@Wander89 Fingers crossed I do! I should get on that after my AoL reread. Chugging through Shadows of Self right now lol. I missed Wax and Wayne. Thanks! Even if her excessive wildness made her almost untrainable lol. I'm hoping my kestrel won't be that bad. My first bird was TOO tame. Jadz wanted to eat my eyeballs. I would like something inbetween that this time.

The chain rule thing made the light bulb turn on! I think! That makes a lot more sense. Now I have to figure out how to do some of these application problems. This is the one that's really stumping me. I admit I guessed my way through the first part of this, but I have no idea how to do the second, since there's three (?) variables?

@Araris Valerian thank you! I vaguely understand u-substitution, to the point where I can get the first problem. However, I'm mostly confused on where the 1/3 came from. With the first problem I used the powers of x formula, but on the second and third problem the solution work has a 1/3 before the integral. I'm not sure where that comes from? Would it be possible for you to write down the e equations by hand and take a picture? My brain can't really wrap around how it's written there.

Haha, not intentional but I see what you did there! I named her Jadzia, but I'm pretty sure she should have been named Vin.

Y'all are smart here. Maybe someone can help me. I'm stuck in Mathematical Analysis II. For some reason. I still don't know what this has to do with my major, but I'm here, and I have a final next week. My teacher isn't the best, but I've been able to teach myself most of the material via our online homework. Everything but indefinite integrals. Integrals in general stump me, but definites I can do in my TI-84, so if all else fails on the final I can use that. But there's no way to do indefinites in the TI-84 (as far as I'm aware), and I have no idea how to do any of these by hand. I'm not sure what level of these will be on the final either. The final has 2 multiple choice problems and 4 short answer. I think there will be a few straight math problems, but this class in general is supposed to be business math, so I'm expecting more word problems. This isn't the only thing on the final either, but I'd be really upset with myself if I don't at least try to learn these and it ends up blowing my A. Here are some example problems she gave us specifically to study. I have the solutions to them too. I understand the first one okay, the rest make no sense. Under a spoiler for convenience, it's a large image. Anyway, maybe someone can help me with this? I've googled, gone to youtube, tried everything I can think of, and I always think I understand it, but when I go to the homework to do a real problem I can't solve it. edit: The homework is nasty stuff like this btw. She NEVER went over problems this challenging in class, and I honestly think she just assigned the homework without even looking at it. So I don't think the final will be this hard. But the homework is annoying.

I think we might have spoken a few times! Sadly my memory isn't the best and I don't remember a lot of people from here when I used to be active (and I'm not sure if they're still active, either). Haha, she was. Something. I still have scars on my hand from her. I have no doubt she's still out there in the wild after I released her. She was a survivor for sure.

haha yeah. I'm not holding out much hope though. But it's also not like I can go looking for another bird any time soon, so I'm fine to wait. I just hope my check actually... made it there lol. He was a sweetie! My second bird... not so much. She tried to kill me on a few occasions, in addition to going after the dog (golden retriever) and cat. There she is, in all her glory. 1300 grams of monster. Look at those feet! (under spoiler because the image is rather large)

Thank you @Rebecca! Ahhh I know! I just have started having trouble focusing on longer books. I really need to get back into it. I started listening to it on audio but the narrator's voice started putting me to sleep. Well, I'm working with the government and we know how fast that can be. My apprentice permit took about... three weeks to process? I don't remember exactly, that was three years ago. Good to hear! And thank you, his name was Revali. He was my first bird and will always have a place in my heart. Later this afternoon I'll dig up my falconry thread and type up some updates, I think.

*scoots in here after being inactive for about a decade* Hiiiii I started rereading Alloy of Law and I forgot how much I loved Cosmere. Hopefully I am back here for a bit longer now. I am all over the place in my life right now, but this was honestly one of the best places I've ever been on the internet so I need to be here more. (It also seems like this thread isn't very active anymore, I hope I'm not necroing lol) Sadly I still have not finished Oathbringer. Un-sadly I just applied for my general falconry permit, so fingers crossed that comes in soon <3 totally hasn't been feverishly checking my email every hour I'll be changing my pace this season and flying a kestrel instead of a red-tail. How has everyone else been here? also have a borb

I work at a vet clinic, kenneling dogs. For finding the job, or any job, I asked around. My former job at Papa Murphy's I got from a friend who was already working there; they needed someone else and she put in a good word for me. For the vet clinic, I already had extensive experience working with dogs and cats at a shelter, not to mention my work with raptors intrigued my boss enough to get an interview. Pretty much, apply everywhere you possibly can. It took me months to get my current job, but I applied at every vet clinic within ten miles of my house, some even twice. Its a serious commitment and I know it can get discouraging when people don't call you back but keep at it.

Yes. In the United States a falconer may take a juvenile bird from the wild with a state issued falconry license. Your permit class (apprentice, general, or master license) determines what birds you can and cannot take from the wild, and this varies state by state. As an apprentice the sponsor also has a final say in the bird (ie: my sponsor told me specifically no kestrels, even though I can have one as a Texas apprentice). Rev and I hit the road this weekend to the Texas Hawking Association meet in Abilene! We saw tons of raptors, met falconers of all classes, and found some potential hunting partners not too far from home. All sorts of birds were there, mostly red-tailed hawks, harris hawks, and peregrines, but there were also ferruginous hawks and even a gyrfalcon! We had super fun. Didn't catch a thing, though, on all the hunts I went on. We met up with another group of falconers for the day and helped them flush game for their cast (group) of harris hawks, then they helped me fly Rev. The harrises had three quail chases and one bunny chase, and Rev had two awesome rabbit chases and he... well. Caught an armadillo. Didn't kill it; it got away completely unscathed, leaving my confused hawk in the middle of the field.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Kestrel replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
What a cutie! Honestly, I don't work with Merlins as they aren't common in Texas, but a quick google image search and I think its a female? but they're close to identical. It could also be a young bird, or passage, which would have a different plumage color than an adult. I really don't know, though. -
Well, I've long since left that really bad wheel of time rp group but A few days ago the really bad admin gave me a deviantart core membership for my birthday. As much as I love free stuff, I seriously wish they would leave me alone, as its obvious I'm never coming back to their website anyway. :/

As mesBefore said, its in the FAQ. He comes back to me because I feed him. However, its important to note that its a gamble every time I release him. Depending on the weather (temperature, wind, etc) and his weight, he might not come back no matter how hard I try to call him. The hotter it is the less he needs me to feed him (metabolism of birds slows in the summer), and if its too windy he could catch a thermal, which carries him up, to a point where he wouldn't respond to me anymore.
-
I don't let him fly around the house! He has his own enclosure in the backyard where he can move around, and I fly him free in fields and the like. When in the house he is either tethered to me or tethered to a perch. Edit: in the beginning of the training, I had him fly in the house but he was attached to a tether called a creance. he was never unsupervised on it, so nothing was broken.

DAILY ROUTINE: weight Revali requires daily weighing, sometimes twice a day if I do not weigh his food. What he eats is closely monitored, and this makes sure he is ready to fly and hunt. If he is too heavy, he won't respond to me as easily. If he is too light, he might not have the strength to hunt. It is a careful balance. Today we also caught another rat!
