Is there a mechanism for entering the spiritual realm in an analogous manner to the transition from physical realm to cognitive realm? The actions of a certain shard in the Selish system seem to indicate it is possible/feasible to EXIT the spiritual realm, but is it feasible to go the other way? Could a person (or shardic vessel) use the spiritual realm to go from Silverlight to Elendel, or from the Horneater Peaks (Cultivation’s Perpendicularity) to Elantris’s Shardpool?

Can a nonSeeker differentiate between being Soothed and being Rioted?
Juanaton replied to Juanaton's question in Cosmere Q&A
Nope, not what I am asking. Marasi isn’t a Seeker, but she can tell, at least some times, when her feelings are being allomantically influenced. In such a situation, can she tell if the influence is a Riot rather than a Soothing or vice versa? -
Do Inanimate Objects Exist in the Spiritual Realm?

But the cake is a lie...so the Cryptics are gonna FEAST! -
Can a nonSeeker differentiate between being Soothed and being Rioted?
Juanaton posted a question in Cosmere Q&A
Yep, fit my whole question into the title. Note: by Seeker I am not specifying allomancy, but rather the underlying ability. Obviously Vin, Marsh, et al can tell the difference thanks to the ability to sense allomantic pulses and if another investiture granted a similar ability that would create (for the purposes of this question) a seeker. -
I picked up on the joke...the xD tipped me off...but at the same time, do we know Rayse was human before he took up the shard of Odium? At least one of the shards wasn't human (according to coppermind, Uli Da was not human), but at least one isn't exactly one or no more than one...so Rayse could be a dragon...or a cremling

@Calderis, I agree that the Fused haven't been shown voidbinding. IF we have seen voidbinding so far, it is with Renarin's visions...and I think it is likely his visions are an example of voidbinding. I admit, it is likely the ancient Truthwatcher was also voidbinding. However, I don't think it is NECESSARY for him/her to have been voidbinding to feel the need to whisper their admission of foresight, simply because others would ASSUME it to be the result of voidbinding/Odium whether or not that was true. I didn't make the point very clearly I think, but what I was trying to get at is that just because Renarin/a Truthwatcher can't make illusions with their surge of illumination like a Lightweaver(Shallan) does, doesn't mean they aren't using the Surgebinding form of that surge. Both the Bondsmiths and Stonewards use the surge of Tension, but it doesn't work the same way for both, per the StormFather.
-
Based on one of the StormFather's comments to Dalinar, the same surge does different things for different orders. In fact, not only can they do different things with the same surge, but they may not even be able to make the same effect at all. Dalinar as a Bondsmith can't do the same things to rock as the Stoneward in his vision...and presumably a Stoneward wouldn't have been able to repair Thaylenah like Dalinar. Both Skybreakers and Windrunners can fall the wrong direction, so at least some of the applications of the surges DO overlap. That said, I don't see why we MUST assume Renarin's visions are anything but the standard Truthwatcher version of Illumination. His corrupted spren makes it possible that those are from Voidbinding Illumination, however, one of the discovered gemstones held the message that an "ancient" Truthwatcher had "foreseen" the abandonment of the tower. Was that Truthwatcher voidbinding too?

Clash of Oaths - ok, that’s probably more SA as a whole rather than Szeth specifically CoolGhostlyBro - refers to soul afterimage, unfortunately one letter too long with spaces Compelled Shade ClaimedbyHonor - again one letter too long with the spaces Chained 2 Honor Contratruthless - ahahaha, now I know I have to sleep because that’s either a perfect description of Szeth that took way too long to come up with, or it’s the worst idea ever and just seems awesome because I’m so tired. -
Nightblood Taught Odium How To Kill Heralds
Juanaton replied to Leuthie's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don’t have a physical copy of OB right now, only the audiobook, so this may not be as authoritative as I’d like, but I think here is more time between the destruction of a thunderclast and the murder of Jezrien. Ash and Taln are standing in line to take the Oathgate out of Thaylenah when Jezrien dies. Ash’s POV makes that clear. I THINK there was some mention about how much time had passed since the battle ended and it wasn’t a matter of minutes but at least the next day. I don’t believe Nightblood and the antiherald dagger are as similar as the theory proposes, BUT I don’t think the timeline argument is as convincing as it has been made out. -
So the chef on the boat to Akina and the sage in Tashiik are very obviously sleepless, and I am pretty sure there is/was one in the storm shelter in Kholinar spying on/observing Kaladin, Shallan, and Adolin...have there been other sightings that I’ve missed?

Champion of Law - 15 characters Commited to Law - 15 characters Consigned Champ -15 characters but making it fit Szeth requires a bit of mental gymnastics and significant stretching...OTOH, double C’s -
Yes, that’s it. Although for some reason I hadn’t seen the whole thing in one place before, or at least don’t remember it all being together. I had it in separate bits and pieces and so was actually misinterpreting/misrepresenting what he said. Thanks.

