  1. When I initially read that ad in the newspaper, I assumed that K and N were kind of checking in on Harmony. They most likely know that He is currently trying to keep Odium at bay, but they know that Odium knows how to splinter Shards. I thought that they were checking for splinters, similar to spren on Roshar, which could become shardblades and talk to those they were bonded to. No doubt they are probably worried because Sazed holds two shards, so if He can't hold of Odium, who can?
  2. Suicide bombing assassinations? I wouldn't put it past the Set... What I thought about is that you said that ettmetal reacts to liquids by exploding, but wouldn't coating a piece of it require you to coat it in liquid metal? I'm not saying that it can't happen, I'm just pointing out that we only know that it explodes on contact with water, not other substances (like, say... stomach acid?). If it doesn't explode on contact with liquid metal, it could be possible that it could be burned allomantically. (though in my opinion, I kind a doubt it... sorry).
  3. I can just imagine a fullborn breaking the speed of light by compounding nicrosil to superboost steel and pewter alomancy, storing almost all of their weight in an ironmind, and then superboosting duralumin as they push off Scadrial's core
  4. While Bleeder would have been weaker Feruchemically, that would have simply made it so she had to use up more speed to compensate for the decreased overlap efficiency. She could have simply stored a lot of speed to do this. Additionally, I remember seeing a theory that if you were to hemalurgically steal a feruchemical ability from a person then you would be able to use their metalmind stores since you stole the part of their spiritweb that the metalminds were attuned to (I don't know if it was proven or disproven). If that was the case, Bleeder could have also used the stores of the ferring she stole from. I don't think that it would be noticeable either way because it would just mean that she has to use up more of her speed stores, and we don't know how much she had anyway.
  5. I think that's probably the most viable outcome. However, if this is the case, then could a steel ferring obtain a hemalurgic spike granting them steel feruchemy in order to permanently boost their tapping efficiency?
  6. Yes, what happens when someone taps, say, steel feruchemy from a nicrosilmind at more than 100%?
  7. I might be able to help every once in a while. Is there a server set up for this project already?
  8. I agree that Lerasium doesn't have to have some amazingly overpowered Feruchemical ability, but I feel like it does need to balance against that of Atium's Feruchemical ability in some way simply because Feruchemy is the balance between those two shards. However, despite my feelings that it needs to be balanced, I think the most likely option is that there is some sort of contrast or balance between the Feruchemical powers of Atium and Lerasium, but Lerasium's ability is, as you said either useless or simply unusable due to its nature. It doesn't seem to me that Lerasium will ever come up as a Feruchemical option in the novels though...
  9. Oh my goodness, yes! This is my favorite thing to speculate and theorize on in relation to the world of Mistborn. The way that I see it, there is Investiture (capital I) and there is investiture (lowercase i). Investiture is the ability to perform Allomancy or Feruchemy in certain metal(s), and investiture is the power stored or gained through performing those arts. Nicrosil stores Investiture (capital I). Regardless of whether or not TLR used nicrosil or whether or not you consider it compounding, Nicrosil should work just as any other Feruchemical metal, meaning you can tap the nicrosilmind at a faster rate for more Allomantic Investiture (capital I) boosting your Allomancy. I started a similar thread digger deeper into the basic compounding mechanics between the three arts, even including Hemalurgy if anyone wants to check it out here:
  10. It seems difficult to classify what a strong or a weak Feruchemist might be, as Feruchemy is supposed to be end-neutral. When Feruchemists tap their metalminds at higher rates than they were stored at, some of that stored power is used to increase the rate at which the power is tapped. For example, if I stored 50% of my speed for 2 hours, I would be able to tap to get 2 hours of 150% speed but I could not tap at 200% for a full hour. I would maybe get 50-55 minutes of 200% speed. The way that I have always thought about it, which a lot of people don't agree with me on, is that "stronger" Feruchemists would not use as much of their stored power to tap at higher rates. So, in the above example if I were a"weak" Feruchemist, I may be able to tap for 200% speed for 50 minutes while a "strong" Feruchemist could tap for 200% speed for, say, 55 minutes. This way, a "strong" Feruchemist gets more out of it than the "weak" Feruchemist, but investiture levels remain the same. Another good question would be what would make a Feruchemist stronger or weaker than other. I believe that Feruchemists who gained their abilities through Hemalurgy would be considered weaker (duh), and it may be possible to increase ones strength in Feruchemy through Hemalurgic spikes on top of ones own Feruchemical abilities.
  11. Jasnah's blade seems to be distorting... Do you think that's what it would look like cutting through living matter? That's what it reminds me of, but I don't know why it would be distorting here...
