boy. Half giant, Kelsier determined, double checking the index in his Coppermind. He could feel the story weaving itself around the dark haired boy. Important then, maybe even the main character. It didn’t matter much to Kelsier, and he had no intention of disrupting the story this early. Maybe once they got to school... He ignored the duo as he walked toward the counter, not bothering to spare them another glance.

Kelsier raised a brow as he reached the bank doors. “Map, huh?” He scowled briefly as he entered the vestibule, turning his head slightly to read the words on the inner set of doors. Trying to read words inscribed in metal with his right eyes was an exercise in futility. He’d long since become accustomed to his dual vision, but focusing with only one eye could still be disorienting. Still, he was too curious not to read the words inscribed on the silver doors. Enter, stranger, but take heed Of what awaits the sin of greed For those who take, but do not earn, Must pay most dearly in their turn. So if you seek beneath our floors A treasure that was never yours, Thief, you have been warned, beware Of finding more than treasure there. “Warning?” He laughed, shaking his his head slightly as he leaned forward to push open the doors, using the motion to hide the momentary lack of balance as his visions returned to alignment. “Sounds more like a challenge! It’s practically demanding someone try!”

Kelsier smirked at the twins. “Maybe I’m not a child. Maybe I’m a centuries old Cognitive entity in the form of a child.” The best lies were always true.

Or Kandra. I think we can eliminate Koloss though...

Funny thing is, I keep varying between funny and dramatic. Like, on the one hand I imagine that Dalinar and Kelsier have to be fairly close to each other or it becomes very painful for Kell (as he’s the Spren in the bond.) And when Dalinar realizes this he’s like, “we’ll just set up a bed in my parlor.” And Navani is like, “are you completely storming insane?! No! No way!” And Kelsier isn’t especially thrilled either, but he also doesn’t like suffering when he’s more than twenty feet from Dalinar, so... On the other hand, I also have things like Kelsier refusing to join Dalinar on the battlefield even if it is painful for him, because he represents too much of Scadrial to openly oppose Odium without it being a declaration of war. And Dalinar understands and respects this, even though Wit tells him that Kell could just wipe out the enemy forces (true). And this leads to them both coming to respect the other a bit more. And that event leads to Kelsier and Dalinar talking about the bond and how it’s supposed to be symbiotic. So Dalinar wonders what Kelsier gets out of it and Kelsier tells him “an excuse.” Which completely confuses Dalinar. Because, of course, Kelsier’s realized that by making it clear how upset he is at being forcibly bonded gives him the leeway to help the coalition directly while seeming not to... so he’s actually much more okay with things than he’s letting on. And then I have a scene where Navani gets so fed up with Hoid and Kell sniping at one another during a war meeting that she throws them both out. And then demands to know why the immortals are the most childish ones. Oh, and Kelsier actually kind-of behaves around her after that because he thinks she’s awesome for doing that (and is semi in love with her from that point on.) And then I have a scene where Navani goes to where the old Radiant statues are to burn a glyph for Elhokar. And Kelsier is there and he’s crying - which she’s never actually seen him do. It turns out that it’s the anniversary of Vin’s death, which he almost missed because of the different calendars, and he’s just realized that this is the first time he can’t visit her grave because he’s as stuck on Roshar as he was on Scadrial. So Navani ends up bonding (in the non-nahel sense) with her husband’s not-exactly a Spren over their dead children. I guess this is a Tragicomedy?

Kelsier sighed dramatically. “Seems I ‘ave my work cut out for me then. I suppose I’ll just ‘ave to ask around; someone should know.” He shook his head in mock regret. “You really shouldn’t ignore ‘istory.” He shook his head again, lowering his voice slightly as he took on the accents of a stuffiest members of the High Nobility. “Very important thing, ‘istory. Why without it I wouldn’t ‘ave known enough of religion to start my own.” He shot a sideways glance at the twins as he climbed the white stairs, and winked.

Kelsier smiled, and there was a dangerous edge to its gleam. “‘E ‘asn’t met me yet.” He paused, the beginnings of a plan percolating in his mind. “Tell me: what does first year ‘istory usually entail? What subjects do we cover?”

Since I think part of Kelsier’s era 3 plan involves conning multiple Shards so Harmony can acquire enough others to act... this fits quite nicely. To add: I am very much of the opinion that the ending of Era four Mistborn is hidden in Era 1.

The Person Below Me

Very true. Although I’ve been absent for other reasons. TPBM has come an hour late to a regent (or similar exam) finished an hour early and gotten over a 95 on it. -
Kelsier’s smirk grew dark. “Guess this ghost will just ‘ave to liven things up then.”

Kelsier grinned at the twins, his single eye sparkling. “Could be interesting. Of course, you want to make sure there’s nothing important being taught first - even if it is boring. Knowledge is power, after all, and even the most boring lessons can ‘ave secrets.”

What's some interesting lore surrounding the Final Empire?
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Cheyenne Sedai's topic in Mistborn
Check Brandon’s annotations. Those were quite interesting. -
Lirin isn’t okay with that. He says that because he’s psyching himself up to watch his son die. He knows, as a surgeon, that Kaladin is already dead and it’s just a matter of making him comfortable until he goes Beyond. Note that he’s packing his medical bag even as he speaks, his actions at odds with his words. It’s a terrible situation to be in, and Lirin doesn’t choose a very good method of dealing with it. But I can sympathize, because I’ve been in that situation. It’s probably the worst situation a parent can be in, having to sit and watch your child die, knowing there’s nothing you can do. And as soon as Lirin gets another option he jumps on it. Because sometimes, sometimes you do get a miracle. Now, back to our regularly scheduled discussion of potential bad guys.

16 is Scadrial’s number. Also the Cosmere’s as a whole.

Kelsier smirked as he took the toffee. “Will do.” Now, how to trick the twins into testing their own mischief... “Interesting trick that. All the syllables right and the sounds all wrong. Usually people do the opposite.” He tossed the toffee from hand to hand as he wandered toward the bank. “We need to go to the bank. After - care to give us a tour?”
