I'm still a huge fan of the original series (that new stuff makes me pretty unhappy because of the story changes), and especially the story. I was always a fan of the Air Toa, and as for my favorite mask... I always loved the Mask of Time, especially since I got one with a limited edition Vahki that I got way back when.

Those are some good questions. I kinda imagine this world akin to the Final Empire, in that the good guys don't have much going for them, since the big bad has already taken over. So, it would be a fantasy setting - though I would also enjoy having plenty of science fiction elements to include. If anyone wants to help build up the idea (which is kinda the point), I'd be more than happy to take suggestions.

Here are some ideas I've had recently. Not necessarily plot ideas, but something I'd like to share either way. The first is this: an open-source world, where everything is available to use, and the only rules are 1) no changing the established canon/rules, and 2) all works are canon, even the contradictory ones, thanks to some canonical event that caused multiverses to appear. It's a rough idea, and I don't think I'd ever see it to fruition - unless somebody worked with me on it. It's a project whose development goes as far as that, so it's waaaaaaaay on the backburner. Another idea, which I just had today, has more to do with personal worldbuilding. Being a writer of comics and a poor artist of humans, I figure that it would be good to do these two things in conjunction with each other on a daily basis. 1) I design a character, either for a story I already have in development, and once I do, I 2) develop that character with a backstory and personality. Two quick little things that can help me grow in skill in more than one aspect and give me content that I can save for later.

So! I Have A Comic I'd Like To Suggest To You.
Coinshooter replied to ChullRider's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Sorry for resurrecting the dead thread... but Planeswept has definitely gone a lot further since this was first started. And now it has it's own website! (That will take you to the first update.) And as for comics I recommend... well, they're all here. There's too many for me to grab all the links.- 15 replies

Now I'm wishing I'd come up with something like that. Usually it's something like telepathy when it comes to these kinds of things. But what I want to know is similar to TwiLyght - how does this race react to and communicate with the other races? Also cuttlefish velociraptors. You just get all the points today.

Fictional Characters with Investiture
Coinshooter replied to Adamir's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I know nothing of Sherlock, and I agree that the Doctor would make a great Windrunner. The abilities also seem to be in par with his style - or at least, with previous regenerations (I still haven't seen series 8, but that's for another topic). What I can suggest, however, are powers for Indiana Jones. I believe that being an Iron/Copper twinborn would work out perfectly for him - pull precious artifacts/weapons away from traps, enemies, and so forth (that Cortez thing would have gone over a lot smoother if he'd been able to Ironpull the cross away), whereas having a coppermind at his disposal would greatly assist in remembering details, clues, and so forth, letting him be more effective and possibly quicker in his hunts. And then the journal fiasco in the third movie could also have been averted (though lets be honest, his father would probably have also stored that stuff in his own coppermind). And now I try to think of someone that would sync well with AonDor. I wish we could see more of that power... -
Indeed. I've noticed in my personal experience that in stories where I have the world pretty well defined, but the characters are just names being bent to the will of the plot, I usually end up trashing it before even getting around to writing anything. Or, in less words: good characters are, in my opinion, the best foundation for worldbuilding. Which is why I'm focusing on character bios right now instead of pretty much anything else.

Thank you! I'm thinking that I'll edit the iron one real quick when I get working on the cognitive metals. So, with Bronze, I was thinking that a Radar motif would work well, since a Seeker detects Allomantic pulses. I'm still not sure what to do with copper, though. Maybe something resembling static?

As I looked through all the glazes we have here (he made that where I work), I didn't see anything that said "Toxic," so I bet it's safe to assume that it's alright. Besides, I'm pretty sure that my brother's a Gold Ferring (unless he's been lying to me this entire time...).

Thanks for the ideas! I like all of these - especially those for Rioting and Soothing. I'll probably end up doing the super-nerdy thing, since we need more nerdiness in life, and I was contemplating doing something similar for some other metals (that I didn't end up doing).

So, I've got this little project that I'm working on. Basically, I want to take (almost) all the symbols associated with Investiture and turn them into 200x200 icons (since that's also the recommended size for user icons here on 17th Shard). So, naturally, I've begun with some of the symbols associated with Allomancy (just the physical, for now): With these two (iron and steel, respectively), I wanted to show them in action. And so I did. It's pretty straightforward - I like the mists in the Steel icon, in particular (it's also my current icon). These two are definitely my favorites, so far. With Tin, I didn't blur the mists and put in stars and distant city lights to show that the senses are sharpened while burning the metal, and with pewter, I did energy ripples and a heartbeat to show that it gives the person more energy, more endurance, etc. Between the two, I have no idea which one's my favorite, but I'm leaning more towards pewter. However, now I have a question - what should I do for the other metals? For Gold, Atium, and Electrum, I've got some ideas, but for zinc and brass, I haven't the slightest idea.

