I have to agree that night Dalinar would have died too.

Granted that was vs stormlight and an honorblade.

Would it change anything if they both had stormlight and surges?

As far as Dalinar and Gavilar both in full shardplate and with blades I think Szeth would have had his work cut out for him without a doubt.

Dalinar with plate, blade and thrill would be a match for Szeth, especially if it was Dalinar and Gavilar

  2. I feel like Kal and Syl have a different bond then a romantic one. They're both bonded by trauma and a shared connection for helping and protecting people. They've always felt closer to two soldiers/comrades in arms that would go to hell and back for each other. They definitely love each other but in a platonic way

As far as telling kaladin to suck it up I totally agree he should.  His own self-righeous ideals about shardblades and eye color really hindered his progress throughout his life.  And yes childhood trauma is very tough to overcome but she's had the world handed to her on a silver platter the least she could do is not get her salty ass tears on the plate.  Like I said, Kaladin too.  Being broken is only a reason to not find a purpose.  If one is thrust upon you like these two have had put your petty problems and quarrels aside and sad times and do your duty. Stop making it harder on everyon else.  Also the character discovery and self journey are important, yes.  I just feel like the points that are emphasized are very irksome points and stuff that anyone else that has gone through similar problems as Kaladin and Shallan wouldn't falter where they do, instead finding more purpose than problems in the current events.

Imagine being depressed then having to save the world, I dont know if that would improve your mental health necessarily. Also being expected to risk your life, being asked to take the lives of others and also you're a paragon now so don't do anything to tarnish the reputation of your holy order of Knights.

Just saying that these are pretty broken people who have been asked to fight the god of hatred and his millennia old magical warriors. I find it hard getting out of bed some mornings

I find it very hard to believe that there was a dawnshard on the planet, but neither Ruin or Preservation used it in their very tight battle. It all depended on spook being able to hear kelsier in a dream to send a message that Marsh could read but hopefully still barely fight against ruin to pull out a DAMN EARING. The entire world depended on that earing. A dawnshard would have helped out lot somewhere i feel.

Unless Ati and Leras had a past agreement to not use the Dawnshard. I dont think Ati would be stupid enough to breach an agreement when victory was so close nor do I think a dawnshard like "Survive" would be particularly useful to him considering his Intent. Leras breaching an agreement with Ati would have spelled his doom much sooner

  5. I think part of its down to the fact that Kaladin is prone to self pity when he has particularly bad bouts of depression. Wit has the right idea with being a little harsh here, self pity doesnt help anyone.

Shallan on the other hand grew up in a toxic and abusive household, when shes in a low place, compassion and empathy helps her realise that shes not the awful person she thinks she is.

When he talks to Dalinar he doesn't for one second shrink from the atrocities of Lighteyes rule and war, pointing out the countless dead and enslaved. Dalinar needs to here these things so he can confront his own nature and actions and become a better man and leader.

Lastly with The dog and the dragon, we see Wit treat Kaladin with such incredible care and compassion. Wit knows that Kaladin is frayed incredibly thin, closer to giving up then ever before.

I think Wit knows exactly what he's doing when interacting with these flawed, often fragile beings.

  6. "I am every bit as manipulative and brutal as the monsters I aim to destroy"

    "I don't think I can win"

"I dont bear the responsibility for what happened to Adonalisium"

"Its not my responsibility to restore the Cosmere"

"I dont posess the moral high ground" maybe?

I dont know what lies a being as ancient as Hoid would tell himself. I imagine he's had plenty of time to reflect on who he is and what lies he tells himself.

So in summary I don't think that it's all that suspicious that there are so few Blades known on Roshar, and so few observed deadeyes in Shadesmar. Of the remaining physical Blades, many may just be lost in the physical world. Many are known to still be around and are in active use. Some are probably in the hands of the Skybreakers (they may not use them themselves, but Helaran's Blade came from somewhere, and was given to him by the Skybreakers). I think that it's a good guess that at least some are in Shinovar, though I am not convinced that it's as many as you suggest or for the reasons you suggest.

