  1. Ah, it's my mom's alma mater, and I love the environment, but it is very, very small. I'm a Global Studies major, which contains all of the linguistics classes offered here, though it also has other focuses as well, but I'm seriously considering grad school for some intensive lingusitic studies.
  2. *blinks* Uh... Joe I think you are about 6,000 times smarter than I am with this stuff, because all of that just went over my head. Can you explain in dumb-blonde terms? I'm sure Sylvie would know what you mean, but I am not as savvy as her!
  3. Yes, I read, and I can see a lot of what you're saying about Olaf as an extension of Elsa's subconscious, but I tend to still think there was something about the execution of his part in the narrative that just didn't click. There was just something lacking there for me...
  4. Ah, Jewel is adorable; that's high praise indeed! Yeah... I may have to do a bit of level editing when Renarin shows up, heh. Wouldn't want to kill y'all's ears and all. Thank you! I'm a little bit of a linguist -- as in I'd be a linguistics major in a heartbeat if my school offered it -- so I tend to like writing things out in IPA. Helps me contextualize it for myself.
  5. Darnam, The Count is right. Your posts here are becoming increasingly impolite and that needs to stop please. I'm sorry you feel you are being ignored, though I can see that treblkickd seems to be trying to respond to you, despite your continued comments against him. The other members of the forum do not owe you a response to the posts that you make, and speaking unkindly to them over the issue is not appropriate. Demanding responses to your posts, or even beyond that, demanding specific kinds of responses to your posts is very rude. You are allowed to disagree with other forum members, but conversation needs to remain civil, please.
  6. Yeah... I'm pretty sure I'm the person who coined that term. BUT HE IS THOUGH. Come on. White uniform and everything. UGH. HANS. STOP IT PLEASE.
  7. Yeah, I pointed it out. Species names aren't usually capitalized, but nationality names usually are. I suppose I was just thrown because I'm not used to the names of species also being functional words. Ah yeah, Brandon doesn't really seem to be singing it though. I just wondered if the person that he commissioned the lullaby from (which was his father-in-law I believe?) came up with a melody to go along with the lyrics. I'd prefer not to make up my own if there's an official one! Of course I like Adolin! I like anyone who likes Renarin and Adolin loves Renarin. Gaaaah, they're just so sweet and kind to each other and I just need like 3 million scenes of them being happy and nice together plsthx. Also, I'm kind of in love with his current rivalry dynamic with Kaladin because it amuses me to no end and I find it fantastic, hehehe.
  8. I was dragged into loving Frozen after Lisa made a write up of it with Renarin in Elsa's role and Adolin in Elsa's role. I hadn't even seen the movie yet and I fell for it hard. In fact, I was almost expecting Anna to manifest her own ice powers by the end. And I find it very difficult to not like Hans because he's sideburns!Elend to me and that is intolerably distressing. I agree with just about everything you've been saying about Olaf, Peter. I feel like it would have been a stronger movie without him or if his personality and role had been different. He just bugged me mostly and I felt like he got in the way of the rest of the characters, who were played more seriously. Even while they were being humorous, they were funnier and more engaging than Olaf, who I found to be more goofy and silly than actually funny. Definitely needed more songs, especially on the back end. "Let It Go" is fantastic and I would have killed for another major song for Elsa where Idina Menzel could have just really shone. A large cast-ensemble song at the very end with major parts going to Elsa and Anna? A chance for Kristoff to sing something other than "Reindeers Are Better Than People"? I saw someone suggesting a dark reprise of "Love Is An Open Door" with Hans as a villian song, because his "love" for her is his open door to the throne? The end really just needed another song.
  9. Ah, a voice crush? I'm flattered! I'll say this, you will most likely be hearing more recordings from me in the future, since I've gotten such a good response from them here! *the heaviest of sighs* Welp, it seems I pronounce ALL of the Stormlight names wrong. Okay then. I've managed to change Shallan and Jasnah's pronunciations, I can do the same with Renarin and Adolin as well. So, just so that i can get things straight it would be: [ɹɜnˈaɹɪn] and [ˈeɪdolɪn], not [ˈɹɪnʌɹɪn] and [ˈædolɪn]. 'Kay, I think I've got it now. I'll have to practice those. Hmm... I suppose this means I'll have to stop saying "SHAH-luh-rin" and use "shuh-LAH-rin" instead... So, [ʃʌˈlɑɹɪn] instead of [ˈʃɑlʌɹɪn]. "Miiiiild" obsession. Very mild. I don't even know what the poor boy's name is, it seems. (And now I'm blushing from all these compliments.) Aaaah you guys are all so nice. I'm wondering now if that lullaby that Shallan's father sings to her has a melody... I kinda want to try singing it now.
