Hmmm... This looks like it could be a fun game. It looks to be a nice balance between time-tested role distribution and new features. Plus I'm not in any SE games and I expect I should have the time for this one. I'll try not to die for once. Sign me up as... Hm... Need a new Scadrial character. Name generators to the rescue... Lets go with Dromea Larabeck. She's an elderly lady (minor noble) that works as an informant for the guards. Oh, also, question. What happens if a mistborn gets their hands on a hemalurgic spike, or if a misting gets a spike of their existing power?

Ah okay good, just wanted to get that clear because I didn't see it in the outline. That sounds perfectly balanced then.
-
Hmmm out of curiosity, would your lurchers be able to protect same person many times in a row? And would they be permitted to self-protect? These things slightly change how powerful a protective role can be.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DrakeMarshall replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Huh. Well played. Anyways, you don't have to go to the concert. You never did. The nightwatcher perceives that your wish is really expressing a desire to have a more precise command of the english language, and grants you this. As your bane, you lose the little toe on your left foot, which gives you a slight limp. I wish to witness Hoid and Kelsier argue about being on time. Kelsier believes that "always being on time implies that you have nothing better you should be doing" where Hoid believes that timeliness is in fact the greatest and most valued virtue. Neither of them seem to be very good at dying on time... -

Granted. You sell your soul to Odium for $42.00 USD and now have money. When you die however, your cognitive shadow will be trapped on Braize and you will experience something similar to what the heralds did between the desolations. On the bright side, I'm sure when Sanderson eventually finishes his ten book series, the threat of Odium will be contained. So probably after a few years of torture you'll be freed to pass into the beyond. I wish for something that I won't regret wishing for, despite the bane. -

Granted. You can go in a coma until the day before oathbringer comes out, so from your perspective, it seems like it only takes a day. But you did lose a few months of your life, all so you could reach your destination of Oathbringer. Journey before destination!!! *runs away cackling as you fall into a deep sleep* I wish for a flock of domesticated Aviar, ones that can grant useful powers. (I just read Sixth of Dusk ). -

I mean, kandra were created at the Lord Ruler's ascension, and Hoid was alive before the shattering... Don't think that could work But Hoid's abilities are likely very similar to those of a kandra, in that he is very hard to kill and really good at disguising himself... I suspect that Hoid is much harder to kill than even a kandra though, because I think a shardblade would kill a kandra easily, and Hoid wasn't particularly impressed by being threatened by one. -
Or that he has but that his elim buddies are unable to keep him sane. Pretty sure insanity while expelled means death. But I'm guessing that they have a physicker.

