  1. Have we met anyone who may be on the path to becoming a Stoneward? Because if not, doesn't this confirm that the Taln we meet is indeed the Herald Talenel?
  2. Sorry, I got distracted by other things in this thread, but that makes sense. You are probably right.
  3. Is this referring to the death of the original Hoid (our Hoid's master)? Does this mean that Endowment can bring back long-dead people, not just the recently deceased as we know she does with the Returned? Also this. Relevant quote from the letter: "I’ll address this letter to my “old friend,” as I have no idea what name you’re using currently. Have you given up on the gemstone, now that it is dead?" I haven't read the unpublished novels, but does the name Topaz appear in any of them? And what does anyone think is the meaning of Topaz being dead? Is it just that people of some world "know" Topaz (Hoid's false identity) to be dead, so he can't use the name there anymore? Or was the name inspired by something related to topaz, which has now been destroyed/killed?
  4. But then this seems contradicted by this WoB So the planet was created by Adonalsium, I guess? Or by another Shard who left the planet to Honor, Cultivation, and Odium? Or the "planet was created" could be referring to a reshaping of the world like we see in Mistborn.
  5. Guess I should've done a bit more research before posting this. I think it is limited to metals as well. That is more in-line with the idea that metals have a unique interaction with Investiture (Skaa's Investiture resonance theory and such)
  6. So, you're saying that Ruin could create a similar system to Hemalurgy on other Shardworlds? Or are you suggesting that one already exists?
  7. So, this has probably been discussed before, but have we considered the possibility that Hemalurgy is not a Metallic Art? We've only seen Hemalurgy used to steal pieces of Preservation in the form of allomantic abilities and things like strength and emotional fortitude for the blessings, as well as Feruchemy, which would be a blend of the power of Ruin and Preservation. What if we've only seen metal spikes because we've only seen it interact with magic systems which use metal as a focus? Could you use gemstone spikes to steal Surgebinding abilities? Since Feruchemy is part Ruin and is a Metallic Art, it would make sense for the full-Ruin magic system to be one as well, but I wanted to make sure we'd considered the possibility that there was an error in our already fairly limited understanding of Hemalurgy.
  8. Would you mind elaborating? I don't think I understand how joy would be related to luck.
  9. Random thought. There's some level of ambient Investiture permeating the Cosmere, right? What if this is like a galactic-scale spirit web, and spiking shards, splinters, or even mortals for their investiture pokes holes in the web. Enough holes and it all falls apart. I doubt this is the case, though; I'm just spitballing possible dangers from Hemalurgy
  10. I don't really believe that it's a problem, either, but it's a possible way that Hemalurgy could be a threat to the Cosmere, so I included it in my list.
  11. You may be right Oversleep, but I think Ham had worked with many different Thugs over the years. It seems unlikely that he would have not encountered a Thug with a small build before. If Vin had manifested any unprecedented abilities, I doubt Ham would've assumed it was only because she was small.
  12. I understand that hemalurgy is more inherently "bad" than other magic systems, but if we're assuming that the practitioner has evil intentions with respect to the Cosmere, there are more effective systems of Investiture for massacres than someone going around stabbing people in the heart with metal spikes. You may be right, we don't really understand hemalurgy very well right now, but I believe that the Ars Arcanum author was worried about the possible uses for the spikes after they've been charged, or possibly the spiking of a shardholder or a splinter, if that can be done. Or the Investiture decay in spikes that others have suggested here.
  13. Burning pewter and storing strength may somewhat cancel out, but since Feruchemically pewter seems to be based on muscle mass and allomantic pewter adds supernatural strength without increasing your muscle mass, I don't believe you would be able to store much more strength. Unless Feruchemy would store the magic strength before taking from your actual muscles. Since compounding Feruchemy is so potent, you really wouldn't need to worry about finding ways to store more quickly, barring a situation where you had basically no time to generate a metalmind with a very large amount of strength.
