Aren't some of the flashback characters in the back 5 going to be the heralds? The man who thinks that he is Taln, and the other female herald who destroys art (can't remember her name at the moment)? Aren't their lives much longer than Dalinar? How many chapters is it going to take to write their backstory? 25 minutes to go!

*attunes questioning* Something just occurred to me: has anyone noticed if there are a limited number of rhythms that the Parshendi can attune to, or is there an unlimited number of rhythms, just like there are an unlimited variation of emotions? Or is each rhythm connected with a surge, or a Spren, or an Unmade, the Ten fools, or something along those lines?

I like how carefully you analyzed the interesting turns of phrase... it helped me look at it from a different light. This quote is fascinating. It makes me wonder if the Parshendi were partially in a different realm (Cognitive, maybe?) and so from their side, humans were only dark and formless. It's also interesting, how Gavilar says the Parshendi used to be vibrant, while humans used to be Radiant. It almost sounds like vibrant should be capitalized, Vibrant, just like how Radiant is a term too. No ideas on this front, but this quote definitely makes me think that one of the prologues will be from Gavilar's perspective. Any thoughts on what the chapter name will be? My money's on "To Die". I think it would also be interesting if one of the chapter titles was "To Despair", but is that too similar to "To Weep"? I also found a quote that I thought interesting. When Eshonai says that Gavilar didn't know, what is that referring to? Is there a deeper significance to the rhythms that imparts a knowledge that we are as yet unaware of? Gavilar doesn't know that there is a scary god who is trapped, but his or her rhythms resonate throughout the world? He didn't know how terrible their gods were? Or am I reading to much into the one line, and it just means that Gavilar didn't know how terrified she was?

I was hoping that there would be more to the prologue than what we've seen already. While there is more detail, in broad strokes it is the same prologue that we've already seen. I think this is a much stronger prologue than the previous two, but it's probably because it has the foundation and world building of two entire books ahead of it. I found Jasnah's prologue from WOR a little strange, as the things told from her POV didn't really shed much insight on the evening. Her first attempt at soul casting, and the hiring of the assassin, while interesting, seem tangential to the main event, the assassination of Gavilar. This one allows us to see the motivations of the Parshendi, and allows us to see how spur of the moment everything was to them. Now, the question is, who set up the pieces that made it possible for them to assassinate Gavilar? Did someone maneuver Szeth into place? How do the mysterious heralds who show up that evening fit into everything?

Full Edgedancer Reaction Thread [Edgedancer Spoilers]

I just thought of something. If Lift's request was to stay the same while the world changes around her... maybe the Nightwatcher ignored the first half of the request and heard the second. Now she changes the world around her. And one way is to transfer food from her stomach into the cognitive realm, and moving investiture into the physical realm. I'm not sure if I'm making sense or not... -
Just FYI, Theoryland is blocked in my country (Taiwan). I have to turn on a proxy in order to access the site. I thought the site was down, but since no one else was complaining about it, I tried turning on my proxy.

Listening to Brandon's Q&A sessions at his signings has made me realize that one reason he's so productive is that he is so good at focusing on what he personally needs to do, and finding talented people who believe in his vision that he trusts to help him manage and do other things. Like, the way that he often just leaves blanks in his manuscript, and says, "Peter, figure out how many spheres this should be", so that he can concentrate on writing. And I certainly understand why they need as much time as possible for the next stormlight book, considering how much editing and artwork and collaborating is needed. It really is quite ridiculous how much stuff is in that book.

I helped for a couple of the questions before I went to bed as a way to relax, so your welcome! Also, I think it's helpful to add in his emotions whenever he says RAFO so that we know which questions are on the right track.

