iirc, it's actually mentioned (albeit only as a theory) in the book. But I can't remember where off the top of my head. And the theory might be wrong, in any event.

Szeth's Unique Aquisition (SPOILERS!!!!!!)
junior replied to Swimmingly's topic in Stormlight Archive
Vasher wouldn't *willingly* part with Nightblood. But he might have parted with it *unwillingly*. Nightblood might also explain why Vasher's been hanging around for at least a dozen years (and likely longer); i.e. he's looking for his naive, cheerful, and oh so extraordinarily dangerous sword. -
If there are assumptions, they might be the other way around. It's possible that Jasnah caught the Ghostbloods sniffing around the palace and killed enough of them to realize that something was going on. This might have then caused her to be a bit more proactive in going after them, which caused the Ghostbloods to decide that the only reasonable way of dealing with her was to have her killed. On the other hand, the rather... extreme... reaction to Shallan that involved her coach and unfortunate driver suggests that the Ghostbloods are hiding some sinister secrets of their own.

Secret Societies of Roshar - (Spoilers likely)
junior replied to Aradel's topic in Stormlight Archive
The thought had occurred to me as well. However, the Envisagers exclusively focused the Bad Things on their own members. The Sons of Honor seem to like focusing the Bad Things on other people. -
The early insult exchanges between Kaladin and Shallan have a very Benedick and Beatrice ("Much Ado About Nothing") vibe to them, imo. Having said that, I hope that we don't have a love triangle. I don't mind them getting together, but only if Shallan and Adolin have an amicable break first. And given that we've got 8 more books to go, there's plenty of time for that. It's possible. But Adolin already has a blade. Yes, his is "merely" a dead spren. But it doesn't scream to him (yet). I see Dalinar as a much more likely recipient for the blade as he can't use any existing shardblades, and he's not going to be getting a new (living) one.

Dalinar uses the blade during the fighting on the Plateaus, and there's a brief mention that he finds it uncomfortable to use. He doesn't get the full-on screaming effect, but he clearly senses that he shouldn't be using it. At the time, he dismisses it as his unfamiliarity with the weapon (as opposed to his "own" shardblade, which he'd traded to Sadeas). Speaking of which... The last we saw of Relis, he was running screaming out of the arena. Apparently holding his shardblade at the same time as Kaladin caused him to hear the same screaming that Kaladin did. I wonder if we're going to meet Relis again in the future?
-
Even so, I think Sadeas would probably still have been alive at the end if he hadn't started spouting his absurd conspiracy theory regarding Dalinar and the Parshendi. I think what finally pushed Adolin over the edge was the recognition that Sadeas himself had already gone over that edge. Sadeas's lust for power made it impossible for him to accept that Dalinar was right.

A certain person who hasnt showed up yet (spoilers)
junior replied to lordofsoup's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the reason why everyone is showing up is contained in one of the chapter headers. Odium is a threat to the entire Cosmere. But he's currently stuck at Roshare (or, iirc, more accurately, one of the nearby planets orbiting the same primary). If you're going to find a way to deal with a distant threat (that may come for a visit at some point), then one of the best ways to do so is to examine it up close and personal. And that means taking extra-planetary field trips. Plus, we know from one of the interludes in WotK, that at least some of the visitors are specifically looking for Hoid. -
My guess is that he can use small amounts of stormlight to fill the same role as the "daily breath". So as long as he's got infused gemstones nearby, he's fine.

Secret Societies of Roshar - (Spoilers likely)
junior replied to Aradel's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think we need a different name for these guys. They share the same name with an Order of Knights Radiant, probably because both groups have the same patron. But I strongly suspect that the guys currently following the Herald of Justice aren't currently bonded with any spren. Which would mean that if we do get a KR Skybreaker, we're going to need a way to differentiate any KR Skybreakers from the ones who are currently following the Herald. -
We know absolutely nothing about her prior to her mother's death. I don't think there's really anything to go with here. Once again, don't forget that her mother appears to have decided to murder her, pretty much out of the blue (albeit based on the urging of her mother's friend). Given what we know about Shallan, the only explanation that makes sense right now is that her mother's friend had somehow detected that Shallan had bonded with a spren.