I'm not sure if a vote counts as targeting you though. Maybe ask the GMs... Would be a good way to get money though, even if you seem to have been using it to discourage votes instead Anyways... Speaking of coins, I may be only a cealdish commoner, but seeing as I'm not paying tuition and lodging cheaply, I just realized that I should actually be able to afford an assassin soon. Fear me
-
I honestly don't know. I wouldn't have guessed you could though...
-
Maybe you think voting counts as an action against you that you can pickpocket...? I'm not sure really what to make of this. Preferably not a corpse.
-
!!!! You're probably one of them AAAAAAAAAAA
-
That's an interesting way of looking at it... Hmmmmmm... Oh dear. So the win condition for village is actually to kill all skindancers. If they are all expelled or insane, that isn't enough. So... Maybe it does make sense to sabotage your own. They aren't dead in terms of the win condition, and they are unlikely to get killed... So it's actually not that much of a risk. An insane skindancer will undoubtedly break free, eventually. The drawback in that case is that your early sabotage on villagers aren't likely to be permanent. And that the game goes on long enough that it is very likely that multiple village masters emerge.
-
Hmmm but if Aonar is serious about stopping us, he might just PM a bunch of random people this cycle, so that the odds of hitting the eliminator doc is low. On the bright side, I doubt other eliminators could risk doing the same, because if we notice someone suddenly making tons of PMs, we can conclude that they are suspect. Ohhhh lol never mind about Aonar sending PMs. Like me, he is expelled. He can't send any PMs. So technically his only messaging this cycle will be the eliminator doc. You can spy on him now and freely gain access to the eliminator doc without him being able to stop you, if my read of the rules is correct. Mind you, that may not be as useful as it sounds. If the elims are careful in their doc, their actual words probably aren't very compromising. And I'm not even sure that you can gain access to the eliminator doc using normal PM spying, it is possible this is a power unique to the name of the wind. And probably if our namers are going to use wind against Aonar, they should use it to kill, not to spy... I share your regret that they revealed their methods so early. But we did kind of force PK to reveal that secret.
-
Hmmm good point, I was wrong about the math. But still, you really think the game is liable to last 20 turns? Still not so sure its worth it. Also, this thread has been getting quiet...
-
Okay but how impossible is it? We are on the seventh term that anyone was insane. That means even if they sabotaged their own man D1, they still only have a 7/20 chance of them escaping by now. I'm not sure it's worth that risk, just to gain people's trust. Might be worth it if you became a master namer, but then, at this point, its late enough in the game that you probably won't have time to escape. I really don't see it being a worthwhile trade. Also, did you just cast a vote and retract it in the same post? EDIT: Oh, also. Speaking of insanity... Seeing as Aonar felt safe enough to study naming and learn multiple names, even though naming has very high insanity risks... I'm guessing very likely that one of the elims is a physicker. Quite possibly one that can protect Aonar from a kill, at least every other turn. And speaking of university fields, any masters yet?
-
Hmmmmmm true. Well, I guess I'll just request that all our village namers to attack him this cycle, and that should probably be enough firepower to eat through any kill protection he might have. Moving forward... Aonar hasn't posted too much, which is annoying in terms of discovering accomplices. Wilson might have had a better read on Aonar's elim buddies, seeing as Wilson said she had PMed with Aonar fairly often. But Wilson's dead, so... Any leads?
-
Well, clearly I'm not a namer. Or the guy who designed the naming mechanic. Okay I'll just speak bluntly. Is anyone killing Aonar this turn?
-
Well this is ironic. I considered using nahlrout on Aonar but figured someone else would certainly be roleblocking him already, even if I didn't end up having time to confirm it in-thread... Good of you to admit that at any rate. I promise I won't use nahlrout on you again, unless I am presented with more solid evidence. EDIT: And, the best part is, this state of affairs pretty much works in my favor either way. Either you are a villager, in which case by your own admission you are both willing and able to roleblock Aonar, and you will do so, providing a critical service to the village. Or you are an eliminator, and you still have to convince Aonar not to kill anyone, because if he does kill someone, you'll have to answer for it. I have to say I'm not sure which one it is, but it doesn't actually matter that much. Aonar can't kill anyone either way, I don't waste anymore actions/nahlrout, and you don't get roleblocked a second time. Everyone wins. Except Aonar, of coarse. Sorry Aonar. EDIT2: But actually, seeing as Aonar didn't kill anyone this cycle, I'm guessing someone else managed to successfully roleblock him. So... Hm. It's probably actually best if people can figure out who is going to do the deed this cycle, and not have too many people all try to do that. EDIT3: I'm really doing too many edits point is, we can't actually very well coordinate who roleblocks Aonar, because if it is publically one person... Well then the elims can just roleblock that person. Assuming BR is telling the truth about nahlrout blocking another use of nahlrout, anyway. I'm not sure I agree with that. It's only a conditional roleblock; if Aonar had the presence of mind to buy a bit of nahlrout it would do nothing to hurt him. I would recommend roleblocking him with a role related power, or nahlrout. Wait how do you know that Aonar has access to more then just the name of the wind? Oh and also RIP Wilson. I guess the gods of RNG must hate her, seeing as the mercs attacked her twice in one cycle.
-
Interesting... They attacked Eol, not PK. Seeing as Eol was unscathed, it could be WGG I suppose, but *shrugs* I really have to say I don't know. My read on Eol's been pretty neutral. And yes BR, you are right that to me at least you look suspicious. Sorry if I'm wrong about that, but you haven't really persuaded me otherwise. Not that my views will do you much harm. Personally, if I had to guess elims, I'd say Aonar, BR, Jondesu, Cluny. I guess probably there's a fifth. But the only one I'm very sure about at all on that list is obviously Aonar. Oh, and @Silverblade5, I don't know if you've heard the good news seeing as nobody tagged you, but apparently you aren't dead any more. Congratulations. I guess you are probably trustworthy. Anyways, I know we've outed an elim, but it looks to me like the village casualties are getting pretty high considering we've only managed to out (and not even kill yet) a single eliminator. At any rate, in regard to dealing with Aonar. We need to approach this methodically and cautiously. Expulsion is certainly the best first step against him. From there, make absolutely sure someone is consistently roleblocking him until someone can kill him. I recommend nahlrout, but alternatively a power role may be able to do some good. If someone wants to risk using a name to kill him, be my guest, otherwise I recommend someone who has enough money buy an assassin. Seeing as Aonar is obviously forewarned, I'm betting he survives a single kill, so try and coordinate a double tap if you can. But while I hold that it is of utmost importance to deal with Aonar properly, I don't advise spending more time then is necessary discussing that. I would try to look for your next lynch target. Seeing as Aonar isn't very wealthy, but that it is very likely that elims have purchased at least one assassin, I'd guess the social class distribution on eliminators is pretty even...

