Indeed. I think it likely that he both absorbs heat, and magnifies it within him. Which is why he can absorb the heat from a plant, and project an incinerating blast that must be far hotter than the plant could ever be.

Actually, it would be more Iconoclast's MO to infiltrate the city, posing just as an Epic with the ability to alter his body and regenerate (I'm thinking that I will expand the body alteration to cover making him look like a completely different person. Not precise enough to really mimic someone, but enough to be unrecognisable from his previous self). Then once he is inside, start plotting how he can best take down the city. His plans usually involve copious amounts of Ghouls. He wouldn't besiege a city from the outside, as he doesn't bring many Ghouls with him when he travels (often none). I am starting to picture him as Heath Ledger's Joker, but with cannibal servants and really hard to kill. Appearing, disappearing, causing wanton havoc and destruction. Taunting victims, ranting madly. That sort of thing. Maybe he positions himself near Bubbles and turns some people into Ghouls, causing them to threaten her and thus bring down the shield? and perhaps he made a deal with the Epic who attacks Euphoria? Iconoclast goes for Bubbles, the other goes for Euphoria? from my understanding, his weakness is being humiliated in public by an attractive woman. So, if Megan had of humiliated him in public, in front of his gang, he would have lost his powers. Probably there was an incident that set up this weakness, on top of his fear of rejection and desire to control women.

on reflection, I agree. She could just commit suicide to explode. Maybe make her limited with how much energy she can hold at one time? I mean, energy conversion is an incredibly useful and versatile ability. Already, any impacts from any source are absorbed, any fire/lightning/energy blasts/lasers flung at her are absorbed, any acid or water thrown at her can be robbed of friction, making them slide off completely. and then she can take all this energy and project it as ny form she likes. She can be punched, and then electrocute you, she can be shot with a laser and then throw something at you super hard, charged with kinetic energy. Its not a problem to have an op Epic, of course, in fact there are tonnes of them haha. I just recommend a limitation or two that makes her less powerful than an Epic that we already know is considered one of the most powerful. Perhaps she has to get rid of stored energy very quickly? so, she can only hold it for a few minutes? That means that during a fight, she is fine, doing all this crazy awesome stuff, and if attacked, even by surprise, she can absorb the energy of any attack and fight back. But she couldn't just sit in the sun all day absorbing it. She could drain a reactor dry (although there aren't many left, I'd think), but have to expend it pretty quickly soon afterwards. Just a suggestion, I'm new here too haha

I was thinking tht we can figure out roughly how powerful Obliteration's explosions are (the week-long sun bathing ones he used to destroy Houston et.al) with maths and science! Both for fun and to see how accurate Sanderson's science is haha Now, first we need to calculate the surface areas of his torso and arms. To do so, I calculated his whole body surface area- assuming since he was described as tall and thinnish, an above-average height of 72" and a below-average weight of 80kg. I got the figure of 2.02m squared. I then looked up the porportion of body area taken up by each body section, and added together what would be the uncovered sections of his body- torso, face, and arms. I got the figure of 49.5%. Therefore, the surface area of these parts combined is roughly 1m squared. Looking around, I found this helpful paragraph, nicely performing calculations for 1 square metre. "We can also turn the σT4 relation on its head and say that a patch of full sun (at the ground) receiving 1000 W/m² corresponds to a radiant temperature of 364 K, or a blistering 91°C. This means that a black panel in full sun could get this hot if no paths other than radiation were available for cooling the panel. We would then say that the panel is in radiative equilibrium with the Sun. But air can carry away heat by convection. The self-convection of a hot, flat plate will be about 10 W/m² per degree of difference between the panel and the surrounding air. Requiring the sum of radiative and convective losses to add up to the input power of 1000 W/m² yields a solution of about 55°C (328 K; 131°F) if the surrounding air is at 20°C. " Source: http://physics.ucsd.edu/do-the-math/2012/01/basking-in-the-sun/ Since we know Obliteration loses heat through a glow and by giving it off passively, it is accurate to use the second measurement. (this is over an hour, btw) Therefore, to find the amount of heat Obliteration is absorbing, we just need to multiply 55 by the hours he spends in the sun. To find this, I decided to continue using solar panel terminology, by reducing each day to its "Peak Sun Hours", which is the amount of energy supplied to solar panels per day expressed as a number of hours, if each hour supplied 1000W/m squared of energy. I've used the figure of 5, which seems accurate: http://www.letitgo.com.au/solar-engineering/19--estimating-solar-system-yields.html Therefore, over a week, we can assume Obliteration absorbs 55*(7*5) degrees celsius worth of heat, for a grand total of 1925 degrees (3497 FH, 2198.15 K), wow that is hot. however, it actually isn't that hot as explosions go, certainly not the nuclear effect described in Firefight. for example, 1 Kiloton of explosives produces 2203148279.94 degrees Celsius of heat, and the Hiroshima bomb was between 12-18 kTs. There is no way such an amount of heat destroyed all of Houston. I guess, however, that perhaps Obliteration can project more heat than he absorbs? After all, Epic powers defy physics all the time haha. In that case, he could increase the amount of heat by an unknown margin, and conceivably match any nuclear bomb in heat.