No. Additionally, after reading your question, I experimented and noticed that rotating the page ninety degrees fixes it. Very odd. Based on my experiments, I've got the following - I'm using an iPad, with the Nook software installed. The font is set to the default (third option from the left), and I've been reading it in a two-page format (i.e. long side of the tablet at the top and bottom of the screen). Two of the other font settings involve line breaks in the middle of words for that sentence, but the sentence continues on the next line. There's only an issue when the word "others" is split in two. Edit - I tried one more experiment. I rotated my iPad so that text was displayed in single page format, and bumped the Font up to the second largest. This caused the word "other" to get split once again... and once again the post-break letters of the word were lost.

Yeah, but in WoR, Elhokar specifically describes whatever it is he's seeing as "darkness". I was leaning toward cryptics in WotK, but now I'm starting to wonder. Jealousy would certainly be a good word to attach to Elhokar these days, and that's very dark emotion. I could see a void-focused "Envy-Spren" trying to bond with Elhokar.

Shallan assumed that she needed ten heartbeats to summon the blade because that's what everyone else needs. Kaladin does this initially as well, until Syl informs him otherwise. As for the rest, who knows? We don't really know when she and Pattern first started interacting. But it does appear that there may have been some signs of the spren-bond. That seems to be the only logical explanation for why her mother tried to kill her.

I think we have evidence of a bond during the battle. The Stormfather's conversations with Dalinar - outside of the visions - start at that point. He's also spoken with Kaladin (and possibly Shallan) in previous incidents, but both of those were during the height of the storm. The storm was nowhere near that point when he started apologizing to Dalinar.

Two things in particular come to mind - "Hello. Would you like to destroy some evil today?" I laughed when everyone's favorite friendly (and boy, is it friendly!) evil-destroying sword turned up unexpectedly. Also, Jasnah's reappearence in the epilogue. I found it a bit of a waste that Sanderson killed her off when he did. So her reappearence makes me happy. I'm hoping we see a lot more of her in future books.

That was my initial thought when he joined. But after finding out about his power, I wouldn't be surprised if he saw something that lead him to Bridge 4. I strongly doubt it. I'd expect something like that to show in Renaren's personality - either through what had initially attracted it to the young man, or through it exerting influence on him. But we see nothing to suggest that. However, I wouldn't be surprised if *Elhokar* is being influenced by void spren. He mentions to Kaladin that Kaladin's presence seems to drive away whatever it is that he keeps seeing out of the corner of his eye.

I noticed that this received a "blink and you'll miss it" reference in WoR. -
So was Renaren (his eyesight). I'm not sure that this is an issue right at the start of the KR path.

I've added it to the typo thread.

A possible one that's limited to the Nook version. Someone else has stated that the line doesn't cut off suddenly in the Kindle version. It's from the chapter header of chapter 86 - "One is almost certainly a traitor to the oth- - From the Diagram, Book of the 2nd Desk Drawer: paragraph 27"

Interesting. It does in the Nook version. I would have thought that they'd be identical. It's positioned in such a way that the hyphen could be a line break, but there's nothing further. "One is almost certainly a traitor to the oth- - From the Diagram, Book of the 2nd Desk Drawer: paragraph 27"

Something that's bothering me (FULL BOOK SPOILERS)
junior replied to learhpa's topic in Stormlight Archive
In WotK, Navani mentions at least once to Dalinar that Gavilar wasn't the good man that everyone saw him as. She doesn't elaborate, but some of the comments in WoR have caused me to speculate on that. I've got a sneaking suspicion that, like Taravangian and Amaraam, Gavilar was performing some reprehensible actions in order to "save the world". Bringing his immediate family members into his little conspiracy would have meant exposing them to all of that, and he probably didn't think that they were ready for it.
