Famous People's Metalurgic Powers
Sirce Luckwielder replied to Sirce Luckwielder's topic in Mistborn
Hitler was a pretty intelligent guy, and you're right that Zinc Compounding would perhaps be too much form him, but that is in our world. If we were to place a Hitler-esque character on Skadrial, I think he would be double Zinc. It makes him a better villian, but also helps describe his insanity. Miles was pretty crazy and fanatical having basic immortality. Double Zinc would probably have a similar effect if he is so brilliant that he doesn't think he can be outwitted. -

Granted. They send it to you much in the way of Harry Potter: hundreds of filthy birds lay siege to your house and force hundreds of letters to accumulate in your home, burying you alive. I wish to be one of Brandon Sanderson's friends. He can talk to me about his works and I can learn all of the amazing things going on behind the scenes. Maybe we can also play some games every once in a while, who knows? -
This was a reply I made to the Zinc Compounding thread started by PrometheusLKR. The question I have is: what powers do you think famous people would have, those living and dead?

Zinc Compounding (aka Why Wasn't TLR Omniscient?)
Sirce Luckwielder replied to Serity's topic in Mistborn
If there is a Mistborn series with a 1940's era this might come into play big time. I was thinking recently about different influential people in history and what they would be in the Mistborn world. I came to the conclusion that Hitler would be a Zinc Compounder; incredibly smart and amazing with crowds. Becoming a savant in this fashion would also explain his eventual insanity. He becomes such an amazing thinker that he doesn't accept that he can possibly be wrong, even in the face of evidence. The Wax and Wayne Old West Mistborn novels seem to be incredibly attuned to Gilded Age America to me. There is a lot of industry with a poor working class and a fabulously rich upper class. If Brandon did write a 1940's Mistborn series, I would think he would include world war into it, rather than just technology from the era. If there was a Hitler-like dictator to spark the war, I can see him using Zinc Compounding to accomplish it. -

I went to the Comic Con FanX in Salt Lake this past weekend. Here are the questions that I asked at his panel and the signing. I didn't know if somebody was recording, so I started an account just to post this. During the panel I asked the question: "At the Yomen wedding, the newlyweds are talking to 'a scruffy man who looked like a beggar, dressed all in black.' Is this an appearance of Hoid?" His answer was that yes, in fact, it was. I don't know if there was a recording of that event or if that question has been asked, but I decided to let you know, just in case. In addition, my friends and I attended his book signing at around 5:00. Just in case there was nobody recording that, I have another few questions that we asked him: "In the flashback with Shallan meeting Hoid, Hoid pours something from a pouch into his cup and drinks it. Are these Allomantic metal shavings?" His answer was that there was something indeed significant about what Hoid placed in the cup, but that it was not necessarily Allomantic shavings. He wouldn't tell me what it specifically was and gave me a R.A.F.O. card. "When Kelsier is teaching Vin about the basic eight Allomantic Metals, he talks about not flaring metals, especially Tin and Pewter, as it does strange things to people. Does this imply that there were other savants before Spook?" His answer was that there were other savants before Spook. "Can aluminum be used to destroy a Feruchemist's metalmind if the person bruning aluminum were to cut his hand and place it on the metalmind." He said that cuting the hand would probably not be enough, but that I was on the right track (I assume this means that you could pierce your hand with a metalmind, or a Hemalurgic spike and destroy it with aluminum). He R.A.F.O.ed my other question: "So each anti-investiture is like its world's investiture, but can't be effected by it. So aluminum can't be affected and destroyes Allomancy, ralkalest can't be Soulstamped, Shardblades are blunted by that one thing. Is the black filled sphere that Galivar gives to Szeth the anti-investiture to Stormlight?" When I asked this, he became much more tight-lipped and said that was an interesting theory and that I would learn more in book three.

Granted, but all water tastes like cherry flavored cough syrup to you from now on. I wish for Zinc Compounding. -
This is based on celder23761's question at the Firefight prerelease about Adolin's Shardblade being previously owned by an Edgedancer. He noticed that there was a description of Adolin's Blade appearing in the form of vines in his hand before fully becoming formed. Since Lift's spren, Wyndle, makes her "awesomeness" visible to her in the form of vines, he connected the two and received a positive answer to his question. Notice in the Ars Arcanum the order of the Surges. Edgedancers use the fourth and fifth surges: Abrasion and Progressiom. Now look back one page at the table of the Ten Essences. The fourth and fifth Soulcasting properties are (4) quartz, glass, and crystal, and (5) wood, plants, and crystal. On page 683 Lift describes Wyndle thus: "Wyndle grew up to her, leaving a small trail of vines that people didn't seem to be able to see. The vines hardened after a few moments of sitting, as briefly becoming solid crystal, then crumbling to dust." Let's break this down: the fourth and fifth Surges of those listed in the Ars Arcanum just happen to be the ones that apply to an Edgedancer. The fourth and fifth Soulcasting properties of the Ten Essences list just happen to contain vines and crystal, which is what Wyndle manifests as. My theory is that we can connect the Surges to the table in this manner and perhaps find out something about the other Surges. Maybe the orders can draw Stormlight better from gemstones that fit their Surges, I don't know. Look at some other Surgebinders: Windrunning uses the first two Surges on the list: Adhesion and Gravitation. Looking at the Soulcasting properties, they are (1) Translucent gas, and air, and (2) Opaque gas, smoke, and fog. Syl can be tied to these in the form that Kaladin sees. Lightweaving uses the sixth and seventh Surges on the list: Illumination and Transformation. The Soulcasting properties for these are (6) blood, and all non-oil liquid, and (7) All kinds of oil. From my view, it seems that with Pattern's ever-shifting form this could apply to him in a way. What thoughts does everybody have on this?