  14. Getting back to the pewter compounding, I don't think anyone has brought up Feruchemically compounding allomantic pewter. I know that it hasn't been confirmed what the exact method of doing this is, but I would think that it would result in more allomantic strength per unit time, higher than you could get it by flaring, which could be crazy. Allomantic pewter is pretty ridiculous, and if you removed the upper limit on how much you can use at once, I think you'd be nearly unstoppable.
  15. On an individual level, yes, but I think that the Ars Arcanum referred to it as dangerous to the Cosmere. All of the magic systems can kill people, and most of them can kill more people more quickly than by just spiking as many victims as you can.
  16. Besides the phrase "ritual imprisonment of ChanGaar"? Not that I know of. ChanGaar might not even be the one who was being punished, it could be named for him/her because he/she devised the method of punishment.
  17. iBambam, are you responding to me? Because I was wondering what happened with ChanGaar, not TenSoon.
  18. I haven't read through this whole thread, so I apologize if this has been brought up before. In HoA, during TenSoon's trial, they sentence him to the "ritual punishment of ChanGaar" or something like that. This could be a bit of random worldbuilding, but I've always wondered what ChanGaar did to be the Kandra this punishment was created for. I've also been wondering if he's still in one of the prison cell pits, or if he'd escaped.
  19. I like to think that deeply tapping zinc in a fight would be like Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes fight scenes, where he plans out the whole fight before he throws a punch.
  20. There's a WoB somewhere (I'm on my phone right now or else I'd try to find it) which says that the allomantic effects of the alloys of Atium were all related in some way to time. EDIT: Got it
  21. But they mention several times that Ruin is not mindless destruction, and is willing to build something up if it means getting to destroy more. Also, Atium and all of its alloys grant time-related abilities, and we know that the allomantic power of Atium and its alloys comes from the Atium itself. Why would a Shard with a relatively weak connection to time manifest these abilities in its God metal?
  22. Unless Preservation was waaaaay better at seeing into the future than Ruin, I don't believe that he actually saw thousands of years into the future to predict exactly what was going to happen in the Era 1 books. Preservation may have set up the mists, the Well, and the prophesies in such a way that humanity had the best chance possible of succeeding against Ruin. That would be some god-tier (no pun intended) deduction, but more plausible than seeing clearly that far into the future. I think that Alendi and Vin, the two chosen by the mists, were meant to be the ones who took up the power at the Well, took in the mists to become the Preservation Shardholder, and then die to kill Ruin as Vin did. Then the true Hero of Ages, a Wordbringer/Keeper, was meant to take up the two shards and use their copperminds to do as Sazed did. Come to think of it, that may be why there was the official role of the Announcer in the prophesies; it was an attempt to make sure a Worldbringer was on hand when the two shards needed to be taken up. EDIT: possible counter to my first sentence: It's unlikely, but what if Ruin could not see into the future as well as Preservation could because the piece of his power that Preservation used to create the Pits of Hathsin was Ruin's future-sight ability, which is why Atium allomancy grants that ability.
  23. I haven't gone back to look at the prophesy, but I've always thought that some of the prophesy, especially the part about "bearing the future of the world on your arms," is meant to point specifically to a Keeper, and the rest is either corrupted by Ruin, an invention of the Terris religion, or something Preservation added to make it feel more like a prophesy and to hide the lines which point to Keepers. EDIT: Also, about the Mist Spirit; I believe that it was Preservation's plan that someone use the power at the Well and renew Ruin's prison, and then to take up Preservation while Ruin was still trapped. The Mist Spirit knew, from watching her and likely also from being able to read her thoughts, that Vin was not going to use the power, and so it was trying to delay her from reaching the Well until it could convey to her what she needed to do
  24. The reason why I thought Nightblood might be able to Awaken is that he has a Biochromatic Aura like a person with a lot of Breaths. His aura also makes colors darker and richer, rather than brighter, which is why I suggested draining to black rather than white or grey. I figured that Nightblood was converting the Breaths into something like anti-Breaths, but it may be that he converts all types of Investiture into the same corrupted form. You are probably right about needing to be human, or something similar, to Awaken though.
  25. But can't you drain color from things that aren't dyed with the Tears? They talk about the use of other dyes besides the Tears.
