Actually, I am quite certain this is the number that survived, out of 8,000. Thus, 5,347 was how many died at the battle. Edit: The woman who is killed for spilling drinks in Wit's story to Kaladin?

I like to have both, when reading at home it is nice to have a full book, but it is just too convenient to be able to pop out my iphone and read the book while on the bus, or during a slow time at work.

Spinner 100%. OP is right, the possibilities are just too powerful to ignore. To everyone who is saying storing is dangerous, this could be true, but it just means you can't store it at too high a rate. As long as you keep it reasonable you should be safe. Besides, you would only need short burst of it anyway, I can think of VERY few situations where you would need extended luck. Edit: I guess having extended luck might be useful when going into surgery I wonder if that would actually aid someone trying to help you (like a surgeon), rather than only affecting you.

Askthepaperclip, if you don't want to sit though that long I just mute the video, every time I catch up to him I jump 2-3mins ahead. Each video takes around 4mins-ish.

There is a line somewhere late in the book where Kaladin says something along the lines of "But taking the Shards still turned his stomach" Don't have a page number though.

It wouldn't make a compounder, because that implies a continuous process where the allomancer can burn the metalmind, and store some of this extra healing/whatever in a new metalmind. It would (mabye) mean that a gold misting could burn gold purchased from the feruchemist, getting healing abilities, with 10X the healing that the feruchemist put into the metalmind. However it wouldn't make an infinite loop the way compounding does, the feruchemist still needs to spend time sick, which a compounder would never have to do.
-
I think people have postulated this before (at least I have heard references to it) but as far as I know Brandon hasn't commented on it. Unfortunately with much fewer feruchemists able to store multiple attributes, it might be awhile until we find out. But I agree, it definitely has interesting implications if it works.

It certainly seems possible that Shallan could lightweave, but I personally think that it is probably Sigzil, seeing as he was already Hoid's apprentice.
-
Are you surprised to hear that because it is true, or because you have no idea what he is talking about?
-
Haha, I like this idea. Real question, is can he store his "godly" strength in some way? because I don't think even a thousand years of human strength would damage another shard, but a large amount of shard power? that would be something else entirely.
-
I have to say I like this idea. Do you guys think it's possible these are what the Desolations were? The older Desolations being races that now have their own kingdoms, the one 4500 years ago being the Parshmen(same type as the current servants), and then Odium left some on their own world, where they developed into the Parshedi (spelling crappy, no book on hand), and now they are the current Desolation? Even if this is not the full Desolation, it could be kinda of a precursor war that weakens humanity then the Thunderclasts and other shinnangins comes in later.

I doubt that Restares is Taravangian, considering Galivar lists both of those as possible murderers seperately. Plus, Amaram clearly knows Taravangian is a ghostblood, but seems to be on friendly terms with Restares

Well Of Ascension Chapters 2-3
Ness commented on Child Bahkbar's blog entry in First time reading The Well Of Ascension
I must admit I am enjoying reading this. Big fan of the Wheel of Time re-read on Tor, so it is nice to have something somewhat similar on the mistborn series. Especially from the POV of a new reader. -
To be fair, they did just invent automobiles. Do you think they would notice a space-time rupture? unlikely
-
If Amaram was nobody significant, than why in the world does he know about the ghostbloods? It's clearly not common knowledge.
-
Yeah, I got that it would ceate a very powerful Nicrosil misting, just pointing out that that would not be that useful, at most it would allow the one they are touching to have momentatiarly increadibly great power

In addition to Sir-read-alots comment on customs redarding assassination, lets take a look at that custom. Wear white so they see you coming. Seems to me like they do that because being stabbed in the back is a very dishonorable thing to do as well as a dishonorable way to die. idk if it supports the theory but it does give them more connection to Honor.