  10. Woooo, let's ramble about AI hardware shall we? I will say that fiVe's set-up is possibly different than Vee's but this is how I've been playing them: So, the AIs have a couple different ways that they can work. Their core processing takes up a set amount of space and that would allow the AiVee to think, remember, and feel emotions. On top of that, they usually run extra programs that give them communication abilities: A voice processor in most cases, occasionally they'll do a visual output as well, like fiVe's emote program at the potluck. On one of the tablets that Sylvie has formatted to run the AiVees (fiVe has her old one, from Vulcan and Sylvie has bought a replacement for Vee since then) this "core" processing takes up about 3/4 of their available power. They can really only do small tasks on the tablets themselves, which are more suited to being portable and simply making an appearance rather than actually doing things. Next step up from there would be Sylvie's laptop, which can run an AiVee in about half of it's processing power. Sylvie usually tries to avoid this, because SHE needs to do things on her laptop, but when she does end up doing it, she tends to close everything to give Vee the space to do things if she needs to. Finally, there's actual desktop servers. Sylvie's got ridiculously good servers for Vee (it's where she spends the vast majority of her money.) There's two of these for Vee now. One back at the apartment, one down in the hold of Tranquility. When she's running on these, Vee's got massive amounts of processing power, which allows her to do things like... navigate the ship, or run the complex algorithms of an auto-targetting system while fending off cyber attacks from an enemy warship. Back in the apartment, Vee likes to think of herself as somewhat like JARVIS, running most of the systems in Sylvie's home for her while puppeteering a complex visual output program with a 3D avatar on the screens. I'm thinking that Seiko and Miranda probably purchased a regular hard drive for fiVe back at their apartment, but it's not going to come close to the kind of tech that Sylvie's got access to.
  11. When you end up recommending Brandon's works to the drive-thru worker at Taco Bell because she saw your soulcaster on your hand and asked about it.
  12. And, in case your fingers aren't hurting yet from all that typing, here's Session #23, the potluck at Zhu's house. Also known as "Shipping, shipping, and more shipping." Before that one though, there is a quick Interlude with Reika. IDK if you saw that one yet, but I'll link to it again. EDIT FOR REACTION NOW. Okay here we go: Fun fact: Originally the tracking device had a microphone in it and the implication was that the cult could have been listening in. Then we realized that they would know all about the AiVees and have all sorts of personal info that would be REALLY BAD. So the mic got retconned out because Gavin kinda blinked and said: "Wait, that's a lot more than I was expecting them to have." As for Vee's autonomy, I think most of her difference comes from a difference of situation. Vee tends to be outside of situations and can give Sylvie a better perspective. She doesn't get as nervous as Sylvie at the beginning with Zhu because... she doesn't have to stare her down and sit in the room with her. She's not suffering that desperate need to reconnect that Sylvie is right now, so... she can make the responsible decision and make sure they do the right thing. *heavy sigh about scene displacement* Simultaneous scenes are the bane of my existence. Especially when they overlap. Basically it's a weighing game between plot twists and readability. I have to ask myself: "Okay, if there's a plot twist that happens in these scenes, who do I need to see it from first?" Usually that's going to decide where things go. Trying to have Vee interrupt fiVe and Zhu about the tracker before seeing the discovery from Sylvie and Miranda would have been awkward, so that's the way the scenes went. The trials of the transcriber. Yeah, although she'd never admit it, fiVe is still very much Sylvie. She acts like her, she reacts to things like her, she talks like her. She, Sylvie, and Vee all use the same kinds of phrases too in various situations. Much as fiVe would like to think she's fully independent and her own person... it's just not quite true. She tends to have subtler influences on her thoughts and reactions from Seiko and Miranda as well, but at the heart of everything, her programming and personality are Sylvie's. And I wouldn't necessarily say that she and Vee are Sylvie at points in her arc, but they are various versions of her. The closest analogue might actually be like a shoulder devil and shoulder angel, with Vee's protective and healing nature towards Sylvie, and fiVe's vindictive wrath. Vee is going to be slightly more inclined to understand fiVe than Sylvie is. Sylvie's got a LOT of stuff going on, while Vee has less to occupy her time. Beyond that, there's an immense kinship that Vee feels for fiVe simply on the virtue of them being AiVees together. This isn't so much Vee breaking from Sylvie (because when they Drift, she's going to pull Sylvie along in this direction as well) but Vee's going to be the one who kinda takes the lead on it. Hehe, and the processor is a bit of a joke. Basically, when the AiVees get flustered or embarrassed, their cooling fans pick up speed to cool them back down. It happens when Zhu compliments Vee's name. Basically the AI equivalent of blushing. Ah, and I still love Seiko so much. He's still very distrusting and manipulative, but I really do think he might be making steps in the right direction. Zhu might just break him down and get him to open up. He's starting to let Miranda in, and he's let in fiVe because he didn't have much of a choice after she got ahold of his secrets, but he's got a ways to go yet. Oh fiVe. I've mentioned before I was very surprised that everyone immediately took her side in the issue. They may realize later that that could have been too quick of a decision. Like I've said, fiVe is not a nice person and when it comes to Sylvie, she's got a viscious streak a mile wide. Yep, you totally called that Sylvie's Drifting could be seen as an addictive habit. I never meant for it to be that way, but I think you and Miranda have it right. As it stands right now, it's a crutch, and it's probably not very healthy... Also, GO WATCH FIREFLY. It's fantastic! (Zhu's referencing that her type is Zoe right here though, who's last name used to be "Alleyne" before she married Wash.) I do kinda hope that Miranda will be able to go back to Shatterdome work eventually. I think it's good for her. Seiko's professionalism does slip occasionally, which usually means something is bothering him a lot. He's still not sure what to think about being trusted and having people on his side, which I think is why he almost slips. Then of course, we go into the Seiko/Miranda cutes because yaaaaaaaaaaay.