That would certainly make her weaker than Obliteration in the sense that she has less control than he does. Idea for High Epic: Name: The Iron Ogre Primary Power: Can turn into a giant, bestial, iron-skinned humanoid at will, very reminiscent of the Hulk, but made out of iron. Incredibly strong and essentially invincible in this form (the iron is much stronger than normal iron, and has full flexibility). Cannot transform if he is calm, he has to be feeling a strong negative emotion of some sort. Secondary: Can shoot lasers from his eyes, but only in iron ogre form. (because why not?) Maybe he is defeated by Euphoria hitting him with happiness, that overwhelms his anger and he calms down, if only for a few seconds, and transforms back into human form. Then he quickly gets taken down before he can realise what happened. Ideas for epic bodyguards: Name: Mammoth Primary: Super strength Secondary: Increased density, endurance, and toughness (like Puenos in Firefight, not invincible but very hard to damage). Name: Firefly Primary: Can create glowing balls of sparks that do several things- explode, glow powerfully, heal, cut, burn, pull things down and lift things. Secondary: Minor precognition: can tell several seconds in advance if danger is incoming, but not from where, and not in what form. Constantly tingling in a fight, so only useful for a few seconds of advance warning of a threat.

I'm honestly impressed he has managed to keep control so long. how does he get Epics to serve him? Most seem to hate the very idea of vanillas daring to contradict any Epics, let alone be equals or command them.

Her backstory is a tad inconsistent with how we know Epics are transformed - Calamity appears to them, and they go on a Rending, where they kill and destroy with the full extent of their powers for a few hours.

id also be wary making her as powerful, or moreso, than Obliteration. I feel like Oblit would lose some of his shine and fear in the books if she had what is essentially a better version of his powers.

Yeah, I thought that's how the power worked- like Conflux, but instead of electricity it is happiness/positivity. so she gifts the power to grant happiness to vanillas who work for her, to limit her exposure to danger.

Ideas for bubble epic name: -Castle -Entrenchment -Domesky (from inside, the sky is her dome) -Shieldsky -Shieldmaiden I was thinking that might be the case. Meh, they could still team up to defeat a common threat, both planning to betray and kill the other at first convenience. oh yes, i like that! This is the exact sort of place Connie would want to destroy haha. A place with zero freedom, and total security? The exact opposite to how he likes it haha. why thank you what if rainmaker is just plain old impenetrable, like Steelheart? or her body is made of water and when hit, it just breaks apart and immediately reforms? Sort of like healing, but so quick its like she is intangible. Like she is made of rain, and the rain falls onto place to cover any wounds. How about Iconoclast tries to assassinate her (the exact thing he would do, to cause max chaos), but fails, and she gets spooked and flees? Or he comes close, and she is separated from her guards, but is too scared to return? what if, like Conflux, she is a gifter, and she stays hidden, using her gifting agents like banks of positive feelings to hand out to people? That way her agents can be sll over the city, cheering things up, and she can remain safe somewhere? and it is a very useful power, epics wouldn't want to pass it up. Other than Iconoclast, of course, who has no interest in ruling haha.

Hmmm that is true, although Lightwards is a necromancer with an army of zombies, isn't he? Regardless, I don't want to mess up any plot lines haha oooh an entire CITY would be cool.... I'm just chuffed that you guys are even considering starting an RP for him :3 But I agree, his far-reaching effects mean that you can't ignore him at all. If he is in town, ghouls and chaos spread pretty quickly too. He would work with Ligthwards in two circumstances, 1)a very short-term thing when faced with a powerful common enemy, or 2)if Lightwards gave up this whole "building an empire" thing and agreed to simply cause chaos with him. Connie hates empires and order, he won't be able to restrain himself from attacking Lightwards and his allies if they maintain any sort of Empire (like of Light, for instance). Not suggesting they actually DO stop empire-building, of course, but Connie is picky and anti-social haha I do like the idea though. What happened in australia? How about yes! Can I make an Epic that runs my home town haha? Like I said, I'm cool with waiting So chuffed haha tell me about it... australia gets boned sometimes hahaha that's weird, my name is also Liam

I like the Dallesport idea. There could be a place for Iconoclast there too, perhaps, with him arriving in town around the time The Dalles decide to expand into it. He starts ghoulifying people and pretty soon it is a three-way war between the ghouls, the gangs/ruling Epics, and Shiny and co.

