  1. My idea is that the brother isn't vanished- he's the Shardbearer that Kaladin killed. The timeline matches up, and there's Ghostblood involvement in both cases. Plus, I think this is the "Adonalsium-like death" that we fans could figure out. Someone's got an official theory on it. I'll see if I can find it. Here it is! It's Cheese Ninja's theory.
  2. Keep in mind that the Shin see rocks as Holy. They likely have a reason for that. It may not be a very valid reason, or it may be a very valid reason, but they do have a reason. Maybe this is connected to it. And I don't know. If my little sister, who I care about, gave me something that she thought was special, I would smile, and would cheer up. Don't discount the fact that this could just be a family loving moment.
  3. Just a note, though I'm not sure I agree with your theory. Nohadon doesn't mention spren. He does mention a "Nahel Bond", but no spren. I think. I'm pretty sure.
  4. Also, I'll write this here, since I don't know that I wrote it elsewhere. When I showed him the images, he smiled and nodded. He said that there is some significance to it, but it is also just an easter egg for us to find. But Brandon was glad that it had been noticed, and said that there's quite a bit that is hidden in Way of Kings that he hasn't revealed yet. (From the Mistborn RPG signing)
  5. Adonalsium as a planet. That's a new one. If Adonalsium was a planet, does that mean that people lived on it? Possibly, considering that we know that people took up the leftover pieces of Adonalsium, which implies that they were there, and since we haven't seen any evidence of space-faring yet, that means they had to be on the planet. Unless they were just on the Shadesmar of Adonalsium. That's a possibility. So Adonalsium shatters, whether from a physical event or a spiritual one, and breaks into sixteen pieces. As the planet breaks, the cognitive/spiritual aspect of the planet breaks too. Humans take up the Shards, then go off to various planets. So does that mean that those chunks of planet are still there? Possibly. Maybe. But where else would they go? Scadrial doesn't have a moon. Maybe the shards take it with them? And crash into the planet? Which has been proposed (to some extent) to explain Odium and the Shattered Plains. But a 16thish of a planet is MASSIVE. It seems it would be likely to obliderate a planet, or at least make it uninhabitable for millions of years. So probably not take it with them. But then again, Roshar has moons. It has 3 moons if I remember correctly. And 3 (ish) shards. So maybe that is it. Huh. That's interesting, for sure. I'm still more likely to say that Adonalsium was a entity similar to a Shard, but with much more power. But definitely interesting.
  6. Hey! Welcome to 17th Shard. We're glad you're back!
  7. I would choose Twinborn. Allomantic Steel, Feruchemy Copper. Get anywhere I want, and remember everything. I mean that test that I'm worried about? Just memorize that chapter for the test. That class I'm going to be late to? Just grab some pennies and get going! It would be great. Although if I couldn't have Copper, I'd probably have Connection (Chromium? Duralumin). I mean spend my online hours, or hours studying, storing connection, than use it when talking and interacting with people.
  8. I think it's the basic line thing that is the problem. When the cursed Shaod started to change people, the Aon would start the reaction, would start the connection with the Dor- but it wouldn't finish it. It couldn't. It was missing a line. Usually, when you make a mistake, it won't let you open that connection to the Dor, and so the Aon- and the connection- just collapses. But when it is just peculiar enough to start the reaction, to start the change (whether with healing or the Shaod) but not finish it, that's when we get the cursed Elantrians. The connection is still there, still keeping the Elantrians alive, but it never finishes. It keeps them, like is mentioned, in a frozen state.

So I'll post this here, but Peter just said that J.C. from the book is meant to resemble Jayne Cobb/John Casey (aka Adam Baldwin).
  10. So Brandon recently announced that anyone who bought a physical copy of the book gets a free ebook. Pretty nifty, huh? All you have to do is email him at ebooks(at)brandonsanderson.com, with either a copy of your receipt, or with a picture of you with your book. Brandon (or Peter or someone) will then email you a copy of the book in epub and mobi format. Perfect for those of you who (like me) still haven't gotten their physical copy shipped to them yet, but really really want to read it. Here's what Brandon had to say about it:

  12. I agree. I've thought that way for a while now, especially since the Power of Creation that Brandon mentions powering Allomancy sounds pretty similar to the Dor in Elantris. Chaos (among others) believe that the Power of Creation is more of a type of power, saying that the power comes from the Shard itself, but it seems to me that a bajillion allomancers using their power would make Preservation incredibly incredibly weak.
  13. I think that only end-positive magics can be detected using Bronze. Meaning that only magics that draw upon the power of Creation can be detected. So Allomancy, (duh) Shards, and AonDor. Definitely not Awakening, hemalurgy, Feruchemy, or ClayShan. Would Returned or Elantrians show up? I say no to Returned, since they get energy once from Endowment, but yes to Elantrians and since they get a steady stream of energy from the Dor. Now for Rosharian magic. I don't really know. I think that Stormlight is mystical enough that it is sttored Power of Creation, so you couldn't detect someone using it. But I to think a Bronze Allomancer would go crazy during a Highstorm. Here's how I'm going to explain it. Imagine you have a Photosynthesis detector. It wouldn't detect when you're burning wood. That's how I see Rosharian magics (so far).
  14. Face! That's what it is! I knew Fake didn't make sense! I just just barely did translated the same thing. We'll end up closing one of these. Or merging them. I'll take care of it. Edit- I'll merge them. So as I was looking around today, I saw Peter tweet this: So, I went to go investigate. I was pretty sure it wasn't on Brandon's posts, so I checked his about, (nothing), his photos (nothing) And his pictures. When I looked at his pictures there was some fan art, and some stuff he had put up (like the Feruchemical Table), but nothing suprising- All that stuff had gone up on Facebook too. Then I looked at his Banner pic. And I saw Alethi and the Steel Alphabet. (It's covered by Brandon's head in his profile view). So, I started translating. With the help of Harakeke's and My documents, translated the Alethi (with some help from the Steel Alphabet when I realized it was much easier to recognize than Alethi). Are you ready? Here's what it says: "Big Fake Face Goes Here. No Peeking." Yep. That's what's there. It's that cool. (Though I'm not quite sure what the second word is. It seems off to me, but it's the only thing that fit). Fire Arcadia showed me it was Face, not Fake. This whole process reminded me that I need to make a English-to-Alethi document for the Steel Alphabet. Probably using this image.
  15. I would like to announce that I'm now a manager at an ice cream place. Hoorah for dollar raises!
  16. Brandon really likes Ebooks. He'd *like* to make it so that if you buy a physical copy of one of his books, you get the ebook free. (But that's a different conversation, and he was troubled by the logistics). But from what I've heard, there should be ebooks of Emperor's Soul (and probably Legion). I know there's a audiobook for sure for Legion. They should be out at about the same time as the books, but if they are late, it will be because of logistics/formatting, not for more hardcover sales (like the WoT delay is more like). For Alcatraz, that's a story. Alcatraz has been/is in the process of being bought out by Tor from Scholastic. Tor plans to rerelease them in a year or two (with good distribution and better covers), and I would imagine that ebooks would come out then too. After that the 5th Alcatraz will come out too. Unless, as Brandon has been thinking recently, he just writes it and puts it online on his website. He mentioned it once somewhere. Online maybe? We'll see. Edit- (Wow, I really like using parentheses/slashes).
  17. I think that it is more the fact that Elend had faith in Vin, and so, like Kelsier and Spook, Vin could reach out and talk with him. Or at least that's what makes the most sense to me. EDIT- Just like Morsk said above. It might be in the annotations? I don't know. I don't think Brandon ever explicitly states that there are two form of mentalness going on.
  18. Chaos, not only do you teach a class, your class is completely full. Well done.
  19. I don't know. Hoid seems a little desperate for a lesson, and the fact that Adonalsium "Shattered" and that the Shards are considered "pieces" of Adonalsium, I think she/he/it might be destroyed. Which would make it hard to be put back together, even if there are people trying to put it back together. I mean what happens to the magic systems? I don't know.
  20. I don't think he literally means vaporized. I think he means they are obliderated, done away with, destroyed, etc. Which seems silly to me, because it seems there's a TON more power in a tablespoon of matter-energy in iron than you get allomantically from it, which seems that Allomancy is really wasteful. But maybe matter-energyness works differently in the cosmere. Or I might be misunderstanding him.
  21. Yes. Make "a dragon is the recipient" official. I think it's a good idea.

  22. Yes, the answer to the first one is that it gets "consumed" to turn into a gateway for the Power of Creation. Let me find the quote:
  23. The Shattering was originally a term used by... Miyabi? He was quoting Brandon when he said "Hoid was at the Shattering". Brandon recently confirmed that quote when this happened: "Zas: How about a confirmation one? We have a secondhand report from Miyabi actually, that says that Hoid was at the Shattering of Adonalsium. Was he there? Brandon: Yes he was. " So he didn't use it, but he didn't correct me.
  24. I'm with Windy on this one. Especially if you look at this quote: Pretty fantastic, huh? So yes, all things (even inanimate things) have some form of "thoughts". At the very least, this includes some semblance of self-identity (as we see with the Goblet), but I bet that a tree would also include things like "Roots should go here. There's more water there." or "If I grow taller, I'll get more sunlight." I bet some would argue that those things are just natural responses from stimuli and genetics, but I bet Realmatically that this would be included in a living creature's cognitive presence.
  25. I don't know. Factually, it makes sense, but storytelling wise, I think that would be sad, to lose Syl. Since Kaladin's personality is so powerful, I think it might overwhelm most of the aspects of Syl's personality if their minds did merge. Plus, what would that do to Shallan? Although maybe we can say her Truthspren aren't fully developed (and maybe things are different for her).
