  1. Sorry, my post was an attempt at a joke. I guess it didn't work out.
  2. Right, i didn't mean to imply that he ended up there for no reason, I just meant that the reason had little to nothing to do with his "purpose" there, what happened was not intended by any of the major players in the plot.
  3. Yeah, the source of all of that confusion was that I hadn't seen the WoB that the Lerasium alloys made you into a misting, which is why I didn't understand why that, and by extension the idea that they can be burned by anyone, was being assumed as fact, and so I was trying (poorly) to get a source on either this effect of the alloys or their universal burnability.
  4. Right, but this could be focusing the power of your spirit web, your allomantic potential, into one ability rather than dividing it among sixteen or, in this case, two abilities. Even though your potential for another allomantic ability predated the use of the Lerasium alloy, it would still focus your allomancy into one ability. Or it has the same problem pure lerasium has, and its the expectation of becoming that type of misting, rather than a double misting with your original ability as well, which causes this to occur (or something like that, I'm not sure if I understand how expectations relates to the powers granted by Lerasium, probably through intent). Incidentally, I wonder if burning one of the Lerasium alloys also overwrites any Feruchemical abilities you might have, or abilities from other shard worlds.
  5. Yeah, I was oversimplifying and assuming for the purposes of explaining the logic, and you might be right about the loss, but I personally believe that it would be closer to how I explained. I've been thinking of it as focusing all of the power that would normally be equally split into 16 pieces of your spirit web into one powerful piece, but I could be wrong in assuming it works like that.
  6. Right, but what Kaymyth is suggesting is that 1/16 of that bead, if alloyed with, say, steel, would make the person who burned it as powerful at burning steel as the Mistborn who used the whole, pure Lerasium bead would be, so alloying the whole bead with steel would make you 16 times as strong at burning steel than a Lerasium mistborn would be.So your choosing between having a bunch of relatively weak mistborns, or a bunch of extremely strong mistings
  7. I think that, if the Lerasium alloys come up in the text, it will be because Harmony wanted to gift someone or a group abilities, but not the full spectrum of allomancy, for fear of them becoming too much more powerful than anyone else. That could disrupt the balance, creating discord instead of harmony.
  8. Okay, looking back through my posts and the responses, I realize that I was unclear, but a WoB like this or one that outright confirmed that the alloys were universally burnable was what I was looking for. I agree that, if the alloys turn you into mistings, then they would be burnable by anyone, I just didn't know that we had confirmation that this is what the Lerasium alloys do. Thanks!
  9. What? Neither of the WoB that he posted said that the alloys turned you into a misting.
  10. But that would require either Ruin giving more of himself to help Preservation give the Terris sentience, or it would mean that the Terris don't have extra preservation and have sentience anyway, which makes me wonder why Preservation would give more of himself to the other Scadriens at all. I believe that Feruchemy came from using Lerasium in a more deliberate way. We know that it can rewrite your sDNA in more ways that just making you a mistborn, so it was either a shift of intent to endowing Feruchemy, or an alternative method to burning pure Lerasium, whether that be using it in a way other than burning it or burning it alloyed with something else. That alloy could be Atium, which would likely make you correct about the power stemming from a balance, but I don't think it came from a deliberate endowment of balanced power from be Shards when they created the Terris.
  11. With a calculating man like Vasher, it's tempting to say that he deliberately chose to end up in the position and location he did on Roshar, but we can't know for certain that it wasn't just luck or providence that brought him to Adolin and the gang, in the same way that there's no real reason behind Kaladin ending up on the shattered plains and in the perfect position to help Dalinar when he did(that I know of). Sometimes you have to chalk things up to divine will or Brandon's will. As for the choice to be a sword trainer, it seems like a natural choice, especially if it pays well (I don't remember if it does or not). What other position would give him access to as much stormlight, comfort, and agency? He could have feigned being a lighteyes, but I don't know if he can change his appearance without stopping suppressing his Divine Breath.
  12. Right, anyone can burn Lerasium, and so I understand and agree with the logic that anyone can burn it's alloys, I just don't think that these particular WoB, or ones similar, confirm that.