I just don't think they would go through the whole refusal process just to have David get an Epic power anyway. If David was going to secretly get a power, I feel like Brandon wouldn't have made such an epic moment out of his refusal. David would have been like "oh no i'm an epic, going to drown myself!" then not seen any evidence of powers and thought "oh, it musn't have worked" or something. and there is still the problem of Prof gifting him. It makes no sense for an Epic who has overcome there fear to be able to be gifted to, there just isn't any connection.
-
I agree completely. Maybe there was evidence of his Rending, but maybe they only connected it to him after the Annexation. Maybe he wiped out a small town, or it was the dead of night and he was just a flying blur of destruction, not too different from any other flying Epic's Rending until you sort out the details and certainly conflicting accounts. and then, the likely answer is that Brandon hadn't made up Rendings yet, and so hadn't factored them into his first book. ah well.

Yeah, with the epic who can only be harmed by exactly 6 people, maybe in his/her past they were attacked by a gang of six people, and robbed/beaten/raped/etc, and if it was nigth maybe they saw no faces or features, just six, interchangeable, identical shapes. And they always feared those six shadows, six silhouettes, so whenever they are attacked by six people they have a flashback and imagine that those six are the same six from that night long ago. I guess the same for the epic whose weakness was someone aged 36. Maybe something horribly traumatic happened when they were 36, on their birthday. and the age reminds them of it. sometimes the weakness is just a symbol of the fear, a reminder of it, as opposed to the fear itself.
-
meh, i think that is too meta of a power. There is no precedent for it. No other Epic power we have ever encountered or heard of is a meta-power- as in, a power that affects or relies on other Epic powers. You know, you could stick any one known Epic in out world and their powers would be unaffected- if we take your theory to be true, if David gets stuck in our world, he effectively has no powers, as he relies on other Epics.
-
I think David was too young to really know news. And when he got older, he was focused on Epics- bad, destructive ones, not supernatural glowing spray paint with no known cause.

But i think they would be very interested in other Epics, if they were smart- they need to fight and kill them, after all. I mean, it just seems obvious that any smart Epic would immediately mke the connection once they found out their weakness, and then assume that other Epic weaknesses are likely fear-based as well. Mind you, they wouldn't at all want to reveal this to anyone, of course, in case they were wrong or it let them be defeated.

Hellfire was impatient. This fight was taking too long. Only minutes had passed since his arrival, but damnation it, that was too long! It was time to.... Heat things up. Chuckling at his own pun, Hellfire stood up, and threw his arms out to the side. Fire appeared, sprouting from his hands, his eyes, his very soul, forming hardened, carapace-like plates of spiked armour all over his body. Only his face he left uncovered, although he could cover it in an instant. Within 30 seconds, his armour was complete, and normal flames covered it, dancing around his shoulders and forming a crown at his brow. He was magnificent. With a cruel smile, he projected flames from his feet and palms, pointing down downwards, giving him the lift to fly. He shot into the air like a rocket, landing on the edge of the skirmish. As he landed he shot an explosive fireball at the ground, causing a loud bang and a huge plume of dust to shoot into the air, covering everything nearby. The dust settled, and Hellfire yelled, "Now, tell me which of you, if any, serves Queen Lucentia, so I know who to kill!" It was at this point that something big and blue fell out of the sky.
-
Hellfire smiled as Valve opened a portal. Peering through, he could see that it opened onto a quiet countryside. Well, technically it would always open onto a quiet scene- Valve's portals did not let sounds through. He was dressed in casual, civilian clothes, without his customary cape, or ostentatious costume. It mattered not- he could armour himself in flames relatively quickly, should the need arise. He carried no weapons, either, for he WAS a weapon. He had a plan- sneak in, learn all he could, and then devise a way to punish this Diamond Queen for daring to attack his land. Turning to Valve, he said, "Remember, have someone keeping an eye out for me, in both directions. If I have to find my own way back, because of your idiocy...." Valve gulped and bowed, "Of c-course not, your majesty! I'll be within earshot at all times!" Hellfire smiled, "See that you are." With that, he stepped through the portal, and realised that he had been quite wrong about the scene being quiet. He could hear gunshots and loud bangs, somewhere not far off behind him. He turned as the portal closed, and another two small ones opened up very close to the ground. He saw eyes pressed to them, and snickered at the thought of the servants who had to watch through all day and night for him to return. He briefly considered bursting alight to fly over and investigate, but decided that stealth was the best option for now. Fire would come later. He began jogging to the sounds of battle, seeing a small rise ahead of him. He crouched down, and slowly crawled up it until his eyes were just poking over the crest of the mound. With his heightened senses, he easily saw the details of the skirmish in front of him. Blood everywhere, tendrils of it flailing around like an octopus on a killing spree. Jeeps and armoured vehicles surrounded in forcefields- he hated forcefields- and all were firing. He could not see what at, at first, but then, eyes like a hawk, he spotted a head poking out of the ground. "What an interesting fight...." He said to himself, and waited, content to watch it unfold.