  12. I don't think so... F iron taps only weight, and I'm pretty sure there is a WoB that mentions that the weight does not increase strength as well. Similarly, I believe that increased strength would not help store health. If you remember, when Wayne stores health he gets sniffles or is slightly sick, which would not change with increased strength.
  13. It's possible... but if I'm remembering correctly I don't think that a feruchemist shrinks in size when they store strength, so I think the growth simply comes from the body trying to replicate the strength being drawn from the metalminds. Lol, but even as I write this I'm confusing myself about the mechanics of it. Just to clarify, I don't think tapping pewter increases weight, and I think the size is only a side effect of tapping more strength from the metalmind than the body can handle without increasing the size of the muscles.
  14. Yeah, my original idea was that Lerasium feruchemy had something to do with FAC, but I got confused on what that would store/tap, and I couldn't come up with any ideas that made sense. It seems to me like it should store something opposite of Atium, but I don't know that it makes sense that Lerasium would store something like youth. Though it makes theoretical sense, atium storing the body's decay and lerasium storing its preservation, it would defeat the purpose of TLR using atiumminds, since there were most likely 16 lerasium beads. I think we should continue to pursue ideas about feruchemical lerasium. Lastly, are we 100% sure that TLR didn't know about all of the allomantic metals? It seems to me like we would have found out about al the metals when he Ascended because Sazed almost immediately told Spook that there were other allomantic metals. Because if there is no WOB, then there is still a possibility that TLR knew about nicrosil. Plus, there is the idea of the Bands of Mourning. Whoever made the Bands (it seems like either TLR or Kelsier at this point) knew about nicrosil feruchemy.
  15. Plus, we already see Lerasium being used as an Allomantic universal whenever Vin burns the mists
  16. So like tapping Lerasium could make you more sane? If so, they would be less susceptible to Ruin's touch so that may be close...
  17. Love this idea! Great job! I just want to point out that we already know that the ettmetal can indeed be used to replicate feruchemy. This was on pages 401-402 of BoM: So we know ideas like this would work, though they would require they may be impractical because of the amount of energy needed to power them (ettmetal's power). Also, it is interesting to think that a ship could store its weight... would the weight go into a metalmind, or would the ettmetal simply replicate the decrease in weight the Feruchemist uses to charge the device rather than actually using Feruchemy?
  18. Coppermind: Just clarifying that atium cannot steal "everything", but it can steal any Hemalurgic attribute. Connection to Preservation is not a Hemalurgic property that we know of as of yet, but it is true that stealing allomancy may have the side effect of increasing one's connection to Preservation. Though I think instinctive knowledge of bind points would be neat, I don't think that is a side effect as the Inquisitors would have known that atium could steal any hemalurgic attribute immediately during their experimentation. There is a problem with the idea that a blank atium spike would grant abilities in that using a blank spike would not grant power, but steal it from you. Now, the bind point may be different for granting and stealing powers, making me wrong, but with all the possible things atium can steal, there are a plethora of bind points, and someone would have to be very precise if they did not want to inadvertently steal an ability from themself (Or are the abilities only stolen when the spike is removed?). As for Trellium, I have not read SOS in a while, so I don't really remember much about it, but it granted kandra to steal allomancy and feruchemy yes? I also found it peculiar that only one spike was used to grant feruchemy/allomancy, as two were needed to grant human abilities to the kandra. To me, it is sounding more and more like that spike was made of atium. More power form atium spikes = less spikes needed for power, atium stealing/granting any hemalurgic attributes... The problems being that I don't remember the description of the spike being anything close to atium, and Trell is hinted at quite frequently. So, Trellium has similar hemalurgic qualities to atium, but whether it is because they are both god metals or some other reason is not certain.
  19. Rereading what I wrote I realize that I worded it wrong... by Hemalurgist I was referring to someone who is spiked, or someone who uses Hemalurgy, which I know is redundant, I was just trying to compare to how Lerasium turns people into Allomancers. My point in bringing this up was to show that atium does not have a side effect comparable to lerasium's granting of allomantic power, so there is a possibility of an alternate side effect.
  20. I thought about that a little bit... its makes sense that Harmonium can be tapped without storing, as we can see that it has innate energy already. As for atium, I was thinking about how lerasium made someone a Mistborn, but with atium, the innate ability would... make the user a Hemalurgist? It doesn't seem like that would be it, but you're right, and I think it should have some sort of innate investiture. Back to Harmonium, I was thinking, if Lerasium can give any allomantic power and Atium can steal any attribute, can Harmonium be tapped for any feruchemical attribute without storing? Or possibly, could you, say, store speed in a steelmind, transfer the stored investiture to the Harmonium, and tap the Harmonium for another attribute? It doesn't really follow Feruchemy mechanics, but it's an interesting idea.
