  1. What a fantastic game to have returned to SE for - thank you, @A Joe in the Bushand everyone who made it so much fun. As has been said before, rightly, many congratulations to @TJ Shade for an exceptional inaugural game. I've said it before, but if I were to give my own awards, I'd give a medal of honour to @Straw, for driving so much discussion and playing the game absolutely the right way. I'd also recognise @The Young Pyromancer, who I'd like to reassure I probably won't decide to kill out of spite, for such a brilliant job derailing the thread for so long. finally, @little wilson. the mad watcher was immense fun to play alongside, and our pm was one of the highlights of my game. i hope everyone takes note of how youve demonstrated it is quite possible to play the game for fun, and yet make a real positive contribution to the village.
  2. Pinch hitters are individuals who step in to replace a player who has gone inactive, taking over their role and alignment. In this game, we almost certainly won't be using pinch hitters, as we have a fairly robust inactivity filter.

  4. It was well past dusk, the candles flickering near their last, condemned shadows dancing in vain on the stone walls and austere furniture of Prelan Orielle's office. The man himself bore all the hallmarks of mediocrity. A third son of a cadet branch of the Orielle line, of reasonable but limited intellect, and showing not a sign of allomancy, he joined the Canton of Orthodoxy upon adolescence. His career had been predictably uneventful; Fadrex City was far from the political games of Luthadel. It was with great surprise, then, that the Prelan Orielle, hunched over a record book at his desk, was disturbed by a sharp knock on the door and the entry of a Steel Inquisitor - a sight almost legendary to the lower ranks of the Empire's bureaucracy. Surprise turned swiftly to concern, as the Inquisitor turned to the Prelan, and fixed him with a stare, all the more terrifying for the absence of eyes. "Prelan." He spoke, and let the silence build. "It has come to the attention of the Canton of Inquisition that your organisation's grip on the affairs of Fadrex has become irresponsibly loose." The Inquisitor paused, and then turned, gesturing to the darkness outside the small window overlooking the Prelan's desk. "Corruption is rife, naturally, but we have heard rumour of indolence in your record-keeping concerning the skaa plantations." A cold smile grew. "The Lord Patresen so very kindly informed us, upon our... questioning, of skaa escaping his lands, and of no small number of boxings changing hands to avoid scrutiny of this inconvenient fact. You will, no doubt, understand why this concerns us." Stepping forward, now unpleasantly close to the Prelan, the voice continued: "We have men to deal with the skaa. They shall be reminded of their place, worry not about that." Placing an unyielding, firm hand on the shoulder of the Prelan, he finished: "You have your own misdeeds to concern you." A body fell, and the Inquisitor turned, and left the room. Welcome to QF45: To Set an Example! STINK shall be my esteemed co-GM. This is an almost entirely vanilla game. There are two factions; the Skaa Thieving Crew, and the Obligators sent to infiltrate their ranks, and put the terror of the Lord Ruler into the hearts of those who might oppose him. The Obligators have a doc within which to plot, and a kill every cycle. Cycles will last 24 hours, with rollover at midnight BST (UTC+1). PMs will be open, but must include myself. Group PMs are disallowed. There will be no roles beyond your alignment. The major chance from normal games is that voting each cycle is compulsory. STINK's compassion is greater than mine, and I have been required to grant each player two "grace" cycles throughout the game, to account for issues that may spring up in your personal lives. If you fail to vote for three cycles during the game, you will die. Tied lynches shall be decided randomly between the players with the most votes. The game will begin in just over 7 days, at 00:01 BST on Sunday the 21st June. Quicklinks
  5. My apologies, Pyro. Just to check, why can't you kill me?
  6. I was outed? When? I thought we agreed to keep my alignment quiet, Pyro. What's the point in busing the three of you if you go and reveal my alignment?...
  7. Can I suggest the village coinshot kills either Pyro or Fura? If the eliminators have a lurcher, it doesn't seem sensible to let them know which we're asking to be targeted.
