  1. It's an alps thing.
  2. His dad was foreign. He came from the alps originally. There were mountain goats, but no guns. And swords. Because it's good for your health, mostly, but Dirk's dad took it too far. And then he was forced to move due to him not actually owning the land and whatnot.
  3. Yeah, guns do beat swords, but his dad had been brought up with the sword when guns weren't around nearly as much, and so drilled it into him whether he wanted to or not, whether it was useful or not. It was more about passing it on than actual practicality
  4. It could be snakes then. I would prefer something unique, but not special. And I'm also confused on how swords are exotic. Sure, they're rare, but I've seen plenty of sword-totin'/makin' epics around here.
  5. I want to have his weakness be something to do with swords, as that is basically his character, and I want his weakness to be unique to him. If his father was into boxing, how would Dirk be so good with a sword? That's not an epic power, that's his actual skill.
  6. His father wasn't exactly abusive, just obsessive about training Dirk with the sword, and the surprise attacks were a part of that. People learn best and fastest in life-or-death situations, that kind of thing. It wasn't exactly a life or death situation, but he was in legitimate danger.
  7. In that case, I'll probably have his weakness be not having a sword around. I can just twist his backstory a little, and say that he would be randomly attacked by his father around the house, and if he didn't have his sword, he couldn't defend himself. And he eventually became traumatized by it.
  8. Gotcha. It does seem a little finicky if I think about it. Does the weakness have to be an item, or could it be some kind of action? Like getting punched or something, but the fist doesn't neutralize it. (Not actual weakness, just an example.) I'm not making his weakness be guns, I know that... What if he's afraid of snakes? That's a perfectly normal fear. Say he got bit by a king snake as a child, and they had to do heart surgery or something.
  9. His weakness isn't being near swords, it's that his portals don't automatically defend against them. So if his tripped or something, and impaled himself with his own sword, then yeah, he'd die. But he's skilled enough to not do that. It's like his power is split into two parts, the part he consciously uses, and the automatic defense system. I haven't put too much thought into this character yet, I literally thought him up last night, but right now, I think he's powerful enough with them just moving objects. Did you have anything in mind that they could do? Usually, objects bigger than them are thought of, to borrow a cosmere term, as one cognitive entity. So it wouldn't teleport part of it, and nothing would be teleported. So no teleporting buildings or anything. And also Falchion has to be able to see where the portals are when he places them, so he couldn't have them appear inside somebody or something, just for the record. Other small things is that while the shape of the portals is mostly restricted to circles or ovals, he can adjust the shape of it, (long, short, etc.) so long as the area stays about the same. So he could create a portal that has the same surface area as himself, and then make it really tall and thin for whatever reason. Another thing that he can do with them is use them to spy, because he can make an incredibly small one, place it in somebody's room/palace thingy, and then later hook up a larger one to it, activating it, and he would be able to see through it. Portals are inactive while unlinked, and he can't have multiple portals linked up to the same one. Think of it as an invertible function. Last random things: Falchion Punch!!! And the fact that I hadn't seen Warplock, so let me know if my characters powers are too similar, and I can try and change them. I also have never played/seen either of the portal games, and just have a basic knowledge of how their portals work. They did not inspire this character. (That I know of.)
  10. So I almost did this last year, but stuff happened, and yeah. So I was never able to actually do it. But now it's time for me to rejoin the... living? Half-dead? Ponies?!? Anywho, I have an epic idea, about an epic who can create space-bending portals of size ranging from infinitely small to person-sized. Can be various shapes as well but mostly ranging from circle to oval. He can have these appear anywhere in his sight, have up to 10 sets, and dismiss them at will. He can also hook up new portals to an old one. They don't fade away or anything like that. His portals retain momentum. (of course) Qualifies as a high epic due to his portals automatically appearing around his body to redirect attacks/bullets. He carries around about a dozen swords of different shapes and sizes, and uses his portals in close combat. (i.e. stab a sword forward, making a portal connecting the stab zone to behind an enemies back for an instakill.) He can use them in actual combat though, even without the portals. Male. 20 yo. Been an epic for two years. Likes swords and surprise attacks. His conversations tend to be quite random. Epic name is Falchion. Real name of Dirk Alder. Was trained harshly in swordsmanship as a child, being beaten or shallowly sliced with a sword if he lost/failed. One time, he almost died due to bloodloss. His epic weakness is swords or knives, and the portals won't activate to defend from them, but he is skilled enough to keep most away from him, as well as using swords against a sword-wielding epic not making much sense. Anything I need to change with him, and what city would be best? P.S. That pun was completely unintentional. Forgive me.
  11. This doesn't have much to do with being a sanderfan, but I both have to post, and hate to post, that before this post, the number of posts in this thread was "1234." Which even adds up to 10, the number of orders of KR. Just sayin'. Edit: Something that does make someone a sanderfan is when you're in a debate in a live online class, and you start suspecting someone of being a spy for the other team, and start voting to lynch them. "Joe[ /color]"
  12. Brandon Sanderson wrote the Akashic Records.
  13. Well that was fun. I was *this* close to not dying. Also, I was right at the end there. I was trying to do the "right" thing and save her! (It's an epic, so is it still right?) But I was brutally murdered. Looking forward to the final writeup! I wouldn't be surprised if Phatt actually made a player Perseus. I would kinda fit in with what he's done so far. Almost survived. But I didn't. Great game everyone, and thank you so much for GMing this Phatt.