Ay, sorry for the double post (but there's been no action here recently, and this contributes to the discussion, so I'm under the impression that it's kinda okay). But here are some allomantic symbols that I made: Tin, Steel, Pewter, and Iron, in that order. And, just for convenience's sake: All the physical metals in one image. Also, what arty things have we all been up to? I updated my webcomic today. And did these.

Fictional Characters with Investiture
Coinshooter replied to Adamir's topic in Entertainment Discussion
This thread is indeed interesting - I agree that the Doctor would have access to one of the temporal metals, and though the being an Augur would fit, I think he'd prefer to have bendalloy at his command. Also, thinking about Darth Vader having Hemalurgy could help with his circuitry and whatnot. It would kill two rebel Mistings with one spike, to change the phrase up a bit. -
Fictional Characters with Investiture

Yoda, I think, would fit as a Mistborn. Super powerful with the force, those powers would only allow him to become even better. The tin, pewter, and just about everything else would make him an even bigger force to be reckoned with - and who knows? Perhaps it would have let him beat the Emporer (but really, I just want to see a Mistborn Jedi). And I could easily see Darth Vader being a Hemalurgist - being more man than machine, the spikes could allow him to survive in even more circumstances, make him a more terrifying villain, and so forth. It seems to fit his style, too. Which raises the question - could Hemalurgy steal the Force from someone? -
Nazh --Did I find a new Worldhopper?

I just found this out the same way today, looking at the map of Elendel. I got super excited about it, too. Good job! -
There are so many good ideas here... good job to all of you! Recently, I've been breaking my head over a series called Isonys LORE (LORE being an acronym that formed itself rather fortuitously). I've been trying to figure out how the Universe forms and maintains itself spiritually. It's really hard, but recently, I've been working more on powers that stretch from the four bases of the Universe - there are three for each, one creative, one sensory/communicative, and one modifying. I have 9 of the twelve powers - and I'm trying to make these a lot harder (per Sanderson's First Law), and that's been going very well. What I'm trying to solidify more than anything at the moment is something I call Planar Theory. Most things are comprised of three planes ( a Low, Mid, and Highplane), which each govern the next plane in line (Low to Mid, Mid to High, High to Low). The Lowplane contains the base template/idea for the object, which sends information to the Midplane. The Midplane, using undetermined processes, gathers the materials (called Intraplanes) for the object and synthesizes them together (blueprints/detailed plans), which then causes that to synthesize on the Highplane. Actions on the Highplane can affect and change the template/idea on the Lowplane, which then starts the cycle over. Also, objects can only communicate on the Highplane, unless certain circumstances are met (and now I can do my own RAFO'ing here ).

The forum goers used this thread. He awoke and started burning tin. "Success!" he cheered, lifting the trophy. "BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY!" (Yes, I know, it's from Lord of the Rings, but it's still a great six-word story) "The theories meld. It's quite confusing." The Sharder forced himself to stop. (That last one is a true story. This is fun.)

I've run into this scenario tons of times, and this sounds like it could be fun - I myself am running a webcomic* (on my own site, to boot). Of course, I have a full time hour job and a (slight) social life, but if you're not all that worried about time frames, I'd totally love to do that (though I can usually find time to do that kind of thing - and if I'm not fully dedicated to the story, then that would leave me even more time). TL;DR for those three lines: if you want, I'll make time to do it. Sounds like fun! *The comic is very stylized, and doesn't really reflect my full artistic potential. The style is a plot element, though.

I should probably see that movie - it seems fairly popular. Also, I'm thinking about doing these little icons for all the Allomantic metals. Arting is fun. EDIT: Evidently I watched My Neighboor Totoro very, very frequently as a child... I'd better relive it then.

Well... we'll have to see how Hemalurgy evolves over the course of time before I accept these "cookies." But I'm excited to be here - finally, I can talk with plenty of Sanderson-obsessed people like me (that actually want to talk about Sanderson. Most the people I know are like, "meh").