Now, RP. The volume of RP I make is unsurprisingly lower now that I don't get tuition reductions for it, but I still intend to make some RP posts. I'll definitely want to do one if I finish the game alive. Greyson made a hasty link between the small stove in his room and the candle at his table. The stove was down to the embers, but it provided enough heat to funnel into the candle. Suddenly, a tongue of flame flickered to life on the wick, dimly illuminating his desk. It was a commonplace thing now, this sympathy. Months ago it had seemed impossible, unreachable, just like... Well, magic. The months could well be years. By candlelight, he dipped his pen in the ink, slowly, deliberately tapping the pen twice on the side of the jar. Grasping for the words to a letter he dreaded composing. He waited in a pointed silence. The silence grew long, then grew old, then finally withered away to a particularly uproarious bout of laughter downstairs. Business was picking up at Anker's. The dying silence gave up its final breath to the scratchings of a pen, at first timid but then more confident. Greetings from the University, It is my hope that this letter finds you well. I apologize for not writing sooner, but things have been very busy. Keeping up with my studies has demanded much time from me. And there is more... There have been attacks. Even some deaths among the students. Rumors of demons, the sort that wear a man's skin like we might wear clothing. I wouldn't have cared at all for the rumors... But the University masters seem to take them seriously. And yet, even now they do nothing about it. But, alas, this is not my primary reason for writing. Earlier you expressed interest in my progress at the University. And, indeed, shortly after the last time I wrote, I was elevated to an E'lir and admitted into the arcanum. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding occurred this term that has resulted in my expulsion. I have attempted to make the masters see reason, but they will not. It seems that I am no longer able to continue my studies. Your patronage has been most valuable, and I have already learned much at the University. With little else to do here at the University, I will be purchasing passage to return to Ceald. I shall likely be arriving shortly after this letter does... Greyson paused, the pen held poised over the paper. Leave the University? There was still much to be done here. Secrets that he had never dreamed of, still at his fingertips. And possibly even a chance to study a real live demon up close. How many people get the opportunity to study live demons, straight from the storybooks? Could he pass that up, just because of some foolish misunderstanding? No. No, he couldn't. And Ceald was a long way away. His patron had no way of knowing... Greyson crumpled up the first letter and tossed it into the embers of the stove. A dazzling yellow flame came into existence, consuming the paper in a few seconds and leaving the room dimly lit once more. He set a fresh piece of paper on the table, dipped his pen in the ink once more, and began anew. Greetings from the University, I hope this letter finds you well. I apologize for not writing sooner, but I have been very busy with my studies. I am pleased to inform you that it paid off, however: I have now been admitted into the arcanum as an E'lir. Hopefully I will continue to advance in the ranks, and may return to you in good time with a guilder. As always, I thank you for your generous patronage. The University is proving to be a truly a great center of learning, peaceful and unblemished by the petty struggles and strife found everywhere else in the four corners. I will try to write sooner next time. Until then, -Greyson He folded the paper, sealed it, and resolved to pass it off to a courier the next time he was in Imre. It was settled. With still a few hours of light left in the evening, Greyson examined the stack of books on his desk. When he was expelled, he felt no particular compulsion to return them to the university archives. Particularly not the forbidden texts in the stack, which he doubted he could replace if he returned them. These could be useful. He grinned a wide, crazy grin. His studies would continue, and to hell with the chancellor.

