  1. Only the defensive portals that grant him his high epic status do this. His normal portals are different. I wanted to have his defense be linked to the portals, but I don't want them to have any attack capability, even accidental attack capability. Thus "The Void." Edit: They could be plain forcefields, and that would be fine, but I wanted them to be linked to his power, not an entirely separate one, as well as the thought of the attack being redirected, not just blocked.
  2. A shlurping sound and no more body checker... Edit: Haha, just kidding. The defense portals just act like unbreakable, immovable, walls to any other humans. Animals get shlurped though.
  3. Yep. They close VERY fast. Lightspeed? Edit: Or I guess just strand whatever it was in the cold dark heart of space. That's probably an easier alternative. But that would lead to a vacuum. Hmmm... I don't want them to fall down and hurt someone though. Do we want to say that the defense portals link to an alternate dimension? "The Void" or something? Don't fall into a defense portal.
  4. They are mostly random, but they are in a way that they release whatever it was a long ways away, so they won't come back and attack the attacker, or anything nearby. I'm thinking they either direct it to the sky or to the core of the earth, to make sure that they won't hurt anybody. I want it to be a defense, not a counterattack.
  5. Nope. They are almost different powers, just with the same core ability.
  6. So is Falchion OKayed, or are there still details that have to be figured out. For now, I'll wait to join a city, even if he is ready, as I want to wait until my brother gets an epic prepped, so that we can go to the same city and team up.
  7. Now I wanna see an epic throwing a nuke. Because nukes, and because it would be fun to chuck around a nuke.
  8. I would say yes, as it's not affecting the epics, and they can teleport energy. I do think that his defense portals can affect epics though, because otherwise, an epic punches him, and he dies. Either that, or the portals still appear to defend, and they just act rock solid.
  9. Potentially. I mostly have the limit so that he couldn't use portals to throw giant objects. Remember that his portals don't affect other epics at all, so he couldn't teleport them or slice them, he could only slice normal people or objects, and many other epics can kill people at will just as easily.
  10. I think it makes sense that the corner could go through, and the corners would get stuck. It's not what I had in mind at first, but it's simplest and most realistic. I think that he could close a portal while something is moving through it. Not sure if it would cut the object in half though, or if the object would be pushed out as the portal closed. I think it being cut in half makes the most sense.
  11. 10 Meters is plenty enough, and that backstory works fine. For some reason, I hadn't even considered the tournament aspect. My thoughts were that they were kinda solid, so that things can't pass through them, but that's just my thoughts. The other alternative is that you could pass through them, but I'll probably stick with them being solid. Another thought on the portals is that he can't move them while they still exist, he has to remove them and then bring them back. He can do this almost instantly, but it does make flying a bit more difficult.
  12. Yes, people could attack him through the portal, but since the portals are turned away from his body, that would be extremely difficult. The defense system doesn't redirect the blow or anything, it just portals it somewhere else. Somewhere far away, or underground, as it does not have the same "must see it" restriction. But yes, it is possible. And the defense portals only stay open for as long as needed to defend from the attack. With the portals of different sizes, the one that is linked to the one he is looking at will distort the image he sees, stretching it to fit the portal he is viewing, (Think increasing the size of a picture for a presentation,) but he still can't go through. It is potentially possible for him to make fake portals this way, that things can't actually go through.
  13. No. It's if he could see it if he looked around. Otherwise blinking would negate his powers, as well as sleep, which makes him a pretty lousy epic/high epic. Well, he is a high epic. His defenses activate just above his skin, and they would not activate if he wasn't going to be harmed by it, but he could decide to open a portal to block the shot, if he saw it coming. Edit: I do think it is a bit powerful though, which is why it's still a WIP.
  14. Do we want to go with in range of his sight? So if he would be able to see it if he looked around?
  15. Yeah, so the current WIP weakness is NOT having a sword close by.
  16. It fits in with his character, but his weakness isn't swords, it's getting stabbed by one. I am currently working on changing the weakness though. Edit: 1,000 miles could work. That is plenty far. And smoke/fog etc. does affect it, due to him having to see it to put a portal there, as I have stated before.
  17. He was talking about space space? I thought he meant empty space. Super high up and all. Yeah, he couldn't see to space space.
  18. I know. It's a metaphor. Thus the word "think" as opposed to "are." It's not, but I could still use some cosmere terms to explain things. I do it all the time IRL.
  19. no. 5 there is automatic, but no. 3 is just unrealistic. What if his portals can't affect other epics. Would that work? Think of them as invested or something.
  20. He couldn't. The linked portals can be different sizes, but he couldn't enter if the other side was too small. He would be able to see through though, which I used in an earlier post.
  21. Yeeeess..... I did not think of that. But he wouldn't. Because looking at the sun would burn his eyebulbs. Looking at something through sunglasses or a telescope doesn't work. And why would he want to destroy the city?
  22. How are they "neutral" if they are betraying him?
  23. You haven't read from 23-25 have you. I've answered quite a few of these questions already. He has to see them, but it's only limited by his sight, so he could create one far away. He can turn/rotate them. I said that they retain their momentum, so yeah, they transmit energy as well. Part of something cannot be ported.
  24. Do you guys know of a way that I could make this work then? I'm trying to stick with the core of my guy, without changing too much, and have him come from a swordsmanship background, while having it make sense, and I'm really grabbing at goat straws here.
  25. I have no sources, but I'm pretty sure that creative license lets me have an alps thing. Correct me if I'm wrong. Or if I need to change the backstory, but I do think this falls under only mild suspension of disbelief.