  8. a shame, really, that it wasnt someone we didnt already know was evil. alas.
  9. Post analysis up to this point. I had hoped to break this down by player, and work through them. Will do so tomorrow, as doubt we'll get much of use out of the rest of this cycle. Summary for those who can't be bothered to read it (there are easter eggs in there. Please read it. it took hours). Straw, Pyro, Fura pretty clearly evil. Think BR and Shard of Reading also likely evil as a result. It would be nice if scanners and vigilantes hit these people today, if they feel kind. Whole set of village reads in my analysis - read it! I'll summarise better when it isn't 2:30am and when I do the posts by player.
  10. If Straw is evil, as I believe him to be, I'm pretty convinced that BR and Shard are evil. Pyro I am absolutely convinced is evil either way. Another long post being worked on, will follow at some point in the next four hours.
  11. I'll engage with the idea and with the end of last cycle and the result when I've had another coffee, but to aid your conversation can confirm that Wilson is, indeed, a gossip.
  12. I'm afraid I haven't caught all the way up, but it is 2am, and I really do not have the energy to get through the last 25 or so posts. NAI 13 D1 13 Karnage Suggests we need to get rid of 7-8 constables if Straw to be believed. Questions whether Elkanah's joke about dispersing was a sign for future constables. Less likely that Straw and Karnage on the same team if one evil. Think genuine uncertainty around constables, but unclear. Very mild village 14 D1 14 Matrim Also questions whether Elkanah's joke was serious. Very marginally less likely Matrim and Karnage on the same team if either evil. I think the attempted lynch on God King by a number of players involved in this circle was opportunism. Lynching Straw, for me, gives very high quality information on a set of players I am suspicious of.
  13. Next post will be in a couple of hours at least. I'm shortly to make myself supper, and as you can imagine, taking these notes is a time consuming process. With regards to your views on new player confusion, I agree that it can be faked, absolutely. I'm not sure that it can be faked well easily. This is where judgement and gut come in, I suppose, and my judgement tells me that the confusion from the two of them was genuine.

  16. To the contrary, Straw. My philosophy has long been that the village always needs to address the information imbalance with eliminators - in fact, that is the core mechanic of the game. A day one lynch based on suspicion is highly unlikely to be accurate - the suspicions are based on limited information, and limited connection between players. Day one therefore ought to be about finding as much information as possible, and identifying as many connections between players as we can. The lynch on you has done this to a degree - we will be able to look through the thread and identify those who have supported you, and those who have not done so. This information is useful in isolation, certainly, but becomes significantly more useful when we know your alignment. If we had reasonable and material suspicion of another player, then I agree that that would be a sound lynch. We do not, and therefore validating our information on a set of players with your alignment is in my mind, at present, the most useful lynch we can undertake. I am on a 5 minute break from a meeting - I shall pull together those connections with regards to your defence and lynch post meeting to illustrate this.
  17. I'm in Board meetings all until the evening today, but in the interests of getting another comment out before I sit down to do a proper analysis this evening: A significant part of the discussion this cycle has been on Straw. We've had a string of players vote on him, and a set of players come to his defence. A day one lynch should always be about information gathering. As much as I've been incredibly impressed by Straw's activity and engagement, the number of interactions he has had with other players suggests to me that we could generate a significant amount of information on D1 by lynching him at this point.