  21. In The Well of Ascension we see Lerasium burned by Elend so that he becomes a Mistborn of extremely powerful Investiture. However, Brandon has said in his notes that this is simply a side effect of burning Lerasium, not the main effect. Now, I'm not sure if someone else made a topic on this already (I tried looking but couldn't find anything), but it seems fairly obvious to me what that function is. When burned, Lerasium should be able to be used in place of any allomantic metal reserve (i.e. I could burn Lerasium as a mistborn and, if I chose, get extra strength, speed, and balance as if I were burning very pure allomantic pewter). Here is my evidence... Lerasium is related to Preservation and is thus linked to Allomancy. Its opposite, Atium, is related to Ruin and Hemalurgy. So, if we see how Atium acts in Hemalurgy, it may give us a clue about how Lerasium acts in Allomancy. As a Hemalurgic spike, Atium steals any attribute/Investiture, so Lerasium in my mind should at likewise. Throughout the original Mistborn trilogy, Vin draws in the mists, the gaseous form of Lerasium, and burns them for super heightened Allomantic strength, such as when her Allomantic steel power can see the Lord Rulers bands even though they are heavily invested (and maybe pierce his skin? I don't remember...). However, toward the end of Hero of Ages, Vin draws the mists in her fight against Marsh and burns Lerasium in this way, gaining other allomantic powers by only burning the mists. I don't have a physical copy of the novel, so I can't quote directly from the book, but that is how I remember that scene happening. However, this brings up another question. If Atium and Lerasium both perform all functions within their respective systems, can Harmonium do the same within Feruchemy, storing and tapping any attribute (that can be stored and tapped through other metals)? Harmonium is ettmetal, so it may be difficult to keep a Harmonium metalmind from exploding, making this theory unlikely, but I believe it needed to be discussed. Again, I don't know if someone else came to this conclusion already, I assumed this was common knowledge until I could not find anything on it.
  22. It's no problem really... Thank you for looking! True... I had not thought of it from a more Realmatic reason as I do not know much in that area. However, could the resistance of each person's Soul be different from others? It would make sense that this would be a reason for Hemalurgic decay of Investiture because the part of the soul in the spike and the person's soul could cause some friction, and thus greater resistance. Okay, I agree that we do not know this, and I realize I probably made an unreasonable conclusion by applying that idea to every Investiture. It seems most logical to me that way, but I understand that it is far from sure.
  23. Can you link me to this, I had not heard that. That may change sone of my ideas... lol My point is that Brandon himself has said that Feruchemy is not 100% perfect. He has said that when you tap a metalmind at a greater rate than the trait was stored into it, some of the energy is used to "compound" (used purely in a feruchemical sense) the trait. For example, if a feruchemist stored 50% of their weight for 1 hour, then tried to tap 100% of their weight to double their weight, they would not get half the time (30 minutes), they would get, say, 25 minutes of tapping 100% weight. I don't think I understood this part...
  24. Okay, I see your idea, but where is that lost energy going? I don't think it can just disappear... Lets say Feruchemist A can store 100% of his weight for an hour and later tap 100% of his weight for an hour, with no loss of energy. Feruchemist B decides he wants to be able to store his weight, so he spikes Feruchemist A, and Hemalurgically grants himself that ability. Now, when Feruchemist B stores 100% of his weight for an hour, he can only tap 100% of his weight back for around 53 minutes, or 90% of his weight for an hour. We can agree on this, yes? Again, like with the other types of compounding, our difference is in the the two types of investiture. Your idea is based on investiture (lowercase "i"), or that the actual power of a feruchemical charge decays and is lost to Hemalurgy, while my idea is based on Investiture (capital "I"), in that the mechanics of the Feruchemical system are less powerful due to Hemalurgic decay. Both of our ideas have the same results, as shown above, but the mechanics are different. Well, that and I believe that it could go the other way. Here is my argument in favor of greater Feruchemical Investitures: Feruchemy is an Investiture, and thus, it can be stored in a Nicrosilmind. By the mechanics of Feruchemy, metalminds can be tapped at different rates for different strengths of the quality stored in the metalmind. So, if someone were to tap a Nicrosilmind stored with another Feruchemical Investiture at a larger rate than the rate at which they stored, or if the burned the metalmind, then they must be more powerful in that Feruchemical metal. Plus, Feruchemy is about balance... I don't there would be a way to be weaker in Feruchemy if there wasn't also a way to be stronger.