  14. Yeah, me having long posts is very odd for me, but that was a defense where I was refuting multiple points, and you have to admit, spaces between paragraphs had to have been 1/3 of it. I couldn't remember Lopen doing long posts like that before, but if he has, then I don't have any suspicions worth a vote. Lopen.
  15. Okay, a couple things. One, as much as I appreciate it, Lopen, you teaming me up with BOTH of my siblings, I have nothing to do with them. In the game. On another note, I was suspected for saying that Anna's playstyle had changed when it had not, but this is my first game back from a 3-game SE hiatus, and if his playstyle changed, I wouldn't know. So I was going off of his playstyle as I last knew it. I didn't say why I was suspicious was because, A: I didn't actually vote for him, and didn't think I needed to explain it, and B: I don't really have any reasons, and didn't really think much about putting it in the post, as it's more of a sitting feeling, without any evidence whatsoever. I didn't really think would pay any attention to it, I just put it on there as an afterthought. I didn't know that Arranae was a telepath, and I have no clue who else is, in my post, I was just throwing out a suggestion, that I thought would help. I hadn't gotten any PM's, and so didn't know how much PM traffic there actually was. I still haven't gotten any, by the way. :'( And look! I was right about Mailliw! He was giving powers to the other side! I think. Not sure how else the reckoner got that many. Maybe he thought he was an epic. But either way, he wasn't an epic, so killing him doesn't hurt us, and he seemed to be helping the enemy. So I'm happy about Mailliw's death. Hopefully this defense helps me survive, as I am on your side. My reasons on voting for Lopen is that I think his analysis is suspicious. From what I remember, Lopen doesn't do heavy analysis very often, and I have often seen cultists do analysis, as it is a great way to earn trust. I think he was stretching things to try and target me, without too much evidence, and while his reasoning does seem to be sound, it calls for some large leaps of logic.
  16. Well. I have a couple things to mention. A: Huzzah! A potted plant! Thank you spectator gods! I'll make sure NOT to eat it, as I suspected your so called "good will" and looked up hemlock. Poisonous? Really? What if I ATE that. Because who doesn't eat potted plants. And the foul smell was entirely unnecessary. Luckily, I have no sense of smell. So thank you for the potentially life-threatening gift. I appreciate it. No really, I do. B: I'm confused as to what constitutes being inactive. I posted quite a bit last cycle, so were those just missed, or is there more to being active than being involved in the discussion? Rutabaga.
  17. I'm going to vote for Mailliw. From what I've seen, his ability to stay alive past these things has got to be some kind of conspiracy. Also, I kinda want to see him die now. For posterity. "I was there when Mailliw died!" "Oh wow Grandpa, you're amazing!" "I know! Pass me some of that root beer!" etc. etc. etc.
  18. Well, I'm trying to RP without RPing this game, so I'm trying to make my posts mysterious/confusing/annoying, but I also try to say something useful every post as well. Everything that I have posted that is not clearly... well, weird, is my honest opinion. And the pre-emptive voting on you was because I knew you'd be joining, so I saw a chance to gain extra mystery points, and I took it. P.S. Don't kick the computer. That's a valuable piece of equipment, and if you break it somehow, you will be paying for it.
  19. So as someone guessed, I do have vote manipulation, but it wasn't used last cycle. So if Elkanah's vote was blocked, it wasn't me, and I don't think any other transmogrifiers would go and block random people's votes. The other option is that a reckoner did it, but that doesn't make sense, as they would know I was "good" and would want me dead, if anything. I tend to never got all analysisy in these things, but I do think we could get some kind of information from this event.
  20. Mystique Chameleon. The act of joining has removed all my suspicions. On the other hand... Judging by the vote tally, it would seem that either PK or Adavantos has the persuasion, as has previously been said. That means at least one of the two is an epic, as it doesn't make much sense for reckoners to have epic powers. So I think we leave both alone for now, and come back to kill them at some point in the future. We should probably leave Orlok alone for now as well. I also support that telepathicers start setting up a chain of PMs. (They've probably already done so, but I wouldn't know.) The more information flow the better, as well as it adding another dynamic to the already very dynamic game.
  21. Wait. What? Since when was this a thing? Will this show up in other cycles/games? Can I have a potted plant? And I certainly know I want to read through the spec doc once we're done with this game. This looks FUN. Also, spectators. I know you can see this. I can't see you, but I have faith you exist. Bequeath PK a cookie. I think the poor guy needs one. Oh, and flowers for Anna. I think he needs 'em more than I do. And to a question voiced last cycle, yes, I know Anamaximder is (probably) male, but I wanted to find a way to shorten the name, like BB or PK, and Anna was the first thing I came up with. And Anna, if you're seeing this, I apologize for voting on and killing you. I didn't mean it really. So don't haunt my character forever. Thanks. Oh yeah. Mystique Chameleon. Thanks! Bye!
  22. I voted for Anamaximder because I have seen his previous playstyle, and this is not it. It is drastically different from what he has done before, and a drastic change in playstyle for no apparent reason is a good reason for me to vote, when otherwise I have no suspicions. Besides Kipper. But I do have a legitimate reason for voting on Anna.