While logical, I think thats kinda boring for an answer. For plot purposes I could see a secret org or several secret orgs hoarding them (or even moving them off planet) for their own purposes.

(spoilers for Oathbringer) So... I'm making this post having not read Rhythm of War or Dawnshard, and maybe my concerns will be assuaged by reading those books (don't mind spoilers for any of the books btw).

Was anyone else just like very suddenly on the Singers/Listeners side with the reveal that humans on Roshar are essentially invaders?

And also feel a bit gross about Odium being nominally on the Singers side too... But also understand the desperation, and power of his manipulation. (I think hatred of your oppressors is absolutely legitimate and historically a powerful fuel for justice movements.)

I just don't see a justifiable outcome to these books at this point except for Singer sovereignty over their land returned (and no, Nightblood just because no one can own land it doesn't mean that no one can have sovereignty over it, I've seen this argument from racists too often for it to sit well with me).

I'm just very very concerned about a white author dealing with this in any way that doesn't fall into gross both-sides-ism especially when one side was colonised and enslaved by the other! Interested to hear other people's thoughts on this.

Just want to note I am speaking from my own perspective as an Indigenous person so topics like colonization really hit close to home.

Do the humans of today bear the sins of their forbears?

Much in the same way do the radiants of today bear no guilt for the abandonment of their predecessors oaths?

I wonder how these crimes will be acknowledged and Honoured by the Coalition if they are at all

  9. A couple of things.

Its plausible that Bondsmith's power suite includes a time dilation effect, we see this with the Stormfather. This negates some of the Fullborn's potential with time shenanigans which is a major advantage for them.

As an Elsecaller you could transform all sources of metal to something else and transform the air around the fullborn to aluminium.

We dont know what a dustbringer could do but division can probably vaporise a fullborn with enough stormlight, enough to overcome double Gold

And they will have enough stormlight bc of the perpendicularity

I dont think it would be a one sided fight, The Stormlight avatar would also have all powers compounded slightly bc of overlapping orders. Also they're probably a hive mind at that point with 1 person 9 high spren and 1 god spren, this gives a slight advantage on the mental side

That's what I assumed on my first read but the "femalen" part caught my attention on the second. Might be looking into it too much.

Within listener culture they refer to genders as malen and femalen, so to her perception it was a feminine voice that she assumed as femalen

  11. It seems that Dalinar is on a trajectory to lose the duel which sucks for a couple of reasons.

On of the reasons will be that Navani will be widowed again. Kinda, because her husband will be reincarnated by an evil god to be used as his world conquering Warlord. She won't be able to ignore it either now shes a Bondsmith.

Former lovers forced into war against each other by their respective God/Godess maybe?

It's an interesting situation that Brandon's setting up, one that has the potential to be so tragic.

Fused can not know everythig. I mean, Odium related beings Can do what Bondsmith can in some extend - Venli is good example, she can Connect with people like Dalinar can (and this is Spiritual Adhesion), Ba-Ado-Mishram also was able to do this, on much Karger scale even.

So this can Simply be the lie, and Odium can grant Adhesion, but don't want to, because Adhesion Fused will have possibility to Disconnect or Reconnect at will.

This makes sense more then anything. It could also be that it would give fused with Adheision the ability to make deals with shards the way bondsmiths could

If I had to guess one of the heralds I would probably point to Ishar. Taln is not sane enough and if he were to somehow have his mind cleansed I don't think he would ever give in anyways. He only broke once compared to how many times for the other heralds? He had the glimpses of sanity where it seemed like he wanted to help dalinar. But interactions with Nale among other things kind of single him out to me much more than Taln.

We dont know that he broke.

Theres a popular theory that another herald died and was sent to braize. They then broke releasing everything as well as Taln