Oh that's right. Man, I was so close to solving it without even figuring out that the code was based on the other epigraph. I figured that the words "the Knights Radiant" had to be in there somehow, because of the other epigraph, and based on that, I almost figured out which numbers were what. The only thing was that I thought that the first word was Hoid, not hold.
-
If that's the code, I believe there are two extra 1s in, each after the number 17. Am I crazy, or did I misunderstand something?
-
Okay, so something that stood out to me is that a couple of times in the book, the words "The key is the knights radiant" came up. In one of the epigraphs, it mentions that "They will come you cannot stop their oaths look for those who survive when they should not that pattern will be your clue." Also, when Shallan is trying to unlock the portal, she also mentioned that the key was the knights radiant. Thus, I decided I would try to see if I could find a place within the code that the words "The knights radiant" would appear. Based on that assumption, I assumed the following. 10=t 11=h 12=e 14=a 15=r 7=s 25=d 34=n h18dthese49retthat215hsh2 the171n483htsrad4ant 916a9a9need4tte5est r19thene55h5ders55henthesr et615n The place that seemed to best fit "The knights radiant" was in the middle of the section. The thing that makes it a little complicated is that I can't figure out how "i" would fit in. In order for it to work out, 483 would somehow have to represent "ig", while 4 would need to represent "i". I'm not sure if I'm splitting the numbers at the correct locations. I have a rough rule that I'm toying with is that numbers 1-3 mean that it is a double digit number, any number that is 5 and above is a single digit number. But I can't quite make it work throughout the entire diagram. If you follow that rule in splitting the numbers, it would look like this. (The only place that I can't make this theory work is in the three highlighted locations) 11 18 25 10 11 12 7 12 4 9 15 12 10 10 11 14 10 21 5 11 7 11 2 10 11 12 171 34 4 8 3 11 10 7 15 14 25 4 14 34 10 9 16 14 9 14 9 34 12 12 25 4 10 10 12 5 12 7 10 15 19 10 11 12 34 12 5 5 11 5 25 12 15 7 5 5 11 12 34 10 11 12 9 15 12 10 6 15 34 In any case, even if my theory is totally wrong, I tend to think that 10 11 12 is definitely "the". What do you guys think?

I think we have a hint in one of Shallan's drawings. In chapter 30, Shallan is spacing out and draws So that means Yalb is alive, and then-- So, either this could be Jasnah recreating her body, or this could be her preparing her fake body to fool the ghostbloods. Any thoughts?
-
Actually, he got Rothfuss' LAST book early, not the next one. I don't think Rothfuss has finished enough of the third book to be passing out early copies to authors.
-
I'm listening to Jasnah's excerpt, and it's definitely longer now. The document has been locked from editing, so I can't help out with it yet.
-
There is an exception to the evil rule... Conflux. He isn't really that evil, is he? I've finished the book already, and I'm kind of sad. How many more months until March?

Once the files are transcribed, should someone lock the google docs to prevent them from being edited anymore? I just went back to look at the Dalinar vision, and I was confused because the accuracy of the transcript had dramatically decreased. I looked through the history, and discovered that at a certain point, someone deleted a large section of the transcript, and the people who attempted to retype the transcript had trouble understanding what Brandon was saying. I restored it to its earlier version, but perhaps we should try to prevent something like that from happening again.

The prologue for Steelheart has just been posted. It's perfect timing really—just when you finished enjoying one Brandon novel, you can then start eagerly anticipating the next one. http://www.avclub.com/articles/heres-an-exclusive-first-look-at-brandon-sanderson,97785/ It definitely is a gruesome world, but the imagery of Newcago and the idea of a steel city built on Lake Michigan is pretty spectacular. I wonder if it was the fact that David's father was trying to protect Steelheart that made it possible for the bullet to actually hurt him? Kind of the "Power of Love" idea.

I bought the ebook, and I finished the book a couple hours after I received it. I always feel guilty about how fast I read books, especially when it has taken the author so much longer to write it. I liked the ending, but it does make me a little nervous. How many series is Brandon juggling now? Wax and Wayne, Stormlight, Alcatraz, Steelheart, Rithmatist, Elantris... that's a lot! Oh, and it was cool for me to finally understand WHY the original book was called "Scribbler".
-
Woohoo to Rithmatics! may the best scholar win!

Wow... there's so many good questions here. Since it's probably going to take you a really long time to answer, I'll stick with something simple that's been bugging me. Since allomancy is powered by burning metal, isn't Scadrial going to eventually start running out of metal? Hmmm... is that why there's a space trilogy? They have to mine asteroids and other planets for their metal?

REPORT: Signing with Brandon and Peter Orullian

What I would like to know is what the people on Scadrial will do when they run out of metal. Everyone burning metals all the time... the planet's got to run out sooner or later.