If I am remembering correctly, I linked jasnah with that because of an “appearance” or “fan perception” thing being mentioned...but I might be wrong about to whom it was to apply. For that matter, it might have been about Kelsier and Wax.

Crushing Honor - 14 characters (including the space) Colorless Blade - 15 characters this one has multiple layers: he was the Assassin (blade) in White (colorless), he now carries a blade (Nightblood) that is another type of colorless (black), and it sounds like a Nalthis curse - yes, I know Szeth isn't from Nalthis...but Nightblood is and they are now linked Cull Lawless or Cull Lawful - as the assassin he was culling people and still wants/plans to cull the Shin of their leaders who condemned him as truthless...lawless if you want to describe what he does, lawful if you want to describe him & the way he acts...this one is a play off of Cull Obsidian from Infinity War -
Is Renarin Kholin on the Autism Spectrum?
Juanaton replied to KalaDANG's topic in Stormlight Archive
There is a possible way to resolve that (apparent) conflict. If "far along the spectrum" means in the direction of non-Autistic, rather than towards Autism, they agree. Since it's a spectrum you can go far along it in either direction....at least that's how my mathematician's brain looks at it. -
This has pretty definitively been answered with those WoBs, but I'm not sure why anyone was expecting this considering earlier he had said...<nope, don't have time to find the actual WoB right now>...something along the lines of how he didn't want to fall into the habit of making the deaths in his books lose their impact by resurrecting characters. It might actually be in an annotation or something, but he says how he's done it for one character, is about to do it for another or something like that, and that's the end of the "easy" resurrections. I'm pretty sure those were for Kelsier and Jasnah...so yeah.

I’m not confident enough in this to call it a theory, but I do think there is some significant support for the idea I just had. The Vorins consider the Old Magic and Nightwatcher to be synonymous and blasphemous. Since we know the humans on Roshar originated elsewhere (Ashyn), I believe the Old Magic actually refers to the magic of Ashyn. Since that magic (boon) is granted by sickness (curse), it makes sense that the Nightwatcher’s activities would come to be associated with that, particularly after enough time had passed for the Rosharan humans had forgotten their other worldly origins, but would still have vague myths and legends about how the Old Magic operated and it matched up with the Nightwatchers boon/curse game. Now if this is true, it MIGHT imply that ALL magic from Roshar is surgebinding, all magic from Braize is voidbinding, and all magic from Ashyn is the Old Magic...in other words, the shardic source of the investiture doesn’t determine the magic, the planet of origin does.

Ah right...I forgot about the reduced number of hours.

I feel like you may be comparing earth years (25) to Rosharan years (19). Since a year on Roshar is 500 days long we would consider Kal to be a little over 26. That said, I've felt that the ages used for the characters work better before the conversion in describing their maturity levels...Kal acts more like 19 than 26, Dalinar is old enough he should have real problems with fighting instead of being able to do a Last Clap, and so on.

Referring back to my last post in this thread, I now wonder if what I said is the thought process that led Khriss to posit the third, more esoteric, set of abilities/magic. Since WoB is there are only voidbinding, surgebinding, and fabrials I was attempting to harmonize with that. But I now think it possible that I (and Khriss) presented a logical but incorrect explanation of those two magic systems.
-
Not necessarily, although probably. Voidsurging sounds like it would produce rapid growth of nothingness while Surgevoiding sounds like it would reduce growth to zero...so I'm not sure about the interactions between Odium and Cultivation. Perhaps that has to do with the principles of Fabrial tech, imprisoning spren so that the changes they typically respond to are controlled and available on command rather than occurring naturally.
-
Based on the names I’d say voidbinding is from a mixture of Odium and Honor. My analysis supporting this goes like this: a surge is a (typically rapid) change or progression, so related to Cultivation. Honor is related to oaths and binding. So surgebinding is Cultivation/Honor. Similarly, Odium is void so voidbinding is Odium/Honor.
-
The old magic is a magic of Roshar and is associated with the Nightwatcher (per some Navani comments). Voidbringer was first used by one of the Dawnsingers to refer to the humans, the humans now use it to refer to the Singers. I think any attempt to make the current usage the correct one is from an inherent pro-human bias. (In other words, I sympathize, but don’t agree.) I suspect any magic system linked to Odium is going to vary based on the planet, since the magic system grows out of the combination of investiture, vessel, and planetary focus. If Odium hung out on Sel long enough while shattering those shards to start having a magic system it would probably have been form based in some sense. If he had made it to Scadrial it would involve metal catalysts.

Spoiler for oathbringer.
