  1. I've finally got a copy of White Sand! I'm only about 50 pages in but I'm really liking it so far.
  2. My favorite teacher in high school used to tell us that "Great literature is meant not to be read, but to be re-read." When you re-read a book you can spot the foreshadowing, things that don't seem important suddenly are. It's a whole different reading experience. Read it once for the story, read it twice for the art.
  3. Now when I finally get around to Alcatraz, I have to read the last page first. LOL. (something I've never done before.)
  4. When I was a kiddo I read Harry Potter then the Lord of the Rings series. (Trilogy and Hobbit only) Also one summer I tried to read another fantasy novel (I think it was called Wizard's First Rule). That was the extent of my knowledge of the fantasy genre. I found that I wasn't a very big fan of traditional wizard/elf/dwarf fantasy stories. In fact if Harry Potter wasn't so finely plotted out I probably would have had issues with it as well. (By this I mean the overarching story of the Horcruxes and the fact that the story explained why the baddie kept showing up.) It wasn't until my junior year of college (2009) that my roommate decided I'd probably enjoy Mistborn. He told me it didn't have any of the traditional fantasy tropes I had learned to dislike. I was intrigued and he loaned me a copy of it. I am forever grateful that he did so. I have never been more impressed with a book series than I was with Mistborn. For the longest time I couldn't stop gushing over Mistborn long enough to actually start one of his other books. When I did start reading other books I slowly was introduced to the similarities between the stories and the Cosmere. Needless to say I will never be out of reading material for the rest of my life.
  5. That French cover is awesome.
  6. Yes, All of my shouts. LOL. This is just the sort of fun nonsense I can stand behind.
  7. Thanks for this. I think I knew about most of these from reading through the last two years worth of Sanderson Interviews, but it is so satisfying to have this information all in one location. It's like my own private coppermind on all things cosmere.
  8. 1.) Primary Power: Stopping Time Secondary Power: Future sight (Think Atium burning) 2.) Weakness: Being in the wrong place. (i.e. entering the wrong classroom.) (I actually really do have recurring dreams where this happens.) 3.) Chronomancer 4.) I tend to kill people in places where they feel safe.
  9. Thanks for this link. I remember reading it and getting excited that they were on Roshar. I guess my excitement overshadowed the rest of the comment. Consider me educated. XD
  10. After further deliberation I've come to an even better choice for Kelsier and this one comes with a Marsh! I propose David Anders for Kelsier and Paul Bettany as Marsh. Kelsier Marsh
  11. I seem to remember reading a WoB which stated that somewhere on Roshar there was a group of Kandra wandering around. Well I think I found a connection that should be considered when thinking about this...The Aimians. We know from Axies the Collector that Aimians are able to compose information onto their skin. (Like temporary tattoos!) We also have reference to Axies changing the functions of his internal organs. Aimian skin is also blue to the point that it's nearly transparent. This sounds very Kandra-like to me. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Has it been pointed out before?
  12. I've always thought Alan Tudyk would be an amazing Kelsier. Don't know how well he'd handle the physical parts but he definitely has the personality for the character.
  13. I think my big letdown with this book is that it isn't part of the Cosmere. Which is silly because I knew the series wasn't going into it. Regardless I let myself get anxious and almost had high hopes that Invocation was the name of a shard and that he was a shard from some parallel universe. (i.e. The Cosmere) I think I just have a real love for the way the Cosmere novels are put together like seven jigsaw puzzles all mixed together in a ziploc bag at a yard sale. (How's that for an Epic Simile David?) I just get so excited when I find a piece that will help me see the larger pictures. Calamity ended up being something completely unrelated...like a satsuma. I finished it and I was like...What's this satsuma doing in my bag of Cosmere goodies?! Oh Well it's still an unexpected Satsuma (which in all fairness is still pretty awesome)
  14. I have not read Brian Jacques. I've got a couple of the Redwall books in my library but I've a bad habit of buying far more books than I can possibly have the time to read. I'll get around to them eventually. Thanks for the up vote.
  15. I think that there is a lot to merit this being the case. Apart from being the only way for Elantrians to enter the cognitive realm, there is also the fact that they would continue looking as they did when they died. Because that's how they viewed themselves. This is the case regardless of if they were pre-Reod or not. (If you ascended into godhood you'd want to remain that way and if you were cursed with an inability to die you may only see yourself as this cursed being.) Your explanation also helps to explain why so few Elantrians were in the cognitive realm, especially if this was post-Reod. Cool idea.
  16. My cousins went to school for video game design and they have many big ideas for a Mistborn game. I'll let them know that there is interest in making a stormlight game as well and I'll send them your way.
  17. "I dare say, my dear man, could we possibly take a brief pause. Pulling this infernal wagon has upset my bad hip. And as I always say a chull with a bad hip is like a parshman with an uncivil tongue." *guffaw*.
  18. That would be a cool thing to see as the tech level becomes more advanced. It would definitely add to the worldbuilding. If you've never seen the cartoon "The Legend of Korra" they do a similar thing in a scene where one of the characters uses his powers at a powerplant in order to make a little extra cash. It's a neat little touch I think adds to the plausibility of how the world would function.
  19. I work at a school and while at work I frequently find myself thinking "if only I could get these kids more interested in the subjects they are studying". Science for example is an exceptionally interesting subject that it seems some students just don't share my appreciation for. That's when I came up with an amazing idea. What if I burned brass and rioted their curiosity. Suddenly I'd have a classroom full of students who actually wanted to learn everything I needed to teach them. And if my classroom aid was a Soother they could be burning zinc in the back of the classroom, dampening their rambunctiousness...osity? So here's the game, If you could apply a single allomantic ability (i.e. you're a misting) to a job what do you think the best combos of allomantic abilities and jobs would be.
  20. I'm the exact same way. All of my friends are always posting really interesting reddit articles and I have no clue how to work it.
  21. Someone on this forum I('m not entirely sure who it was) brought it to light that Set, Sequence, Suit...could all be playing card terms. Kelsier states in the Secret History that he was always good at card tricks. Perhaps Kelsier is controlling/leading the Set.
  22. I'm waiting on the compilation of Alcatraz books. I'm really excited to read them but the Cosmere books take precedence over everything else I am completely entranced with the way Sanderson is jigsawing his storytelling.
  23. I wonder if it may have something to do with the Elantrians on Sel not dying and the shades that wander around on Threnody. Perhaps the Shades are the missing spiritual aspects of the Elantrians...or something like that. Don't know I'm just spitballing.
  24. I was pretty convinced it was just Kelsier back from the dead somehow. (I was just going to accept it.) Then you came along and logic-ed it into making sense. You did great in picking out a theory like this, and Mr. Brandon Sanderson did great in creating a magic system that is so much like science one doesn't have to just accept facts.
