  1. There's an Inn at the Forests of Hell And the hostess shall treat you well If you spare just a sliver Of that precious Silver Shadows won't leave you a shell
  2. This is highly entertaining to me as well...much more satisfying than doing my ACTUAL work.... That Lift is oh so awesome Or so its said quite often You can't seem to work While she has a Shardfork And tries to eat a vasum
  3. A friend we may have in Hoid But that man, we learn to avoid Whether it's in the mist Or by the edge of a fist, He may damnation us all to the void
  4. Kal had a brother named Tien So cute, that he could not e'en Til he went off to fight, Oh what a plight! Then Syl became his new sunbe-am (it's a bit of a stretch, I know...)
  5. There once was a girl named Vin Whose mentor really was a has-been So she gulped down a vial and ran for a mile Thank god she was not Kaladin
  6. I think the original idea for "self splintering" comes from the fact that on Nalthis, the Divine Breath are effectively Splinters of Endowment; she splinters off a piece of her own Investiture to create a Returned. Originally when Adonalsium was on/created Roshar, He/She/It also Splintered off pieces of Investiture to create Spren such as the Stormfather/Rider of Storms and Cucicesh (I think). The Unmade, I believe, are also Splinters of Odium, although I may be wrong on that part.
  7. The way I see it, as mistwraiths, Kandra are effectively masses of undifferentiated stem cells. When they are spiked into becoming full Kandra, they then have a consciousness to direct that differentiation, hence the need to consume their victims. The digestive process also allows them to mimic the cells of the donor, as well as clean the bones for the structural aspect of a body. I figure that, as mentioned above, they could theoretically have a baby with themselves with enough know-how. Kandra surrogates anyone?
  8. Mainly due to the description of both having red streaks throughout - I'm at work right now, so I can't pull the relevant descriptions, but they did seem very similar. It could be that's literally the ONLY link, how they look, but this is Brandon we're talking about, so it's difficult to say for sure, to me at least.
  9. I actually had a theory very similar to yours, positing that Trellium = soulstone. However, as @Argent pointed out, soulstone could be Aona and/or Skai's godmetal. It could be that someone (coughcoughautonomycoughcough) has co-opted some of the soulstone and sent it to Scadrial to wreak havoc and distract Harmony.
  10. I saw a zinc-tongued comedian last night....he was a Riot! Met a Thug the other day, and he offered to help me move some stuff out of my place. He was good, but a little...Ham-fisted about it...
  11. I like this idea! The only thing I can think of for Sel is......you know what? I really got nothin'... Wracking my brain for something that fits, and the only thin that comes to mind is that it's a lamp because the Investiture is in the Cognitive realm, so maybe it's like the Light of Thought? Enlightenment and all that jazz. I highly doubt this is it, though, just a crackbrained thought that came to mind... @Pagerunner has summed it up nicely, though, so I'll just....I'll just be quiet now... Move along, folks, move along... nothing to see here folks...
  12. Heh, stumped it with Serafina/Seraphina from David Edding's Elenium
  13. Yes, you're right that he said it's from a shard we've seen before, and this was before White Sand (in graphic novel form) came out. I don't think we can consider the prose format canon unless we've heard otherwise. True, but it is taken from rocks that fell from the sky, and are worshipped, or were, by Shai's people - sounds like meteorites, which typically contain lots of metal; I feel that if one were to carve soulstone into the shape of a spike, and then burn it as though creating a stamp to harden it, that would work. I don't think we know enough about soulstone to say one way or another without further WoBs - I just think it works well, given the descriptions of both, although I'm certainly not set (heh) in the theory
  14. I feel like the spike Paalm, AKA Bleeder, in Shadows of Self was using is from Sel. What if a sample of Soulstone was formed into a spike? The similarities in their descriptions are quite marked with soulstone being white with red patches throughout, and the spike being silvery with a red cast, and what looks to be "rust" spots. The other aspect that makes it seem unlikely to me that Odium is Trell is the proximity of the Ire...although we do not know how close they are during this particular era, they were at one point very close. My particular theory is that the "faceless immortal" at the end of BoM is actually a Skaze as seen on Scadrial
  15. I know there was a brief chat on this topic over at the tor.com Warbreaker reread, although it was more with how Night blood will cause an object to turn black, whereas perfect Awakening turns it white. I suggested that perhaps it has to do with how colour/light acts in nature. That what we perceive as colour is actually just the electromagnetic energy that is REFLECTED off an object and not absorbed. So when the God king Awakens, hes actually improving an object's reflection of light, instead of just draining it of colour. His aura causes light to bend off of white objects, and coloured objects seem to reflect the "perfect" version of their colour. So maybe what Nightblood's aura is doing, is causing the objects to reflect LESS of their perfect colour? Or just the darker version of it? Someone else on the tor.com thread mentioned additive colours and subtractive colours , which may also help to explain the differences...
  16. I'm pretty sure "Plains" is capitalized because it refers to The Shattered Plains, which is where the war with the Parshendi takes place...also, you said "all ten arnies" (emphasis mine) which makes me think of ten Terminators, or 10 Conans, which is hilarious....
  17. I don't know that there is really a way to explain that...."concisely". Your best bet would be to go take a look at the Cosmere 101 posts in The Coppermind...can't get much more concise than that, I'm afraid...
  18. So I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but Tor.com has released a snippet of info regarding the latest Sanderson book. While it's only a small sample, it gives us a bunch of info I don't think was previously known! This book is gonna be fully of juicy tidbits, and I for one cannot wait!
  19. @Landis963 Ahh good points... I guess I only saw the link between what the IRE drink and what Hoid puts on his oar and Spanky, and rolled with it
  20. @Landis963 the other candidate for a white robe is an Elantrian - remember, when a person goes through the transformation, or at least the Shaod (I think that's what it's called - don't have the book in front of me ) they are dressed in white robes before taken to the city. Likewise, when we see Hoid riding Spanky he uses a liquid to keep him afloat, presumably the same liquid we see the IRE drinking a little later. Could be just a coincidence, but knowing Sanderson, probably not...
  21. I think my mind has been blown....Sam Vimes is part of the cosmere!?!? I knew it!! Great A'Tuin is actually the "Survival" shard...
  22. Ahh, thank you!! That pizza was delicious.... Edit to add: not sure how to add a quote here to reference a previous post... Also, thanks for the semantics correction! I couldn't remember whether I should say splinter or sliver, or if there's another term that I'm not aware of. I guess we just have to figure out what to call this *puts on sunglasses* pizza shard.... I'll show myself out....
  23. I feel like Trell is probably Kelsier: 1. We know from WOB that he is still around 2. We also know that in order for Harmony to be truly balanced, he would have had to create a Splinter from Ruin as Preservation is already weakened from Investing part of himself into humans, and would therefore be overpowered by the extra Ruin investiture 3. The curse "Rust and Ruin" is very suggestive that the Splinter of Ruin created has its own Intent, as it is spoken as though it were a separate entity. 4. So what if, when Sazed picked up both Shards and removed a Splinter of Ruin, Kelsier's cognitive shadow (or whatever you might call it) seized it, and was ultimately corrupted by it's Intent? We know that the new metal has rust on it, and that Harmony doesn't know what it is, so it could be that "Kelsier as Rust" has created his own hemalurgic spikes, which would be completely separate of anything of Harmony (or Preservation and Ruin)
