  1. This is my guess. We know in the future there is at least one Mistborn. So either Sazed granted someone the powers again and their descendent became a serial killer, or a group of people bred one. Considering Sazed seems to not want Mistborn around (somewhere in some text there was comment that he thought they had too much power) I don't think he randomly changed his mind. Also, as you've stated, if they were simply breeding an army (a la Straff Venture) it would be ideal to mix the two bloodlines. One thing I was wondering through reading AoL, is why the Set thinks the Mistborn will work for them? I suppose brainwashing of some kind but that can still backfire. Also, it's a very long term goal which gives some insight into their actual goals (assuming that breeding a Mistborn is just for the sake of gaining a powerful tool). And if they want a revolution, they're being much more careful about it than our friends in FE. My guess is that the goal isn't simply to tear down a government (FE) but to switch it with a new one.
  2. That was my understanding. Ruin's influence made them love destruction. And if you look at the annotation quote from Pechvarry it seems as though hemalurgy will steal one of two things: allomantic power or the pure power of Preservation. If it steals allomancy it wont twist a person as much, but if there is no allomancy to steal, then it steals the aspect of Preservation in someone and twists them. If you look at inquisitors, their spikes stole only/mostly allomantic powers and therefore did not effect them as much. Marsh was able to resist most of Ruin's influence at the very beginning, if I recall--it was near the end that he changed. Also, remember, Marsh was still himself (for the most part mentally), but because of the large amount of spikes in him Ruin was able to control his body against his will. Now look at koloss. The spikes in them where much smaller and fewer in number, but they lost most of their humanity when created/spiked. This was because the spikes were not used to steal allomantic abilities and thus stole pieces of Preservation's power that is in everyone.
  3. Yeah, Brandon states that Ruin has less control over people/creatures when experiencing extreme emotions:
  4. My guess is that perhaps a person's allomantic potential is what determines what kind of misting they become. Perhaps if they have a very small allomanic potential they become an atium misting because of atium's nature (being Ruin's body and all). This way instead of a scale of 1% - 16% there is maybe a scale of 100% to say 20 to 30%. 100% means mistborn, and anything below equates to being some form of misting.

  6. Haha, wow serious typo. "The Words of Founding had even included a lengthy explanation of Trellism and its teachings, which proved men like Miles were special." My initial thoughts when reading the broadsheet was that it was just hype to sell the paper and it's going to turn out that there was nothing special about the metals at all. Kind of like "Have we found the Arc of the Covenant?! Stay tuned to find out." And at the very end of the hour long program they go "Oh, guess not!" However, if it is not simply a case of hype, then I agree with you Chaos. Real mystical objects from across the sea never bode well, ha.
  7. So is the Broken One Odium?
  8. Makes sense. I like it. If Odium doesn't use his power to fuel magic systems and/or life, it would make sense that he would be "more powerful" than the other Shards simply because he hasn't spread himself out at all. All of his energy could be concentrated onto whatever task he was preforming, unlike the Shards defending themselves from Odium's attack who would only have the power they hadn't already invested left.
  9. I may be wrong, but couldn't Vin hear the well even when she wasn't wearing her earring? Or was it when her bronze was off? I don't recall. I assumed that she could hear it because the Well had chosen her. I agree with Darius. The ghosts were supposed to be the Mist Spirit. Besides, Ruin wouldn't attack Alendi on his was to release the power--that's what he wanted. Preservation was the one who attacked him because he knew Alendi was manipulated into the wrong course of action by Ruin, and was trying to stop him.
  10. Chp 11: Does anyone else think this is related to the Shards? We know there are 16, and the Everstorm possibly refers to when all the things in the cosmere come to a head.
  11. Apparently I'm in the mood for reaching far. Miles' last words involved "men of golf and red," he smoked "Citizen Magistrates" the packaging of which was in a gold and red box, and in HoA there was that whole mess with "The Citizen" who wore red and talked about superiority. Although the Citizen said that normal humans were above allomancers, we know he thought otherwise (his sister, "count the skulls"). Maybe in some weird way it's connected with that? But it is a bit of a stretch. Also, just came across the part again where Miles talks about Trell. "Why had Trell make men like him, if not to see wrongs righted? The Words of Founding and its teachings, which proved men like Miles were special." So I guess it wasn't Trelagism? Maybe a branch off of the original religion? For I'm assuming both were listed by name in The Words of Founding--at least that's how Miles makes it sound. Yes, there was those people down by the sea that Vin killed some of when she spun the planet. In terms of the Nahlezan, they were said to be dead 1,000 years or so, but perhaps that did't include the people by the sea. My question is: did they die at the end of HoA, or did some live and we'll encounter them when the people of Elendel expand south enough?
  12. Good point. So are we thinking PBA is another shard? Or someone like Hoid?
  13. Haha, that would certainly be interesting. I just assumed the Rust part of "Rust and Ruin!" was because of its effects on metal; however, I'm not at all surprised that it could be much more. Honestly, with Brandon, I should've known ; ) I don't believe it's another Shard, but it is interesting that there is a link between "Rust" and the Trell religion. I don't remember much about the religion, other than the stars are supposed to be the eyes of Trell.
  14. It wouldn't be hard to draw upon more elements. They wouldn't be completely classical, but it could still be done and stay true to the theme. Wind, Fire, Water, Earth, Lightning, Ice maybe. Or perhaps five are classical elements and five are something else. I think the entropy in Awakening would affect the objects awakened. The breaths are the energy where as the objects being used are the "machines" which accumulate entropy? My guess is you can only awaken an object so many times, but as long as you are able to regather all of the breaths, there is no loss there.
  15. Makes perfect sense to me, and is very logical. I think it would be fair to say that we can safely assume y=256 and x=4096 as you've said. Also, if the mistborn world had approximately 365 days in a year as we do, this would mean that the Elendel Daily has been running daily for a little over 22 years. Seems realistic. Might I be as bold to say we've cracked the number code?? ; )
  16. I agree with Mad_Scientist. From the wording of the letter it would seem that whomever is being addressed is in some way or another in charge of the 17th Shard. What I wonder is if the Person Being Addressed is so intent on not intervening why would he create/lead a group such as the 17th Shard? Seems like someone who isn't afraid of intervening would do.
  17. It could certainly be fun if the atium alloys simply switched the in/externality of a metal. It makes more sense than my first guess of simply changing all metals into external metals, and you make a great point on its practicality/usefulness in terms of space travel. One thing that was bothering me was what about electrum?? An electrum-atium would just be atium wouldn't it?
  18. Thanks (=
  19. We know know that there are 16 base metals, two god metals, and 16 alloys to each god metal. We know what the 16 base metals are, and what powers they hold, as well as that each Lerasium alloy makes a non-allomancer a misting of that alloy (i.e. lerasium-steel alloy makes a steel misting). What I wonder is what the various atium alloys do. First some groundwork. We know that metals are grouped externally and internally. Steel&Iron v Pewter&Tin. Zinc&Brass v Bronze&Copper. etc. My thought is that atium and lerasium are likewise paired. Lerasium and its alloys all effect the burner themselves (internal) whereas atium--and its one known alloy--are external metals. We know that (at least sometimes) when alloyed with atium, an internal metal becomes external (gold to malatium), but how would atium affect a metal that is already external? And does the gold-malatium change hold? Do all internal metals simply become external when alloyed with atium, or not necessarily? I'm not sure if there is already a thread on this, if so sorry for repeating, but I'd like to hear people's thoughts on the matter.