  13. Well, it's not my whole bookshelf... but I am rather proud of this little snippet here: Why... yes I own 13 mistborn books. Why do you ask? From left to right: RPG, Alloy, Original Trilogy (English), Original Trilogy (Japanese) [5/9], Original Trilogy (French)
  14. Hah, my Syl voice is rather more high pitched than my regular voice. In fact, I'm pretty sure Syl's the highest of all my voices, though Allrianne occassionally gets high enough to break into that range. It's really hard for me to make Syl sound sad or serious actually, because the voice that I do for her is so suited to happy, mischievous, and bubbly.
  15. Which is why I didn't try... Figured recording my wordless screeches would get the point across better than *wordless screech*. Also, I'm like, screaming and then apologizing for screaming ALL at the same time. Woo. Shipper and proud. Yeaaaaah. You should have heard the sounds I made when the Shallan/Adolin causal became a thing. (I have a feeling these recordings are going to become a thing so, expect more from me?)
  16. And in the midst of all the hectic air of the new chapters, I've managed to finish Session 22! Also, as an extra bonus, there's a new Aside as well featuring Reika!
  17. OH NO I CAN'T LET KURK GET RENARIN'S SHARDPLATE, REN BBY I'M SO SORRY I WASN'T THINKING.
  18. Fine... noted. Part 5 to the end. Probably the infamous Chapter 7 as well. And I swear on Renarin's shardplate that if he gets a POV chapter I'm gonna do those too. While crying. A lot.
  19. Chaos told you all that I ended up bleeding in class from biting my tongue out of frustration, right? The professor kept giving me looks because I have the worst poker face and he just kneeeewwww I was doing things... Well, I've done Cosmere book readings before... An entire audio book of just me reacting though? That'd be something else...
  20. Aaah, I'm sorry! I tried to find another website to host on, but they're not working. :c Sorry! Maybe you can find a coffeeshop with wifi or something? It's too bad that you can't hear it! (Though you'll spare your ears my screeching.) --FeatherWriter is not available at the moment. Please leave a message at the tone.-- *wordless high-pitched keening* Aaaaaand now I'm tempted. I'll try to do a written liveblog at least? Mayhaps I'll pull up the recording software if things start to get intense just in case. We'll have to see. I will make an attempt! Of course you do. What's not to like? He's a darling.
  21. I... I'm not sure whether to be reassured, flattered, or terrified. It's a very strange mix of all three I think. You can imagine that the sounds I made in response to this reply were very similar to the ones at the end of Chapter 12. ...And I got some very strange looks in the coffeeshop for this.
  22. Hmm, I don't know if this would help, but you can maybe try listening over here on tumblr? It's still SoundCloud, but it's an embedded player so that might work?
  23. Aah, I'm glad you liked it! I apologize for any long-term damage that your ears may have suffered. ALSO, since posting that I saw someone point out that Renarin's really hesitant to take that Blade... WHICH I'M GOING TO TAKE TO MEAN SURGEBINDER!RENARIN. Because, what if his spren is telling him not to do it, but he can't turn it down? Baby stop... I can't take this... Not just Shardbearer!Renarin... but possibly UnwillingShardbearerWithASpren!Renarin... Ow. Now things hurt and I'm upset...
  24. GLAD TO SEE ALL OF YOU ARE LAUGHING AT MY PAIN. RUDE. Anyway, in honor of the last chapters, instead of liveblogging this one... I live-reacted? Figured I was going to get to the point where I wouldn't want to slow down to comment, so instead, I ended up pulling up Audacity and recording myself while I read. It was a lot longer, but I cut out most of the silence, which reduced it down quite a bit. It's about 27 minutes (sorry) but, hey that's better than the 50 minutes it was originally! Y'all can find that here, if you're interested in listening to me talk about the chapters. (Well, talk and... make rather incoherent noises at various parts...) I'll just... let it speak for itself... okay. *falls down and sobs for a while*
  25. The closest reference I can find is this: It seems that duels for Shards are also sometimes fights to the death, though I'm pretty sure that they do not always have to be so. Rock's nuatoma's duel was a fight to the death for Sadeas's Shards.
