  1. The problem is that in the meantime, people are going to suffer. LGBT people are going to see their hard-won rights rolled back. The war on women is going to rise again. People depending on the ACA to provide them healthcare for serious, chronic conditions are going to die when the act is repealed. We will move on, and we will win back and rebuild, but people are going to be hurt and killed in the meantime.
  2. No. No, he's not. He's really, really not. If anything, Pence terrifies me more than Trump does.
  3. You know what? I'm just going to copy/paste what I posted to Facebook this morning. Because I don't think I can get any more eloquent than I already was. (And I must've hit some buttons out there, because it's getting shared all over the place. I just spotted a Share notification from a complete stranger who has no friends in common with me.)
  4. I reserve the right to harbor extreme antipathy for both.
  5. England has counties (but not states). Canada has provinces. Australia has states. There's a lot of variance.
  6. Is 36 still a perfect score, or have they adjusted the range since I was in school?
  7. On that we can agree. It may be the ONLY thing we agree on in this election, but I'll takes what I can gets. (We are going to see Doctor Strange tomorrow night to escape from some of the stress.)
  8. I declare this post Best Pony Today.
  9. There are also hints in the books that some powers are more common than others. It's flat-out stated at one point that Steelrunners are rare, the implication being that other types of Ferrings occur more often. This may well also extend to Allomancy, which could mean that there is a disproportionately high number of Coinshots compared to certain other types of Allomancer. Granted, this is mostly conjecture, but it is a definite possibility.
  10. That last sentence makes literally as much sense as anything Nostradamus has ever written.
  11. The Channel Formerly Known As History
  12. Man, I don't even have to click the link and the song is already stuck in my head.
  13. The History Channel Dammit, people, once upon a time you had real history! Now it's nothing but Nostradumbus and mermaids and that aliens guy. I rusting hate that aliens guy.
  14. Lollercopters Take one part overly flowery language, combine with a generous helping of "it wasn't written in our language so translators can play with it however they want". Mix with a dash of overcredulity and serve on a plate of History Channel nonsense. Seriously, guys, Nostradamus's "prophecies" are so pretty and vague that they can be applied to almost anything after the fact. And the History Channel broke their last bit of credibility when they aired that ridiculous tripe about "what if mermaids are real?!"
  15. It was great fun. We were making jokes about war cries, and one of my friends who's a practitioner of the old Norse religion came up to bat/sword. And someone shouted, "IKEA!" as a war cry. Our "pitcher" broke down in giggles for a long moment. Anyway, the one guy I don't like didn't show. And I was also assured that he tends to keep his politics on Facebook and off of real life. So all went OK. See, you don't use baseball bats in Pumpkin Katana Baseball. You use swords, crowbars, and other weapons. Axes are OK, but they're difficult to wield effectively. Baseball bats are the most boring option available. Or they're just acknowledging you as their superior and hoping you will gift them with food. Cause that's why they lick. Because you might give them food. Ooo, new chapter!
  16. With this many people this close to the election, that's not an easy rule to put forth. And I also dislike the idea of putting a rule like that into place with a bunch of adults who SHOULD be able to act like respectful humans. Mostly I'm just angry that someone I loathe this much is going to be in my house and there's rust-all I can do about it without being the rude one.
  17. The good: Pumpkin Katana baseball is tomorrow! We are hosting! And we have successfully created Pumpkin Juice! The bad: I made the event open invitation. Somehow, one of my friends has managed to invite the one single person I have ever outright blocked on Facebook. It's my own damnation fault; he had no way of knowing that I'd blocked the guy. I don't want him in my house, but it would have been inexcusably rude to rescind the invitation to him and his wife once it was given. The ugly: I'm kind of hoping they just no-show. Because this guy has political views that I find absolutely reprehensible. I blocked him specifically because I couldn't read his awful comments on a (different from the one who invited him) friend's posts without feeling an irresistible urge to jump into the argument, which resulted in my blood pressure skyrocketing. I've been much happier pretending he doesn't exist. But now he's likely to be in my house tomorrow and the election is in a few days and there's no way politics won't come up and I cannot guarantee that the day won't end with me pouring pumpkin juice over his head.
  18. Heh. I remember those days. So young...so innocent...so many questions to read... Then you get through them all and you realize that you have many theories, but no more evidence to scrape together, and the wait between books seems to stretch out into eternity.
  19. I have to confess, I always get inordinately tickled when one of the rare WoBs I've managed to gather gets referenced.
  20. You are not the only one. I've been enjoying looking for all the little subtleties and hints of what's going on, and watching some of the Hosts begin to gain self-awareness. It has the potential to explore the question of consciousness in interesting ways.
  21. Forgive me, but I find then that the question as it's meant is rather strange. Aside from base metal = Pull and alloy = Push, there's no pattern I've been able to discern in the whys and wherefores of what metal does what. The powers of the base metal and alloy are related in some way, but there's no real link between why steel and iron make you able to bounce around like a superpowered yo-yo and why cadmium and bendalloy affect time. I mean, other than the fact that Brandon found it more convenient to use common metals for the powers he wanted to have available in Era 1 versus the new fun extras you find in Era 2. So the problem comes from trying to assign a pattern to something that is essentially arbitrary. Even the links between Allomancy and Feruchemy don't follow a pattern. Why do pewter and tin have such similar powers across the two disciplines, but iron and steel are so wildly different? Without finding a pattern in those relationships, speculation about "What would X metal be IF it were Allomantic?" has no possible logic to apply. If you're just wanting to make up cool powers for different metals, by all means, there are existing threads that already do so. But naming a specific metal and inviting speculation with no actual Realmatic evidence that would give it a reason to be a particular power just strikes me as odd and confusing.
  22. Crossovers are never a bad idea. ...except possibly mine. That might be getting written over NaNo, depending on how far I get through the rest of Eva's story. Maybe I'll have the strength to go another direction, but I'm just not sure. (I know, I've been slacking horrible on getting Swift as Steel up. The massive sewing of costumes for the convention rounds this year threw off my momentum on the final rewrite. I am hoping to pick that momentum back up by starting on the rough draft of the sequel and just trying to push out as much as I can. Then in December, go back and polish.) You have Exploding Kittens!
  23. On the other hand...I'm sorry, but if her heart is actually stopping randomly, there's no way the hospital would release her without massive testing and observation. Edited To Add: That's not to say there isn't genuinely stuff going on with her. I think she's definitely got some mental health issues that need treatment, and it is absolutely her parents' responsibility to make sure she gets that help. But there are also definitely pieces of her story that aren't adding up. And now one of my own: My husband's uncle has been diagnosed with non Hodgkin's lymphoma. The docs are talking chemotherapy, which would indicate that it's a more aggressive form.
  24. My brother and grandfather are so happy.
