All right, I tried to find the Night Vale thread, but was unsuccessful, so I'm putting this here. For anyone in the Utah or Salt Lake City area, apparently the King's English Bookshop is hosting Night Vale Live, as announced in a recent email: The Enter here link leads to this Google doc: Entry form The Purchase tickets here link leads here: Tickets @bleeder You're the only Night Vale fan I can think of off the top of my head, but I know there are others here on the Shard... Maybe you could help get the word out to them?

Emails containing images that are wider than my email viewing window, so I am forced to scroll left and right to read each line of text. Why?? Stop using such ginormous header images!

Sanderson-Related things to do in Utah
Sunbird replied to Aryanath's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Oh! Just realized I forgot to mention two other awesome BBQ/steakhouse places. I don't know if they're present in SLC, but Wallaby's and Bam Bam's BBQ are both fantastic. Wallaby's is, naturally, Australian-themed, and they have burgers, brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and some fun and interesting sides other than the standard French fries. Cheesy mashed potatoes (except they call them smashers), Mac n cheese, garlic mashed potatoes, bagged chips, I think green beans too... Plus a variety of different sauces on the tables so you can sample whichever ones you feel like. At Bam Bam's you can order meat by itself, priced by weight, or get a combo with a side and drink. (Some of the combos are sandwiches here as well.) They also have brisket and pulled pork and I think chicken too. Oh and ribs. For sides there are bagged chips and I'm pretty sure cole slaw is also an option. They've got BBQ sauces out on the tables like Wallaby's.- 16 replies

I'll jump on the @Calderis bandwagon He (you? I don't know who to address here) always has worthwhile things to say, in my experience.

Plowed through the entirety of Nothing Left to Lose, the final John Cleaver book, yesterday. Dang. I'm very happy with the way Dan Wells ended the series, which I wasn't expecting. (Neither how he ended it nor my happiness with it)

Sanderson-Related things to do in Utah

There are definitely some awesome steakhouses and BBQ places, but because I live about an hour away from SLC I'm not super familiar with the ones in the city. That said, I can recommend some chain restaurants that are likely present in Salt Lake. Winger's is sort of a sports bar type place that specializes in wings and burgers, and I know for a fact you can try fry sauce there. (They might have bison burgers on the menu as well, but I'm not sure.) Another chain I like is called Sizzler. They offer steaks, seafood, ribs, chicken, soups/salads, and give you rolls with honey butter to snack on while you wait for your meal. Right near Temple Square there's also The Lion House, the name referring to Brigham Young's nickname "the lion of the Lord" (for his outspokenness in defending Mormonism in the early days of the Church). I've only been there once, but it's a bit of a novelty experience when you visit Salt Lake. They have sort of a little buffet with things like salmon, green beans and other veggies, corn bread, meatloaf, and Lion House rolls, which are somewhat famous because they're delicious. I hope this is helpful!- 16 replies

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Sunbird replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know you're a Sanderfan when you see the word "opposition" but your brain reads it as "Coppermind" -
@Kaladinwillumarryme? Welcome to the Shard! I can tell already that we have some things in common: numbers 2, 3, and 5 from your intro post also apply to me I noticed that your profile pic is the logo of Brigham Young University. I live in Utah; do you live here too? @Tesh Kholin you mentioned birds. Do you have some as pets? *loves birds*

Moar nature photos Thistle flowers: one not quite blooming yet, and one in full bloom. Poppies, one red and one pink: A very cooperative Mourning Dove: Lesser Goldfinch and House Finch eating thistle seeds off the flowers: Cliff Swallow peering out of its mud nest at me: Question: When I post my photos in the future, do y'all want me to keep putting them in this thread, or should I use my old fanart thread in the Creater's Creator's Corner from now on? -
Thanks for letting us know you're okay. You will do GREAT at this whole getting married thing. =) I was 4 when it happened, so I was utterly clueless. I didn't learn about until yeeeears later when my high school band played "An American Elegy" in class and our director explained the origins of the piece.

The 17th Shard as the Kandra Nation.
Sunbird replied to Calderis's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@Calderis It may have been around that same time, but I was oblivious because I didn't know anything about WoT or Brandon's books besides Alcatraz. So maybe calling myself a Sanderfan when all I'd read was Alcatraz isn't quite accurate. -
Sanderson-Related things to do in Utah
Sunbird replied to Aryanath's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Hello, Utah resident here! Unfortunately there aren't any Sanderson museums or restaurants or things like that, but I can suggest a few places where you might find signed books. 1. If you're getting to Utah by airplane and landing in the Salt Lake airport, stop by Simply Books in the C gates (Terminal 2) and ask the booksellers if they have any signed copies. That's Brandon's favorite place to "Brandalize" when he travels. 2. On your free day in SLC, you may want to check out 2 bookstores: Weller Book Works and the King's English Bookshop. They both host signings with various authors on a fairly regular basis, and it's only about a 10-minute drive between the two. Weller Book Works address: 607 Trolley Square, Salt Lake City, UT 84102 King's English address: 1511 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84105 As for BYU Cosmere Club, we meet on BYU campus down in Provo (about an hour's drive from Salt Lake when the traffic is cooperative) and are still deciding when to hold the next meeting. I'll go grab a link to the thread about it so you can join the discussion. EDIT: @Aryanath Here's the link to the page of the BYU Cosmere Club thread where we started talking about scheduling the next meeting:- 16 replies

The 17th Shard as the Kandra Nation.
Sunbird replied to Calderis's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@Pagerunner By that methodology I'd be a 4th, since I joined right after the release of BoM. I've been a Sanderfan longer than that, though; started with Alcatraz sometime before the end of 2011 and began reading Cosmere novels in fall 2013. -

Mm, I'd probably fit into the 3rd or 4th generation. I joined about 18 months ago and am not terribly far behind Mestiv in terms of rep count (that matters cos he's always been awesome AND he's a mod now ), but I figure I'm not a really big name since I don't actually spend much time in the Cosmere-centered subforums.