Interesting... I'm kind of regretting that you were forced to reveal that the elim doc is not necessarily secure... But it was probably necessary to reveal this to get anyone's support, so I can't really fault you. I don't think we are so close to the end of the game that this could be a plan to end it faster, either. Too many people still alive. So... I can understand waiting to hear @Aonar Faileas defense, but if I were able to vote, I'd likely vote on him right now, and consider taking the vote off if Aonar gives a good enough explanation in time. I'd say PK's evidence looks pretty strong, and discovering the elim doc using PM spying isn't really an obvious lie if you were just trying to lynch someone. Although, @GMs, I don't suppose you would be willing to confirm that it is in theory possible to compromise the elim doc using PM spying?

You know, if I were doing this game again I think I'd have taken a very different approach. But no matter. I have comments to make about just about every post made since I last went to sleep: Lol that hadn't occurred to me. You are right, it was very likely just Mercs. I can attest to the fact that it isn't... Be lucky that you just have to make an apology. Out on the streets then. Good luck. I'll take this opportunity to remind EVERYONE to make a lodging order this turn. And also to run over to my GM PM and make one myself. Also, how can you know that one of your complaints was negated? I'm not sure I follow. But then, I wasn't really paying much attention to vote tallies last cycle. You know, last cycle we talked about your last minute voting before, and it seemed alright to me. I walked away not really planning to suspect you very much. But voting on Stink? That totally doesn't line up. I would guess that a majority of STINK's posts this game may well actually be about voting on me, which if anything you should agree with. If you really suspected me, why now do you suddenly suspect STINK now? Especially given the pretty short cases you offered in both situations, and both votes very close to the close of the cycle... I get that you don't necessarily have to trust someone who has similar suspicions as you do... But at least I would expect solid reasons to go against Stink at this point. The reason offered, however, was about two sentences about not participating. No specific examples given, even though you've apparently been reading through all of his posts right up until the end of the cycle. It feels like you are just trying to get people lynched indiscriminately at this point. I recognize that it is possible I'm biased against you for expelling me. But, truly, I don't think that's it. I really didn't suspect you before. But that vote on Stink just makes no sense. I can't vote, and don't expect I'll ever have the kind of money to afford an assassin... So my opinion on this doesn't count for much. But there it is. Oh, also. If you do turn out to be an eliminator... My bet is that Straw is also one. Because... If you were seriously going to vote on someone for looking like they were contributing but not... Wouldn't it be way easier to justify a vote on Straw? Fascinating. Aonar's basically been lurking, right? Seeing as I find it very likely that you were sabotaged, I'm inclined to trust that you are a villager. But how well do you trust your source? I find your vagueness about the source kind of worrying, even if I basically trust you.
