As the court continued their dance off, one of the tall, icy doors slid open. As the various lords and ladies turned, a head peaked around the door and into the frosted room. "Oh! Um, hello!" squeaked the newcomer, a young lady in a flowing cloak of apple green. She slipped into the room, closing the door behind her. After checking that it was closed properly, she turned to the room's occupants and cleared her throat. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but is the this the Newcago Court, ruled by the illustrious queen Elsa?" All was quiet in the grand room, and the girl blushed at the attention. "So I, er, heard that this is the place to be..." she started. Before anyone had the chance to reply, she continued, words rushing out like swells in a brook. "I'm Brightness Random, a lighteyes who's new to the 17th Shard, though not to the work of Mr. Sanderson," the girl explained quickly, "It sounds really nice here in Newcago, and although I don't have much to offer, I'd like to pledge myself to her majesty." Taking a deep breath, Brightness Random fell to one knee and looked up the Queen. "Y-Your Majesty, Elsa Steelheart, First of Thy Name, Titan of Ice, Snowwarden, and um... um..." her brows knit in concentration for a moment before her eyes lit up, "Frozenborn! Yes, Frozenborn, Queen of Newcago and all Lands of the Seventeenth, I Brightness Random, do swear my humble, undying fealty to thee. I shall forevermore thee with the utmost fervency, till last I draw breath." With a sigh, she climbed to her feet, dusting the frost off her cloak. "I hate public speaking..." she murmured to herself. "So," she began, walking over to grab a mug of root beer from between Snoopy's hands, before sitting down atop one of the refreshment tables, "What's going on over here?"

Ah... I suppose that's almost forgivable then... What do you think of Sanderson Elimination? I think it looks like a lot of fun, but I have no experience with RPGs, and I don't know that I could find the time. It does look interesting though... Elsa, I'll happily accept your offer, given that there are no so called "cookies" in the batch of deliciousness... As for the root beer... Well, I'm a sucker for root beer. Do I just go to the Court and declare my allegiance, then? -

An un-spiked practitioner of hemalurgy? Well this is an interesting twist... I'm not sure you understand how similes work. They compare two things. You can't compare something to itself! It seems that David Charleston isn't the only one who's bad at similes... *scoffs* My simile is flawless... -

Queen Elsa, the Newcago Court looks like a fantastic clan! I'll definitely consider joining. Snoopy, that sounds like quite the story, but what I want to know is how in Harmony's name you switched sides like that. You just "realized one day that you and your sworn enemies had a lot to offer each other" and switched sides? That would be like Kaladin realizing that he and the Voidbringers both hated lighteyes and abandoning his oaths to go on a killing spree! How does that even happen?! Perhaps it was that voice in your head that convinced you, the one that's been whispering in your mind ever since you accepted that first concoction of chocolate chips and goodness from the DA. The one that whispered that an army of hemalurgic pandas in your own image would only be the beginning. All you'd have to do is take that first, single step into the darkness... just a slight change of alliances and you could learn the secrets of creation... just a single step... -

Oh how your cookie offering has changed! You sure jumped off board quickly when you discovered the DA, it seems. And I think the two bamboo cookies are quite different. Some are "alternatives to Hemalurgic Monstrosities" (I love that it's capitalized! ), and others are being used to gather the still un-refuted koloss army. (By the way, how can I get the top of the quote box to put my quote-ee's name and the date? I'm having trouble working it out.) EDIT: No double posting, Snoopy! What a noob... -

I'm sorry, Snoopy, but I must ask: Bamboo cookies? Because if you're making bamboo spikes and calling them "cookies", that's what they are. Is the DA taking a new "healthy eating" marketing approach? Also, I must point out, based on this WoB, your bamboo spikes may mean there really is something to those zucchini-born. We see the molecular structure of metals (or bamboo) allows for the channeling investiture, therefore, if you truly have discovered hemalurgic bamboo, it follows that other plants may hold similar potential. *sigh* I get a feeling that Hoid has already figured this out and has a beautiful vegetable garden on an otherwise uninhabited world... -

I'm not sure what to make of this. Bamboo used in hemalurgy? (I hate to break it to you, but bamboo is a plant, not one of the 16 metals.) Sentient Pandas through hemalurgy... What attribute would you even use for that? I apologize, but unless this is what Brandon has been hiding from us about feruchemical aluminum, I must hold your claim with skepticism. (...And I did pick up on how you conveniently didn't deny my claims about the koloss army the DA is gathering, simply changing the subject instead.) -

See!? This is exactly why I would consider joining the Society. Normally I would love to join an investiture heavy group, but when the DA's out there building an army of mindless koloss out of unsuspecting new members, it seems wiser to play it safe. Have you even discovered new types of hemalurgic creatures? ...I thought not. What types of scholars are you, using cookies to gather an army? -

Thank you, Lindel. The Society seems to be a fascinating clan. After a bit more reading, I'll strongly consider joining. Though I am a lighteyes, so your anti-noble policy may not go too well for me. The one thing that bothers me is that you decry using investiture in most of it's forms. How do you experiment and expand on your knowledge without using investiture? Do you rely on those you challenge, the powerful magic users, to learn about the outer reaches of what is possible? Other than that issue, it seems wonderful. Your simple life style has a charming appeal, and it would be nice to join a guild that doesn't rely on heavily spiked members to lead. Excuse me if I don't join quite yet, as I'm still looking around. -
I not in college quite yet, but I live near BYU and would love to get together with some other Cosmere fans. If this takes off, I'd love to be part of it.

Now I'm all conflicted. I'm more interested in how Ruin's influence and the potential for characters to gain new powers affect stories than spiking all the newbies, but the DA does seem like a fun group. Do you know if there's a club for puns and fan art? That may be slightly more... up my alley. -

It is curious how many mistborns there running around though. One would think they would be prime targets. (For marketing, of course. Even allomancers need delicious catered goods.) I've been poking around the Clans and Guilds page, but haven't been able to decide which to join. Any advice? The DA, being dedicated to hemalurgy, could be an interesting choice, but I think I should get to know the various factions better before jumping on board with any of them. Does the DA have any major allies or enemies? -

I suppose I'm just naturally curious. It just seems that there is a lack of skaa misting running around the forums... -

Hemalurgy is fascinating. I'm looking forward to learning more about it in future books. By the way, I've always wondered, where does the Dark Alley get all the *cough* materials needed for all those cookies? It seems you have an almost limitless supply of baked goods... -

Snoopy, I'm afraid I'll be having dinner soon, and so should avoid spoiling my appetite with snacks that may or may not hold a hemalurgic charge. Perhaps another time? I think Forgery is probably my favorite magic system. My dream is to become a master Forger and travel to Nalthis, where I will hijack everyone's awakenings by rewriting their history... -

Thanks for the tip, vineyarddawg! What about strangers with malicious intent? I think Words of Radiance would have to be my overall favorite, although trying to pick a favorite book is a bit like trying to choose a favorite organ. I don't think I could pick a favorite character... I really love them all. TenSoon, Vivenna, and Hrathen are all fascinating. Of course, so is everyone else. Thanks for the welcome, Queen Elsa! -
Hello, everyone! I've been poking around this beautiful site and chuckling at your brilliance for a few weeks now, and I've finally decided to commit to getting an account. So here I am! I'm a huge fan of Brandon's work and love learning new tidbits about the Cosmere. I like listening to Brandon's books in audiobook format as it allows me to doodle (I like trying to illustrate characters and scenes while listening), but I love reading them too. I'm looking forward to spending time here, and humbly offer the following pun: Q: Why couldn't the Knights Radiant find the Assassin in White? A: Because they were Truthwatchers!