  13. Was the "Lerasium alloys can be burned by anyone" bit ever confirmed? I thought that was still a theory.I still think it's true, I just hadn't heard about any confirmations or otherwise.
  14. This is probably referencing the original name of the character as Brandon was first writing the book; he said in one of the annotations that he originally called the character Vancer before tweaking it to Vasher. But maybe, in reference to this change, your inscription means that Vasher's original Returned name was Vancer, or possibly even his name before he Returned.
  15. But then what do you define as magic? If someone went to the Era 1 Mistborn world and started zapping people with a taser or blasting people with a flamethrower, that would almost certainly be seen as magic. Yes, we can probably agree that, by some definitions, Investiture is magic, but in-universe it is just another type of energy which can be studied and understood like anything else. I'm also not disagreeing that Investiture is magic, especially when it is viewed from the perspective of the reader grounded in our reality, I'm trying to explain why natc was resistant to you saying that magic changes things.
  16. Is it? Reading through the scenes where Ruin takes direct control of Marsh, and so completely impresses his mindset on Marsh, it seems as good a comparison as any, if not better than most. It is called bloodlust for a reason. EDIT: I remember an annotation or a WoB where Brandon said something to the effect of a psychologist having a field day with the phallic imagery of Ruin's spikes and his use of the Ashmounts. But all that being said, I apologize if my comments made anyone uncomfortable. I stand by my original opinion, but there is plenty of room to disagree.
  17. He may have been saying that accepting that it's magic which makes you lighter means that we won't delve any further into the issue to see exactly what mechanisms, magical or not, are causing the change.Magic is often seen as a buzzword for anything that we can't understand or explain in scientific terms. I think there may have been some miscommunication going on, if that was not what you were meaning to imply.
  18. I realized that I phrased things so that near-sexual nature of the pleasure Ruin got from killing was what was evil, which was not my intent. I meant that the happiness he got from killing was obviously very potent, which is reflected in how that pleasure is shown on the page.
  19. I agree that perspective is important and it is nearly impossible to say that something or someone is objectively evil, but the perverse, almost sexual pleasure that Ruin seemed to get from killing and destroying says a lot.I can't really fault Ruin for fulfilling his intent, but unless we are saying that there is no such thing as evil, Ruin (held by Ati) might be the closest thing we've seen so far in the whole Cosmere (since we haven't really met Odium).
  20. If it can consume investiture on a larger scale than we've seen so far, it could be a useful tool to him in his battle against the other Shards. Weaken them enough to put him at an advantage, then do whatever he does to splinter them.
  21. But when you live in a world of moral absolutes, like Nightblood, Odium seems like he would be on the side of evil. Unless he somehow wasn't tempted by the sword, then Nightblood might leave him be.That'd be an interesting plot twist for a later book, actually. The protagonists position the sword so that it'll destroy Odium, or Rayse, and Nightblood just sits there.
  22. I think there's a WoB that, to store wakefulness while sleeping, it makes you sleep longer than you would have normally. So, for instance, if you would've slept for 8 hours, while storing wakefulness you'd sleep for 12.I don't know what the percentages would be there. Maybe 50% in my example? Since it increasing the length of your sleep by 50%.
  23. I thought there was a WoB, or maybe one of the epigraphs, which said that the two continents were connected, but the close proximity to the sun after Rashek moved it made it so that only the poles were habitable. Harmony could have made them two seperate continents after that, I suppose. I based this belief on these two WoB There's nothing in them which confirms that the two continents are connected, though, and I suppose someone would probably have made the journey by AoL if they were connected (or still connected).
  24. It's really just as likely that you're original analysis was correct, if not more likely, but I'm going to go on believing that VenDell's just a jerk, and not a villain, until proven otherwise. Or Kaymyth is right and he just likes being overly dramatic.
  25. Lemex's nurse? Why do you think that? It's possible, but I just went to the section and didn't see any particular reason for her to be Terris. I could see the link between her fetching bandages for Demoux in Hero of Ages and working as a nurse in Warbreaker, but that's a bit of a tenuous connection on its own.