    Bloody Tan

Electrum is like atium but instead of showing you a bunch of shadows of what the other guy is going to do, it shows you a bunch of shadows of what you are going to do. From my understanding it's main usage is simply counteracting atium. If I remember correctly Vin used it only when she thought her enemy was burning atium. In reference to the rioting/soothing ideas typically we see their emotions being pulled/pushed even if the character doesn't realize what is happening to them (think Marasi in the epilogue). My thought is that it was either some sort of twisted divine intervention or the usage of some unknown metal. Brandon said that Tan wasn't an atium misting, but perhaps he was a misting of one of atium's alloys.
  21. My understanding was that the well was created when Preservation betrayed Ruin because with it he built Ruin's prison. In the books it said that creating the well/entrapping Ruin stole most of Preservation's mind, so I don't think it was around before hand.
  22. This idea makes some of the most sense to me. It would explain why there was a Lerasim bead at the well when Vin and Elend were there (all ways bothered me. Seemed to be a bit of a stretch that TLR just "missed" one). So by this theory, we just have to go back and see how many beads TLR gave out to his "friends" and then you have an approximation of how many centuries ago the well was created. Does anyone recall? I think it was six or so, which would be right around what Chaos is saying.
  23. Now, I must ask: How did you get 122? Because the numbers I see are "? 15 ? 6 16 10." The problem is with a true base 16 system, the only digits that can be used are 0 to 15. So the 16 there messes that up. Unless it's more like the roman numerals in terms of being positional; however, without other examples we can't determine what the positions and values represent.
  24. You may be reading too much into it, but I love your theory. It makes a lot of sense and it's extremely cool. And the spike in the prologues being zero because it's just Ruin makes a lot of sense as well. The spike is useless if you have no one to stab it through/put it into. Now, about replacing the symbols we don't know from the broadsheet with "v" and "i" seems logical, but isn't pewter "i"?
  25. I'm also certain that there is a pattern in terms of how the symbols are assigned their letters, so it would interesting/useful to break it and possibly figure out the other letters. One note to point out: In terms of the fantastic image discipleofhoid posted (could you post a link to the page you found it? I'd love to look at it there and see what BS said about it), atium is replaced with cadmium and malatium with bendalloy. Not sure the significance other than it makes sense being that the people during AofL don't know about atium or its alloys. Thoughts?