One of the most interesting things to me in Alloy of Law was in the Ars Arcanum (The list of metals and describtions at the end of the book). I know alot of people are wondering about what exactly Investiture does, and I think I have come up with a fairly solid theory. (Note, this is all basically guesswork, as we will not know until Brandon tells us). Things we KNOW about Investiture: 1. It is stored via Nicrosil. 2. Few people understand what it does, even amoung its users 3. The Three Metalic Arts are "prime manifestations" of Investiture. 4. Finally, Investiture exists in a different form on Sel, and is "form based" From point 3 and 4, we can conclude that Investiture is related to the various forms of "magic" or ablitities present in the Cosmere. From point 2 we can conclude that its use is not always clear to its users, but also from point 2, we can see that SOME users do see what it is capable of. We have seen this before, Duralumin mistings would not recognize their power because it requires burning other metals. Now the average "Soulbearer" only has access to storing Investiture, so he would not see what it does. However, a Twinborn, which are very rare, may explain the few who understand what it does. Now, we know Investiture is related to the forms of "magic" and it is plausible for the reasons shown about that Twinborns may be the ones recognizing it, which leads us to believe that it affects their other power somehow. I believe that Investiture when being stored decreases your "strength" in your allomantic ablilities, and while you tab it increase these same ablilities. (There is also the potential that they could increase power in other forms of Investiture in the Cosmere, but even if that is the case it will not be relevent for some time). This could explain TLR massive difference in power compared to Vin and Kelsier, he could be compounding Investiture and applying it to any of his metals. Note, this would not be to overpowered in the current age, as to compound Investiture would be nearly useless, due to what its allomantic pair does. As far as I can see, there are no gaping holes in this theory (aside from the incredabily low amount of information we have) but if anyone has anything to add, or sees something I missed that discounts my theory I would be interested to hear it.

While the theory of cadium to put a crew in effective statis would potentially work, it is not truely FTL travel, so i think this theory is undoubtly the best one. The "also" isn't even really needed, as there is no space or time, there is only space-time. Bendalloy cannot be bending one without bending the other (in someway).
-
Yep, I get it now, it could work. But think about if they can make very small moving bubbles. They haven't had much use for stationary small bubbles, so we don't know if small ones are possible, but a small bubble passing though your body that deflects small objects? Could certainly be fatal to the correct regions of the body.

Interesting! The dad, the cop, and steris were all out of sight long enough for them to be Kandra'd, and none of the are allomancers, so they wouldn't be exposed easily. I would guess Steris, as she is perfectly placed to spy on Wax, plus it gives Wax a way out of the marriage when it is discovered. However, Steris acts differently than normal after the rescue, which to most would seem suspicious, but Kandra in Vin's age were much better at acting than that, so who knows?
-
Just confused i guess on what the bubble is bound to here, is it Wayne himself? I just think someone (on scardwhatever) would have thought of that already, considering it takes away pretty much the only downside to their ability. (edit): I think I get it now. Not sure if it would work, still seems like they would know bout it, but it does have awesome implications. You could run at someone, activate the bubble, and effectivly "shoot" the bubble at them. I assume such an experience unexpected would be very disorienting, not to mention distracting
-
Great call there! I can't believe I missed that even though it is so so similar to Vin's earring! Honestly I will be very disapointed if this is only a setup to the second trilogy, but it will have different characters, as I believe someone else said was possible. I like alot of these characters, and I think they could all do with some fleshing out. And really, Wax ending up with Steris? no way

If we assume a normal bubble is tied to the planet, this theory has some issues. The planet moves in a circular orbit around a star, therefore, its direction is changing. If the bubble was tied to the direction and speed of the object it is tied to, it would shoot off into the sky as the planet's direction of motion changed. We probably will not know if bubbles can be tied to things other than the planets until a new book, but I think we can discount the "tied to direction and speed" theory. Although, what is interesting, is if they can be tied to moving vechicles, it what if a bendalloy bubble was tied to a moving car? obviously the bubble would be to small for a starship, but it could mabye cover a whole automoblie, allowing to to transverse great distances very quickly (to the eye outside the bubble)
-
I would assume that Brandon meant that there would be something more significant to objects leaving the bubble that that one event. I'm pretty sure you read the scene correctly, at least that is how I read it as well
