  1. Rasputin is probably a gold ferring, though likely not a compounder. maybe a zinc or brass misting in addition. I think you give hitler's intelligence too much credit though. I could believe him as a rioter, but not a zinc compounder.
  2. plus, in order to get any idea of what the future will be like more than just a couple seconds ahead, you would have to duralumin flare it. so you would have to go through even more massive amounts than the comment suggests
  3. This is exactly what I thought the second I saw the topic title. *shudders*
  4. Based on what we've seen of fabrials so far, I don't think it is outside of the realm of possibility for them to invent some arrangement/combination of gems that allows a spanreed-like effect, but with proportional instead of equal movement. I don't think we've seen anything do that yet, but I bet it would be possible. And as far as the force needed, you just throw in a bunch of amplifier type fabrials as part of the design to boost the forces applied or something, which should let you increase the size of the thing. Of course at this point there is the very real problem that this mech could probably take like 5 steps before one of the dozens of gems cracks or runs out of stormlight as far as ranged weapon: presumably there should be a way to make a fabrial that copies the lightning blasts the listenrs were using in WoR
  5. Along those lines: store up a ton of breaths and awaken a coppermind with the command "Forget" P.S. - now I'm curious if an awakened coppermind would be able to access the memories stored inside itself.
  6. Well it may also depend on whether the nicrosil specifically enhances the metal that is being burned, or if it just allows/forces it to be burned at a much quicker rate. that is, if the nicrosil adds energy/investiture to the total being burned by the other person, then it could come closer to reaching the limit of what their metalminds can hold. But, I concede that you are probably correct even if that is the case. a large enough metalmind can hold an enormous amount of an attribute, so for most people, it just probably wouldn't be an issue.
  7. While I think you are probably correct in your last point, I would say that if anyone is going to run into the upper limits of what a metalmind can hold, it will be a compounder. They are probably the only ones who will generally be storing enough of an attribute to fill a sizable metalmind, like arm bracers
  8. I've basically been waiting for this to happen for 2 books now.
  9. Imagine you were fighting against a windrunner, and they lashed you upwards. Being able to rid yourself of the lashing could be a useful ability. The reason it is net positive is that the energy being used to create the effect, in this case the effect of removing investiture, is coming from outside of you, from preservation/harmony
  10. Well there is a WoB about Aluminum Savants: So they are potentially used for cleansing/purifying, which, in theory, could have beneficial effects
  11. Huh. Hop to Roshar, and store make a huge connection with the Stormfather, say, to become a bondsmith. or to the world from sixth of the dusk, and connect with some aviar.
  12. Do we actually know this? It definitely didn't come up in the books, and I didn't think there was a WoB on the effects of nicrosil, since he was considering a nicrosil allomancer for the next mistborn trilogy. There may be information in the MAG, but that isn't canon, just indicative. I would assume it is like duralumin, only affecting metals being actively burned , until I see otherwise.

    XKCD

I have a fondness for that one, since I've used that escalator And beret guy is generally good for a laugh. XKCD goes to the Airport, Pumpkin Carving and any other strip featuring all the recurring characters is generally pretty good
  14. I don't have any answers, but I do have another question to add on top: I don't know if we've ever gotten a clear answer on this (though I don't have the MAG, so maybe it is there) but can a compounder choose which effect (allomantic or feruchemical) they get when they burn a metalmind? And following from that, if a nicroburst used their ability on a compounder, would the flared metals have the allomantic or feruchemical effect? in your example, if JF is a nicroburst, and he burns nicrosil and forces Eva to flare her marbleminds with it, does he briefly boost her speed, or provide her a massive steelpush, or does she get to determine which effect happens?

    XKCD

Cassini, Relativistic Baseball, Spent Fuel Pool and really too many others to count. even the worst of the What Ifs are still enjoyable. favorite comic is very hard to say, but most of the "My Hobby" ones are just bizarrely amusing
  16. Hadn't even considered the effects of a soulburst on another compounder. What would that do to a glutton, say? I imagine it would be just awful.

    XKCD

And I thought mine was bad. You've got me beat by at least 10. And I have started liking the What if parts more and more than the actual comic itself, these days. I think What If is a better display of Randall's humor and abilities than the comic, in general. And when he has a good one, they can be really good.
  18. For several years (and across at least 3 computers now), I have been using a picture of the Cliffs of Moher that someone in my family took on our trip to Ireland (camera got passed around a bit, so unsure who took it) I don't feel like trying to upload it somewhere, but it is basically This though a bit worse quality

    Wax's Spike

I've seen discussion of this before. My thought was that it probably carries a small hemalurgical charge, but that the real purpose of it is just to make it easier for Harmony to communicate with someone (the way it is easier for Ruin with someone who is spiked). So what the charge is is probably almost irrelevant, and it seems to me that it has probably decayed some in the 300 years since it was created.
  20. Shlee, thanks for pulling out those quotes, extremely helpful. I thought I remembered just about all of those, but I wouldn't have been able to search and find the exact references from the books. As for the Cryptics (and I am going to assume that is what they are unless proven otherwise)would flee when Kaladin and Syl arrive: maybe they just wanted to remain hidden. We know spren can hide from (most) humans when they want, but do we have evidence that they could hide form other spren? That is, would Syl maybe have been able to see them, and might they not have wanted to avoid that, not out of fear, but out of desire for secrecy?
  21. Not quite allomancy, but Feruchemical Duralumin would be pretty invasive, being able to manufacture a connection with someone like that...
  22. I reread some of those last year, and I had the opposite reaction. the later books, the ones that focus a bit more on the politics of the kingdom, are the ones that seemed stronger to me. It doesn't help that, by the end of like the second or third book, your good guys include 3 of the most powerful beings in the universe. With that kind of power, it gets to be a bit hard to believe that they are struggling with anything.
  23. I think the general idea is that it works similar to gold, but for another person. So based on Vin's use of it, and Miles's gold burning scene, it seems that it should let you see an alternate version of the person if they had made different choices. So while it can reveal some secrets if you know how to read what you are seeing, I doubt it could do anything like directly reproduce scenes from someone's past
  24. Well bear in mind that carrying a bridge is obscenely good strength and endurance training. It's true that the bridgemen seem to learn the spear a bit quickly, but at least part of it is from the fact that by the time they start, they are just ridiculously physically fit.
  25. Have to go brass/zinc. The ability to actively manipulate someone's emotions allomantically seems much more invasive than just being able to see past/alternate versions of the person.