  18. Summary below the multiquote. Nothing to say here on your thoughts, DeTess, but just wanted to say hi - it has been too long. Emphasis mine. You wanted to know why I voted on you - pretty sure this was what threw my gut off. Why "probably" @Straw? Can anyone with more experience playing with Coda tell me if this sort of platitude is typical of them? It strikes me as a bare faced attempt to appear village. @Coda, why bother with that comment? What did you mean by a sign for future constables, @Karnage? Useful but entirely NAI post from Xino. I'm always a little wary of people trying to hide behind this sort of post. @xinoehp512, plenty more has now been said in thread. Thoughts on any players? Particularly interested in your thoughts on Straw, Coda, and Pyro. Strong village read from Emi's in thread posts. @The Young Pyromancer, this has been addressed, but my philosophy is that as villager the most important thing to do is to generate useable information about your alignment and your views on other people. Inactivity both reduces information about your alignment, but also reduces our observations about your interactions with others. @Straw, do you genuinely believe Matrim was actually trying to get a lynch train on you with a post like that? Quoting this mostly because I missed it prior to voting on Straw, in my rushed skim of the thread. @Matrim's_Dice, fancy moving your vote back onto Straw so we generate further information? Your present poke vote is highly unlikely to do anything. Strong gut read against Pyro based on this post. Promised summary: Village: Emi Concerned about: Xino, Coda Very concerned about: Straw, Pyro Also, I was hoping some of you might have missed me enough to actually PM me...
  19. Gut, partly, but mostly because a three vote lunch is much harder to shift than a two vote lynch, and I'm curious to see what happens to this one.
  20. A longer post to follow once I've had a chance to read and digest the rules and thread properly, but for now, very happy to add some pressure to Straw.
  21. Locke Tekiel woke in the early evening, his head pounding and his vision clouded. He was in an alley, mud splattered over his cloak, and with his purse, belt buckle, and clasp all conspicuously absent. As Locke struggled upright, he clutched his side, noting with surprise a shiv implanted therein. At this realisation, a sharp pain began, clearing his fogged mind. He could now vaguely recall his attacker; a skaa agitator, no doubt, desperate to prevent him from reaching the appeal. Highly competent though his legal team were, with a purity of ancestry unrivalled in Elendel's less costly chambers, The Lord Tekiel had no doubt that his absence would cause them considerable consternation, and jeopardise this most critical of hearings. Removing the blade with practised ease, Locke lurched out of the alley into a wider street, slowly regaining his posture, grace, and measured gait. Pleased to be feeling more like himself, he stopped a well dressed gentleman passing by, to enquire as to the time, date, and status of the appeal; it had dominated the headlines of late, and surely would be known about by those worth talking to within the city. To his great distress, it was not the 29th Doxil 68, nor even Doxil, and the poor young man he was addressing clearly had no idea about this case, nor any other of note. Locke sighed, frustrated at his apparent demise on the eve of such an important event, but he hadn't often survived such wounds, and it has been optimistic of him to assume that this time would be any different. Removing a coin purse from a hidden pocket within his cloak, Locke resolved to find a decent meeting house; if he had arrived in this time and place, something interesting must be about to occur. ~~~~~ I shall sign up as Locke Tekiel.
  22. I'd like to join, but have an essay due on Tuesday, which I'll need to prioritise. I'll leave it to Fifth's good judgement on whether he'd like me to play or to pinch hit.
  23. For the sake of clarity, the Spiked thing wasn't what gave away Fura, Bard and Jondesu to me. Fura was, as she's identified, trying too hard with too little output. Jondesu similarly, in my recollection, hadn't committed to enough, whilst still being semi-active and experienced. Bard was much more gut than either of the other two.
  24. In case I die tonight, I'd very much like to see Jondesu lynched tomorrow. If we have any living lurchers left, they really should protect Nohadon. @xinoehp512, @Araris Valerian, @Rathmaskal, @Coop772, @Shqueeves, @Aonar Faileas, @A Joe in the Bush, @Nohadon Could our seeker, should they exist, please scan Bard tonight? I'm pretty firm in my belief that Jondesu and Furamironind are both evil, with Fura being an eliminator thug. That said, I'm pretty confident that they have both a soother and a tineye, so there has to be one other eliminator. At present, Bard is my best guess. I'd also suggest they come clean with the list of all their scans tomorrow - being able to clear villagers will make the end game much easier.
